10. 1

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

- Après cela, le roi des fils d'Ammon mourut, et Hanun, son fils, régna à sa place. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ ταυ̃τα καὶ ἀπέθανεν βασιλεὺς υἱω̃ν Αμμων καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Αννων υἱὸς αὐτου̃ ἀντ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Factum est autem post hæc ut moreretur rex filiorum Ammon, et regnavit Hanon filius ejus pro eo. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃10 ויהי אחרי כן וימת מלך בני עמון וימלך חנון בנו תחתיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 2

Then said David, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

- David dit: Je montrerai de la bienveillance à Hanun, fils de Nachasch, comme son père en a montré à mon égard. Et David envoya ses serviteurs pour le consoler au sujet de son père. Lorsque les serviteurs de David arrivèrent dans le pays des fils d'Ammon, (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ ποιήσω ἔλεος μετὰ Αννων υἱου̃ Ναας ὃν τρόπον ἐποίησεν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτου̃ μετ' ἐμου̃ ἔλεος καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ παρακαλέσαι αὐτὸν ἐν χειρὶ τω̃ν δούλων αὐτου̃ περὶ του̃ πατρὸς αὐτου̃ καὶ παρεγένοντο οἱ παι̃δες Δαυιδ εἰς τὴν γη̃ν υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque David : Faciam misericordiam cum Hanon filio Naas, sicut fecit pater ejus mecum misericordiam. Misit ergo David, consolans eum per servos suos super patris interitu. Cum autem venissent servi David in terram filiorum Ammon, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃10 ויאמר דוד אעשה חסד עם חנון בן נחש כאשר עשה אביו עמדי חסד וישלח דוד לנחמו ביד עבדיו אל אביו ויבאו עבדי דוד ארץ בני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 3

And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honor thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?

- les chefs des fils d'Ammon dirent à Hanun, leur maître: Penses-tu que ce soit pour honorer ton père que David t'envoie des consolateurs? N'est-ce pas pour reconnaître et explorer la ville, et pour la détruire, qu'il envoie ses serviteurs auprès de toi? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πον οἱ ἄρχοντες υἱω̃ν Αμμων πρὸς Αννων τὸν κύριον αὐτω̃ν μὴ παρὰ τὸ δοξάζειν Δαυιδ τὸν πατέρα σου ἐνώπιόν σου ὅτι ἀπέστειλέν σοι παρακαλου̃ντας ἀλλ' οὐχὶ ὅπως ἐρευνήσωσιν τὴν πόλιν καὶ κατασκοπήσωσιν αὐτὴν καὶ του̃ κατασκέψασθαι αὐτὴν ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ τοὺς παι̃δας αὐτου̃ πρὸς σέ (Ⅲ)

- dixerunt principes filiorum Ammon ad Hanon dominum suum : Putas quod propter honorem patris tui miserit David ad te consolatores, et non ideo ut investigaret, et exploraret civitatem, et everteret eam, misit David servos suos ad te ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃10 ויאמרו שרי בני עמון אל חנון אדניהם המכבד דוד את אביך בעיניך כי שלח לך מנחמים הלוא בעבור חקור את העיר ולרגלה ולהפכה שלח דוד את עבדיו אליך ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 4

Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

- Alors Hanun saisit les serviteurs de David, leur fit raser la moitié de la barbe, et fit couper leurs habits par le milieu jusqu'au haut des cuisses. Puis il les congédia. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔλαβεν Αννων τοὺς παι̃δας Δαυιδ καὶ ἐξύρησεν τοὺς πώγωνας αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἀπέκοψεν τοὺς μανδύας αὐτω̃ν ἐν τω̨̃ ἡμίσει ἕως τω̃ν ἰσχίων αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτούς (Ⅲ)

- Tulit itaque Hanon servos David, rasitque dimidiam partem barbæ eorum et præscidit vestes eorum medias usque ad nates, et dimisit eos. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃10 ויקח חנון את עבדי דוד ויגלח את חצי זקנם ויכרת את מדויהם בחצי עד שתותיהם וישלחם ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 5

