And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.
- Roboam se rendit à Sichem, car tout Israël était venu à Sichem pour le faire roi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠ̃λθεν Ροβοαμ εἰς Συχεμ ὅτι εἰς Συχεμ ἤρχετο πα̃ς Ισραηλ βασιλευ̃σαι αὐτόν (Ⅲ) - Profectus est autem Roboam in Sichem : illuc enim cunctus Israël convenerat ut constituerent eum regem. (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃10 וילך רחבעם שכמה כי שכם באו כל ישראל להמליך אתו (Ⅴ)

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
- Lorsque Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, eut des nouvelles, il était en Égypte, où il s'était enfui loin du roi Salomon, et il revint d'Égypte. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν Ιεροβοαμ υἱὸς Ναβατ καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν Αἰγύπτω̨ ὡς ἔφυγεν ἀπὸ προσώπου Σαλωμων του̃ βασιλέως καὶ κατώ̨κησεν Ιεροβοαμ ἐν Αἰγύπτω̨ καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν Ιεροβοαμ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου (Ⅲ) - Quod cum audisset Jeroboam filius Nabat, qui erat in Ægypto (fugerat quippe illuc ante Salomonem), statim reversus est. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃10 ויהי כשמע ירבעם בן נבט והוא במצרים אשר ברח מפני שלמה המלך וישב ירבעם ממצרים (Ⅴ)

And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,
- On l'envoya appeler. Alors Jéroboam et tout Israël vinrent vers Roboam et lui parlèrent ainsi: (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπέστειλαν καὶ ἐκάλεσαν αὐτόν καὶ ἠ̃λθεν Ιεροβοαμ καὶ πα̃σα ἡ ἐκκλησία Ισραηλ πρὸς Ροβοαμ λέγοντες (Ⅲ) - Vocaveruntque eum, et venit cum universo Israël : et locuti sunt ad Roboam, dicentes : (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃10 וישלחו ויקראו לו ויבא ירבעם וכל ישראל וידברו אל רחבעם לאמר (Ⅴ)

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
- Ton père a rendu notre joug dur; maintenant allège cette rude servitude et le joug pesant que nous a imposé ton père. Et nous te servirons. (Ⅱ) - ὁ πατήρ σου ἐσκλήρυνεν τὸν ζυγὸν ἡμω̃ν καὶ νυ̃ν ἄφες ἀπὸ τη̃ς δουλείας του̃ πατρός σου τη̃ς σκληρα̃ς καὶ ἀπὸ του̃ ζυγου̃ αὐτου̃ του̃ βαρέος οὑ̃ ἔδωκεν ἐφ' ἡμα̃ς καὶ δουλεύσομέν σοι (Ⅲ) - Pater tuus durissimo jugo nos pressit : tu leviora impera patre tuo, qui nobis imposuit gravem servitutem, et paululum de onere subleva, ut serviamus tibi. (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃10 אביך הקשה את עלנו ועתה הקל מעבדת אביך הקשה ומעלו הכבד אשר נתן עלינו ונעבדך (Ⅴ)

And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
- Il leur dit: Revenez vers moi dans trois jours. Et le peuple s'en alla. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς πορεύεσθε ἕως τριω̃ν ἡμερω̃ν καὶ ἔρχεσθε πρός με καὶ ἀπη̃λθεν ὁ λαός (Ⅲ) - Qui ait : Post tres dies revertimini ad me. Cumque abiisset populus, (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃10 ויאמר אלהם עוד שלשת ימים ושובו אלי וילך העם ס (Ⅴ)

And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
- Le roi Roboam consulta les vieillards qui avaient été auprès de Salomon, son père, pendant sa vie, et il dit: Que conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple? (Ⅱ) - καὶ συνήγαγεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ροβοαμ τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους τοὺς ἑστηκότας ἐναντίον Σαλωμων του̃ πατρὸς αὐτου̃ ἐν τω̨̃ ζη̃ν αὐτὸν λέγων πω̃ς ὑμει̃ς βουλεύεσθε του̃ ἀποκριθη̃ναι τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ τούτω̨ λόγον (Ⅲ) - iniit consilium cum senibus qui steterant coram patre ejus Salomone dum adhuc viveret, dicens : Quid datis consilii ut respondeam populo ? (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃10 ויועץ המלך רחבעם את הזקנים אשר היו עמדים לפני שלמה אביו בהיתו חי לאמר איך אתם נועצים להשיב לעם הזה דבר (Ⅴ)

