6. 1

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

- Lorsque les hommes eurent commencé à se multiplier sur la face de la terre, et que des filles leur furent nées, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα ἤρξαντο οἱ ἄνθρωποι πολλοὶ γίνεσθαι ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ θυγατέρες ἐγενήθησαν αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Cumque cœpissent homines multiplicari super terram, et filias procreassent, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃6 ויהי כי החל האדם לרב על פני האדמה ובנות ילדו להם ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 2

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

- les fils de Dieu virent que les filles des hommes étaient belles, et ils en prirent pour femmes parmi toutes celles qu'ils choisirent. (Ⅱ)

- ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ του̃ θεου̃ τὰς θυγατέρας τω̃ν ἀνθρώπων ὅτι καλαί εἰσιν ἔλαβον ἑαυτοι̃ς γυναι̃κας ἀπὸ πασω̃ν ὡ̃ν ἐξελέξαντο (Ⅲ)

- videntes filii Dei filias hominum quod essent pulchræ, acceperunt sibi uxores ex omnibus, quas elegerant. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃6 ויראו בני האלהים את בנות האדם כי טבת הנה ויקחו להם נשים מכל אשר בחרו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 3

And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

- Alors l'Éternel dit: Mon esprit ne restera pas à toujours dans l'homme, car l'homme n'est que chair, et ses jours seront de cent vingt ans. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος ὁ θεός οὐ μὴ καταμείνη̨ τὸ πνευ̃μά μου ἐν τοι̃ς ἀνθρώποις τούτοις εἰς τὸν αἰω̃να διὰ τὸ εἰ̃ναι αὐτοὺς σάρκας ἔσονται δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι αὐτω̃ν ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι ἔτη (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque Deus : Non permanebit spiritus meus in homine in æternum, quia caro est : eruntque dies illius centum viginti annorum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃6 ויאמר יהוה לא ידון רוחי באדם לעלם בשגם הוא בשר והיו ימיו מאה ועשרים שנה ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 4

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

- Les géants étaient sur la terre en ces temps-là, après que les fils de Dieu furent venus vers les filles des hommes, et qu'elles leur eurent donné des enfants: ce sont ces héros qui furent fameux dans l'antiquité. (Ⅱ)

- οἱ δὲ γίγαντες ἠ̃σαν ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς ἐν ται̃ς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις καὶ μετ' ἐκει̃νο ὡς ἂν εἰσεπορεύοντο οἱ υἱοὶ του̃ θεου̃ πρὸς τὰς θυγατέρας τω̃ν ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἐγεννω̃σαν ἑαυτοι̃ς ἐκει̃νοι ἠ̃σαν οἱ γίγαντες οἱ ἀπ' αἰω̃νος οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἱ ὀνομαστοί (Ⅲ)

- Gigantes autem erant super terram in diebus illis : postquam enim ingressi sunt filii Dei ad filias hominum, illæque genuerunt, isti sunt potentes a sæculo viri famosi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃6 הנפלים היו בארץ בימים ההם וגם אחרי כן אשר יבאו בני האלהים אל בנות האדם וילדו להם המה הגברים אשר מעולם אנשי השם פ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 5

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

- L'Éternel vit que la méchanceté des hommes était grande sur la terre, et que toutes les pensées de leur coeur se portaient chaque jour uniquement vers le mal. (Ⅱ)

- ἰδὼν δὲ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὅτι ἐπληθύνθησαν αἱ κακίαι τω̃ν ἀνθρώπων ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ πα̃ς τις διανοει̃ται ἐν τη̨̃ καρδία̨ αὐτου̃ ἐπιμελω̃ς ἐπὶ τὰ πονηρὰ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας (Ⅲ)

- Videns autem Deus quod multa malitia hominum esset in terra, et cuncta cogitatio cordis intenta esset ad malum omni tempore, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃6 וירא יהוה כי רבה רעת האדם בארץ וכל יצר מחשבת לבו רק רע כל היום ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 6