When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

- David, qui fut informé, envoya des gens à leur rencontre, car ces hommes étaient dans une grande confusion; et le roi leur fit dire: Restez à Jéricho jusqu'à ce que votre barbe ait repoussé, et revenez ensuite. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνήγγειλαν τω̨̃ Δαυιδ ὑπὲρ τω̃ν ἀνδρω̃ν καὶ ἀπέστειλεν εἰς ἀπαντὴν αὐτω̃ν ὅτι ἠ̃σαν οἱ ἄνδρες ἠτιμασμένοι σφόδρα καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεύς καθίσατε ἐν Ιεριχω ἕως του̃ ἀνατει̃λαι τοὺς πώγωνας ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἐπιστραφήσεσθε (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum nuntiatum esset David, misit in occursum eorum : erant enim viri confusi turpiter valde, et mandavit eis David : Manete in Jericho donec crescat barba vestra, et tunc revertimini.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃10 ויגדו לדוד וישלח לקראתם כי היו האנשים נכלמים מאד ויאמר המלך שבו בירחו עד יצמח זקנכם ושבתם ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 6

And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.

- Les fils d'Ammon, voyant qu'ils s'étaient rendus odieux à David, firent enrôler à leur solde vingt mille hommes de pied chez les Syriens de Beth Rehob et chez les Syriens de Tsoba, mille hommes chez le roi de Maaca, et douze mille hommes chez les gens de Tob. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δαν οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων ὅτι κατη̨σχύνθησαν ὁ λαὸς Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλαν οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων καὶ ἐμισθώσαντο τὴν Συρίαν Βαιθροωβ εἴκοσι χιλιάδας πεζω̃ν καὶ τὸν βασιλέα Μααχα χιλίους ἄνδρας καὶ Ιστωβ δώδεκα χιλιάδας ἀνδρω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Videntes autem filii Ammon quod injuriam fecissent David, miserunt, et conduxerunt mercede Syrum Rohob, et Syrum Soba, viginti millia peditum, et a rege Maacha mille viros, et ab Istob duodecim millia virorum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃10 ויראו בני עמון כי נבאשו בדוד וישלחו בני עמון וישכרו את ארם בית רחוב ואת ארם צובא עשרים אלף רגלי ואת מלך מעכה אלף איש ואיש טוב שנים עשר אלף איש ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 7

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

- A cette nouvelle, David envoya contre eux Joab et toute l'armée, les hommes vaillants. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἤκουσεν Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν Ιωαβ καὶ πα̃σαν τὴν δύναμιν τοὺς δυνατούς (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum audisset David, misit Joab et omnem exercitum bellatorum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃10 וישמע דוד וישלח את יואב ואת כל הצבא הגברים ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 8

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.

- Les fils d'Ammon sortirent, et se rangèrent en bataille à l'entrée de la porte; les Syriens de Tsoba et de Rehob, et les hommes de Tob et de Maaca, étaient à part dans la campagne. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξη̃λθαν οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων καὶ παρετάξαντο πόλεμον παρὰ τη̨̃ θύρα̨ τη̃ς πύλης καὶ Συρία Σουβα καὶ Ροωβ καὶ Ιστωβ καὶ Μααχα μόνοι ἐν ἀγρω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Egressi sunt ergo filii Ammon, et direxerunt aciem ante ipsum introitum portæ : Syrus autem Soba, et Rohob, et Istob, et Maacha, seorsum erant in campo. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃10 ויצאו בני עמון ויערכו מלחמה פתח השער וארם צובא ורחוב ואיש טוב ומעכה לבדם בשדה ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 9

When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:

- Joab vit qu'il avait à combattre par devant et par derrière. Il choisit alors sur toute l'élite d'Israël un corps, qu'il opposa aux Syriens; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν Ιωαβ ὅτι ἐγενήθη πρὸς αὐτὸν ἀντιπρόσωπον του̃ πολέμου ἐκ του̃ κατὰ πρόσωπον ἐξ ἐναντίας καὶ ἐκ του̃ ὄπισθεν καὶ ἐπέλεξεν ἐκ πάντων τω̃ν νεανίσκων Ισραηλ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐξ ἐναντίας Συρίας (Ⅲ)

- Videns igitur Joab quod præparatum esset adversum se prælium et ex adverso et post tergum, elegit ex omnibus electis Israël, et instruxit aciem contra Syrum : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃10 וירא יואב כי היתה אליו פני המלחמה מפנים ומאחור ויבחר מכל בחורי *בישראל **ישראל ויערך לקראת ארם ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 10

And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.

