3. 1

Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

- La guerre dura longtemps entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David. David devenait de plus en plus fort, et la maison de Saül allait en s'affaiblissant. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ πόλεμος ἐπὶ πολὺ ἀνὰ μέσον του̃ οἴκου Σαουλ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον του̃ οἴκου Δαυιδ καὶ ὁ οἰ̃κος Δαυιδ ἐπορεύετο καὶ ἐκραταιου̃το καὶ ὁ οἰ̃κος Σαουλ ἐπορεύετο καὶ ἠσθένει (Ⅲ)

- Facta est ergo longa concertatio inter domum Saul et inter domum David : David proficiscens, et semper seipso robustior, domus autem Saul decrescens quotidie. (Ⅳ)

3. 2

And unto David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;

- Il naquit à David des fils à Hébron. Son premier-né fut Amnon, d'Achinoam de Jizreel; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐτέχθησαν τω̨̃ Δαυιδ υἱοὶ ἐν Χεβρων καὶ ἠ̃ν ὁ πρωτότοκος αὐτου̃ Αμνων τη̃ς Αχινοομ τη̃ς Ιεζραηλίτιδος (Ⅲ)

- Natique sunt filii David in Hebron : fuitque primogenitus ejus Amnon, de Achinoam Jezraëlitide. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃3 *וילדו **ויולדו‪[a]‬ לדוד בנים בחברון ויהי בכורו אמנון לאחינעם היזרעאלת ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 3

And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

- le second, Kileab, d'Abigaïl de Carmel, femme de Nabal; le troisième, Absalom, fils de Maaca, fille de Talmaï, roi de Gueschur; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὁ δεύτερος αὐτου̃ Δαλουια τη̃ς Αβιγαιας τη̃ς Καρμηλίας καὶ ὁ τρίτος Αβεσσαλωμ υἱὸς Μααχα θυγατρὸς Θολμι βασιλέως Γεσιρ (Ⅲ)

- Et post eum Cheleab, de Abigail uxore Nabal Carmeli : porro tertius Absalom, filius Maacha filiæ Tholmai regis Gessur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃3 ומשנהו כלאב *לאביגל **לאביגיל‪[c]‬ אשת נבל הכרמלי והשלשי אבשלום בן מעכה בת תלמי מלך גשור ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 4

And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;

- le quatrième, Adonija, fils de Haggith; le cinquième, Schephathia, fils d'Abithal; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὁ τέταρτος Ορνια υἱὸς Φεγγιθ καὶ ὁ πέμπτος Σαβατια τη̃ς Αβιταλ (Ⅲ)

- Quartus autem Adonias, filius Haggith : et quintus Saphathia, filius Abital. (Ⅳ)

And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.

- et le sixième, Jithream, d'Égla, femme de David. Ce sont là ceux qui naquirent à David à Hébron. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὁ ἕκτος Ιεθερααμ τη̃ς Αιγλα γυναικὸς Δαυιδ οὑ̃τοι ἐτέχθησαν τω̨̃ Δαυιδ ἐν Χεβρων (Ⅲ)

- Sextus quoque Jethraam, de Egla uxore David : hi nati sunt David in Hebron. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃3 והששי יתרעם לעגלה אשת דוד אלה ילדו לדוד בחברון פ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 6

And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.

- Pendant la guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David, Abner tint ferme pour la maison de Saül. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τω̨̃ εἰ̃ναι τὸν πόλεμον ἀνὰ μέσον του̃ οἴκου Σαουλ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον του̃ οἴκου Δαυιδ καὶ Αβεννηρ ἠ̃ν κρατω̃ν του̃ οἰ̃κου Σαουλ (Ⅲ)

- Cum ergo esset prælium inter domum Saul et domum David, Abner filius Ner regebat domum Saul.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃3 ויהי בהיות המלחמה בין בית שאול ובין בית דוד ואבנר היה מתחזק בבית שאול ‬ (Ⅴ)

And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ishbosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father's concubine?

