32. 2

And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

- Jacob poursuivit son chemin; et des anges de Dieu le rencontrèrent. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Ιακωβ ἀπη̃λθεν εἰς τὴν ἑαυτου̃ ὁδόν καὶ ἀναβλέψας εἰ̃δεν παρεμβολὴν θεου̃ παρεμβεβληκυι̃αν καὶ συνήντησαν αὐτω̨̃ οἱ ἄγγελοι του̃ θεου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Jacob quoque abiit itinere quo cœperat : fueruntque ei obviam angeli Dei. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃32 ויעקב הלך לדרכו ויפגעו בו מלאכי אלהים ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 3

And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

- En les voyant, Jacob dit: C'est le camp de Dieu! Et il donna à ce lieu le nom de Mahanaïm. (Ⅱ)

- εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἡνίκα εἰ̃δεν αὐτούς Παρεμβολὴ θεου̃ αὕτη καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα του̃ τόπου ἐκείνου Παρεμβολαί (Ⅲ)

- Quos cum vidisset, ait : Castra Dei sunt hæc : et appellavit nomen loci illius Mahanaim, id est, Castra. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃32 ויאמר יעקב כאשר ראם מחנה אלהים זה ויקרא שם המקום ההוא מחנים פ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 4

And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

- Jacob envoya devant lui des messagers à Ésaü, son frère, au pays de Séir, dans le territoire d'Édom. (Ⅱ)

- ἀπέστειλεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἀγγέλους ἔμπροσθεν αὐτου̃ πρὸς Ησαυ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτου̃ εἰς γη̃ν Σηιρ εἰς χώραν Εδωμ (Ⅲ)

- Misit autem et nuntios ante se ad Esau fratrem suum in terram Seir, in regionem Edom : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃32 וישלח יעקב מלאכים לפניו אל עשו אחיו ארצה שעיר שדה אדום ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 5

And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:

- Il leur donna cet ordre: Voici ce que vous direz à mon seigneur Ésaü: Ainsi parle ton serviteur Jacob: J'ai séjourné chez Laban, et j'y suis resté jusqu'à présent; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐνετείλατο αὐτοι̃ς λέγων οὕτως ἐρει̃τε τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου Ησαυ οὕτως λέγει ὁ παι̃ς σου Ιακωβ μετὰ Λαβαν παρώ̨κησα καὶ ἐχρόνισα ἕως του̃ νυ̃ν (Ⅲ)

- præcepitque eis, dicens : Sic loquimini domino meo Esau : Hæc dicit frater tuus Jacob : Apud Laban peregrinatus sum, et fui usque in præsentem diem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃32 ויצו אתם לאמר כה תאמרון לאדני לעשו כה אמר עבדך יעקב עם לבן גרתי ואחר עד עתה ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 6

And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.

- j'ai des boeufs, des ânes, des brebis, des serviteurs et des servantes, et j'envoie l'annoncer à mon seigneur, pour trouver grâce à tes yeux. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένοντό μοι βόες καὶ ὄνοι καὶ πρόβατα καὶ παι̃δες καὶ παιδίσκαι καὶ ἀπέστειλα ἀναγγει̃λαι τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου Ησαυ ἵνα εὕρη̨ ὁ παι̃ς σου χάριν ἐναντίον σου (Ⅲ)

- Habeo boves, et asinos, et oves, et servos, et ancillas : mittoque nunc legationem ad dominum meum, ut inveniam gratiam in conspectu tuo. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃32 ויהי לי שור וחמור צאן ועבד ושפחה ואשלחה להגיד לאדני למצא חן בעיניך ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 7