- et il plaça sous le commandement de son frère Abischaï le reste du peuple, pour faire face aux fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ τὸ κατάλοιπον του̃ λαου̃ ἔδωκεν ἐν χειρὶ Αβεσσα του̃ ἀδελφου̃ αὐτου̃ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐξ ἐναντίας υἱω̃ν Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- reliquam autem partem populi tradidit Abisai fratri suo, qui direxit aciem adversus filios Ammon. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃10 ואת יתר העם נתן ביד אבשי אחיו ויערך לקראת בני עמון ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 11

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.

- Il dit: Si les Syriens sont plus forts que moi, tu viendras à mon secours; et si les fils d'Ammon sont plus forts que toi, j'irai te secourir. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἐὰν κραταιωθη̨̃ Συρία ὑπὲρ ἐμέ καὶ ἔσεσθέ μοι εἰς σωτηρίαν καὶ ἐὰν υἱοὶ Αμμων κραταιωθω̃σιν ὑπὲρ σέ καὶ ἐσόμεθα του̃ σω̃σαί σε (Ⅲ)

- Et ait Joab : Si prævaluerint adversum me Syri, eris mihi in adjutorium : si autem filii Ammon prævaluerint adversum te, auxiliabor tibi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃10 ויאמר אם תחזק ארם ממני והיתה לי לישועה ואם בני עמון יחזקו ממך והלכתי להושיע לך ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 12

Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.

- Sois ferme, et montrons du courage pour notre peuple et pour les villes de notre Dieu, et que l'Éternel fasse ce qui lui semblera bon! (Ⅱ)

- ἀνδρίζου καὶ κραταιωθω̃μεν ὑπὲρ του̃ λαου̃ ἡμω̃ν καὶ περὶ τω̃ν πόλεων του̃ θεου̃ ἡμω̃ν καὶ κύριος ποιήσει τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Esto vir fortis, et pugnemus pro populo nostro et civitate Dei nostri : Dominus autem faciet quod bonum est in conspectu suo. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃10 חזק ונתחזק בעד עמנו ובעד ערי אלהינו ויהוה יעשה הטוב בעיניו ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 13

And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.

- Joab, avec son peuple, s'avança pour attaquer les Syriens, et ils s'enfuirent devant lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ προση̃λθεν Ιωαβ καὶ ὁ λαὸς αὐτου̃ μετ' αὐτου̃ εἰς πόλεμον πρὸς Συρίαν καὶ ἔφυγαν ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Iniit itaque Joab, et populus qui erat cum eo, certamen contra Syros : qui statim fugerunt a facie ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃10 ויגש יואב והעם אשר עמו למלחמה בארם וינסו מפניו ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 14

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.

- Et quand les fils d'Ammon virent que les Syriens avaient pris la fuite, ils s'enfuirent aussi devant Abischaï et rentrèrent dans la ville. Joab s'éloigna des fils d'Ammon et revint à Jérusalem. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων εἰ̃δαν ὅτι ἔφυγεν Συρία καὶ ἔφυγαν ἀπὸ προσώπου Αβεσσα καὶ εἰση̃λθαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἀνέστρεψεν Ιωαβ ἀπὸ τω̃ν υἱω̃ν Αμμων καὶ παρεγένοντο εἰς Ιερουσαλημ (Ⅲ)

- Filii autem Ammon videntes quia fugissent Syri, fugerunt et ipsi a facie Abisai, et ingressi sunt civitatem : reversusque est Joab a filiis Ammon, et venit Jerusalem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃10 ובני עמון ראו כי נס ארם וינסו מפני אבישי ויבאו העיר וישב יואב מעל בני עמון ויבא ירושלם ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 15

And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.