- Or Saül avait eu une concubine, nommée Ritspa, fille d'Ajja. Et Isch Boscheth dit à Abner: Pourquoi es-tu venu vers la concubine de mon père? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ τω̨̃ Σαουλ παλλακὴ Ρεσφα θυγάτηρ Ιαλ καὶ εἰ̃πεν Μεμφιβοσθε υἱὸς Σαουλ πρὸς Αβεννηρ τί ὅτι εἰση̃λθες πρὸς τὴν παλλακὴν του̃ πατρός μου (Ⅲ)

- Fuerat autem Sauli concubina nomine Respha, filia Aja. Dixitque Isboseth ad Abner : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃3 ולשאול פלגש ושמה רצפה בת איה ויאמר אל אבנר מדוע באתה אל פילגש אבי ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 8

Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ishbosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which against Judah do show kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?

- Abner fut très irrité des paroles d'Isch Boscheth, et il répondit: Suis-je une tête de chien, qui tienne pour Juda? Je fais aujourd'hui preuve de bienveillance envers la maison de Saül, ton père, envers ses frères et ses amis, je ne t'ai pas livré entre les mains de David, et c'est aujourd'hui que tu me reproches une faute avec cette femme? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐθυμώθη σφόδρα Αβεννηρ περὶ του̃ λόγου Μεμφιβοσθε καὶ εἰ̃πεν Αβεννηρ πρὸς αὐτόν μὴ κεφαλὴ κυνὸς ἐγώ εἰμι ἐποίησα ἔλεος σήμερον μετὰ του̃ οἴκου Σαουλ του̃ πατρός σου καὶ περὶ ἀδελφω̃ν καὶ γνωρίμων καὶ οὐκ ηὐτομόλησα εἰς τὸν οἰ̃κον Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπιζητει̃ς ἐπ' ἐμὲ ὑπὲρ ἀδικίας γυναικὸς σήμερον (Ⅲ)

- Quare ingressus es ad concubinam patris mei ? Qui iratus nimis propter verba Isboseth, ait : Numquid caput canis ego sum adversum Judam hodie, qui fecerim misericordiam super domum Saul patris tui, et super fratres et proximos ejus, et non tradidi te in manus David, et tu requisisti in me quod argueres pro muliere hodie ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃3 ויחר לאבנר מאד על דברי איש בשת ויאמר הראש כלב אנכי אשר ליהודה היום אעשה חסד עם בית שאול אביך אל אחיו ואל מרעהו ולא המציתך ביד דוד ותפקד עלי עון האשה היום ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 9

So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;

- Que Dieu traite Abner dans toute sa rigueur, si je n'agis pas avec David selon ce que l'Éternel a juré à David, (Ⅱ)

- τάδε ποιήσαι ὁ θεὸς τω̨̃ Αβεννηρ καὶ τάδε προσθείη αὐτω̨̃ ὅτι καθὼς ὤμοσεν κύριος τω̨̃ Δαυιδ ὅτι οὕτως ποιήσω αὐτω̨̃ ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ταύτη̨ (Ⅲ)

- Hæc faciat Deus Abner, et hæc addat ei, nisi quomodo juravit Dominus David, sic faciam cum eo, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃3 כה יעשה אלהים לאבנר וכה יסיף לו כי כאשר נשבע יהוה לדוד כי כן אעשה לו ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 10

To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba.

- en disant qu'il ferait passer la royauté de la maison de Saül dans la sienne, et qu'il établirait le trône de David sur Israël et sur Juda depuis Dan jusqu'à Beer Schéba. (Ⅱ)

- περιελει̃ν τὴν βασιλείαν ἀπὸ του̃ οἴκου Σαουλ καὶ του̃ ἀναστη̃σαι τὸν θρόνον Δαυιδ ἐπὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν Ιουδαν ἀπὸ Δαν ἕως Βηρσαβεε (Ⅲ)

- ut transferatur regnum de domo Saul, et elevetur thronus David super Israël et super Judam, a Dan usque Bersabee. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃3 להעביר הממלכה מבית שאול ולהקים את כסא דוד על ישראל ועל יהודה מדן ועד באר שבע ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 11

And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.

