6. 1  
Now it came to pass when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)
- Je n'avais pas encore posé les battants des portes, lorsque Sanballat, Tobija, Guéschem, l'Arabe, et nos autres ennemis apprirent que j'avais rebâti la muraille et qu'il n'y restait plus de brèche. (Ⅱ)
- Factum est autem, cum audisset Sanaballat, et Tobias, et Gossem Arabs, et ceteri inimici nostri, quod ædificassem ego murum, et non esset in ipso residua interruptio (usque ad tempus autem illud valvas non posueram in portis), (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 1  ׃6   ויהי כאשר נשמע לסנבלט וטוביה ולגשם הערבי וליתר איבינו כי בניתי את החומה ולא נותר בה פרץ גם עד העת ההיא דלתות לא העמדתי בשערים ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 2  
That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.
- Alors Sanballat et Guéschem m'envoyèrent dire: Viens, et ayons ensemble une entrevue dans les villages de la vallée d'Ono. Ils avaient médité de me faire du mal. (Ⅱ)
- miserunt Sanaballat et Gossem ad me, dicentes : Veni, et percutiamus fœdus pariter in viculis in campo Ono. Ipsi autem cogitabant ut facerent mihi malum. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 2  ׃6   וישלח סנבלט וגשם אלי לאמר לכה ונועדה יחדו בכפירים בבקעת אונו והמה חשבים לעשות לי רעה ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 3  
And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?
- Je leur envoyai des messagers avec cette réponse: J'ai un grand ouvrage à exécuter, et je ne puis descendre; le travail serait interrompu pendant que je quitterais pour aller vers vous. (Ⅱ)
- Misi ergo ad eos nuntios, dicens : Opus grande ego facio, et non possum descendere, ne forte negligatur cum venero, et descendero ad vos. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 3  ׃6   ואשלחה עליהם מלאכים לאמר מלאכה גדולה אני עשה ולא אוכל לרדת למה תשבת המלאכה כאשר ארפה וירדתי אליכם ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 4  
Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.
- Ils m'adressèrent quatre fois la même demande, et je leur fis la même réponse. (Ⅱ)
- Miserunt autem ad me secundum verbum hoc per quatuor vices : et respondi eis juxta sermonem priorem. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 4  ׃6   וישלחו אלי כדבר הזה ארבע פעמים ואשיב אותם כדבר הזה ס‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 5  
Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;
- Sanballat m'envoya ce message une cinquième fois par son serviteur, qui tenait à la main une lettre ouverte. (Ⅱ)
- Et misit ad me Sanaballat juxta verbum prius quinta vice puerum suum, et epistolam habebat in manu sua scriptam hoc modo : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 5  ׃6   וישלח אלי סנבלט כדבר הזה פעם חמישית את נערו ואגרת פתוחה בידו ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 6  
Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.
- Il y était écrit: Le bruit se répand parmi les nations et Gaschmu affirme que toi et les Juifs vous pensez à vous révolter, et que c'est dans ce but que tu rebâtis la muraille. Tu vas, dit-on, devenir leur roi, (Ⅱ)
- In gentibus auditum est, et Gossem dixit, quod tu et Judæi cogitetis rebellare, et propterea ædifices murum, et levare te velis super eos regem : propter quam causam (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 6  ׃6   כתוב בה בגוים נשמע וגשמו אמר אתה והיהודים חשבים למרוד על כן אתה בונה החומה ואתה הוה להם למלך כדברים האלה ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 7  
And thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.
- tu as même établi des prophètes pour te proclamer à Jérusalem roi de Juda. Et maintenant ces choses arriveront à la connaissance du roi. Viens donc, et consultons-nous ensemble. (Ⅱ)
- et prophetas posueris, qui prædicent de te in Jerusalem, dicentes : Rex in Judæa est. Auditurus est rex verba hæc : idcirco nunc veni, ut ineamus consilium pariter. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 7  ׃6   וגם נביאים העמדת לקרא עליך בירושלם לאמר מלך ביהודה ועתה ישמע למלך כדברים האלה ועתה לכה ונועצה יחדו ס‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 8  
Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.
- Je fis répondre à Sanballat: Ce que tu dis là n'est pas; c'est toi qui l'inventes! (Ⅱ)
- Et misi ad eos, dicens : Non est factum secundum verba hæc, quæ tu loqueris : de corde enim tuo tu componis hæc. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 8  ׃6   ואשלחה אליו לאמר לא נהיה כדברים האלה אשר אתה אומר כי מלבך אתה בודאם‪[U]‬ ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 9  
For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
- Tous ces gens voulaient nous effrayer, et ils se disaient: Ils perdront courage, et l'oeuvre ne se fera pas. Maintenant, ô Dieu, fortifie-moi! (Ⅱ)
- Omnes enim hi terrebant nos, cogitantes quod cessarent manus nostræ ab opere, et quiesceremus : quam ob causam magis confortavi manus meas.\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 9  ׃6   כי כלם מיראים אותנו לאמר ירפו ידיהם מן המלאכה ולא תעשה ועתה חזק את ידי ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 10  
Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.