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
- Et voici ce qu'ils lui dirent: Si tu es bon envers ce peuple, si tu les reçois favorablement, et si tu leur parles avec bienveillance, ils seront pour toujours tes serviteurs. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐλάλησαν αὐτω̨̃ λέγοντες ἐὰν ἐν τη̨̃ σήμερον γένη̨ εἰς ἀγαθὸν τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ τούτω̨ καὶ εὐδοκήση̨ς καὶ λαλήση̨ς αὐτοι̃ς λόγους ἀγαθούς καὶ ἔσονταί σοι παι̃δες πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας (Ⅲ) - Qui dixerunt ei : Si placueris populo huic, et leniveris eos verbis clementibus, servient tibi omni tempore. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃10 וידברו אליו לאמר אם תהיה לטוב להעם הזה ורציתם ודברת אלהם דברים טובים והיו לך עבדים כל הימים (Ⅴ)

But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
- Mais Roboam laissa le conseil que lui donnaient les vieillards, et il consulta les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui et qui l'entouraient. (Ⅱ) - καὶ κατέλιπεν τὴν βουλὴν τω̃ν πρεσβυτέρων οἳ συνεβουλεύσαντο αὐτω̨̃ καὶ συνεβουλεύσατο μετὰ τω̃ν παιδαρίων τω̃ν συνεκτραφέντων μετ' αὐτου̃ τω̃ν ἑστηκότων ἐναντίον αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - At ille reliquit consilium senum, et cum juvenibus tractare cœpit, qui cum eo nutriti fuerant, et erant in comitatu illius. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃10 ויעזב את עצת הזקנים אשר יעצהו ויועץ את הילדים אשר גדלו אתו העמדים לפניו (Ⅴ)

And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
- Il leur dit: Que conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple qui me tient ce langage: Allège le joug que nous a imposé ton père? (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς τί ὑμει̃ς βουλεύεσθε καὶ ἀποκριθήσομαι λόγον τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ τούτω̨ οἳ ἐλάλησαν πρός με λέγοντες ἄνες ἀπὸ του̃ ζυγου̃ οὑ̃ ἔδωκεν ὁ πατήρ σου ἐφ' ἡμα̃ς (Ⅲ) - Dixitque ad eos : Quid vobis videtur ? vel respondere quid debeo populo huic, qui dixit mihi : Subleva jugum quod imposuit nobis pater tuus ? (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃10 ויאמר אלהם מה אתם נועצים ונשיב דבר את העם הזה אשר דברו אלי לאמר הקל מן העל אשר נתן אביך עלינו (Ⅴ)

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.
- Et voici ce que lui dirent les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui: Tu parleras ainsi à ce peuple qui t'a tenu ce langage: Ton père a rendu notre joug pesant, et toi, allège-le-nous! tu leur parleras ainsi: Mon petit doigt est plus gros que les reins de mon père. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐλάλησαν αὐτω̨̃ τὰ παιδάρια τὰ ἐκτραφέντα μετ' αὐτου̃ οὕτως λαλήσεις τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ τω̨̃ λαλήσαντι πρὸς σὲ λέγων ὁ πατήρ σου ἐβάρυνεν τὸν ζυγὸν ἡμω̃ν καὶ σὺ ἄφες ἀφ' ἡμω̃ν οὕτως ἐρει̃ς ὁ μικρὸς δάκτυλός μου παχύτερος τη̃ς ὀσφύος του̃ πατρός μου (Ⅲ) - At illi responderunt ut juvenes, et nutriti cum eo in deliciis, atque dixerunt : Sic loqueris populo qui dixit tibi : Pater tuus aggravavit jugum nostrum, tu subleva : et sic respondebis ei : Minimus digitus meus grossior est lumbis patris mei. (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃10 וידברו אתו הילדים אשר גדלו אתו לאמר כה תאמר לעם אשר דברו אליך לאמר אביך הכביד את עלנו ואתה הקל מעלינו כה תאמר אלהם קטני עבה ממתני אבי (Ⅴ)