- Isch Boscheth n'osa pas répliquer un seul mot à Abner, parce qu'il le craignait. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνάσθη ἔτι Μεμφιβοσθε ἀποκριθη̃ναι τω̨̃ Αβεννηρ ῥη̃μα ἀπὸ του̃ φοβει̃σθαι αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- Et non potuit respondere ei quidquam, quia metuebat illum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃3 ולא יכל עוד להשיב את אבנר דבר מיראתו אתו ס‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 12

And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.

- Abner envoya des messagers à David pour lui dire de sa part: A qui est le pays? Fais alliance avec moi, et voici, ma main t'aidera pour tourner vers toi tout Israël. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Αβεννηρ ἀγγέλους πρὸς Δαυιδ εἰς Θαιλαμ οὑ̃ ἠ̃ν παραχρη̃μα λέγων διάθου διαθήκην σου μετ' ἐμου̃ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ χείρ μου μετὰ σου̃ του̃ ἐπιστρέψαι πρὸς σὲ πάντα τὸν οἰ̃κον Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- Misit ergo Abner nuntios ad David pro se dicentes : Cujus est terra ? et ut loquerentur : Fac mecum amicitias, et erit manus mea tecum, et reducam ad te universum Israël. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃3 וישלח אבנר מלאכים אל דוד *תחתו **תחתיו לאמר למי ארץ לאמר כרתה בריתך אתי והנה ידי עמך להסב אליך את כל ישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 13

And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul's daughter, when thou comest to see my face.

- Il répondit: Bien! je ferai alliance avec toi; mais je te demande une chose, c'est que tu ne voies point ma face, à moins que tu n'amènes d'abord Mical, fille de Saül, en venant auprès de moi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ ἐγὼ καλω̃ς διαθήσομαι πρὸς σὲ διαθήκην πλὴν λόγον ἕνα ἐγὼ αἰτου̃μαι παρὰ σου̃ λέγων οὐκ ὄψει τὸ πρόσωπόν μου ἐὰν μὴ ἀγάγη̨ς τὴν Μελχολ θυγατέρα Σαουλ παραγινομένου σου ἰδει̃ν τὸ πρόσωπόν μου (Ⅲ)

- Qui ait : Optime : ego faciam tecum amicitias : sed unam rem peto a te, dicens : Non videbis faciem meam antequam adduxeris Michol filiam Saul : et sic venies, et videbis me. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃3 ויאמר טוב אני אכרת אתך ברית אך דבר אחד אנכי שאל מאתך לאמר לא תראה את פני כי אם לפני הביאך את מיכל בת שאול בבאך לראות את פני ס‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 14

And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.

- Et David envoya des messagers à Isch Boscheth, fils de Saül, pour lui dire: Donne-moi ma femme Mical, que j'ai fiancée pour cent prépuces de Philistins. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Μεμφιβοσθε υἱὸν Σαουλ ἀγγέλους λέγων ἀπόδος μοι τὴν γυναι̃κά μου τὴν Μελχολ ἣν ἔλαβον ἐν ἑκατὸν ἀκροβυστίαις ἀλλοφύλων (Ⅲ)

- Misit autem David nuntios ad Isboseth filium Saul, dicens : Redde uxorem meam Michol, quam despondi mihi centum præputiis Philisthiim. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃3 וישלח דוד מלאכים אל איש בשת בן שאול לאמר תנה את אשתי את מיכל אשר ארשתי לי במאה ערלות פלשתים ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 15

And Ishbosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.

- Isch Boscheth la fit prendre chez son mari Palthiel, fils de Laïsch. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Μεμφιβοσθε καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτὴν παρὰ του̃ ἀνδρὸς αὐτη̃ς παρὰ Φαλτιηλ υἱου̃ Σελλης (Ⅲ)

- Misit ergo Isboseth, et tulit eam a viro suo Phaltiel filio Lais. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃3 וישלח איש בשת ויקחה מעם איש מעם פלטיאל בן *לוש **ליש ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 16

And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.