And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

- Les messagers revinrent auprès de Jacob, en disant: Nous sommes allés vers ton frère Ésaü; et il marche à ta rencontre, avec quatre cents hommes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν οἱ ἄγγελοι πρὸς Ιακωβ λέγοντες ἤλθομεν πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφόν σου Ησαυ καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ἔρχεται εἰς συνάντησίν σοι καὶ τετρακόσιοι ἄνδρες μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Reversique sunt nuntii ad Jacob, dicentes : Venimus ad Esau fratrem tuum, et ecce properat tibi in occursum cum quadringentis viris. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃32 וישבו המלאכים אל יעקב לאמר באנו אל אחיך אל עשו וגם הלך לקראתך וארבע מאות איש עמו ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 8

Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;

- Jacob fut très effrayé, et saisi d'angoisse. Il partagea en deux camps les gens qui étaient avec lui, les brebis, les boeufs et les chameaux; (Ⅱ)

- ἐφοβήθη δὲ Ιακωβ σφόδρα καὶ ἠπορει̃το καὶ διει̃λεν τὸν λαὸν τὸν μετ' αὐτου̃ καὶ τοὺς βόας καὶ τὰ πρόβατα εἰς δύο παρεμβολάς (Ⅲ)

- Timuit Jacob valde : et perterritus divisit populum qui secum erat, greges quoque et oves, et boves, et camelos, in duas turmas, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃32 ויירא יעקב מאד ויצר לו ויחץ את העם אשר אתו ואת הצאן ואת הבקר והגמלים לשני מחנות ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 9

And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.

- et il dit: Si Ésaü vient contre l'un des camps et le bat, le camp qui restera pourra se sauver. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιακωβ ἐὰν ἔλθη̨ Ησαυ εἰς παρεμβολὴν μίαν καὶ ἐκκόψη̨ αὐτήν ἔσται ἡ παρεμβολὴ ἡ δευτέρα εἰς τὸ σώ̨ζεσθαι (Ⅲ)

- dicens : Si venerit Esau ad unam turmam, et percusserit eam, alia turma, quæ relicta est, salvabitur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃32 ויאמר אם יבוא עשו אל המחנה האחת והכהו והיה המחנה הנשאר לפליטה ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 10

And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

- Jacob dit: Dieu de mon père Abraham, Dieu de mon père Isaac, Éternel, qui m'as dit: Retourne dans ton pays et dans ton lieu de naissance, et je te ferai du bien! (Ⅱ)

- εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ιακωβ ὁ θεὸς του̃ πατρός μου Αβρααμ καὶ ὁ θεὸς του̃ πατρός μου Ισαακ κύριε ὁ εἴπας μοι ἀπότρεχε εἰς τὴν γη̃ν τη̃ς γενέσεώς σου καὶ εὐ̃ σε ποιήσω (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque Jacob : Deus patris mei Abraham, et Deus patris mei Isaac : Domine qui dixisti mihi : Revertere in terram tuam, et in locum nativitatis tuæ, et benefaciam tibi : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃32 ויאמר יעקב אלהי אבי אברהם ואלהי אבי יצחק יהוה האמר אלי שוב לארצך ולמולדתך ואיטיבה עמך ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 11

I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

- Je suis trop petit pour toutes les grâces et pour toute la fidélité dont tu as usé envers ton serviteur; car j'ai passé ce Jourdain avec mon bâton, et maintenant je forme deux camps. (Ⅱ)

- ἱκανου̃ταί μοι ἀπὸ πάσης δικαιοσύνης καὶ ἀπὸ πάσης ἀληθείας ἡ̃ς ἐποίησας τω̨̃ παιδί σου ἐν γὰρ τη̨̃ ῥάβδω̨ μου διέβην τὸν Ιορδάνην του̃τον νυ̃ν δὲ γέγονα εἰς δύο παρεμβολάς (Ⅲ)

- minor sum cunctis miserationibus tuis, et veritate tua quam explevisti servo tuo. In baculo meo transivi Jordanem istum : et nunc cum duabus turmis regredior. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃32 קטנתי מכל החסדים ומכל האמת אשר עשית את עבדך כי במקלי עברתי את הירדן הזה ועתה הייתי לשני מחנות ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 12

Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.