For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
- Maintenant, mon père vous a chargés d'un joug pesant, et moi je vous le rendrai plus pesant; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions. (Ⅱ) - καὶ νυ̃ν ὁ πατήρ μου ἐπαίδευσεν ὑμα̃ς ζυγω̨̃ βαρει̃ καὶ ἐγὼ προσθήσω ἐπὶ τὸν ζυγὸν ὑμω̃ν ὁ πατήρ μου ἐπαίδευσεν ὑμα̃ς ἐν μάστιγξιν καὶ ἐγὼ παιδεύσω ὑμα̃ς ἐν σκορπίοις (Ⅲ) - Pater meus imposuit vobis grave jugum, et ego majus pondus apponam ; pater meus cecidit vos flagellis, ego vero cædam vos scorpionibus. (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃10 ועתה אבי העמיס עליכם על כבד ואני אסיף על עלכם אבי יסר אתכם בשוטים ואני בעקרבים ס (Ⅴ)

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
- Jéroboam et tout le peuple vinrent à Roboam le troisième jour, suivant ce qu'avait dit le roi: Revenez vers moi dans trois jours. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠ̃λθεν Ιεροβοαμ καὶ πα̃ς ὁ λαὸς πρὸς Ροβοαμ τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̨̃ τρίτη̨ ὡς ἐλάλησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς λέγων ἐπιστρέψατε πρός με τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τη̨̃ τρίτη̨ (Ⅲ) - Venit ergo Jeroboam et universus populus ad Roboam die tertio, sicut præceperat eis. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃10 ויבא ירבעם וכל העם אל רחבעם ביום השלשי כאשר דבר המלך לאמר שובו אלי ביום השלשי (Ⅴ)

And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
- Le roi leur répondit durement. Le roi Roboam laissa le conseil des vieillards, (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ βασιλεὺς σκληρά καὶ ἐγκατέλιπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ροβοαμ τὴν βουλὴν τω̃ν πρεσβυτέρων (Ⅲ) - Responditque rex dura, derelicto consilio seniorum : (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃10 ויענם המלך קשה ויעזב המלך רחבעם את עצת הזקנים (Ⅴ)

And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
- et leur parla ainsi d'après le conseil des jeunes gens: Mon père a rendu votre joug pesant, et moi je le rendrai plus pesant; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς κατὰ τὴν βουλὴν τω̃ν νεωτέρων λέγων ὁ πατήρ μου ἐβάρυνεν τὸν ζυγὸν ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἐγὼ προσθήσω ἐπ' αὐτόν ὁ πατήρ μου ἐπαίδευσεν ὑμα̃ς ἐν μάστιγξιν καὶ ἐγὼ παιδεύσω ὑμα̃ς ἐν σκορπίοις (Ⅲ) - locutusque est juxta juvenum voluntatem : Pater meus grave vobis imposuit jugum, quod ego gravius faciam ; pater meus cecidit vos flagellis, ego vero cædam vos scorpionibus. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃10 וידבר אלהם כעצת הילדים לאמר אכביד את עלכם ואני אסיף עליו אבי יסר אתכם בשוטים ואני בעקרבים (Ⅴ)

