When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
- Mardochée, ayant appris tout ce qui se passait, déchira ses vêtements, s'enveloppa d'un sac et se couvrit de cendre. Puis il alla au milieu de la ville en poussant avec force des cris amers, (Ⅱ) - Quæ cum audisset Mardochæus, scidit vestimenta sua, et indutus est sacco, spargens cinerem capiti : et in platea mediæ civitatis voce magna clamabat, ostendens amaritudinem animi sui, (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃4 ומרדכי ידע את כל אשר נעשה ויקרע מרדכי את בגדיו וילבש שק ואפר ויצא בתוך העיר ויזעק זעקה גדלה ומרה (Ⅴ)

And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth.
- et se rendit jusqu'à la porte du roi, dont l'entrée était interdite à toute personne revêtue d'un sac. (Ⅱ) - et hoc ejulatu usque ad fores palatii gradiens. Non enim erat licitum indutum sacco aulam regis intrare. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃4 ויבוא עד לפני שער המלך כי אין לבוא אל שער המלך בלבוש שק (Ⅴ)

And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
- Dans chaque province, partout où arrivaient l'ordre du roi et son édit, il y eut une grande désolation parmi les Juifs; ils jeûnaient, pleuraient et se lamentaient, et beaucoup se couchaient sur le sac et la cendre. (Ⅱ) - In omnibus quoque provinciis, oppidis, ac locis, ad quæ crudele regis dogma pervenerat, planctus ingens erat apud Judæos, jejunium, ululatus, et fletus, sacco et cinere multis pro strato utentibus. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃4 ובכל מדינה ומדינה מקום אשר דבר המלך ודתו מגיע אבל גדול ליהודים וצום ובכי ומספד שק ואפר יצע לרבים (Ⅴ)

So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.
- Les servantes d'Esther et ses eunuques vinrent lui annoncer cela, et la reine fut très effrayée. Elle envoya des vêtements à Mardochée pour le couvrir et lui faire ôter son sac, mais il ne les accepta pas. (Ⅱ) - Ingressæ autem sunt puellæ Esther et eunuchi, nuntiaveruntque ei. Quod audiens consternata est, et vestem misit, ut ablato sacco induerent eum : quam accipere noluit. (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃4 ותבואינה[Q][n][q] נערות אסתר וסריסיה ויגידו לה ותתחלחל המלכה מאד ותשלח בגדים להלביש את מרדכי ולהסיר שקו מעליו ולא קבל (Ⅴ)

Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
- Alors Esther appela Hathac, l'un des eunuques que le roi avait placés auprès d'elle, et elle le chargea d'aller demander à Mardochée ce que c'était et d'où cela venait. (Ⅱ) - Accitoque Athach eunucho, quem rex ministrum ei dederat, præcepit ei ut iret ad Mardochæum, et disceret ab eo cur hoc faceret. (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃4 ותקרא אסתר להתך מסריסי המלך אשר העמיד לפניה ותצוהו על מרדכי לדעת מה זה ועל מה זה (Ⅴ)

So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate.
- Hathac se rendit vers Mardochée sur la place de la ville, devant la porte du roi. (Ⅱ) - Egressusque Athach, ivit ad Mardochæum stantem in platea civitatis, ante ostium palatii : (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃4 ויצא התך אל מרדכי אל רחוב העיר אשר לפני שער המלך (Ⅴ)

And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
- Et Mardochée lui raconta tout ce qui lui était arrivé, et lui indiqua la somme d'argent qu'Haman avait promis de livrer au trésor du roi en retour du massacre des Juifs. (Ⅱ) - qui indicavit ei omnia quæ acciderant : quomodo Aman promisisset ut in thesauros regis pro Judæorum nece inferret argentum. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃4 ויגד לו מרדכי את כל אשר קרהו ואת פרשת הכסף אשר אמר המן לשקול על גנזי המלך *ביהודיים **ביהודים[y] לאבדם (Ⅴ)

Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
- Il lui donna aussi une copie de l'édit publié dans Suse en vue de leur destruction, afin qu'il le montrât à Esther et lui fît tout connaître; et il ordonna qu'Esther se rendît chez le roi pour lui demander grâce et l'implorer en faveur de son peuple. (Ⅱ) - Exemplar quoque edicti, quod pendebat in Susan, dedit ei, ut reginæ ostenderet, et moneret eam ut intraret ad regem et deprecaretur eum pro populo suo.\ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃4 ואת פתשגן כתב הדת אשר נתן בשושן להשמידם נתן לו להראות את אסתר ולהגיד לה ולצוות עליה לבוא אל המלך להתחנן לו ולבקש מלפניו על עמה (Ⅴ)

