The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:
- fils d'Abischua, fils de Phinées, fils d'Éléazar, fils d'Aaron, le souverain sacrificateur. (Ⅱ) - filii Abisue, filii Phinees, filii Eleazar, filii Aaron sacerdotis ab initio. (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃7 בן אבישוע בן פינחס בן אלעזר בן אהרן הכהן הראש (Ⅴ)

This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.
- Cet Esdras vint de Babylone: c'était un scribe versé dans la loi de Moïse, donnée par l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël. Et comme la main de l'Éternel, son Dieu, était sur lui, le roi lui accorda tout ce qu'il avait demandé. (Ⅱ) - Ipse Esdras ascendit de Babylone, et ipse scriba velox in lege Moysi, quam Dominus Deus dedit Israël : et dedit ei rex secundum manum Domini Dei ejus super eum, omnem petitionem ejus. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃7 הוא עזרא עלה מבבל והוא ספר מהיר בתורת משה אשר נתן יהוה אלהי ישראל ויתן לו המלך כיד יהוה אלהיו עליו כל בקשתו פ (Ⅴ)

And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
- Plusieurs des enfants d'Israël, des sacrificateurs et des Lévites, des chantres, des portiers, et des Néthiniens, vinrent aussi à Jérusalem, la septième année du roi Artaxerxès. (Ⅱ) - Et ascenderunt de filiis Israël, et de filiis sacerdotum, et de filiis Levitarum, et de cantoribus, et de janitoribus, et de Nathinæis, in Jerusalem, anno septimo Artaxerxis regis. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃7 ויעלו מבני ישראל ומן הכהנים והלוים והמשררים והשערים והנתינים אל ירושלם בשנת שבע לארתחשסתא המלך (Ⅴ)

And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.
- Esdras arriva à Jérusalem au cinquième mois de la septième année du roi; (Ⅱ) - Et venerunt in Jerusalem mense quinto, ipse est annus septimus regis. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃7 ויבא ירושלם בחדש החמישי היא שנת השביעית למלך (Ⅴ)

For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.
- il était parti de Babylone le premier jour du premier mois, et il arriva à Jérusalem le premier jour du cinquième mois, la bonne main de son Dieu étant sur lui. (Ⅱ) - Quia in primo die mensis primi cœpit ascendere de Babylone, et in primo die mensis quinti venit in Jerusalem, juxta manum Dei sui bonam super se. (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃7 כי באחד לחדש הראשון הוא יסד המעלה מבבל ובאחד לחדש החמישי בא אל ירושלם כיד אלהיו הטובה עליו (Ⅴ)

For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
- Car Esdras avait appliqué son coeur à étudier et à mettre en pratique la loi de l'Éternel, et à enseigner au milieu d'Israël les lois et les ordonnances. (Ⅱ) - Esdras enim paravit cor suum, ut investigaret legem Domini, et faceret et doceret in Israël præceptum et judicium.\ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃7 כי עזרא הכין לבבו לדרוש את תורת יהוה ולעשת וללמד בישראל חק ומשפט ס (Ⅴ)

Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.
- Voici la copie de la lettre donnée par le roi Artaxerxès à Esdras, sacrificateur et scribe, enseignant les commandements et les lois de l'Éternel concernant Israël: (Ⅱ) - Hoc est autem exemplar epistolæ edicti, quod dedit rex Artaxerxes Esdræ sacerdoti, scribæ erudito in sermonibus et præceptis Domini, et cæremoniis ejus in Israël. (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃7 וזה פרשגן הנשתון אשר נתן המלך ארתחשסתא לעזרא הכהן הספר ספר דברי מצות יהוה וחקיו על ישראל פ (Ⅴ)

Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.
- Artaxerxès, roi des rois, à Esdras, sacrificateur et scribe, versé dans la loi du Dieu des cieux, etc. (Ⅱ) - Artaxerxes rex regum Esdræ sacerdoti scribæ legis Dei cæli doctissimo, salutem. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃7 ארתחשסתא מלך מלכיא לעזרא כהנא ספר דתא די אלה שמיא גמיר וכענת (Ⅴ)

I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
- J'ai donné ordre de laisser aller tous ceux du peuple d'Israël, de ses sacrificateurs et de ses Lévites, qui se trouvent dans mon royaume, et qui sont disposés à partir avec toi pour Jérusalem. (Ⅱ) - A me decretum est, ut cuicumque placuerit in regno meo de populo Israël, et de sacerdotibus ejus, et de Levitis, ire in Jerusalem, tecum vadat. (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃7 מני שים טעם די כל מתנדב במלכותי מן עמה ישראל וכהנוהי ולויא למהך לירושלם עמך יהך (Ⅴ)

Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;
- Tu es envoyé par le roi et ses sept conseillers pour inspecter Juda et Jérusalem d'après la loi de ton Dieu, laquelle est entre tes mains, (Ⅱ) - A facie enim regis, et septem consiliatorum ejus, missus es, ut visites Judæam et Jerusalem in lege Dei tui, quæ est in manu tua : (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃7 כל קבל די מן קדם מלכא ושבעת יעטהי שליח לבקרא על יהוד ולירושלם בדת אלהך די בידך (Ⅴ)

And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,
- et pour porter l'argent et l'or que le roi et ses conseillers ont généreusement offerts au Dieu d'Israël, dont la demeure est à Jérusalem, (Ⅱ) - et ut feras argentum et aurum quod rex, et consiliatores ejus, sponte obtulerunt Deo Israël, cujus in Jerusalem tabernaculum est. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃7 ולהיבלה כסף ודהב די מלכא ויעטוהי התנדבו לאלה ישראל די בירושלם משכנה (Ⅴ)

And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:
- tout l'argent et l'or que tu trouveras dans toute la province de Babylone, et les dons volontaires faits par le peuple et les sacrificateurs pour la maison de leur Dieu à Jérusalem. (Ⅱ) - Et omne argentum et aurum quodcumque inveneris in universa provincia Babylonis, et populus offerre voluerit, et de sacerdotibus quæ sponte obtulerint domui Dei sui, quæ est in Jerusalem, (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃7 וכל כסף ודהב די תהשכח בכל מדינת בבל עם התנדבות עמא וכהניא מתנדבין לבית אלההם די בירושלם (Ⅴ)

That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.
- En conséquence, tu auras soin d'acheter avec cet argent des taureaux, des béliers, des agneaux, et ce qui est nécessaire pour les offrandes et les libations, et tu les offriras sur l'autel de la maison de votre Dieu à Jérusalem. (Ⅱ) - libere accipe, et studiose eme de hac pecunia vitulos, arietes, agnos, et sacrificia, et libamina eorum, et offer ea super altare templi Dei vestri, quod est in Jerusalem. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃7 כל קבל דנה אספרנא תקנא בכספא דנה תורין דכרין אמרין ומנחתהון ונסכיהון ותקרב המו על מדבחה די בית אלהכם די בירושלם (Ⅴ)

And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.
- Vous ferez avec le reste de l'argent et de l'or ce que vous jugerez bon de faire, toi et tes frères, en vous conformant à la volonté de votre Dieu. (Ⅱ) - Sed et si quid tibi et fratribus tuis placuerit de reliquo argento et auro ut faciatis, juxta voluntatem Dei vestri facite. (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃7 ומה די *עליך **עלך[y] ועל *אחיך **אחך[y] ייטב בשאר כספא ודהבה למעבד כרעות אלהכם תעבדון (Ⅴ)

The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.
- Dépose devant le Dieu de Jérusalem les ustensiles qui te sont remis pour le service de la maison de ton Dieu. (Ⅱ) - Vasa quoque, quæ dantur tibi in ministerium domus Dei tui, trade in conspectu Dei in Jerusalem. (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃7 ומאניא די מתיהבין לך לפלחן בית אלהך השלם קדם אלה ירושלם (Ⅴ)

And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure house.
- Tu tireras de la maison des trésors du roi ce qu'il faudra pour les autres dépenses que tu auras à faire concernant la maison de ton Dieu. (Ⅱ) - Sed et cetera, quibus opus fuerit in domum Dei tui, quantumcumque necesse est ut expendas, dabitur de thesauro, et de fisco regis, (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃7 ושאר חשחות בית אלהך די יפל לך למנתן תנתן מן בית גנזי מלכא (Ⅴ)

And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,
- Moi, le roi Artaxerxès, je donne l'ordre à tous les trésoriers de l'autre côté du fleuve de livrer exactement à Esdras, sacrificateur et scribe, versé dans la loi du Dieu des cieux, tout ce qu'il vous demandera, (Ⅱ) - et a me. Ego Artaxerxes rex, statui atque decrevi omnibus custodibus arcæ publicæ, qui sunt trans flumen, ut quodcumque petierit a vobis Esdras sacerdos, scriba legis Dei cæli, absque mora detis, (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃7 ומני אנה ארתחשסתא מלכא שים טעם לכל גזבריא די בעבר נהרה די כל די ישאלנכון עזרא כהנה ספר דתא די אלה שמיא אספרנא יתעבד (Ⅴ)

Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.
- jusqu'à cent talents d'argent, cent cors de froment, cent baths de vin, cent baths d'huile, et du sel à discrétion. (Ⅱ) - usque ad argenti talenta centum, et usque ad frumenti coros centum, et usque ad vini batos centum, et usque ad batos olei centum, sal vero absque mensura. (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃7 עד כסף ככרין מאה ועד חנטין כרין מאה ועד חמר בתין מאה ועד בתין משח מאה ומלח די לא כתב (Ⅴ)

Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
- Que tout ce qui est ordonné par le Dieu des cieux se fasse ponctuellement pour la maison du Dieu des cieux, afin que sa colère ne soit pas sur le royaume, sur le roi et sur ses fils. (Ⅱ) - Omne quod ad ritum Dei cæli pertinet, tribuatur diligenter in domo Dei cæli : ne forte irascatur contra regnum regis, et filiorum ejus. (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃7 כל די מן טעם אלה שמיא יתעבד אדרזדא לבית אלה שמיא די למה להוא קצף על מלכות מלכא ובנוהי (Ⅴ)

Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.
- Nous vous faisons savoir qu'il ne peut être levé ni tribut, ni impôt, ni droit de passage, sur aucun des sacrificateurs, des Lévites, des chantres, des portiers, des Néthiniens, et des serviteurs de cette maison de Dieu. (Ⅱ) - Vobis quoque notum facimus de universis sacerdotibus, et Levitis, et cantoribus, et janitoribus, Nathinæis, et ministris domus Dei hujus, ut vectigal, et tributum, et annonas non habeatis potestatem imponendi super eos. (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃7 ולכם מהודעין די כל כהניא ולויא זמריא תרעיא נתיניא ופלחי בית אלהא דנה מנדה בלו והלך לא שליט למרמא עליהם (Ⅴ)

And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.
- Et toi, Esdras, selon la sagesse de Dieu que tu possèdes, établis des juges et des magistrats qui rendent la justice à tout le peuple de l'autre côté du fleuve, à tous ceux qui connaissent les lois de ton Dieu; et fais-les connaître à ceux qui ne le connaissent pas. (Ⅱ) - Tu autem Esdra, secundum sapientiam Dei tui, quæ est in manu tua, constitue judices et præsides, ut judicent omni populo qui est trans flumen, his videlicet qui noverunt legem Dei tui : sed et imperitos docete libere. (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃7 ואנת עזרא כחכמת אלהך די בידך מני שפטין ודינין די להון *דאנין **דאינין לכל עמה די בעבר נהרה לכל ידעי דתי אלהך ודי לא ידע תהודעון (Ⅴ)

And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
- Quiconque n'observera pas ponctuellement la loi de ton Dieu et la loi du roi sera condamné à la mort, au bannissement, à une amende, ou à la prison. (Ⅱ) - Et omnis qui non fecerit legem Dei tui, et legem regis, diligenter, judicium erit de eo sive in mortem, sive in exilium, sive in condemnationem substantiæ ejus, vel certe in carcerem.\ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃7 וכל די לא להוא עבד דתא די אלהך ודתא די מלכא אספרנא דינה להוא מתעבד מנה הן למות הן *לשרשו **לשרשי הן לענש נכסין ולאסורין פ (Ⅴ)

Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:
- Béni soit l'Éternel, le Dieu de nos pères, qui a disposé le coeur du roi à glorifier ainsi la maison de l'Éternel à Jérusalem, (Ⅱ) - Benedictus Dominus Deus patrum nostrorum, qui dedit hoc in corde regis ut glorificaret domum Domini quæ est in Jerusalem, (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃7 ברוך יהוה אלהי אבותינו אשר נתן כזאת בלב המלך לפאר את בית יהוה אשר בירושלם (Ⅴ)

And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
- et qui m'a rendu l'objet de la bienveillance du roi, de ses conseillers, et de tous ses puissants chefs! Fortifié par la main de l'Éternel, mon Dieu, qui était sur moi, j'ai rassemblé les chefs d'Israël, afin qu'ils partissent avec moi. (Ⅱ) - et in me inclinavit misericordiam suam coram rege et consiliatoribus ejus, et universis principibus regis potentibus : et ego confortatus manu Domini Dei mei, quæ erat in me, congregavi de Israël principes qui ascenderent mecum. (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃7 ועלי הטה חסד לפני המלך ויועציו ולכל שרי המלך הגברים ואני התחזקתי כיד יהוה אלהי עלי ואקבצה מישראל ראשים לעלות עמי פ (Ⅴ)
