The Philokalia, Christianity / Orthodoxy

One of the earliest works on the basic practice of Christianity is the Philokalia (Ist-4th centuries A. D.), a collection of writings by monks and abbots who applied Jesus' teachings to their own lives. One notable practice of these early monks was the ceaseless Jesus Prayer-the continuous and uninterrupted calling of the name of Jesus with lips, mind, and soul. Both the Philokalia and the Jesus Prayer were made famous in the West by an un the joy, happiness, and protection that comes from ceaseless prayer.
