18. 1

And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds over them.

- David passa en revue le peuple qui était avec lui, et il établit sur eux des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπεσκέψατο Δαυιδ τὸν λαὸν τὸν μετ' αὐτου̃ καὶ κατέστησεν ἐπ' αὐτω̃ν χιλιάρχους καὶ ἑκατοντάρχους (Ⅲ)

- Igitur considerato David populo suo, constituit super eos tribunos et centuriones, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃18 ויפקד דוד את העם אשר אתו וישם עליהם שרי אלפים ושרי מאות ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 2

And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.

- Il plaça le tiers du peuple sous le commandement de Joab, le tiers sous celui d'Abischaï, fils de Tseruja, frère de Joab, et le tiers sous celui d'Ittaï, de Gath. Et le roi dit au peuple: Moi aussi, je veux sortir avec vous. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ τὸν λαόν τὸ τρίτον ἐν χειρὶ Ιωαβ καὶ τὸ τρίτον ἐν χειρὶ Αβεσσα υἱου̃ Σαρουιας ἀδελφου̃ Ιωαβ καὶ τὸ τρίτον ἐν χειρὶ Εθθι του̃ Γεθθαίου καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ πρὸς τὸν λαόν ἐξελθὼν ἐξελεύσομαι καί γε ἐγὼ μεθ' ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- et dedit populi tertiam partem sub manu Joab, et tertiam partem sub manu Abisai filii Sarviæ fratris Joab, et tertiam partem sub manu Ethai, qui erat de Geth. Dixitque rex ad populum : Egrediar et ego vobiscum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃18 וישלח דוד את העם השלשית ביד יואב והשלשית ביד אבישי בן צרויה אחי יואב והשלשת ביד אתי הגתי סויאמר המלך אל העם יצא אצא גם אני עמכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 3

But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succor us out of the city.

- Mais le peuple dit: Tu ne sortiras point! Car si nous prenons la fuite, ce n'est pas sur nous que l'attention se portera; et quand la moitié d'entre nous succomberait, on n'y ferait pas attention; mais toi, tu es comme dix mille de nous, et maintenant il vaut mieux que de la ville tu puisses venir à notre secours. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃παν οὐκ ἐξελεύση̨ ὅτι ἐὰν φυγη̨̃ φύγωμεν οὐ θήσουσιν ἐφ' ἡμα̃ς καρδίαν καὶ ἐὰν ἀποθάνωμεν τὸ ἥμισυ ἡμω̃ν οὐ θήσουσιν ἐφ' ἡμα̃ς καρδίαν ὅτι σὺ ὡς ἡμει̃ς δέκα χιλιάδες καὶ νυ̃ν ἀγαθὸν ὅτι ἔση̨ ἡμι̃ν ἐν τη̨̃ πόλει βοήθεια του̃ βοηθει̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Et respondit populus : Non exibis : sive enim fugerimus, non magnopere ad eos de nobis pertinebit : sive media pars ceciderit e nobis, non satis curabunt, quia tu unus pro decem millibus computaris : melius est igitur ut sis nobis in urbe præsidio. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃18 ויאמר העם לא תצא כי אם נס ננוס לא ישימו אלינו לב ואם ימתו חצינו לא ישימו אלינו לב כי עתה כמנו עשרה אלפים ועתה טוב כי תהיה לנו מעיר *לעזיר **לעזור ס‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 4

And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.

- Le roi leur répondit: Je ferai ce qui vous paraît bon. Et le roi se tint à côté de la porte, pendant que tout le peuple sortait par centaines et par milliers. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὁ βασιλεύς ὃ ἐὰν ἀρέση̨ ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς ὑμω̃ν ποιήσω καὶ ἔστη ὁ βασιλεὺς ἀνὰ χει̃ρα τη̃ς πύλης καὶ πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς ἐξεπορεύετο εἰς ἑκατοντάδας καὶ εἰς χιλιάδας (Ⅲ)

- Ad quos rex ait : Quod vobis videtur rectum, hoc faciam. Stetit ergo rex juxta portam : egrediebaturque populus per turmas suas centeni et milleni. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃18 ויאמר אליהם המלך אשר ייטב בעיניכם אעשה ויעמד המלך אל יד השער וכל העם יצאו למאות ולאלפים ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 5