- Délivre-moi, je te prie, de la main de mon frère, de la main d'Ésaü! car je crains qu'il ne vienne, et qu'il ne me frappe, avec la mère et les enfants. (Ⅱ)

- ἐξελου̃ με ἐκ χειρὸς του̃ ἀδελφου̃ μου Ησαυ ὅτι φοβου̃μαι ἐγὼ αὐτόν μήποτε ἐλθὼν πατάξη̨ με καὶ μητέρα ἐπὶ τέκνοις (Ⅲ)

- Erue me de manu fratris mei Esau, quia valde eum timeo : ne forte veniens percutiat matrem cum filiis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃32 הצילני נא מיד אחי מיד עשו כי ירא אנכי אתו פן יבוא והכני אם על בנים ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 13

And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

- Et toi, tu as dit: Je te ferai du bien, et je rendrai ta postérité comme le sable de la mer, si abondant qu'on ne saurait le compter. (Ⅱ)

- σὺ δὲ εἰ̃πας καλω̃ς εὐ̃ σε ποιήσω καὶ θήσω τὸ σπέρμα σου ὡς τὴν ἄμμον τη̃ς θαλάσσης ἣ οὐκ ἀριθμηθήσεται ἀπὸ του̃ πλήθους (Ⅲ)

- Tu locutus es quod benefaceres mihi, et dilatares semen meum sicut arenam maris, quæ præ multitudine numerari non potest. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃32 ואתה אמרת היטב איטיב עמך ושמתי את זרעך כחול הים אשר לא יספר מרב ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 14

And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;

- C'est dans ce lieu-là que Jacob passa la nuit. Il prit de ce qu'il avait sous la main, pour faire un présent à Ésaü, son frère: (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ἐκει̃ τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην καὶ ἔλαβεν ὡ̃ν ἔφερεν δω̃ρα καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν Ησαυ τω̨̃ ἀδελφω̨̃ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Cumque dormisset ibi nocte illa, separavit de his quæ habebat, munera Esau fratri suo, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃32 וילן שם בלילה ההוא ויקח מן הבא בידו מנחה לעשו אחיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 15

Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,

- deux cents chèvres et vingt boucs, deux cents brebis et vingt béliers, (Ⅱ)

- αἰ̃γας διακοσίας τράγους εἴκοσι πρόβατα διακόσια κριοὺς εἴκοσι (Ⅲ)

- capras ducentas, hircos viginti, oves ducentas, et arietes viginti, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃32 עזים מאתים ותישים עשרים רחלים מאתים ואילים עשרים ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 16

Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.

- trente femelles de chameaux avec leurs petits qu'elles allaitaient, quarante vaches et dix taureaux, vingt ânesses et dix ânes. (Ⅱ)

- καμήλους θηλαζούσας καὶ τὰ παιδία αὐτω̃ν τριάκοντα βόας τεσσαράκοντα ταύρους δέκα ὄνους εἴκοσι καὶ πώλους δέκα (Ⅲ)

- camelos fœtas cum pullis suis triginta, vaccas quadraginta, et tauros viginti, asinas viginti et pullos earum decem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃32 גמלים מיניקות ובניהם שלשים פרות ארבעים ופרים עשרה אתנת עשרים ועירם‪[1]‬ עשרה ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 17

And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove.

- Il les remit à ses serviteurs, troupeau par troupeau séparément, et il dit à ses serviteurs: Passez devant moi, et mettez un intervalle entre chaque troupeau. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔδωκεν διὰ χειρὸς τοι̃ς παισὶν αὐτου̃ ποίμνιον κατὰ μόνας εἰ̃πεν δὲ τοι̃ς παισὶν αὐτου̃ προπορεύεσθε ἔμπροσθέν μου καὶ διάστημα ποιει̃τε ἀνὰ μέσον ποίμνης καὶ ποίμνης (Ⅲ)

- Et misit per manus servorum suorum singulos seorsum greges, dixitque pueris suis : Antecedite me, et sit spatium inter gregem et gregem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃32 ויתן ביד עבדיו עדר עדר לבדו ויאמר אל עבדיו עברו לפני ורוח תשימו בין עדר ובין עדר ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 18

And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?