- Je me rendis chez Schemaeja, fils de Delaja, fils de Mehétabeel. Il s'était enfermé, et il dit: Allons ensemble dans la maison de Dieu, au milieu du temple, et fermons les portes du temple; car ils viennent pour te tuer, et c'est pendant la nuit qu'ils viendront pour te tuer. (Ⅱ)
- Et ingressus sum domum Semaiæ filii Dalaiæ filii Metabeel secreto. Qui ait : Tractemus nobiscum in domo Dei in medio templi, et claudamus portas ædis : quia venturi sunt ut interficiant te, et nocte venturi sunt ad occidendum te. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 10 ׃6   ואני באתי בית שמעיה בן דליה בן מהיטבאל והוא עצור ויאמר נועד אל בית האלהים אל תוך ההיכל ונסגרה דלתות ההיכל כי באים להרגך ולילה באים להרגך ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 11  
And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
- Je répondis: Un homme comme moi prendre la fuite! Et quel homme tel que moi pourrait entrer dans le temple et vivre? Je n'entrerai point. (Ⅱ)
- Et dixi : Num quisquam similis mei fugit ? et quis ut ego ingredietur templum, et vivet ? non ingrediar. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 11 ׃6   ואמרה האיש כמוני יברח ומי כמוני אשר יבוא אל ההיכל וחי לא אבוא ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 12  
And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
- Et je reconnus que ce n'était pas Dieu qui l'envoyait. Mais il prophétisa ainsi sur moi parce que Sanballat et Tobija lui avaient donné de l'argent. (Ⅱ)
- Et intellexi quod Deus non misisset eum, sed quasi vaticinans locutus esset ad me, et Tobias et Sanaballat conduxissent eum. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 12 ׃6   ואכירה והנה לא אלהים שלחו כי הנבואה דבר עלי וטוביה וסנבלט שכרו ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 13  
Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.
- En le gagnant ainsi, ils espéraient que j'aurais peur, et que je suivrais ses avis et commettrais un péché; et ils auraient profité de cette atteinte à ma réputation pour me couvrir d'opprobre. (Ⅱ)
- Acceperat enim pretium, ut territus facerem, et peccarem, et haberent malum quod exprobrarent mihi. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 13 ׃6   למען שכור הוא למען אירא ואעשה כן וחטאתי והיה להם לשם רע למען יחרפוני פ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 14  
My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.
- Souviens-toi, ô mon Dieu, de Tobija et de Sanballat, et de leurs oeuvres! Souviens-toi aussi de Noadia, la prophétesse, et des autres prophètes qui cherchaient à m'effrayer! (Ⅱ)
- Memento mei, Domine, pro Tobia et Sanaballat, juxta opera eorum talia : sed et Noadiæ prophetæ, et ceterorum prophetarum, qui terrebant me.\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 14 ׃6   זכרה אלהי לטוביה ולסנבלט כמעשיו אלה וגם לנועדיה הנביאה וליתר הנביאים אשר היו מיראים אותי ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 15  
So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.
- La muraille fut achevée le vingt-cinquième jour du mois d'Élul, en cinquante-deux jours. (Ⅱ)
- Completus est autem murus vigesimo quinto die mensis Elul, quinquaginta duobus diebus. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 15 ׃6   ותשלם החומה בעשרים וחמשה לאלול לחמשים ושנים יום פ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 16  
And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
- Lorsque tous nos ennemis l'apprirent, toutes les nations qui étaient autour de nous furent dans la crainte; elles éprouvèrent une grande humiliation, et reconnurent que l'oeuvre s'était accomplie par la volonté de notre Dieu. (Ⅱ)
- Factum est ergo cum audissent omnes inimici nostri, ut timerent universæ gentes quæ erant in circuitu nostro, et conciderent intra semetipsos, et scirent quod a Deo factum esset opus hoc. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 16 ׃6   ויהי כאשר שמעו כל אויבינו ויראו כל הגוים אשר סביבתינו ויפלו מאד בעיניהם וידעו כי מאת אלהינו נעשתה המלאכה הזאת ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 17  
Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.
- Dans ce temps-là, il y avait aussi des grands de Juda qui adressaient fréquemment des lettres à Tobija et qui en recevaient de lui. (Ⅱ)
- Sed et in diebus illis multæ optimatum Judæorum epistolæ mittebantur ad Tobiam, et a Tobia veniebant ad eos. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 17 ׃6   גם בימים ההם מרבים חרי יהודה אגרתיהם הולכות על טוביה ואשר לטוביה באות אליהם ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 18  
For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.
- Car plusieurs en Juda étaient liés à lui par serment, parce qu'il était gendre de Schecania, fils d'Arach, et que son fils Jochanan avait pris la fille de Meschullam, fils de Bérékia. (Ⅱ)
- Multi enim erant in Judæa habentes juramentum ejus, quia gener erat Secheniæ filii Area, et Johanan filius ejus acceperat filiam Mosollam filii Barachiæ : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 18 ׃6   כי רבים ביהודה בעלי שבועה לו כי חתן הוא לשכניה בן ארח ויהוחנן בנו לקח את בת משלם בן ברכיה ‬ (Ⅴ)
6. 19  
Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
- Ils disaient même du bien de lui en ma présence, et ils lui rapportaient mes paroles. Tobija envoyait des lettres pour m'effrayer. (Ⅱ)
- sed et laudabant eum coram me, et verba mea nuntiabant ei : et Tobias mittebat epistolas ut terreret me. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 19 ׃6   גם טובתיו היו אמרים לפני ודברי היו מוציאים לו אגרות שלח טוביה ליראני ‬ (Ⅴ)