- Les Syriens, voyant qu'ils avaient été battus par Israël, réunirent leurs forces. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν Συρία ὅτι ἔπταισεν ἔμπροσθεν Ισραηλ καὶ συνήχθησαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό (Ⅲ)

- Videntes igitur Syri quoniam corruissent coram Israël, congregati sunt pariter. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃10 וירא ארם כי נגף לפני ישראל ויאספו יחד ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 16

And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

- Hadadézer envoya chercher les Syriens qui étaient de l'autre côté du fleuve; et ils arrivèrent à Hélam, ayant à leur tête Schobac, chef de l'armée d'Hadadézer. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Αδρααζαρ καὶ συνήγαγεν τὴν Συρίαν τὴν ἐκ του̃ πέραν του̃ ποταμου̃ Χαλαμακ καὶ παρεγένοντο Αιλαμ καὶ Σωβακ ἄρχων τη̃ς δυνάμεως Αδρααζαρ ἔμπροσθεν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Misitque Adarezer, et eduxit Syros qui erant trans fluvium, et adduxit eorum exercitum : Sobach autem, magister militiæ Adarezer, erat princeps eorum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃10 וישלח הדדעזר ויצא את ארם אשר מעבר הנהר ויבאו חילם ושובך שר צבא הדדעזר לפניהם ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 17

And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.

- On l'annonça à David, qui assembla tout Israël, passa le Jourdain, et vint à Hélam. Les Syriens se préparèrent à la rencontre de David, et lui livrèrent bataille. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνηγγέλη τω̨̃ Δαυιδ καὶ συνήγαγεν τὸν πάντα Ισραηλ καὶ διέβη τὸν Ιορδάνην καὶ παρεγένοντο εἰς Αιλαμ καὶ παρετάξατο Συρία ἀπέναντι Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπολέμησαν μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum nuntiatum esset David, contraxit omnem Israëlem, et transivit Jordanem, venitque in Helam : et direxerunt aciem Syri ex adverso David, et pugnaverunt contra eum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃10 ויגד לדוד סויאסף את כל ישראל ויעבר את הירדן ויבא חלאמה ויערכו ארם לקראת דוד וילחמו עמו ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 18

And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.

- Mais les Syriens s'enfuirent devant Israël. Et David leur tua les troupes de sept cents chars et quarante mille cavaliers; il frappa aussi le chef de leur armée, Schobac, qui mourut sur place. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔφυγεν Συρία ἀπὸ προσώπου Ισραηλ καὶ ἀνει̃λεν Δαυιδ ἐκ τη̃ς Συρίας ἑπτακόσια ἅρματα καὶ τεσσαράκοντα χιλιάδας ἱππέων καὶ τὸν Σωβακ τὸν ἄρχοντα τη̃ς δυνάμεως αὐτου̃ ἐπάταξεν καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐκει̃ (Ⅲ)

- Fugeruntque Syri a facie Israël, et occidit David de Syris septingentos currus, et quadraginta millia equitum : et Sobach principem militiæ percussit, qui statim mortuus est. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃10 וינס ארם מפני ישראל ויהרג דוד מארם שבע מאות רכב וארבעים אלף פרשים ואת שובך שר צבאו הכה וימת שם ‬ (Ⅴ)

10. 19

And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.

- Tous les rois soumis à Hadadézer, se voyant battus par Israël, firent la paix avec Israël et lui furent assujettis. Et les Syriens n'osèrent plus secourir les fils d'Ammon. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δαν πάντες οἱ βασιλει̃ς οἱ δου̃λοι Αδρααζαρ ὅτι ἔπταισαν ἔμπροσθεν Ισραηλ καὶ ηὐτομόλησαν μετὰ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐδούλευσαν αὐτοι̃ς καὶ ἐφοβήθη Συρία του̃ σω̃σαι ἔτι τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων (Ⅲ)

- Videntes autem universi reges qui erant in præsidio Adarezer, se victos esse ab Israël, expaverunt, et fugerunt quinquaginta et octo millia coram Israël. Et fecerunt pacem cum Israël, et servierunt eis : timueruntque Syri auxilium præbere ultra filiis Ammon. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃10 ויראו כל המלכים עבדי הדדעזר כי נגפו לפני ישראל וישלמו את ישראל ויעבדום ויראו ארם להושיע עוד את בני עמון פ‬ (Ⅴ)