- Il donna cet ordre au premier: Quand Ésaü, mon frère, te rencontrera, et te demandera: A qui es-tu? où vas-tu? et à qui appartient ce troupeau devant toi? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐνετείλατο τω̨̃ πρώτω̨ λέγων ἐάν σοι συναντήση̨ Ησαυ ὁ ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἐρωτα̨̃ σε λέγων τίνος εἰ̃ καὶ που̃ πορεύη̨ καὶ τίνος ταυ̃τα τὰ προπορευόμενά σου (Ⅲ)

- Et præcepit priori, dicens : Si obvium habueris fratrem meum Esau, et interrogaverit te : Cujus es ? aut, Quo vadis ? aut, Cujus sunt ista quæ sequeris ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃32 ויצו את הראשון לאמר כי יפגשך‪[1]‬ עשו אחי ושאלך‪[1]‬ לאמר למי אתה ואנה תלך ולמי אלה לפניך ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 19

Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.

- tu répondras: A ton serviteur Jacob; c'est un présent envoyé à mon seigneur Ésaü; et voici, il vient lui-même derrière nous. (Ⅱ)

- ἐρει̃ς του̃ παιδός σου Ιακωβ δω̃ρα ἀπέσταλκεν τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου Ησαυ καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ὀπίσω ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- respondebis : Servi tui Jacob, munera misit domino meo Esau, ipse quoque post nos venit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃32 ואמרת לעבדך ליעקב מנחה הוא שלוחה לאדני לעשו והנה גם הוא אחרינו ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 20

And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.

- Il donna le même ordre au second, au troisième, et à tous ceux qui suivaient les troupeaux: C'est ainsi que vous parlerez à mon seigneur Ésaü, quand vous le rencontrerez. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐνετείλατο τω̨̃ πρώτω̨ καὶ τω̨̃ δευτέρω̨ καὶ τω̨̃ τρίτω̨ καὶ πα̃σι τοι̃ς προπορευομένοις ὀπίσω τω̃ν ποιμνίων τούτων λέγων κατὰ τὸ ῥη̃μα του̃το λαλήσατε Ησαυ ἐν τω̨̃ εὑρει̃ν ὑμα̃ς αὐτὸν (Ⅲ)

- Similiter dedit mandata secundo, et tertio, et cunctis qui sequebantur greges, dicens : Iisdem verbis loquimini ad Esau cum inveneritis eum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃32 ויצו גם את השני גם את השלישי גם את כל ההלכים אחרי העדרים לאמר כדבר הזה תדברון אל עשו במצאכם אתו ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 21

And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.

- Vous direz: Voici, ton serviteur Jacob vient aussi derrière nous. Car il se disait: Je l'apaiserai par ce présent qui va devant moi; ensuite je le verrai en face, et peut-être m'accueillera-t-il favorablement. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐρει̃τε ἰδοὺ ὁ παι̃ς σου Ιακωβ παραγίνεται ὀπίσω ἡμω̃ν εἰ̃πεν γάρ ἐξιλάσομαι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ ἐν τοι̃ς δώροις τοι̃ς προπορευομένοις αὐτου̃ καὶ μετὰ του̃το ὄψομαι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ ἴσως γὰρ προσδέξεται τὸ πρόσωπόν μου (Ⅲ)

- Et addetis : Ipse quoque servus tuus Jacob iter nostrum insequitur. Dixit enim : Placabo illum muneribus quæ præcedunt, et postea videbo illum : forsitan propitiabitur mihi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃32 ואמרתם גם הנה עבדך יעקב אחרינו כי אמר אכפרה פניו במנחה ההלכת לפני ואחרי כן אראה פניו אולי ישא פני ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 22

So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.

