23. 1

Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

- Voici les dernières paroles de David. Parole de David, fils d'Isaï, Parole de l'homme haut placé, De l'oint du Dieu de Jacob, Du chantre agréable d'Israël. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οὑ̃τοι οἱ λόγοι Δαυιδ οἱ ἔσχατοι πιστὸς Δαυιδ υἱὸς Ιεσσαι καὶ πιστὸς ἀνήρ ὃν ἀνέστησεν κύριος ἐπὶ χριστὸν θεου̃ Ιακωβ καὶ εὐπρεπει̃ς ψαλμοὶ Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- Hæc autem sunt verba David novissima. Dixit David filius Isai : [Dixit vir, cui constitutum est de christo Dei Jacob,/ egregius psaltes Israël :/ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃23 ואלה דברי דוד האחרנים נאם דוד בן ישי ונאם הגבר הקם על משיח אלהי יעקב ונעים זמרות ישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 2

The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

- L'esprit de l'Éternel parle par moi, Et sa parole est sur ma langue. (Ⅱ)

- πνευ̃μα κυρίου ἐλάλησεν ἐν ἐμοί καὶ ὁ λόγος αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ γλώσσης μου (Ⅲ)

- Spiritus Domini locutus est per me,/ et sermo ejus per linguam meam./ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃23 רוח יהוה דבר בי ומלתו על לשוני ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 3

The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

- Le Dieu d'Israël a parlé, Le rocher d'Israël m'a dit: Celui qui règne parmi les hommes avec justice, Celui qui règne dans la crainte de Dieu, (Ⅱ)

- λέγει ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ἐμοὶ ἐλάλησεν φύλαξ Ισραηλ παραβολὴν εἰπόν ἐν ἀνθρώπω̨ πω̃ς κραταιώσητε φόβον θεου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Dixit Deus Israël mihi,/ locutus est fortis Israël :/ Dominator hominum,/ justus dominator in timore Dei,/ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃23 אמר אלהי ישראל לי דבר צור ישראל מושל באדם צדיק מושל יראת אלהים ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 4

And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

- Est pareil à la lumière du matin, quand le soleil brille Et que la matinée est sans nuages; Ses rayons après la pluie font sortir de terre la verdure. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐν θεω̨̃ φωτὶ πρωίας ἀνατείλαι ἥλιος τὸ πρωὶ οὐ παρη̃λθεν ἐκ φέγγους καὶ ὡς ἐξ ὑετου̃ χλόης ἀπὸ γη̃ς (Ⅲ)

- sicut lux auroræ, oriente sole,/ mane absque nubibus rutilat :/ et sicut pluviis germinat herba de terra./ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃23 וכאור בקר יזרח שמש בקר לא עבות מנגה ממטר דשא מארץ ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 5

Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

- N'en est-il pas ainsi de ma maison devant Dieu, Puisqu'il a fait avec moi une alliance éternelle, En tous points bien réglée et offrant pleine sécurité? Ne fera-t-il pas germer tout mon salut et tous mes désirs? (Ⅱ)

- οὐ γὰρ οὕτως ὁ οἰ̃κός μου μετὰ ἰσχυρου̃ διαθήκην γὰρ αἰώνιον ἔθετό μοι ἑτοίμην ἐν παντὶ καιρω̨̃ πεφυλαγμένην ὅτι πα̃σα σωτηρία μου καὶ πα̃ν θέλημα ὅτι οὐ μὴ βλαστήση̨ ὁ παράνομος (Ⅲ)

- Nec tanta est domus mea apud Deum,/ ut pactum æternum iniret mecum,/ firmum in omnibus atque munitum./ Cuncta enim salus mea, et omnis voluntas,/ nec est quidquam ex ea quod non germinet./ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃23 כי לא כן ביתי עם אל כי ברית עולם שם לי ערוכה בכל ושמרה כי כל ישעי וכל חפץ כי לא יצמיח ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 6

But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

- Mais les méchants sont tous comme des épines que l'on rejette, Et que l'on ne prend pas avec la main; (Ⅱ)

- ὥσπερ ἄκανθα ἐξωσμένη πάντες αὐτοί ὅτι οὐ χειρὶ λημφθήσονται (Ⅲ)

- Prævaricatores autem quasi spinæ evellentur universi,/ quæ non tolluntur manibus./ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃23 ובליעל כקוץ מנד כלהם כי לא ביד יקחו ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 7

But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

- Celui qui les touche s'arme d'un fer ou du bois d'une lance, Et on les brûle au feu sur place. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνὴρ οὐ κοπιάσει ἐν αὐτοι̃ς καὶ πλη̃ρες σιδήρου καὶ ξύλον δόρατος καὶ ἐν πυρὶ καύσει καυθήσονται αἰσχύνη̨ αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Et si quis tangere voluerit eas,/ armabitur ferro et ligno lanceato,/ igneque succensæ comburentur usque ad nihilum.]\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃23 ואיש יגע בהם ימלא ברזל ועץ חנית ובאש שרוף ישרפו בשבת פ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 8

These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.