And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

- Le roi donna cet ordre à Joab, à Abischaï et à Ittaï: Pour l'amour de moi, doucement avec le jeune Absalom! Et tout le peuple entendit l'ordre du roi à tous les chefs au sujet d'Absalom. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς τω̨̃ Ιωαβ καὶ τω̨̃ Αβεσσα καὶ τω̨̃ Εθθι λέγων φείσασθέ μοι του̃ παιδαρίου του̃ Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς ἤκουσεν ἐντελλομένου του̃ βασιλέως πα̃σιν τοι̃ς ἄρχουσιν ὑπὲρ Αβεσσαλωμ (Ⅲ)

- Et præcepit rex Joab, et Abisai, et Ethai, dicens : Servate mihi puerum Absalom. Et omnis populus audiebat præcipientem regem cunctis principibus pro Absalom.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃18 ויצו המלך את יואב ואת אבישי ואת אתי לאמר לאט לי לנער לאבשלום וכל העם שמעו בצות המלך את כל השרים על דבר אבשלום ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 6

So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;

- Le peuple sortit dans les champs à la rencontre d'Israël, et la bataille eut lieu dans la forêt d'Éphraïm. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς εἰς τὸν δρυμὸν ἐξ ἐναντίας Ισραηλ καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ πόλεμος ἐν τω̨̃ δρυμω̨̃ Εφραιμ (Ⅲ)

- Itaque egressus est populus in campum contra Israël, et factum est prælium in saltu Ephraim. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃18 ויצא העם השדה לקראת ישראל ותהי המלחמה ביער אפרים ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 7

Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.

- Là, le peuple d'Israël fut battu par les serviteurs de David, et il y eut en ce jour une grande défaite de vingt mille hommes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔπταισεν ἐκει̃ ὁ λαὸς Ισραηλ ἐνώπιον τω̃ν παίδων Δαυιδ καὶ ἐγένετο ἡ θραυ̃σις μεγάλη ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐκείνη̨ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες ἀνδρω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Et cæsus est ibi populus Israël ab exercitu David, factaque est plaga magna in die illa, viginti millium. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃18 וינגפו שם עם ישראל לפני עבדי דוד ותהי שם המגפה גדולה ביום ההוא עשרים אלף ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 8

For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

- Le combat s'étendit sur toute la contrée, et la forêt dévora plus de peuple ce jour-là que l'épée n'en dévora. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἐκει̃ ὁ πόλεμος διεσπαρμένος ἐπὶ πρόσωπον πάσης τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ ἐπλεόνασεν ὁ δρυμὸς του̃ καταφαγει̃ν ἐκ του̃ λαου̃ ὑπὲρ οὓς κατέφαγεν ἐν τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ ἡ μάχαιρα ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐκείνη̨ (Ⅲ)

- Fuit autem ibi prælium dispersum super faciem omnis terræ, et multo plures erant quos saltus consumpserat de populo, quam hi quos voraverat gladius in die illa. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃18 ותהי שם המלחמה *נפצית **נפצת‪[k]‬ על פני כל הארץ וירב היער לאכל בעם מאשר אכלה החרב ביום ההוא ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 9

And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

- Absalom se trouva en présence des gens de David. Il était monté sur un mulet. Le mulet pénétra sous les branches entrelacées d'un grand térébinthe, et la tête d'Absalom fut prise au térébinthe; il demeura suspendu entre le ciel et la terre, et le mulet qui était sous lui passa outre. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ συνήντησεν Αβεσσαλωμ ἐνώπιον τω̃ν παίδων Δαυιδ καὶ Αβεσσαλωμ ἐπιβεβηκὼς ἐπὶ του̃ ἡμιόνου αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰση̃λθεν ὁ ἡμίονος ὑπὸ τὸ δάσος τη̃ς δρυὸς τη̃ς μεγάλης καὶ ἐκρεμάσθη ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτου̃ ἐν τη̨̃ δρυί καὶ ἐκρεμάσθη ἀνὰ μέσον του̃ οὐρανου̃ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ ὁ ἡμίονος ὑποκάτω αὐτου̃ παρη̃λθεν (Ⅲ)

- Accidit autem ut occurreret Absalom servis David, sedens mulo : cumque ingressus fuisset mulus subter condensam quercum et magnam, adhæsit caput ejus quercui : et illo suspenso inter cælum et terram, mulus cui insederat, pertransivit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃18 ויקרא אבשלום לפני עבדי דוד ואבשלום רכב על הפרד ויבא הפרד תחת שובך האלה הגדולה ויחזק ראשו באלה ויתן בין השמים ובין הארץ והפרד אשר תחתיו עבר ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 10

And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.