- Et son mari la suivit en pleurant jusqu'à Bachurim. Alors Abner lui dit: Va, retourne-t'en! Et il s'en retourna. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπορεύετο ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτη̃ς μετ' αὐτη̃ς κλαίων ὀπίσω αὐτη̃ς ἕως Βαρακιμ καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Αβεννηρ πορεύου ἀνάστρεφε καὶ ἀνέστρεψεν (Ⅲ)

- Sequebaturque eam vir suus, plorans usque Bahurim : et dixit ad eum Abner : Vade, et revertere. Qui reversus est. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃3 וילך אתה אישה הלוך ובכה אחריה עד בחרים ויאמר אליו אבנר לך שוב וישב ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 17

And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you:

- Abner eut un entretien avec les anciens d'Israël, et leur dit: Vous désiriez autrefois d'avoir David pour roi; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Αβεννηρ πρὸς τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους Ισραηλ λέγων ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτην ἐζητει̃τε τὸν Δαυιδ βασιλεύειν ἐφ' ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Sermonem quoque intulit Abner ad seniores Israël, dicens : Tam heri quam nudiustertius quærebatis David ut regnaret super vos. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃3 ודבר אבנר היה עם זקני ישראל לאמר גם תמול גם שלשם הייתם מבקשים את דוד למלך עליכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 18

Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.

- établissez-le maintenant, car l'Éternel a dit de lui: C'est par David, mon serviteur, que je délivrerai mon peuple d'Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν ποιήσατε ὅτι κύριος ἐλάλησεν περὶ Δαυιδ λέγων ἐν χειρὶ του̃ δούλου μου Δαυιδ σώσω τὸν Ισραηλ ἐκ χειρὸς ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς πάντων τω̃ν ἐχθρω̃ν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Nunc ergo facite : quoniam Dominus locutus est ad David, dicens : In manu servi mei David salvabo populum meum Israël de manu Philisthiim, et omnium inimicorum ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃3 ועתה עשו כי יהוה אמר אל דוד לאמר ביד דוד עבדי הושיע את עמי ישראל מיד פלשתים ומיד כל איביהם ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 19

And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.

- Abner parla aussi à Benjamin, et il alla rapporter aux oreilles de David à Hébron ce qu'avaient résolu Israël et toute la maison de Benjamin. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐλάλησεν Αβεννηρ ἐν τοι̃ς ὠσὶν Βενιαμιν καὶ ἐπορεύθη Αβεννηρ του̃ λαλη̃σαι εἰς τὰ ὠ̃τα του̃ Δαυιδ εἰς Χεβρων πάντα ὅσα ἤρεσεν ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς Ισραηλ καὶ ἐν ὀφθαλμοι̃ς παντὸς οἴκου Βενιαμιν (Ⅲ)

- Locutus est autem Abner etiam ad Benjamin. Et abiit ut loqueretur ad David in Hebron omnia quæ placuerant Israëli et universo Benjamin. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃3 וידבר גם אבנר באזני בנימין וילך גם אבנר לדבר באזני דוד בחברון את כל אשר טוב בעיני ישראל ובעיני כל בית בנימן ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 20

So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.

- Il arriva auprès de David à Hébron, accompagné de vingt hommes; et David fit un festin à Abner et à ceux qui étaient avec lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθεν Αβεννηρ πρὸς Δαυιδ εἰς Χεβρων καὶ μετ' αὐτου̃ εἴκοσι ἄνδρες καὶ ἐποίησεν Δαυιδ τω̨̃ Αβεννηρ καὶ τοι̃ς ἀνδράσιν τοι̃ς μετ' αὐτου̃ πότον (Ⅲ)

- Venitque ad David in Hebron cum viginti viris : et fecit David Abner, et viris ejus qui venerant cum eo, convivium. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃3 ויבא אבנר אל דוד חברון ואתו עשרים אנשים ויעש דוד לאבנר ולאנשים אשר אתו משתה ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 21

And Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.