- Voici les noms des vaillants hommes qui étaient au service de David. Joscheb Basschébeth, le Tachkemonite, l'un des principaux officiers. Il brandit sa lance sur huit cents hommes, qu'il fit périr en une seule fois. (Ⅱ)

- ταυ̃τα τὰ ὀνόματα τω̃ν δυνατω̃ν Δαυιδ Ιεβοσθε ὁ Χαναναι̃ος ἄρχων του̃ τρίτου ἐστίν Αδινων ὁ Ασωναι̃ος οὑ̃τος ἐσπάσατο τὴν ῥομφαίαν αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ ὀκτακοσίους τραυματίας εἰς ἅπαξ (Ⅲ)

- Hæc nomina fortium David. Sedens in cathedra sapientissimus princeps inter tres, ipse est quasi tenerrimus ligni vermiculus, qui octingentos interfecit impetu uno. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃23 אלה שמות הגברים אשר לדוד ישב בשבת תחכמני ראש השלשי הוא עדינו *העצנו **העצני על שמנה מאות חלל בפעם *אחד **אחת ס‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 9

And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:

- Après lui, Éléazar, fils de Dodo, fils d'Achochi. Il était l'un des trois guerriers qui affrontèrent avec David les Philistins rassemblés pour combattre, tandis que les hommes d'Israël se retiraient sur les hauteurs. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ μετ' αὐτὸν Ελεαζαρ υἱὸς πατραδέλφου αὐτου̃ υἱὸς Σουσίτου ἐν τοι̃ς τρισὶν δυνατοι̃ς οὑ̃τος ἠ̃ν μετὰ Δαυιδ ἐν Σερραν καὶ ἐν τω̨̃ ὀνειδίσαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοι̃ς ἀλλοφύλοις συνήχθησαν ἐκει̃ εἰς πόλεμον καὶ ἀνέβησαν ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- Post hunc, Eleazar filius patrui ejus Ahohites inter tres fortes, qui erant cum David quando exprobraverunt Philisthiim, et congregati sunt illuc in prælium. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃23 *ואחרו **ואחריו אלעזר בן *דדי **דדו בן אחחי בשלשה *גברים **הגברים עם דוד בחרפם בפלשתים נאספו שם למלחמה ויעלו איש ישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 10

He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

- Il se leva, et frappa les Philistins jusqu'à ce que sa main fût lasse et qu'elle restât attachée à son épée. L'Éternel opéra une grande délivrance ce jour-là. Le peuple revint après Éléazar, seulement pour prendre les dépouilles. (Ⅱ)

- αὐτὸς ἀνέστη καὶ ἐπάταξεν ἐν τοι̃ς ἀλλοφύλοις ἕως οὑ̃ ἐκοπίασεν ἡ χεὶρ αὐτου̃ καὶ προσεκολλήθη ἡ χεὶρ αὐτου̃ πρὸς τὴν μάχαιραν καὶ ἐποίησεν κύριος σωτηρίαν μεγάλην ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐκείνη̨ καὶ ὁ λαὸς ἐκάθητο ὀπίσω αὐτου̃ πλὴν ἐκδιδύσκειν (Ⅲ)

- Cumque ascendissent viri Israël, ipse stetit et percussit Philisthæos donec deficeret manus ejus, et obrigesceret cum gladio : fecitque Dominus salutem magnam in die illa : et populus qui fugerat, reversus est ad cæsorum spolia detrahenda. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃23 הוא קם ויך בפלשתים עד כי יגעה ידו ותדבק ידו אל החרב ויעש יהוה תשועה גדולה ביום ההוא והעם ישבו אחריו אך לפשט ס‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 11

And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentils: and the people fled from the Philistines.

- Après lui, Schamma, fils d'Agué, d'Harar. Les Philistins s'étaient rassemblés à Léchi. Il y avait là une pièce de terre remplie de lentilles; et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ μετ' αὐτὸν Σαμαια υἱὸς Ασα ὁ Αρουχαι̃ος καὶ συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι εἰς Θηρία καὶ ἠ̃ν ἐκει̃ μερὶς του̃ ἀγρου̃ πλήρης φακου̃ καὶ ὁ λαὸς ἔφυγεν ἐκ προσώπου ἀλλοφύλων (Ⅲ)

- Et post hunc, Semma filius Age de Arari. Et congregati sunt Philisthiim in statione : erat quippe ibi ager lente plenus. Cumque fugisset populus a facie Philisthiim, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃23 ואחריו שמא בן אגא הררי ויאספו פלשתים לחיה ותהי שם חלקת השדה מלאה עדשים והעם נס מפני פלשתים ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 12