- Un homme ayant vu cela vint dire à Joab: Voici, j'ai vu Absalom suspendu à un térébinthe. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν ἀνὴρ εἱ̃ς καὶ ἀνήγγειλεν Ιωαβ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἰδοὺ ἑώρακα τὸν Αβεσσαλωμ κρεμάμενον ἐν τη̨̃ δρυί (Ⅲ)

- Vidit autem hoc quispiam, et nuntiavit Joab, dicens : Vidi Absalom pendere de quercu. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃18 וירא איש אחד ויגד ליואב ויאמר הנה ראיתי את אבשלם תלוי באלה ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 11

And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.

- Et Joab dit à l'homme qui lui apporta cette nouvelle: Tu l'as vu! pourquoi donc ne l'as-tu pas abattu sur place? Je t'aurais donné dix sicles d'argent et une ceinture. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιωαβ τω̨̃ ἀνδρὶ τω̨̃ ἀπαγγέλλοντι καὶ ἰδοὺ ἑόρακας τί ὅτι οὐκ ἐπάταξας αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν γη̃ν καὶ ἐγὼ ἂν δεδώκειν σοι δέκα ἀργυρίου καὶ παραζώνην μίαν (Ⅲ)

- Et ait Joab viro qui nuntiaverat ei : Si vidisti, quare non confodisti eum cum terra, et ego dedissem tibi decem argenti siclos, et unum balteum ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃18 ויאמר יואב לאיש המגיד לו והנה ראית ומדוע לא הכיתו שם ארצה ועלי לתת לך עשרה כסף וחגרה אחת ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 12

And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

- Mais cet homme dit à Joab: Quand je pèserais dans ma main mille sicles d'argent, je ne mettrais pas la main sur le fils du roi; car nous avons entendu cet ordre que le roi t'a donné, à toi, à Abischaï et à Ittaï: Prenez garde chacun au jeune Absalom! (Ⅱ)

- εἰ̃πεν δὲ ὁ ἀνὴρ πρὸς Ιωαβ καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ἵστημι ἐπὶ τὰς χει̃ράς μου χιλίους σίκλους ἀργυρίου οὐ μὴ ἐπιβάλω χει̃ρά μου ἐπὶ τὸν υἱὸν του̃ βασιλέως ὅτι ἐν τοι̃ς ὠσὶν ἡμω̃ν ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς σοὶ καὶ Αβεσσα καὶ τω̨̃ Εθθι λέγων φυλάξατέ μοι τὸ παιδάριον τὸν Αβεσσαλωμ (Ⅲ)

- Qui dixit ad Joab : Si appenderes in manibus meis mille argenteos, nequaquam mitterem manum meam in filium regis : audientibus enim nobis præcepit rex tibi, et Abisai, et Ethai, dicens : Custodite mihi puerum Absalom. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃18 ויאמר האיש אל יואב *ולא **ולוא‪[k]‬ אנכי שקל על כפי אלף כסף לא אשלח ידי אל בן המלך כי באזנינו צוה המלך אתך ואת אבישי ואת אתי לאמר שמרו מי בנער באבשלום ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 13

Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.

- Et si j'eusse attenté perfidement à sa vie, rien n'aurait été caché au roi, et tu aurais été toi-même contre moi. (Ⅱ)

- μὴ ποιη̃σαι ἐν τη̨̃ ψυχη̨̃ αὐτου̃ ἄδικον καὶ πα̃ς ὁ λόγος οὐ λήσεται ἀπὸ του̃ βασιλέως καὶ σὺ στήση̨ ἐξ ἐναντίας (Ⅲ)

- Sed etsi fecissem contra animam meam audacter, nequaquam hoc regem latere potuisset, et tu stares ex adverso ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃18 או עשיתי *בנפשו **בנפשי שקר וכל דבר לא יכחד מן המלך ואתה תתיצב מנגד ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 14

Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

- Joab dit: Je ne m'arrêterai pas auprès de toi! Et il prit en main trois javelots, et les enfonça dans le coeur d'Absalom encore plein de vie au milieu du térébinthe. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιωαβ του̃το ἐγὼ ἄρξομαι οὐχ οὕτως μενω̃ ἐνώπιόν σου καὶ ἔλαβεν Ιωαβ τρία βέλη ἐν τη̨̃ χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐνέπηξεν αὐτὰ ἐν τη̨̃ καρδία̨ Αβεσσαλωμ ἔτι αὐτου̃ ζω̃ντος ἐν τη̨̃ καρδία̨ τη̃ς δρυὸς (Ⅲ)

- Et ait Joab : Non sicut tu vis, sed aggrediar eum coram te. Tulit ergo tres lanceas in manu sua, et infixit eas in corde Absalom : cumque adhuc palpitaret hærens in quercu, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃18 ויאמר יואב לא כן אחילה לפניך ויקח שלשה שבטים בכפו ויתקעם בלב אבשלום עודנו חי בלב האלה ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 15

And ten young men that bare Joab's armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

- Dix jeunes gens, qui portaient les armes de Joab, entourèrent Absalom, le frappèrent et le firent mourir. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐκύκλωσαν δέκα παιδάρια αἴροντα τὰ σκεύη Ιωαβ καὶ ἐπάταξαν τὸν Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ ἐθανάτωσαν αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- cucurrerunt decem juvenes armigeri Joab, et percutientes interfecerunt eum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃18 ויסבו עשרה נערים נשאי כלי יואב ויכו את אבשלום וימיתהו ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 16

And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.

- Joab fit sonner de la trompette; et le peuple revint, cessant ainsi de poursuivre Israël, parce que Joab l'en empêcha. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐσάλπισεν Ιωαβ ἐν κερατίνη̨ καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν ὁ λαὸς του̃ μὴ διώκειν ὀπίσω Ισραηλ ὅτι ἐφείδετο Ιωαβ του̃ λαου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Cecinit autem Joab buccina, et retinuit populum, ne persequeretur fugientem Israël, volens parcere multitudini. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃18 ויתקע יואב בשפר וישב העם מרדף אחרי ישראל כי חשך יואב את העם ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 17

And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

- Ils prirent Absalom, le jetèrent dans une grande fosse au milieu de la forêt, et mirent sur lui un très grand monceau de pierres. Tout Israël s'enfuit, chacun dans sa tente. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔλαβεν τὸν Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ ἔρριψεν αὐτὸν εἰς χάσμα μέγα ἐν τω̨̃ δρυμω̨̃ εἰς τὸν βόθυνον τὸν μέγαν καὶ ἐστήλωσεν ἐπ' αὐτὸν σωρὸν λίθων μέγαν σφόδρα καὶ πα̃ς Ισραηλ ἔφυγεν ἀνὴρ εἰς τὸ σκήνωμα αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Et tulerunt Absalom, et projecerunt eum in saltu, in foveam grandem, et comportaverunt super eum acervum lapidum magnum nimis : omnis autem Israël fugit in tabernacula sua. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃18 ויקחו את אבשלום וישליכו אתו ביער אל הפחת הגדול ויצבו עליו גל אבנים גדול מאד וכל ישראל נסו איש *לאהלו **לאהליו ס‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 18

Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.

- De son vivant, Absalom s'était fait ériger un monument dans la vallée du roi; car il disait: Je n'ai point de fils par qui le souvenir de mon nom puisse être conservé. Et il donna son propre nom au monument, qu'on appelle encore aujourd'hui monument d'Absalom. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Αβεσσαλωμ ἔτι ζω̃ν καὶ ἔστησεν ἑαυτω̨̃ τὴν στήλην ἐν ἡ̨̃ ἐλήμφθη καὶ ἐστήλωσεν αὐτὴν λαβει̃ν τὴν στήλην τὴν ἐν τη̨̃ κοιλάδι του̃ βασιλέως ὅτι εἰ̃πεν οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτω̨̃ υἱὸς ἕνεκεν του̃ ἀναμνη̃σαι τὸ ὄνομα αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὴν στήλην Χεὶρ Αβεσσαλωμ ἕως τη̃ς ἡμέρας ταύτης (Ⅲ)

- Porro Absalom erexerat sibi, cum adhuc viveret, titulum qui est in Valle regis : dixerat enim : Non habeo filium, et hoc erit monimentum nominis mei. Vocavitque titulum nomine suo, et appellatur Manus Absalom, usque ad hanc diem.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃18 ואבשלם לקח ויצב לו *בחיו **בחייו את מצבת אשר בעמק המלך כי אמר אין לי בן בעבור הזכיר שמי ויקרא למצבת על שמו ויקרא לה יד אבשלם עד היום הזה ס‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 19

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.