And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
- Hathac vint rapporter à Esther les paroles de Mardochée. (Ⅱ) - Regressus Athach, nuntiavit Esther omnia quæ Mardochæus dixerat. (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃4 ויבוא התך ויגד לאסתר את דברי מרדכי (Ⅴ)

Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;
- Esther chargea Hathac d'aller dire à Mardochée: (Ⅱ) - Quæ respondit ei, et jussit ut diceret Mardochæo : (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃4 ותאמר אסתר להתך ותצוהו אל מרדכי (Ⅴ)

All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or women, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
- Tous les serviteurs du roi et le peuple des provinces du roi savent qu'il existe une loi portant peine de mort contre quiconque, homme ou femme, entre chez le roi, dans la cour intérieure, sans avoir été appelé; celui-là seul a la vie sauve, à qui le roi tend le sceptre d'or. Et moi, je n'ai point été appelée auprès du roi depuis trente jours. (Ⅱ) - Omnes servi regis, et cunctæ, quæ sub ditione ejus sunt, norunt provinciæ, quod sive vir, sive mulier non vocatus, interius atrium regis intraverit, absque ulla cunctatione statim interficiatur : nisi forte rex auream virgam ad eum tetenderit pro signo clementiæ, atque ita possit vivere. Ego igitur quomodo ad regem intrare potero, quæ triginta jam diebus non sum vocata ad eum ? (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃4 כל עבדי המלך ועם מדינות המלך יודעים אשר כל איש ואשה אשר יבוא אל המלך אל החצר הפנימית אשר לא יקרא אחת דתו להמית לבד מאשר יושיט לו המלך את שרביט הזהב וחיה ואני לא נקראתי[Q][n][v] לבוא אל המלך זה שלושים יום (Ⅴ)

And they told to Mordecai Esther's words.
- Lorsque les paroles d'Esther eurent été rapportées à Mardochée, (Ⅱ) - Quod cum audisset Mardochæus, (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃4 ויגידו למרדכי את דברי אסתר פ (Ⅴ)

Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.
- Mardochée fit répondre à Esther: Ne t'imagine pas que tu échapperas seule d'entre tous les Juifs, parce que tu es dans la maison du roi; (Ⅱ) - rursum mandavit Esther, dicens : Ne putes quod animam tuam tantum liberes, quia in domo regis es præ cunctis Judæis : (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃4 ויאמר מרדכי להשיב אל אסתר אל תדמי בנפשך להמלט בית המלך מכל היהודים (Ⅴ)

For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
- car, si tu te tais maintenant, le secours et la délivrance surgiront d'autre part pour les Juifs, et toi et la maison de ton père vous périrez. Et qui sait si ce n'est pas pour un temps comme celui-ci que tu es parvenue à la royauté? (Ⅱ) - si enim nunc silueris, per aliam occasionem liberabuntur Judæi : et tu, et domus patris tui, peribitis. Et quis novit utrum idcirco ad regnum veneris, ut in tali tempore parareris ? (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃4 כי אם החרש תחרישי בעת הזאת רוח והצלה יעמוד ליהודים ממקום אחר ואת ובית אביך תאבדו ומי יודע אם לעת כזאת הגעת למלכות (Ⅴ)

Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
- Esther envoya dire à Mardochée: (Ⅱ) - Rursumque Esther hæc Mardochæo verba mandavit : (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃4 ותאמר אסתר להשיב אל מרדכי (Ⅴ)

Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
- Va, rassemble tous les Juifs qui se trouvent à Suse, et jeûnez pour moi, sans manger ni boire pendant trois jours, ni la nuit ni le jour. Moi aussi, je jeûnerai de même avec mes servantes, puis j'entrerai chez le roi, malgré la loi; et si je dois périr, je périrai. (Ⅱ) - Vade, et congrega omnes Judæos quos in Susan repereris, et orate pro me. Non comedatis et non bibatis tribus diebus et tribus noctibus : et ego cum ancillis meis similiter jejunabo, et tunc ingrediar ad regem contra legem faciens, non vocata, tradensque me morti et periculo. (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃4 לך כנוס את כל היהודים הנמצאים בשושן וצומו עלי ואל תאכלו ואל תשתו שלשת ימים לילה ויום גם אני ונערתי אצום כן ובכן אבוא אל המלך אשר לא כדת וכאשר אבדתי אבדתי (Ⅴ)

So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
- Mardochée s'en alla, et fit tout ce qu'Esther lui avait ordonné. (Ⅱ) - Ivit itaque Mardochæus, et fecit omnia quæ ei Esther præceperat. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃4 ויעבר מרדכי ויעש ככל אשר צותה עליו אסתר ס (Ⅴ)