- Abner dit à David: Je me lèverai, et je partirai pour rassembler tout Israël vers mon seigneur le roi; ils feront alliance avec toi, et tu règneras entièrement selon ton désir. David renvoya Abner, qui s'en alla en paix. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Αβεννηρ πρὸς Δαυιδ ἀναστήσομαι δὴ καὶ πορεύσομαι καὶ συναθροίσω πρὸς κύριόν μου τὸν βασιλέα πάντα Ισραηλ καὶ διαθήσομαι μετὰ σου̃ διαθήκην καὶ βασιλεύσεις ἐπὶ πα̃σιν οἱ̃ς ἐπιθυμει̃ ἡ ψυχή σου καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ τὸν Αβεννηρ καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐν εἰρήνη̨ (Ⅲ)

- Et dixit Abner ad David : Surgam, ut congregem ad te dominum meum regem omnem Israël, et ineam tecum fœdus, et imperes omnibus, sicut desiderat anima tua. Cum ergo deduxisset David Abner, et ille isset in pace, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃3 ויאמר אבנר אל דוד אקומה ואלכה ואקבצה אל אדני המלך את כל ישראל ויכרתו אתך ברית ומלכת בכל אשר תאוה נפשך וישלח דוד את אבנר וילך בשלום ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 22

And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.

- Voici, Joab et les gens de David revinrent d'une excursion, et amenèrent avec eux un grand butin. Abner n'était plus auprès de David à Hébron, car David l'avait renvoyé, et il s'en était allé en paix. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἰδοὺ οἱ παι̃δες Δαυιδ καὶ Ιωαβ παρεγίνοντο ἐκ τη̃ς ἐξοδίας καὶ σκυ̃λα πολλὰ ἔφερον μετ' αὐτω̃ν καὶ Αβεννηρ οὐκ ἠ̃ν μετὰ Δαυιδ εἰς Χεβρων ὅτι ἀπεστάλκει αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπεληλύθει ἐν εἰρήνη̨ (Ⅲ)

- statim pueri David et Joab venerunt, cæsis latronibus, cum præda magna nimis : Abner autem non erat cum David in Hebron, quia jam dimiserat eum, et profectus fuerat in pace. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃3 והנה עבדי דוד ויואב בא מהגדוד ושלל רב עמם הביאו ואבנר איננו עם דוד בחברון כי שלחו וילך בשלום ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 23

When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace.

- Lorsque Joab et toute sa troupe arrivèrent, on fit à Joab ce rapport: Abner, fils de Ner, est venu auprès du roi, qui l'a renvoyé, et il s'en est allé en paix. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ Ιωαβ καὶ πα̃σα ἡ στρατιὰ αὐτου̃ ἤχθησαν καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τω̨̃ Ιωαβ λέγοντες ἥκει Αβεννηρ υἱὸς Νηρ πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέσταλκεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπη̃λθεν ἐν εἰρήνη̨ (Ⅲ)

- Et Joab, et omnis exercitus qui erat cum eo, postea venerunt : nuntiatum est itaque Joab a narrantibus : Venit Abner filius Ner ad regem, et dimisit eum, et abiit in pace.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃3 ויואב וכל הצבא אשר אתו באו ויגדו ליואב לאמר בא אבנר בן נר אל המלך וישלחהו וילך בשלום ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 24

Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?

- Joab se rendit chez le roi, et dit: Qu'as-tu fait? Voici, Abner est venu vers toi; pourquoi l'as-tu renvoyé et laissé partir? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰση̃λθεν Ιωαβ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα καὶ εἰ̃πεν τί του̃το ἐποίησας ἰδοὺ ἠ̃λθεν Αβεννηρ πρὸς σέ καὶ ἵνα τί ἐξαπέσταλκας αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπελήλυθεν ἐν εἰρήνη̨ (Ⅲ)

- Et ingressus est Joab ad regem, et ait : Quid fecisti ? Ecce venit Abner ad te : quare dimisisti eum, et abiit et recessit ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃3 ויבא יואב אל המלך ויאמר מה עשיתה הנה בא אבנר אליך למה זה שלחתו וילך הלוך ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 25

Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest.

- Tu connais Abner, fils de Ner! c'est pour te tromper qu'il est venu, pour épier tes démarches, et pour savoir tout ce que tu fais. (Ⅱ)

- ἠ̃ οὐκ οἰ̃δας τὴν κακίαν Αβεννηρ υἱου̃ Νηρ ὅτι ἀπατη̃σαί σε παρεγένετο καὶ γνω̃ναι τὴν ἔξοδόν σου καὶ τὴν εἴσοδόν σου καὶ γνω̃ναι ἅπαντα ὅσα σὺ ποιει̃ς (Ⅲ)

- ignoras Abner filium Ner, quoniam ad hoc venit ad te ut deciperet te, et sciret exitum tuum et introitum tuum, et nosset omnia quæ agis ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃3 ידעת את אבנר בן נר כי לפתתך בא ולדעת את מוצאך ואת *מבואך **מובאך ולדעת את כל אשר אתה עשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 26

And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.

