28. 1  
Habet argentum venarum suarum principia,/ et auro locus est in quo conflatur./
- Il y a pour l'argent une mine d'où on le fait sortir, Et pour l'or un lieu d'où on l'extrait pour l'affiner; (Ⅱ)
- Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it. (Ⅲ)
- ἔστιν γὰρ ἀργυρίω̨ τόπος ὅθεν γίνεται τόπος δὲ χρυσίω̨ ὅθεν διηθει̃ται (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 1  ׃28  כי יש לכסף מוצא ומקום לזהב יזקו ‬ (Ⅴ)

Ferrum de terra tollitur,/ et lapis solutus calore in æs vertitur./
- Le fer se tire de la poussière, Et la pierre se fond pour produire l'airain. (Ⅱ)
- Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone. (Ⅲ)
- σίδηρος μὲν γὰρ ἐκ γη̃ς γίνεται χαλκὸς δὲ ἴσα λίθω̨ λατομει̃ται (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 2  ׃28  ברזל מעפר יקח ואבן יצוק נחושה ‬ (Ⅴ)

Tempus posuit tenebris,/ et universorum finem ipse considerat :/ lapidem quoque caliginis et umbram mortis./
- L'homme fait cesser les ténèbres; Il explore, jusque dans les endroits les plus profonds, Les pierres cachées dans l'obscurité et dans l'ombre de la mort. (Ⅱ)
- He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death. (Ⅲ)
- τάξιν ἔθετο σκότει καὶ πα̃ν πέρας αὐτὸς ἐξακριβάζεται λίθος σκοτία καὶ σκιὰ θανάτου (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 3  ׃28  קץ שם לחשך ולכל תכלית הוא חוקר אבן אפל וצלמות ‬ (Ⅴ)

Dividit torrens a populo peregrinante/ eos quos oblitus est pes egentis hominis, et invios./
- Il creuse un puits loin des lieux habités; Ses pieds ne lui sont plus en aide, Et il est suspendu, balancé, loin des humains. (Ⅱ)
- The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men. (Ⅲ)
- διακοπὴ χειμάρρου ἀπὸ κονίας οἱ δὲ ἐπιλανθανόμενοι ὁδὸν δικαίαν ἠσθένησαν ἐκ βροτω̃ν (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 4  ׃28  פרץ נחל מעם גר הנשכחים מני רגל דלו מאנוש נעו ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 5  
Terra de qua oriebatur panis,/ in loco suo igni subversa est./
- La terre, d'où sort le pain, Est bouleversée dans ses entrailles comme par le feu. (Ⅱ)
- As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire. (Ⅲ)
- γη̃ ἐξ αὐτη̃ς ἐξελεύσεται ἄρτος ὑποκάτω αὐτη̃ς ἐστράφη ὡσεὶ πυ̃ρ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 5  ׃28  ארץ ממנה יצא לחם ותחתיה נהפך כמו אש ‬ (Ⅴ)

Locus sapphiri lapides ejus,/ et glebæ illius aurum./
- Ses pierres contiennent du saphir, Et l'on y trouve de la poudre d'or. (Ⅱ)
- The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold. (Ⅲ)
- τόπος σαπφείρου οἱ λίθοι αὐτη̃ς καὶ χω̃μα χρυσίον αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 6  ׃28  מקום ספיר אבניה ועפרת זהב לו ‬ (Ⅴ)

Semitam ignoravit avis,/ nec intuitus est eam oculus vulturis./
- L'oiseau de proie n'en connaît pas le sentier, L'oeil du vautour ne l'a point aperçu; (Ⅱ)
- There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen: (Ⅲ)
- τρίβος οὐκ ἔγνω αὐτὴν πετεινόν καὶ οὐ παρέβλεψεν αὐτὴν ὀφθαλμὸς γυπός (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 7  ׃28  נתיב לא ידעו עיט ולא שזפתו עין איה ‬ (Ⅴ)