And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

- L'Éternel se repentit d'avoir fait l'homme sur la terre, et il fut affligé en son coeur. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐνεθυμήθη ὁ θεὸς ὅτι ἐποίησεν τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ διενοήθη (Ⅲ)

- pœnituit eum quod hominum fecisset in terra. Et tactus dolore cordis intrinsecus, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃6 וינחם יהוה כי עשה את האדם בארץ ויתעצב אל לבו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 7

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

- Et l'Éternel dit: J'exterminerai de la face de la terre l'homme que j'ai créé, depuis l'homme jusqu'au bétail, aux reptiles, et aux oiseaux du ciel; car je me repens de les avoir faits. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεός ἀπαλείψω τὸν ἄνθρωπον ὃν ἐποίησα ἀπὸ προσώπου τη̃ς γη̃ς ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους καὶ ἀπὸ ἑρπετω̃ν ἕως τω̃ν πετεινω̃ν του̃ οὐρανου̃ ὅτι ἐθυμώθην ὅτι ἐποίησα αὐτούς (Ⅲ)

- Delebo, inquit, hominem, quem creavi, a facie terræ, ab homine usque ad animantia, a reptili usque ad volucres cæli : pœnitet enim me fecisse eos.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃6 ויאמר יהוה אמחה את האדם אשר בראתי מעל פני האדמה מאדם עד בהמה עד רמש ועד עוף השמים כי נחמתי כי עשיתם ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 8

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

- Mais Noé trouva grâce aux yeux de l'Éternel. (Ⅱ)

- Νωε δὲ εὑ̃ρεν χάριν ἐναντίον κυρίου του̃ θεου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Noë vero invenit gratiam coram Domino. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃6 ונח מצא חן בעיני יהוה פ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 9

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

- Voici la postérité de Noé. Noé était un homme juste et intègre dans son temps; Noé marchait avec Dieu. (Ⅱ)

- αὑ̃ται δὲ αἱ γενέσεις Νωε Νωε ἄνθρωπος δίκαιος τέλειος ὢν ἐν τη̨̃ γενεα̨̃ αὐτου̃ τω̨̃ θεω̨̃ εὐηρέστησεν Νωε (Ⅲ)

- Hæ sunt generationes Noë : Noë vir justus atque perfectus fuit in generationibus suis ; cum Deo ambulavit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃6 אלה תולדת נח נח איש צדיק תמים היה בדרתיו את האלהים התהלך נח ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 10

And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

- Noé engendra trois fils: Sem, Cham et Japhet. (Ⅱ)

- ἐγέννησεν δὲ Νωε τρει̃ς υἱούς τὸν Σημ τὸν Χαμ τὸν Ιαφεθ (Ⅲ)

- Et genuit tres filios, Sem, Cham et Japheth. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃6 ויולד נח שלשה בנים את שם את חם ואת יפת ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 11

The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

- La terre était corrompue devant Dieu, la terre était pleine de violence. (Ⅱ)

- ἐφθάρη δὲ ἡ γη̃ ἐναντίον του̃ θεου̃ καὶ ἐπλήσθη ἡ γη̃ ἀδικίας (Ⅲ)

- Corrupta est autem terra coram Deo, et repleta est iniquitate. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃6 ותשחת הארץ לפני האלהים ותמלא הארץ חמס ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 12

And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

- Dieu regarda la terre, et voici, elle était corrompue; car toute chair avait corrompu sa voie sur la terre. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὴν γη̃ν καὶ ἠ̃ν κατεφθαρμένη ὅτι κατέφθειρεν πα̃σα σὰρξ τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Cumque vidisset Deus terram esse corruptam (omnis quippe caro corruperat viam suam super terram), (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃6 וירא אלהים את הארץ והנה נשחתה כי השחית כל בשר את דרכו על הארץ ס‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 13