- Et Joab, après avoir quitté David, envoya sur les traces d'Abner des messagers, qui le ramenèrent depuis la citerne de Sira: David n'en savait rien. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀνέστρεψεν Ιωαβ ἀπὸ του̃ Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους ὀπίσω Αβεννηρ καὶ ἐπιστρέφουσιν αὐτὸν ἀπὸ του̃ φρέατος του̃ Σεϊραμ καὶ Δαυιδ οὐκ ἤ̨δει (Ⅲ)

- Egressus itaque Joab a David, misit nuntios post Abner, et reduxit eum a cisterna Sira, ignorante David. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 26 ׃3 ויצא יואב מעם דוד וישלח מלאכים אחרי אבנר וישבו אתו מבור הסרה ודוד לא ידע ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 27

And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

- Lorsque Abner fut de retour à Hébron, Joab le tira à l'écart au milieu de la porte, comme pour lui parler en secret, et là il le frappa au ventre et le tua, pour venger la mort d'Asaël, son frère. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν Αβεννηρ εἰς Χεβρων καὶ ἐξέκλινεν αὐτὸν Ιωαβ ἐκ πλαγίων τη̃ς πύλης λαλη̃σαι πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐνεδρεύων καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν ἐκει̃ ἐπὶ τὴν ψόαν καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐν τω̨̃ αἵματι Ασαηλ του̃ ἀδελφου̃ Ιωαβ (Ⅲ)

- Cumque rediisset Abner in Hebron, seorsum adduxit eum Joab ad medium portæ ut loqueretur ei, in dolo : et percussit illum ibi in inguine, et mortuus est in ultionem sanguinis Asaël fratris ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 27 ׃3 וישב אבנר חברון ויטהו יואב אל תוך השער לדבר אתו בשלי ויכהו שם החמש וימת בדם עשה אל אחיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 28

And afterward when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:

- David l'apprit ensuite, et il dit: Je suis à jamais innocent, devant l'Éternel, du sang d'Abner, fils de Ner, et mon royaume l'est aussi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἤκουσεν Δαυιδ μετὰ ταυ̃τα καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἀθω̨̃ός εἰμι ἐγὼ καὶ ἡ βασιλεία μου ἀπὸ κυρίου ἕως αἰω̃νος ἀπὸ τω̃ν αἱμάτων Αβεννηρ υἱου̃ Νηρ (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum audisset David rem jam gestam, ait : Mundus ego sum, et regnum meum apud Dominum usque in sempiternum, a sanguine Abner filii Ner : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 28 ׃3 וישמע דוד מאחרי כן ויאמר נקי אנכי וממלכתי מעם יהוה עד עולם מדמי אבנר בן נר ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 29

Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.

- Que ce sang retombe sur Joab et sur toute la maison de son père! Qu'il y ait toujours quelqu'un dans la maison de Joab, qui soit atteint d'un flux ou de la lèpre, ou qui s'appuie sur un bâton, ou qui tombe par l'épée, ou qui manque de pain! (Ⅱ)

- καταντησάτωσαν ἐπὶ κεφαλὴν Ιωαβ καὶ ἐπὶ πάντα τὸν οἰ̃κον του̃ πατρὸς αὐτου̃ καὶ μὴ ἐκλίποι ἐκ του̃ οἴκου Ιωαβ γονορρυὴς καὶ λεπρὸς καὶ κρατω̃ν σκυτάλης καὶ πίπτων ἐν ῥομφαία̨ καὶ ἐλασσούμενος ἄρτοις (Ⅲ)

- et veniat super caput Joab, et super omnem domum patris ejus : nec deficiat de domo Joab fluxum seminis sustinens, et leprosus, et tenens fusum, et cadens gladio, et indigens pane. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 29 ׃3 יחלו על ראש יואב ואל כל בית אביו ואל יכרת מבית יואב זב ומצרע ומחזיק בפלך ונפל בחרב וחסר לחם ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 30

So Joab, and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.