Non calcaverunt eam filii institorum,/ nec pertransivit per eam leæna./
- Les plus fiers animaux ne l'ont point foulé, Le lion n'y a jamais passé. (Ⅱ)
- The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it. (Ⅲ)
- οὐκ ἐπάτησαν αὐτὴν υἱοὶ ἀλαζόνων οὐ παρη̃λθεν ἐπ' αὐτη̃ς λέων (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 8  ׃28  לא הדריכהו בני שחץ לא עדה עליו שחל ‬ (Ⅴ)

Ad silicem extendit manum suam :/ subvertit a radicibus montes./
- L'homme porte sa main sur le roc, Il renverse les montagnes depuis la racine; (Ⅱ)
- He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots. (Ⅲ)
- ἐν ἀκροτόμω̨ ἐξέτεινεν χει̃ρα αὐτου̃ κατέστρεψεν δὲ ἐκ ῥιζω̃ν ὄρη (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 9  ׃28  בחלמיש שלח ידו הפך משרש הרים ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 10  
In petris rivos excidit,/ et omne pretiosum vidit oculus ejus./
- Il ouvre des tranchées dans les rochers, Et son oeil contemple tout ce qu'il y a de précieux; (Ⅱ)
- He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing. (Ⅲ)
- δίνας δὲ ποταμω̃ν ἔρρηξεν πα̃ν δὲ ἔντιμον εἰ̃δέν μου ὁ ὀφθαλμός (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 10 ׃28  בצורות יארים בקע וכל יקר ראתה עינו ‬ (Ⅴ)

Profunda quoque fluviorum scrutatus est,/ et abscondita in lucem produxit./
- Il arrête l'écoulement des eaux, Et il produit à la lumière ce qui est caché. (Ⅱ)
- He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light. (Ⅲ)
- βάθη δὲ ποταμω̃ν ἀνεκάλυψεν ἔδειξεν δὲ ἑαυτου̃ δύναμιν εἰς φω̃ς (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 11 ׃28  מבכי נהרות חבש ותעלמה‪[1]‬ יצא אור פ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 12  
Sapientia vero ubi invenitur ?/ et quis est locus intelligentiæ ?/
- Mais la sagesse, où se trouve-t-elle? Où est la demeure de l'intelligence? (Ⅱ)
- But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? (Ⅲ)
- ἡ δὲ σοφία πόθεν εὑρέθη ποι̃ος δὲ τόπος ἐστὶν τη̃ς ἐπιστήμης (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 12 ׃28  והחכמה מאין תמצא ואי זה מקום בינה ‬ (Ⅴ)