So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
- Ainsi le roi n'écouta point le peuple; car cela fut dirigé par Dieu, en vue de l'accomplissement de la parole que l'Éternel avait dite par Achija de Silo à Jéroboam, fils de Nebath. (Ⅱ) - καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς του̃ λαου̃ ὅτι ἠ̃ν μεταστροφὴ παρὰ του̃ θεου̃ λέγων ἀνέστησεν κύριος τὸν λόγον αὐτου̃ ὃν ἐλάλησεν ἐν χειρὶ Αχια του̃ Σηλωνίτου περὶ Ιεροβοαμ υἱου̃ Ναβατ (Ⅲ) - Et non acquievit populi precibus : erat enim voluntatis Dei ut compleretur sermo ejus quem locutus fuerat per manum Ahiæ Silonitis ad Jeroboam filium Nabat. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃10 ולא שמע המלך אל העם כי היתה נסבה מעם האלהים למען הקים יהוה את דברו אשר דבר ביד אחיהו השלוני אל ירבעם בן נבט (Ⅴ)

And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
- Lorsque tout Israël vit que le roi ne l'écoutait pas, le peuple répondit au roi: Quelle part avons-nous avec David? Nous n'avons point d'héritage avec le fils d'Isaï! A tes tentes, Israël! Maintenant, pourvois à ta maison, David! Et tout Israël s'en alla dans ses tentes. (Ⅱ) - καὶ παντὸς Ισραηλ ὅτι οὐκ ἤκουσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ λαὸς πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα λέγων τίς ἡμι̃ν μερὶς ἐν Δαυιδ καὶ κληρονομία ἐν υἱω̨̃ Ιεσσαι εἰς τὰ σκηνώματά σου Ισραηλ νυ̃ν βλέπε τὸν οἰ̃κόν σου Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπορεύθη πα̃ς Ισραηλ εἰς τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Populus autem universus rege duriora dicente, sic locutus est ad eum : Non est nobis pars in David, neque hæreditas in filio Isai. Revertere in tabernacula tua, Israël ; tu autem pasce domum tuam David. Et abiit Israël in tabernacula sua. (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃10 וכל ישראל כי לא שמע המלך להם וישיבו העם את המלך לאמר מה לנו חלק בדויד ולא נחלה בבן ישי איש לאהליך ישראל עתה ראה ביתך דויד וילך כל ישראל לאהליו ס (Ⅴ)

But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
- Les enfants d'Israël qui habitaient les villes de Juda furent les seuls sur qui régna Roboam. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἄνδρες Ισραηλ οἱ κατοικου̃ντες ἐν πόλεσιν Ιουδα καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπ' αὐτω̃ν Ροβοαμ (Ⅲ) - Super filios autem Israël qui habitabant in civitatibus Juda, regnavit Roboam. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃10 ובני ישראל הישבים בערי יהודה וימלך עליהם רחבעם (Ⅴ)

Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
- Alors le roi Roboam envoya Hadoram, qui était préposé aux impôts. Mais Hadoram fut lapidé par les enfants d'Israël, et il mourut. Et le roi Roboam se hâta de monter sur un char, pour s'enfuir à Jérusalem. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ροβοαμ τὸν Αδωνιραμ τὸν ἐπὶ του̃ φόρου καὶ ἐλιθοβόλησαν αὐτὸν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ λίθοις καὶ ἀπέθανεν καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ροβοαμ ἔσπευσεν του̃ ἀναβη̃ναι εἰς τὸ ἅρμα του̃ φυγει̃ν εἰς Ιερουσαλημ (Ⅲ) - Misitque rex Roboam Aduram, qui præerat tributis, et lapidaverunt eum filii Israël, et mortuus est : porro rex Roboam currum festinavit ascendere, et fugit in Jerusalem. (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃10 וישלח המלך רחבעם את הדרם אשר על המס וירגמו בו בני ישראל אבן וימת והמלך רחבעם התאמץ לעלות במרכבה לנוס ירושלם ס (Ⅴ)

And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
- C'est ainsi qu'Israël s'est détaché de la maison de David jusqu'à ce jour. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠθέτησεν Ισραηλ ἐν τω̨̃ οἴκω̨ Δαυιδ ἕως τη̃ς ἡμέρας ταύτης (Ⅲ) - Recessitque Israël a domo David, usque ad diem hanc. (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃10 ויפשעו ישראל בבית דויד עד היום הזה ס (Ⅴ)