But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

- Schamma se plaça au milieu du champ, le protégea, et battit les Philistins. Et l'Éternel opéra une grande délivrance. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐστηλώθη ἐν μέσω̨ τη̃ς μερίδος καὶ ἐξείλατο αὐτὴν καὶ ἐπάταξεν τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους καὶ ἐποίησεν κύριος σωτηρίαν μεγάλην (Ⅲ)

- stetit ille in medio agri, et tuitus est eum, percussitque Philisthæos : et fecit Dominus salutem magnam.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃23 ויתיצב בתוך החלקה ויצילה ויך את פלשתים ויעש יהוה תשועה גדולה ס‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 13

And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

- Trois des trente chefs descendirent au temps de la moisson et vinrent auprès de David, dans la caverne d'Adullam, lorsqu'une troupe de Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Rephaïm. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ κατέβησαν τρει̃ς ἀπὸ τω̃ν τριάκοντα καὶ ἠ̃λθον εἰς Κασων πρὸς Δαυιδ εἰς τὸ σπήλαιον Οδολλαμ καὶ τάγμα τω̃ν ἀλλοφύλων παρενέβαλον ἐν τη̨̃ κοιλάδι Ραφαϊμ (Ⅲ)

- Necnon et ante descenderant tres qui erant principes inter triginta, et venerant tempore messis ad David in speluncam Odollam : castra autem Philisthinorum erant posita in Valle gigantum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃23 וירדו *שלשים **שלשה מהשלשים ראש ויבאו אל קציר אל דוד אל מערת עדלם וחית פלשתים חנה בעמק רפאים ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 14

And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

- David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléhem. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Δαυιδ τότε ἐν τη̨̃ περιοχη̨̃ καὶ τὸ ὑπόστημα τω̃ν ἀλλοφύλων τότε ἐν Βαιθλεεμ (Ⅲ)

- Et David erat in præsidio : porro statio Philisthinorum tunc erat in Bethlehem. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃23 ודוד אז במצודה ומצב פלשתים אז בית לחם ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 15

And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

- David eut un désir, et il dit: Qui me fera boire de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléhem? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπεθύμησεν Δαυιδ καὶ εἰ̃πεν τίς ποτιει̃ με ὕδωρ ἐκ του̃ λάκκου του̃ ἐν Βαιθλεεμ του̃ ἐν τη̨̃ πύλη̨ τὸ δὲ σύστημα τω̃ν ἀλλοφύλων τότε ἐν Βαιθλεεμ (Ⅲ)

- Desideravit ergo David, et ait : O si quis mihi daret potum aquæ de cisterna quæ est in Bethlehem juxta portam ! (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃23 ויתאוה דוד ויאמר מי ישקני מים מבאר בית לחם אשר בשער ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 16

And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

- Alors les trois vaillants hommes passèrent au travers du camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléhem. Ils l'apportèrent et la présentèrent à David; mais il ne voulut pas la boire, et il la répandit devant l'Éternel. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ διέρρηξαν οἱ τρει̃ς δυνατοὶ ἐν τη̨̃ παρεμβολη̨̃ τω̃ν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ὑδρεύσαντο ὕδωρ ἐκ του̃ λάκκου του̃ ἐν Βαιθλεεμ του̃ ἐν τη̨̃ πύλη̨ καὶ ἔλαβαν καὶ παρεγένοντο πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν πιει̃ν αὐτὸ καὶ ἔσπεισεν αὐτὸ τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ (Ⅲ)

- Irruperunt ergo tres fortes castra Philisthinorum, et hauserunt aquam de cisterna Bethlehem, quæ erat juxta portam, et attulerunt ad David : at ille noluit bibere, sed libavit eam Domino, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃23 ויבקעו שלשת הגברים במחנה פלשתים וישאבו מים מבאר בית לחם אשר בשער וישאו ויבאו אל דוד ולא אבה לשתותם ויסך אתם ליהוה ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 17

And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

- Il dit: Loin de moi, ô Éternel, la pensée de faire cela! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie? Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois vaillants hommes. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἵλεώς μοι κύριε του̃ ποιη̃σαι του̃το εἰ αἱ̃μα τω̃ν ἀνδρω̃ν τω̃ν πορευθέντων ἐν ται̃ς ψυχαι̃ς αὐτω̃ν πίομαι καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν πιει̃ν αὐτό ταυ̃τα ἐποίησαν οἱ τρει̃ς δυνατοί (Ⅲ)

- dicens : Propitius sit mihi Dominus, ne faciam hoc : num sanguinem hominum istorum qui profecti sunt, et animarum periculum bibam ? Noluit ergo bibere. Hæc fecerunt tres robustissimi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃23 ויאמר חלילה לי יהוה מעשתי זאת הדם האנשים ההלכים בנפשותם ולא אבה לשתותם אלה עשו שלשת הגברים ס‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 18

And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.