And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

- Alors Dieu dit à Noé: La fin de toute chair est arrêtée par devers moi; car ils ont rempli la terre de violence; voici, je vais les détruire avec la terre. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Νωε καιρὸς παντὸς ἀνθρώπου ἥκει ἐναντίον μου ὅτι ἐπλήσθη ἡ γη̃ ἀδικίας ἀπ' αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ καταφθείρω αὐτοὺς καὶ τὴν γη̃ν (Ⅲ)

- dixit ad Noë : Finis universæ carnis venit coram me : repleta est terra iniquitate a facie eorum, et ego disperdam eos cum terra. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃6 ויאמר אלהים לנח קץ כל בשר בא לפני כי מלאה הארץ חמס מפניהם והנני משחיתם את הארץ ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 14

Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

- Fais-toi une arche de bois de gopher; tu disposeras cette arche en cellules, et tu l'enduiras de poix en dedans et en dehors. (Ⅱ)

- ποίησον οὐ̃ν σεαυτω̨̃ κιβωτὸν ἐκ ξύλων τετραγώνων νοσσιὰς ποιήσεις τὴν κιβωτὸν καὶ ἀσφαλτώσεις αὐτὴν ἔσωθεν καὶ ἔξωθεν τη̨̃ ἀσφάλτω̨ (Ⅲ)

- Fac tibi arcam de lignis lævigatis ; mansiunculas in arca facies, et bitumine linies intrinsecus et extrinsecus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃6 עשה לך תבת עצי גפר קנים תעשה את התבה וכפרת אתה מבית ומחוץ בכפר ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 15

And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

- Voici comment tu la feras: l'arche aura trois cents coudées de longueur, cinquante coudées de largeur et trente coudées de hauteur. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οὕτως ποιήσεις τὴν κιβωτόν τριακοσίων πήχεων τὸ μη̃κος τη̃ς κιβωτου̃ καὶ πεντήκοντα πήχεων τὸ πλάτος καὶ τριάκοντα πήχεων τὸ ὕψος αὐτη̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Et sic facies eam : trecentorum cubitorum erit longitudo arcæ, quinquaginta cubitorum latitudo, et triginta cubitorum altitudo illius. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃6 וזה אשר תעשה אתה שלש מאות אמה ארך התבה חמשים אמה רחבה ושלשים אמה קומתה ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 16

A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

- Tu feras à l'arche une fenêtre, que tu réduiras à une coudée en haut; tu établiras une porte sur le côté de l'arche; et tu construiras un étage inférieur, un second et un troisième. (Ⅱ)

- ἐπισυνάγων ποιήσεις τὴν κιβωτὸν καὶ εἰς πη̃χυν συντελέσεις αὐτὴν ἄνωθεν τὴν δὲ θύραν τη̃ς κιβωτου̃ ποιήσεις ἐκ πλαγίων κατάγαια διώροφα καὶ τριώροφα ποιήσεις αὐτήν (Ⅲ)

- Fenestram in arca facies, et in cubito consummabis summitatem ejus : ostium autem arcæ pones ex latere ; deorsum, cœnacula et tristega facies in ea./ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃6 צהר תעשה לתבה ואל אמה תכלנה‪[1]‬ מלמעלה ופתח התבה בצדה תשים תחתים שנים ושלשים תעשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 17

And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

- Et moi, je vais faire venir le déluge d'eaux sur la terre, pour détruire toute chair ayant souffle de vie sous le ciel; tout ce qui est sur la terre périra. (Ⅱ)

- ἐγὼ δὲ ἰδοὺ ἐπάγω τὸν κατακλυσμὸν ὕδωρ ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν καταφθει̃ραι πα̃σαν σάρκα ἐν ἡ̨̃ ἐστιν πνευ̃μα ζωη̃ς ὑποκάτω του̃ οὐρανου̃ καὶ ὅσα ἐὰν ἠ̨̃ ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς τελευτήσει (Ⅲ)

- Ecce ego adducam aquas diluvii super terram, ut interficiam omnem carnem, in qua spiritus vitæ est subter cælum : universa quæ in terra sunt, consumentur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃6 ואני הנני מביא את המבול מים על הארץ לשחת כל בשר אשר בו רוח חיים מתחת השמים כל אשר בארץ יגוע ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 18