- Le présent passa devant lui; et il resta cette nuit-là dans le camp. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ παρεπορεύοντο τὰ δω̃ρα κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ αὐτὸς δὲ ἐκοιμήθη τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην ἐν τη̨̃ παρεμβολη̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Præcesserunt itaque munera ante eum, ipse vero mansit nocte illa in castris.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃32 ותעבר המנחה על פניו והוא לן בלילה ההוא במחנה ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 23

And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.

- Il se leva la même nuit, prit ses deux femmes, ses deux servantes, et ses onze enfants, et passa le gué de Jabbok. (Ⅱ)

- ἀναστὰς δὲ τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην ἔλαβεν τὰς δύο γυναι̃κας καὶ τὰς δύο παιδίσκας καὶ τὰ ἕνδεκα παιδία αὐτου̃ καὶ διέβη τὴν διάβασιν του̃ Ιαβοκ (Ⅲ)

- Cumque mature surrexisset, tulit duas uxores suas, et totidem famulas cum undecim filiis, et transivit vadum Jaboc. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃32 ויקם בלילה הוא ויקח את שתי נשיו ואת שתי שפחתיו ואת אחד עשר ילדיו ויעבר את מעבר יבק ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 24

And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.

- Il les prit, leur fit passer le torrent, et le fit passer à tout ce qui lui appartenait. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτοὺς καὶ διέβη τὸν χειμάρρουν καὶ διεβίβασεν πάντα τὰ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Traductisque omnibus quæ ad se pertinebant, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃32 ויקחם ויעברם את הנחל ויעבר את אשר לו‪[1]‬ ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 25

And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

- Jacob demeura seul. Alors un homme lutta avec lui jusqu'au lever de l'aurore. (Ⅱ)

- ὑπελείφθη δὲ Ιακωβ μόνος καὶ ἐπάλαιεν ἄνθρωπος μετ' αὐτου̃ ἕως πρωί (Ⅲ)

- mansit solus : et ecce vir luctabatur cum eo usque mane. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃32 ויותר יעקב לבדו ויאבק איש עמו עד עלות השחר ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 26

And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

- Voyant qu'il ne pouvait le vaincre, cet homme le frappa à l'emboîture de la hanche; et l'emboîture de la hanche de Jacob se démit pendant qu'il luttait avec lui. (Ⅱ)

- εἰ̃δεν δὲ ὅτι οὐ δύναται πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ ἥψατο του̃ πλάτους του̃ μηρου̃ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐνάρκησεν τὸ πλάτος του̃ μηρου̃ Ιακωβ ἐν τω̨̃ παλαίειν αὐτὸν μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Qui cum videret quod eum superare non posset, tetigit nervum femoris ejus, et statim emarcuit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 26 ׃32 וירא כי לא יכל לו ויגע בכף ירכו ותקע כף ירך יעקב בהאבקו עמו ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 27

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

- Il dit: Laisse-moi aller, car l'aurore se lève. Et Jacob répondit: Je ne te laisserai point aller, que tu ne m'aies béni. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ ἀπόστειλόν με ἀνέβη γὰρ ὁ ὄρθρος ὁ δὲ εἰ̃πεν οὐ μή σε ἀποστείλω ἐὰν μή με εὐλογήση̨ς (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque ad eum : Dimitte me : jam enim ascendit aurora. Respondit : Non dimittam te, nisi benedixeris mihi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 27 ׃32 ויאמר שלחני כי עלה השחר ויאמר לא אשלחך כי אם ברכתני ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 28

And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

- Il lui dit: Quel est ton nom? Et il répondit: Jacob. (Ⅱ)

- εἰ̃πεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ τί τὸ ὄνομά σού ἐστιν ὁ δὲ εἰ̃πεν Ιακωβ (Ⅲ)

- Ait ergo : Quod nomen est tibi ? Respondit : Jacob. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 28 ׃32 ויאמר אליו מה שמך ויאמר יעקב ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 29