- Ainsi Joab et Abischaï, son frère, tuèrent Abner, parce qu'il avait donné la mort à Asaël, leur frère, à Gabaon, dans la bataille. (Ⅱ)

- Ιωαβ δὲ καὶ Αβεσσα ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτου̃ διεπαρετηρου̃ντο τὸν Αβεννηρ ἀνθ' ὡ̃ν ἐθανάτωσεν τὸν Ασαηλ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτω̃ν ἐν Γαβαων ἐν τω̨̃ πολέμω̨ (Ⅲ)

- Igitur Joab et Abisai frater ejus interfecerunt Abner, eo quod occidisset Asaël fratrem eorum in Gabaon in prælio.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 30 ׃3 ויואב ואבישי אחיו הרגו לאבנר על אשר המית את עשהאל אחיהם בגבעון במלחמה פ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 31

And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.

- David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui: Déchirez vos vêtements, ceignez-vous de sacs, et pleurez devant Abner! Et le roi David marcha derrière le cercueil. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Ιωαβ καὶ πρὸς πάντα τὸν λαὸν τὸν μετ' αὐτου̃ διαρρήξατε τὰ ἱμάτια ὑμω̃ν καὶ περιζώσασθε σάκκους καὶ κόπτεσθε ἔμπροσθεν Αβεννηρ καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαυιδ ἐπορεύετο ὀπίσω τη̃ς κλίνης (Ⅲ)

- Dixit autem David ad Joab, et ad omnem populum qui erat cum eo : Scindite vestimenta vestra, et accingimini saccis, et plangite ante exequias Abner. Porro rex David sequebatur feretrum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 31 ׃3 ויאמר דוד אל יואב ואל כל העם אשר אתו קרעו בגדיכם וחגרו שקים וספדו לפני אבנר והמלך דוד הלך אחרי המטה ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 32

And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.

- On enterra Abner à Hébron. Le roi éleva la voix et pleura sur le sépulcre d'Abner, et tout le peuple pleura. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ θάπτουσιν τὸν Αβεννηρ εἰς Χεβρων καὶ ἠ̃ρεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὴν φωνὴν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔκλαυσεν ἐπὶ του̃ τάφου αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔκλαυσεν πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς ἐπὶ Αβεννηρ (Ⅲ)

- Cumque sepelissent Abner in Hebron, levavit rex David vocem suam, et flevit super tumulum Abner : flevit autem et omnis populus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 32 ׃3 ויקברו את אבנר בחברון וישא‪[1]‬ המלך את קולו ויבך אל קבר אבנר ויבכו כל העם פ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 33

And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?

- Le roi fit une complainte sur Abner, et dit: Abner devait-il mourir comme meurt un criminel? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐθρήνησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐπὶ Αβεννηρ καὶ εἰ̃πεν εἰ κατὰ τὸν θάνατον Ναβαλ ἀποθανει̃ται Αβεννηρ (Ⅲ)

- Plangensque rex, et lugens Abner, ait : [Nequaquam ut mori solent ignavi, mortuus est Abner./ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 33 ׃3 ויקנן המלך אל אבנר ויאמר הכמות נבל ימות אבנר ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 34

Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him.

- Tu n'avais ni les mains liées, ni les pieds dans les chaînes! Tu es tombé comme on tombe devant des méchants. (Ⅱ)

- αἱ χει̃ρές σου οὐκ ἐδέθησαν οἱ πόδες σου οὐκ ἐν πέδαις οὐ προσήγαγεν ὡς Ναβαλ ἐνώπιον υἱω̃ν ἀδικίας ἔπεσας καὶ συνήχθη πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς του̃ κλαυ̃σαι αὐτόν (Ⅲ)

- Manus tuæ ligatæ non sunt,/ et pedes tui non sunt compedibus aggravati :/ sed sicut solent cadere coram filiis iniquitatis, sic corruisti.] Congeminansque omnis populus flevit super eum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 34 ׃3 ידך לא אסרות ורגליך לא לנחשתים הגשו כנפול לפני בני עולה נפלת ויספו כל העם לבכות עליו ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 35

And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.