- Abischaï, frère de Joab, fils de Tseruja, était le chef des trois. Il brandit sa lance sur trois cents hommes, et les tua; et il eut du renom parmi les trois. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Αβεσσα ἀδελφὸς Ιωαβ υἱὸς Σαρουιας αὐτὸς ἄρχων ἐν τοι̃ς τρισίν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐξήγειρεν τὸ δόρυ αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ τριακοσίους τραυματίας καὶ αὐτω̨̃ ὄνομα ἐν τοι̃ς τρισίν (Ⅲ)

- Abisai quoque frater Joab filius Sarviæ, princeps erat de tribus : ipse est qui levavit hastam suam contra trecentos, quos interfecit : nominatus in tribus, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃23 ואבישי אחי יואב בן צרויה הוא ראש *השלשי **השלשה והוא עורר את חניתו על שלש מאות חלל ולו שם בשלשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 19

Was he not most honorable of three? therefore he was their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first three.

- Il était le plus considéré des trois, et il fut leur chef; mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers. (Ⅱ)

- ἐκ τω̃ν τριω̃ν ἐκείνων ἔνδοξος καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτοι̃ς εἰς ἄρχοντα καὶ ἕως τω̃ν τριω̃ν οὐκ ἠ̃λθεν (Ⅲ)

- et inter tres nobilior, eratque eorum princeps, sed usque ad tres primos non pervenerat. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃23 מן השלשה הכי נכבד ויהי להם לשר ועד השלשה לא בא ס‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 20

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:

- Benaja, fils de Jehojada, fils d'un homme de Kabtseel, rempli de valeur et célèbre par ses exploits. Il frappa les deux lions de Moab. Il descendit au milieu d'une citerne, où il frappa un lion, un jour de neige. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Βαναιας υἱὸς Ιωδαε ἀνὴρ αὐτὸς πολλοστὸς ἔργοις ἀπὸ Καβεσεηλ καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπάταξεν τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς Αριηλ του̃ Μωαβ καὶ αὐτὸς κατέβη καὶ ἐπάταξε τὸν λέοντα ἐν μέσω̨ του̃ λάκκου ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̃ς χιόνος (Ⅲ)

- Et Banaias filius Jojadæ viri fortissimi, magnorum operum, de Cabseel. Ipse percussit duos leones Moab, et ipse descendit, et percussit leonem in media cisterna in diebus nivis. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃23 ובניהו בן יהוידע בן איש *חי **חיל רב פעלים מקבצאל הוא הכה את שני אראל מואב והוא ירד והכה את *האריה **הארי בתוך הבאר ביום השלג ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 21

And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

- Il frappa un Égyptien d'un aspect formidable et ayant une lance à la main; il descendit contre lui avec un bâton, arracha la lance de la main de l'Égyptien, et s'en servit pour le tuer. (Ⅱ)

- αὐτὸς ἐπάταξεν τὸν ἄνδρα τὸν Αἰγύπτιον ἄνδρα ὁρατόν ἐν δὲ τη̨̃ χειρὶ του̃ Αἰγυπτίου δόρυ ὡς ξύλον διαβάθρας καὶ κατέβη πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐν ῥάβδω̨ καὶ ἥρπασεν τὸ δόρυ ἐκ τη̃ς χειρὸς του̃ Αἰγυπτίου καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτὸν ἐν τω̨̃ δόρατι αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Ipse quoque interfecit virum ægyptium, virum dignum spectaculo, habentem in manu hastam : itaque cum descendisset ad eum in virga, vi extorsit hastam de manu Ægyptii, et interfecit eum hasta sua. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃23 והוא הכה את איש מצרי *אשר **איש מראה וביד המצרי חנית וירד אליו בשבט ויגזל את החנית מיד המצרי ויהרגהו בחניתו ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 22

These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.

- Voilà ce que fit Benaja, fils de Jehojada; et il eut du renom parmi les trois vaillants hommes. (Ⅱ)

- ταυ̃τα ἐποίησεν Βαναιας υἱὸς Ιωδαε καὶ αὐτω̨̃ ὄνομα ἐν τοι̃ς τρισὶν τοι̃ς δυνατοι̃ς (Ⅲ)

- Hæc fecit Banaias filius Jojadæ. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃23 אלה עשה בניהו בן יהוידע ולו שם בשלשה הגברים ‬ (Ⅴ)

23. 23

He was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.

- Il était le plus considéré des trente; mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers. David l'admit dans son conseil secret. (Ⅱ)