And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

- Il dit encore: ton nom ne sera plus Jacob, mais tu seras appelé Israël; car tu as lutté avec Dieu et avec des hommes, et tu as été vainqueur. (Ⅱ)

- εἰ̃πεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ οὐ κληθήσεται ἔτι τὸ ὄνομά σου Ιακωβ ἀλλὰ Ισραηλ ἔσται τὸ ὄνομά σου ὅτι ἐνίσχυσας μετὰ θεου̃ καὶ μετὰ ἀνθρώπων δυνατός (Ⅲ)

- At ille : Nequaquam, inquit, Jacob appellabitur nomen tuum, sed Israël : quoniam si contra Deum fortis fuisti, quanto magis contra homines prævalebis ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 29 ׃32 ויאמר לא יעקב יאמר עוד שמך כי אם ישראל כי שרית עם אלהים ועם אנשים ותוכל ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 30

And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

- Jacob l'interrogea, en disant: Fais-moi je te prie, connaître ton nom. Il répondit: Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom? Et il le bénit là. (Ⅱ)

- ἠρώτησεν δὲ Ιακωβ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἀνάγγειλόν μοι τὸ ὄνομά σου καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἵνα τί του̃το ἐρωτα̨̃ς τὸ ὄνομά μου καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτὸν ἐκει̃ (Ⅲ)

- Interrogavit eum Jacob : Dic mihi, quo appellaris nomine ? Respondit : Cur quæris nomen meum ? Et benedixit ei in eodem loco. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 30 ׃32 וישאל יעקב ויאמר הגידה נא שמך ויאמר למה זה תשאל לשמי ויברך אתו שם ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 31

And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

- Jacob appela ce lieu du nom de Peniel: car, dit-il, j'ai vu Dieu face à face, et mon âme a été sauvée. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ιακωβ τὸ ὄνομα του̃ τόπου ἐκείνου Εἰ̃δος θεου̃ εἰ̃δον γὰρ θεὸν πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον καὶ ἐσώθη μου ἡ ψυχή (Ⅲ)

- Vocavitque Jacob nomen loci illius Phanuel, dicens : Vidi Deum facie ad faciem, et salva facta est anima mea. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 31 ׃32 ויקרא יעקב שם המקום פניאל כי ראיתי אלהים פנים אל פנים ותנצל נפשי ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 32

And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

- Le soleil se levait, lorsqu'il passa Peniel. Jacob boitait de la hanche. (Ⅱ)

- ἀνέτειλεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ ὁ ἥλιος ἡνίκα παρη̃λθεν τὸ Εἰ̃δος του̃ θεου̃ αὐτὸς δὲ ἐπέσκαζεν τω̨̃ μηρω̨̃ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Ortusque est ei statim sol, postquam transgressus est Phanuel : ipse vero claudicabat pede. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 32 ׃32 ויזרח לו השמש כאשר עבר את פנואל והוא צלע על ירכו ‬ (Ⅴ)

32. 33

Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.

- C'est pourquoi jusqu'à ce jour, les enfants d'Israël ne mangent point le tendon qui est à l'emboîture de la hanche; car Dieu frappa Jacob à l'emboîture de la hanche, au tendon. (Ⅱ)

- ἕνεκεν τούτου οὐ μὴ φάγωσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ νευ̃ρον ὃ ἐνάρκησεν ὅ ἐστιν ἐπὶ του̃ πλάτους του̃ μηρου̃ ἕως τη̃ς ἡμέρας ταύτης ὅτι ἥψατο του̃ πλάτους του̃ μηρου̃ Ιακωβ του̃ νεύρου καὶ ἐνάρκησεν (Ⅲ)

- Quam ob causam non comedunt nervum filii Israël, qui emarcuit in femore Jacob, usque in præsentem diem : eo quod tetigerit nervum femoris ejus, et obstupuerit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 33 ׃32 על כן לא יאכלו בני ישראל את גיד הנשה אשר על כף הירך עד היום הזה כי נגע בכף ירך יעקב בגיד הנשה ‬ (Ⅴ)