- Achimaats, fils de Tsadok, dit: Laisse-moi courir, et porter au roi la bonne nouvelle que l'Éternel lui a rendu justice en le délivrant de la main de ses ennemis. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Αχιμαας υἱὸς Σαδωκ εἰ̃πεν δράμω δὴ καὶ εὐαγγελιω̃ τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ ὅτι ἔκρινεν αὐτω̨̃ κύριος ἐκ χειρὸς τω̃ν ἐχθρω̃ν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Achimaas autem filius Sadoc, ait : Curram, et nuntiabo regi quia judicium fecerit ei Dominus de manu inimicorum ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃18 ואחימעץ בן צדוק אמר ארוצה נא ואבשרה את המלך כי שפטו יהוה מיד איביו ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 20

And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.

- Joab lui dit: Ce n'est pas toi qui dois porter aujourd'hui les nouvelles; tu les porteras un autre jour, mais non aujourd'hui, puisque le fils du roi est mort. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Ιωαβ οὐκ ἀνὴρ εὐαγγελίας σὺ ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ταύτη̨ καὶ εὐαγγελιη̨̃ ἐν ἡμέρα̨ ἄλλη̨ ἐν δὲ τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ταύτη̨ οὐκ εὐαγγελιη̨̃ οὑ̃ εἵνεκεν ὁ υἱὸς του̃ βασιλέως ἀπέθανεν (Ⅲ)

18. 21

Then said Joab to Cushy, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushy bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.

- Et Joab dit à Cuschi: Va, et annonce au roi ce que tu as vu. Cuschi se prosterna devant Joab, et courut. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιωαβ τω̨̃ Χουσι βαδίσας ἀνάγγειλον τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ ὅσα εἰ̃δες καὶ προσεκύνησεν Χουσι τω̨̃ Ιωαβ καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν (Ⅲ)

- Et ait Joab Chusi : Vade, et nuntia regi quæ vidisti. Adoravit Chusi Joab, et cucurrit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃18 ויאמר יואב לכושי לך הגד למלך אשר ראיתה וישתחו כושי ליואב וירץ ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 22

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushy. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?

- Achimaats, fils de Tsadok, dit encore à Joab: Quoi qu'il arrive, laisse-moi courir après Cuschi. Et Joab dit: Pourquoi veux-tu courir, mon fils? Ce n'est pas un message qui te sera profitable. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ προσέθετο ἔτι Αχιμαας υἱὸς Σαδωκ καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς Ιωαβ καὶ ἔστω ὅτι δράμω καί γε ἐγὼ ὀπίσω του̃ Χουσι καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιωαβ ἵνα τί του̃το τρέχεις υἱέ μου δευ̃ρο οὐκ ἔστιν σοι εὐαγγελία εἰς ὠφέλειαν πορευομένω̨ (Ⅲ)

- Rursus autem Achimaas filius Sadoc dixit ad Joab : Quid impedit si etiam ego curram post Chusi ? Dixitque ei Joab : Quid vis currere, fili mi ? non eris boni nuntii bajulus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃18 ויסף עוד אחימעץ בן צדוק ויאמר אל יואב ויהי מה ארצה נא גם אני אחרי הכושי ויאמר יואב למה זה אתה רץ בני ולכה אין בשורה מצאת ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 23

But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushy.

- Quoi qu'il arrive, je veux courir, reprit Achimaats. Et Joab lui dit: Cours! Achimaats courut par le chemin de la plaine, et il devança Cuschi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν τί γὰρ ἐὰν δραμου̃μαι καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ Ιωαβ δράμε καὶ ἔδραμεν Αχιμαας ὁδὸν τὴν του̃ Κεχαρ καὶ ὑπερέβη τὸν Χουσι (Ⅲ)

- Qui respondit : Quid enim si cucurrero ? Et ait ei : Curre. Currens ergo Achimaas per viam compendii, transivit Chusi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃18 ויהי מה ארוץ ויאמר לו רוץ וירץ אחימעץ דרך הככר ויעבר את הכושי ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 24

And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.