But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

- Mais j'établis mon alliance avec toi; tu entreras dans l'arche, toi et tes fils, ta femme et les femmes de tes fils avec toi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ στήσω τὴν διαθήκην μου πρὸς σέ εἰσελεύση̨ δὲ εἰς τὴν κιβωτόν σὺ καὶ οἱ υἱοί σου καὶ ἡ γυνή σου καὶ αἱ γυναι̃κες τω̃ν υἱω̃ν σου μετὰ σου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Ponamque fœdus meum tecum : et ingredieris arcam tu et filii tui, uxor tua, et uxores filiorum tuorum tecum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃6 והקמתי את בריתי אתך ובאת אל התבה אתה ובניך ואשתך ונשי בניך אתך ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 19

And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.

- De tout ce qui vit, de toute chair, tu feras entrer dans l'arche deux de chaque espèce, pour les conserver en vie avec toi: il y aura un mâle et une femelle. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν κτηνω̃ν καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν ἑρπετω̃ν καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν θηρίων καὶ ἀπὸ πάσης σαρκός δύο δύο ἀπὸ πάντων εἰσάξεις εἰς τὴν κιβωτόν ἵνα τρέφη̨ς μετὰ σεαυτου̃ ἄρσεν καὶ θη̃λυ ἔσονται (Ⅲ)

- Et ex cunctis animantibus universæ carnis bina induces in arcam, ut vivant tecum : masculini sexus et feminini. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃6 ומכל החי מכל בשר שנים מכל תביא אל התבה להחית אתך זכר ונקבה יהיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 20

Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.

- Des oiseaux selon leur espèce, du bétail selon son espèce, et de tous les reptiles de la terre selon leur espèce, deux de chaque espèce viendront vers toi, pour que tu leur conserves la vie. (Ⅱ)

- ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν ὀρνέων τω̃ν πετεινω̃ν κατὰ γένος καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν κτηνω̃ν κατὰ γένος καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν ἑρπετω̃ν τω̃ν ἑρπόντων ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς κατὰ γένος αὐτω̃ν δύο δύο ἀπὸ πάντων εἰσελεύσονται πρὸς σὲ τρέφεσθαι μετὰ σου̃ ἄρσεν καὶ θη̃λυ (Ⅲ)

- De volucribus juxta genus suum, et de jumentis in genere suo, et ex omni reptili terræ secundum genus suum : bina de omnibus ingredientur tecum, ut possint vivere. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃6 מהעוף למינהו ומן הבהמה למינה מכל רמש האדמה למינהו שנים מכל יבאו אליך להחיות ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 21

And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.

- Et toi, prends de tous les aliments que l'on mange, et fais-en une provision auprès de toi, afin qu'ils te servent de nourriture ainsi qu'à eux. (Ⅱ)

- σὺ δὲ λήμψη̨ σεαυτω̨̃ ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν βρωμάτων ἃ ἔδεσθε καὶ συνάξεις πρὸς σεαυτόν καὶ ἔσται σοὶ καὶ ἐκείνοις φαγει̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Tolles igitur tecum ex omnibus escis, quæ mandi possunt, et comportabis apud te : et erunt tam tibi, quam illis in cibum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃6 ואתה קח לך מכל מאכל אשר יאכל ואספת אליך והיה לך ולהם לאכלה ‬ (Ⅴ)

6. 22

Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

- C'est ce que fit Noé: il exécuta tout ce que Dieu lui avait ordonné. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐποίησεν Νωε πάντα ὅσα ἐνετείλατο αὐτω̨̃ κύριος ὁ θεός οὕτως ἐποίησεν (Ⅲ)

- Fecit igitur Noë omnia quæ præceperat illi Deus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃6 ויעש נח ככל אשר צוה אתו אלהים כן עשה ס‬ (Ⅴ)