- Et tout le peuple pleura de nouveau sur Abner. Tout le peuple s'approcha de David pour lui faire prendre quelque nourriture, pendant qu'il était encore jour; mais David jura, en disant: Que Dieu me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si je goûte du pain ou quoi que ce soit avant le coucher du soleil! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθεν πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς περιδειπνη̃σαι τὸν Δαυιδ ἄρτοις ἔτι οὔσης ἡμέρας καὶ ὤμοσεν Δαυιδ λέγων τάδε ποιήσαι μοι ὁ θεὸς καὶ τάδε προσθείη ὅτι ἐὰν μὴ δύη̨ ὁ ἥλιος οὐ μὴ γεύσωμαι ἄρτου ἢ ἀπὸ παντός τινος (Ⅲ)

- Cumque venisset universa multitudo cibum capere cum David, clara adhuc die juravit David, dicens : Hæc faciat mihi Deus, et hæc addat, si ante occasum solis gustavero panem vel aliud quidquam. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 35 ׃3 ויבא כל העם להברות את דוד לחם בעוד היום וישבע דוד לאמר כה יעשה לי אלהים וכה יסיף כי אם לפני בוא השמש אטעם לחם או כל מאומה ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 36

And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.

- Cela fut connu et approuvé de tout le peuple, qui trouva bon tout ce qu'avait fait le roi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔγνω πα̃ς ὁ λαός καὶ ἤρεσεν ἐνώπιον αὐτω̃ν πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐνώπιον του̃ λαου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Omnisque populus audivit, et placuerunt eis cuncta quæ fecit rex in conspectu totius populi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 36 ׃3 וכל העם הכירו וייטב בעיניהם ככל אשר עשה המלך בעיני כל העם טוב ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 37

For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.

- Tout le peuple et tout Israël comprirent en ce jour que ce n'était pas par ordre du roi qu'Abner, fils de Ner, avait été tué. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔγνω πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς καὶ πα̃ς Ισραηλ ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ἐκείνη̨ ὅτι οὐκ ἐγένετο παρὰ του̃ βασιλέως θανατω̃σαι τὸν Αβεννηρ υἱὸν Νηρ (Ⅲ)

- Et cognovit omne vulgus et universus Israël in die illa, quoniam non actum fuisset a rege ut occideretur Abner filius Ner. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 37 ׃3 וידעו כל העם וכל ישראל ביום ההוא כי לא היתה מהמלך להמית את אבנר בן נר פ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 38

And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?

- Le roi dit à ses serviteurs: Ne savez-vous pas qu'un chef, qu'un grand homme, est tombé aujourd'hui en Israël? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς τοὺς παι̃δας αὐτου̃ οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι ἡγούμενος μέγας πέπτωκεν ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ταύτη̨ ἐν τω̨̃ Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- Dixit quoque rex ad servos suos : Num ignoratis quoniam princeps et maximus cecidit hodie in Israël ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 38 ׃3 ויאמר המלך אל עבדיו הלוא תדעו כי שר וגדול נפל היום הזה בישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

3. 39

And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

- Je suis encore faible, quoique j'aie reçu l'onction royale; et ces gens, les fils de Tseruja, sont trop puissants pour moi. Que l'Éternel rende selon sa méchanceté à celui qui fait le mal! (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι σήμερον συγγενὴς καὶ καθεσταμένος ὑπὸ βασιλέως οἱ δὲ ἄνδρες οὑ̃τοι υἱοὶ Σαρουιας σκληρότεροί μού εἰσιν ἀνταποδω̨̃ κύριος τω̨̃ ποιου̃ντι πονηρὰ κατὰ τὴν κακίαν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Ego autem adhuc delicatus, et unctus rex : porro viri isti filii Sarviæ duri sunt mihi : retribuat Dominus facienti malum juxta malitiam suam. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 39 ׃3 ואנכי היום רך ומשוח מלך והאנשים האלה בני צרויה קשים ממני ישלם יהוה לעשה הרעה כרעתו פ‬ (Ⅴ)