- David était assis entre les deux portes. La sentinelle alla sur le toit de la porte vers la muraille; elle leva les yeux et regarda. Et voici, un homme courait tout seul. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Δαυιδ ἐκάθητο ἀνὰ μέσον τω̃ν δύο πυλω̃ν καὶ ἐπορεύθη ὁ σκοπὸς εἰς τὸ δω̃μα τη̃ς πύλης πρὸς τὸ τει̃χος καὶ ἐπη̃ρεν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ̃δεν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ τρέχων μόνος ἐνώπιον αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- David autem sedebat inter duas portas : speculator vero, qui erat in fastigio portæ super murum, elevans oculos, vidit hominem currentem solum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃18 ודוד יושב בין שני השערים וילך הצפה אל גג השער אל החומה וישא את עיניו וירא והנה איש רץ לבדו ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 25

And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.

- La sentinelle cria, et avertit le roi. Le roi dit: S'il est seul, il apporte des nouvelles. Et cet homme arrivait toujours plus près. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνεβόησεν ὁ σκοπὸς καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεύς εἰ μόνος ἐστίν εὐαγγελία ἐν τω̨̃ στόματι αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐπορεύετο πορευόμενος καὶ ἐγγίζων (Ⅲ)

- Et exclamans indicavit regi : dixitque rex : Si solus est, bonus est nuntius in ore ejus. Properante autem illo, et accedente propius, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃18 ויקרא הצפה ויגד למלך ויאמר המלך אם לבדו בשורה בפיו וילך הלוך וקרב ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 26

And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.

- La sentinelle vit un autre homme qui courait; elle cria au portier: Voici un homme qui court tout seul. Le roi dit: Il apporte aussi des nouvelles. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃δεν ὁ σκοπὸς ἄνδρα ἕτερον τρέχοντα καὶ ἐβόησεν ὁ σκοπὸς πρὸς τη̨̃ πύλη̨ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἕτερος τρέχων μόνος καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεύς καί γε οὑ̃τος εὐαγγελιζόμενος (Ⅲ)

- vidit speculator hominem alterum currentem, et vociferans in culmine, ait : Apparet mihi alter homo currens solus. Dixitque rex : Et iste bonus est nuntius. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 26 ׃18 וירא הצפה איש אחר רץ ויקרא הצפה אל השער ויאמר הנה איש רץ לבדו ויאמר המלך גם זה מבשר ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 27

And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.

- La sentinelle dit: La manière de courir du premier me paraît celle d'Achimaats, fils de Tsadok. Et le roi dit: C'est un homme de bien, et il apporte de bonnes nouvelles. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ σκοπός ἐγὼ ὁρω̃ τὸν δρόμον του̃ πρώτου ὡς δρόμον Αχιμαας υἱου̃ Σαδωκ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεύς ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς οὑ̃τος καί γε εἰς εὐαγγελίαν ἀγαθὴν ἐλεύσεται (Ⅲ)

- Speculator autem : Contemplor, ait, cursum prioris, quasi cursum Achimaas filii Sadoc. Et ait rex : Vir bonus est, et nuntium portans bonum venit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 27 ׃18 ויאמר הצפה אני ראה את מרוצת הראשון כמרצת אחימעץ בן צדוק ויאמר המלך איש טוב זה ואל בשורה טובה יבוא ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 28

And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.

- Achimaats cria, et il dit au roi: Tout va bien! Il se prosterna devant le roi la face contre terre, et dit: Béni soit l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui a livré les hommes qui levaient la main contre le roi mon seigneur! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐβόησεν Αχιμαας καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα εἰρήνη καὶ προσεκύνησεν τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν καὶ εἰ̃πεν εὐλογητὸς κύριος ὁ θεός σου ὃς ἀπέκλεισεν τοὺς ἄνδρας τοὺς μισου̃ντας τὴν χει̃ρα αὐτω̃ν ἐν τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ (Ⅲ)

- Clamans autem Achimaas, dixit ad regem : Salve rex. Et adorans regem coram eo pronus in terram, ait : Benedictus Dominus Deus tuus, qui conclusit homines qui levaverunt manus suas contra dominum meum regem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 28 ׃18 ויקרא אחימעץ ויאמר אל המלך שלום וישתחו למלך לאפיו ארצה סויאמר ברוך יהוה אלהיך אשר סגר את האנשים אשר נשאו את ידם באדני המלך ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 29

And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.

