1. 1  
The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
- Paroles de Néhémie, fils de Hacalia. Au mois de Kisleu, la vingtième année, comme j'étais à Suse, dans la capitale, (Ⅱ)
- Verba Nehemiæ filii Helchiæ. Et factum est in mense Casleu, anno vigesimo, et ego eram in Susis castro. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 1  ׃1   דברי נחמיה בן חכליה ויהי בחדש *כסלו **כסליו שנת עשרים ואני הייתי בשושן הבירה ‬ (Ⅴ)

That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
- Hanani, l'un de mes frères, et quelques hommes arrivèrent de Juda. Je les questionnai au sujet des Juifs réchappés qui étaient restés de la captivité, et au sujet de Jérusalem. (Ⅱ)
- Et venit Hanani, unus de fratribus meis, ipse et viri ex Juda : et interrogavi eos de Judæis qui remanserant, et supererant de captivitate, et Jerusalem. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 2  ׃1   ויבא חנני אחד מאחי הוא ואנשים מיהודה ואשאלם על היהודים הפליטה אשר נשארו מן השבי ועל ירושלם ‬ (Ⅴ)

And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
- Ils me répondirent: Ceux qui sont restés de la captivité sont là dans la province, au comble du malheur et de l'opprobre; les murailles de Jérusalem sont en ruines, et ses portes sont consumées par le feu. (Ⅱ)
- Et dixerunt mihi : Qui remanserunt, et relicti sunt de captivitate ibi in provincia, in afflictione magna sunt, et in opprobrio : et murus Jerusalem dissipatus est, et portæ ejus combustæ sunt igni. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 3  ׃1   ויאמרו לי הנשארים אשר נשארו מן השבי שם במדינה ברעה גדלה ובחרפה וחומת ירושלם מפרצת ושעריה נצתו באש ‬ (Ⅴ)

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
- Lorsque j'entendis ces choses, je m'assis, je pleurai, et je fus plusieurs jours dans la désolation. Je jeûnai et je priai devant le Dieu des cieux, (Ⅱ)
- Cumque audissem verba hujuscemodi, sedi, et flevi, et luxi diebus multis : jejunabam, et orabam ante faciem Dei cæli : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 4  ׃1   ויהי כשמעי את הדברים האלה ישבתי ואבכה ואתאבלה ימים ואהי צם ומתפלל לפני אלהי השמים ‬ (Ⅴ)

And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
- et je dis: O Éternel, Dieu des cieux, Dieu grand et redoutable, toi qui gardes ton alliance et qui fais miséricorde à ceux qui t'aiment et qui observent tes commandements! (Ⅱ)
- et dixi : Quæso, Domine Deus cæli fortis, magne atque terribilis, qui custodis pactum et misericordiam cum his qui te diligunt, et custodiunt mandata tua : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 5  ׃1   ואמר אנא יהוה אלהי השמים האל הגדול והנורא שמר הברית וחסד לאהביו ולשמרי מצותיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
- Que ton oreille soit attentive et que tes yeux soient ouverts: écoute la prière que ton serviteur t'adresse en ce moment, jour et nuit, pour tes serviteurs les enfants d'Israël, en confessant les péchés des enfants d'Israël, nos péchés contre toi; car moi et la maison de mon père, nous avons péché. (Ⅱ)
- fiant aures tuæ auscultantes, et oculi tui aperti, ut audias orationem servi tui, quam ego oro coram te hodie nocte et die pro filiis Israël servis tuis : et confiteor pro peccatis filiorum Israël, quibus peccaverunt tibi : ego et domus patris mei peccavimus, (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 6  ׃1   תהי נא אזנך קשבת ועיניך פתוחות‪[U]‬ לשמע אל תפלת עבדך אשר אנכי מתפלל לפניך היום יומם ולילה על בני ישראל עבדיך ומתודה על חטאות בני ישראל אשר חטאנו לך ואני ובית אבי חטאנו ‬ (Ⅴ)

We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
- Nous t'avons offensé, et nous n'avons point observé les commandements, les lois et les ordonnances que tu prescrivis à Moïse, ton serviteur. (Ⅱ)
- vanitate seducti sumus, et non custodivimus mandatum tuum, et cæremonias, et judicia quæ præcepisti Moysi famulo tuo. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 7  ׃1   חבל חבלנו לך ולא שמרנו את המצות ואת החקים ואת המשפטים אשר צוית את משה עבדך ‬ (Ⅴ)

Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
- Souviens-toi de cette parole que tu donnas ordre à Moïse, ton serviteur, de prononcer. Lorsque vous pécherez, je vous disperserai parmi les peuples; (Ⅱ)
- Memento verbi quod mandasti Moysi servo tuo, dicens : Cum transgressi fueritis, ego dispergam vos in populos : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 8  ׃1   זכר נא את הדבר אשר צוית את משה עבדך לאמר אתם תמעלו אני אפיץ אתכם בעמים ‬ (Ⅴ)

But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
- mais si vous revenez à moi, et si vous observez mes commandements et les mettez en pratique, alors, quand vous seriez exilés à l'extrémité du ciel, de là je vous rassemblerai et je vous ramènerai dans le lieu que j'ai choisi pour y faire résider mon nom. (Ⅱ)
- et si revertamini ad me, et custodiatis præcepta mea, et faciatis ea : etiamsi abducti fueritis ad extrema cæli, inde congregabo vos, et reducam in locum quem elegi ut habitaret nomen meum ibi. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 9  ׃1   ושבתם אלי ושמרתם מצותי ועשיתם אתם אם יהיה נדחכם בקצה השמים משם אקבצם *והבואתים **והביאותים אל המקום אשר בחרתי לשכן את שמי שם ‬ (Ⅴ)

Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
- Ils sont tes serviteurs et ton peuple, que tu as rachetés par ta grande puissance et par ta main forte. (Ⅱ)
- Et ipsi servi tui, et populus tuus, quos redemisti in fortitudine tua magna, et in manu tua valida. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 10 ׃1   והם עבדיך ועמך אשר פדית בכחך הגדול ובידך החזקה ‬ (Ⅴ)

O LORD, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
- Ah! Seigneur, que ton oreille soit attentive à la prière de ton serviteur, et à la prière de tes serviteurs qui veulent craindre ton nom! Donne aujourd'hui du succès à ton serviteur, et fais-lui trouver grâce devant cet homme! J'étais alors échanson du roi. (Ⅱ)
- Obsecro, Domine, sit auris tua attendens ad orationem servi tui, et ad orationem servorum tuorum, qui volunt timere nomen tuum : et dirige servum tuum hodie, et da ei misericordiam ante virum hunc. Ego enim eram pincerna regis. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 11 ׃1   אנא אדני תהי נא אזנך קשבת אל תפלת עבדך ואל תפלת עבדיך החפצים ליראה את שמך והצליחה נא לעבדך היום ותנהו לרחמים לפני האיש הזה ואני הייתי משקה למלך פ‬ (Ⅴ)
