Shankara : Biography

Shankara

Shankaracharya (686-718) was a Saint who completely renewed the practice of Hinduism and established monastic orders in the four corners of India. His vast literary output includes poems, hymns, scriptural commentaries, and the great philosophical treatise called The Crest-Jewel of Discrimination. After writing hundreds of books, and commenting on dozens of scriptures, Shankaracharya summed up his teaching as follows: I can tell you the contents of a half million verses on spirituality in half a verse: God is real, the world is unreal, the individual soul is none other than God!