- Le roi dit: Le jeune Absalom est-il en bonne santé? Achimaats répondit: J'ai aperçu un grand tumulte au moment où Joab envoya le serviteur du roi et moi ton serviteur; mais je ne sais ce que c'était. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεύς εἰρήνη τω̨̃ παιδαρίω̨ τω̨̃ Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ εἰ̃πεν Αχιμαας εἰ̃δον τὸ πλη̃θος τὸ μέγα του̃ ἀποστει̃λαι τὸν δου̃λον του̃ βασιλέως Ιωαβ καὶ τὸν δου̃λόν σου καὶ οὐκ ἔγνων τί ἐκει̃ (Ⅲ)

- Et ait rex : Estne pax puero Absalom ? Dixitque Achimaas : Vidi tumultum magnum cum mitteret Joab servus tuus, o rex, me servum tuum : nescio aliud. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 29 ׃18 ויאמר המלך שלום לנער לאבשלום ויאמר אחימעץ ראיתי ההמון הגדול לשלח את עבד המלך יואב ואת עבדך ולא ידעתי מה ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 30

And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.

- Et le roi dit: Mets-toi là de côté. Et Achimaats se tint de côté. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεύς ἐπίστρεψον στηλώθητι ὡ̃δε καὶ ἐπεστράφη καὶ ἔστη (Ⅲ)

- Ad quem rex : Transi, ait, et sta hic. Cumque ille transisset, et staret, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 30 ׃18 ויאמר המלך סב התיצב כה ויסב ויעמד ‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 31

And, behold, Cushy came; and Cushy said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.

- Aussitôt arriva Cuschi. Et il dit: Que le roi mon seigneur apprenne la bonne nouvelle! Aujourd'hui l'Éternel t'a rendu justice en te délivrant de la main de tous ceux qui s'élevaient contre toi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ Χουσι παρεγένετο καὶ εἰ̃πεν τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ εὐαγγελισθήτω ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεύς ὅτι ἔκρινέν σοι κύριος σήμερον ἐκ χειρὸς πάντων τω̃ν ἐπεγειρομένων ἐπὶ σέ (Ⅲ)

- apparuit Chusi : et veniens ait : Bonum apporto nuntium, domine mi rex : judicavit enim pro te Dominus hodie de manu omnium qui surrexerunt contra te.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 31 ׃18 והנה הכושי בא ויאמר הכושי יתבשר אדני המלך כי שפטך יהוה היום מיד כל הקמים עליך ס‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 32

And the king said unto Cushy, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushy answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.

- Le roi dit à Cuschi: Le jeune homme Absalom est-il en bonne santé? Cuschi répondit: Qu'ils soient comme ce jeune homme, les ennemis du roi mon seigneur et tous ceux qui s'élèvent contre toi pour te faire du mal! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς τὸν Χουσι εἰ εἰρήνη τω̨̃ παιδαρίω̨ τω̨̃ Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ Χουσι γένοιντο ὡς τὸ παιδάριον οἱ ἐχθροὶ του̃ κυρίου μου του̃ βασιλέως καὶ πάντες ὅσοι ἐπανέστησαν ἐπ' αὐτὸν εἰς κακά (Ⅲ)

- Dixit autem rex ad Chusi : Estne pax puero Absalom ? Cui respondens Chusi : Fiant, inquit, sicut puer, inimici domini mei regis, et universi qui consurgunt adversus eum in malum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 32 ׃18 ויאמר המלך אל הכושי השלום לנער לאבשלום ויאמר הכושי יהיו כנער איבי אדני המלך וכל אשר קמו עליך לרעה ס‬ (Ⅴ)

18. 33

And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

- Alors le roi, saisi d'émotion, monta dans la chambre au-dessus de la porte et pleura. Il disait en marchant: Mon fils Absalom! mon fils, mon fils Absalom! Que ne suis-je mort à ta place! Absalom, mon fils, mon fils! (Ⅱ)

- Contristatus itaque rex, ascendit cœnaculum portæ, et flevit. Et sic loquebatur, vadens : Fili mi Absalom, Absalom fili mi : quis mihi tribuat ut ego moriar pro te, Absalom fili mi, fili mi Absalom ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃19 וירגז המלך ויעל על עלית השער ויבך וכה אמר בלכתו בני אבשלום בני בני אבשלום מי יתן מותי אני תחתיך אבשלום בני בני ‬ (Ⅴ)