Nescit homo pretium ejus,/ nec invenitur in terra suaviter viventium./
- L'homme n'en connaît point le prix; Elle ne se trouve pas dans la terre des vivants. (Ⅱ)
- Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. (Ⅲ)
- οὐκ οἰ̃δεν βροτὸς ὁδὸν αὐτη̃ς οὐδὲ μὴ εὑρεθη̨̃ ἐν ἀνθρώποις (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 13 ׃28  לא ידע אנוש ערכה ולא תמצא בארץ החיים ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 14  
Abyssus dicit : Non est in me,/ et mare loquitur : Non est mecum./
- L'abîme dit: Elle n'est point en moi; Et la mer dit: Elle n'est point avec moi. (Ⅱ)
- The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me. (Ⅲ)
- ἄβυσσος εἰ̃πεν οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν ἐμοί καὶ θάλασσα εἰ̃πεν οὐκ ἔστιν μετ' ἐμου̃ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 14 ׃28  תהום אמר לא בי היא וים אמר אין עמדי ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 15  
Non dabitur aurum obrizum pro ea,/ nec appendetur argentum in commutatione ejus./
- Elle ne se donne pas contre de l'or pur, Elle ne s'achète pas au poids de l'argent; (Ⅱ)
- It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. (Ⅲ)
- οὐ δώσει συγκλεισμὸν ἀντ' αὐτη̃ς καὶ οὐ σταθήσεται ἀργύριον ἀντάλλαγμα αὐτη̃ς (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 15 ׃28  לא יתן סגור תחתיה ולא ישקל כסף מחירה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 16  
Non conferetur tinctis Indiæ coloribus,/ nec lapidi sardonycho pretiosissimo vel sapphiro./
- Elle ne se pèse pas contre l'or d'Ophir, Ni contre le précieux onyx, ni contre le saphir; (Ⅱ)
- It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. (Ⅲ)
- καὶ οὐ συμβασταχθήσεται χρυσίω̨ Ωφιρ ἐν ὄνυχι τιμίω̨ καὶ σαπφείρω̨ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 16 ׃28  לא תסלה בכתם אופיר בשהם יקר וספיר ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 17  
Non adæquabitur ei aurum vel vitrum,/ nec commutabuntur pro ea vasa auri./
- Elle ne peut se comparer à l'or ni au verre, Elle ne peut s'échanger pour un vase d'or fin. (Ⅱ)
- The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. (Ⅲ)
- οὐκ ἰσωθήσεται αὐτη̨̃ χρυσίον καὶ ὕαλος καὶ τὸ ἄλλαγμα αὐτη̃ς σκεύη χρυσα̃ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 17 ׃28  לא יערכנה זהב וזכוכית ותמורתה כלי פז ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 18  
Excelsa et eminentia non memorabuntur comparatione ejus :/ trahitur autem sapientia de occultis./
- Le corail et le cristal ne sont rien auprès d'elle: La sagesse vaut plus que les perles. (Ⅱ)
- No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. (Ⅲ)
- μετέωρα καὶ γαβις οὐ μνησθήσεται καὶ ἕλκυσον σοφίαν ὑπὲρ τὰ ἐσώτατα (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 18 ׃28  ראמות וגביש לא יזכר ומשך חכמה מפנינים ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 19  
Non adæquabitur ei topazius de Æthiopia,/ nec tincturæ mundissimæ componetur./
- La topaze d'Éthiopie n'est point son égale, Et l'or pur n'entre pas en balance avec elle. (Ⅱ)
- The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. (Ⅲ)
- οὐκ ἰσωθήσεται αὐτη̨̃ τοπάζιον Αἰθιοπίας χρυσίω̨ καθαρω̨̃ οὐ συμβασταχθήσεται (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 19 ׃28  לא יערכנה פטדת כוש בכתם טהור לא תסלה פ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 20  
Unde ergo sapientia venit ?/ et quis est locus intelligentiæ ?/
- D'où vient donc la sagesse? Où est la demeure de l'intelligence? (Ⅱ)
- Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? (Ⅲ)
- ἡ δὲ σοφία πόθεν εὑρέθη ποι̃ος δὲ τόπος ἐστὶν τη̃ς συνέσεως (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 20 ׃28  והחכמה מאין תבוא ואי זה מקום בינה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 21  
Abscondita est ab oculis omnium viventium :/ volucres quoque cæli latet./
- Elle est cachée aux yeux de tout vivant, Elle est cachée aux oiseaux du ciel. (Ⅱ)
- Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. (Ⅲ)
- λέληθεν πάντα ἄνθρωπον καὶ ἀπὸ πετεινω̃ν του̃ οὐρανου̃ ἐκρύβη (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 21 ׃28  ונעלמה מעיני כל חי ומעוף השמים נסתרה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 22  
Perditio et mors dixerunt :/ Auribus nostris audivimus famam ejus./
- Le gouffre et la mort disent: Nous en avons entendu parler. (Ⅱ)
- Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears. (Ⅲ)
- ἡ ἀπώλεια καὶ ὁ θάνατος εἰ̃παν ἀκηκόαμεν δὲ αὐτη̃ς τὸ κλέος (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 22 ׃28  אבדון ומות אמרו באזנינו שמענו שמעה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 23  
Deus intelligit viam ejus,/ et ipse novit locum illius./
- C'est Dieu qui en sait le chemin, C'est lui qui en connaît la demeure; (Ⅱ)
- God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof. (Ⅲ)
- ὁ θεὸς εὐ̃ συνέστησεν αὐτη̃ς τὴν ὁδόν αὐτὸς δὲ οἰ̃δεν τὸν τόπον αὐτη̃ς (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 23 ׃28  אלהים הבין דרכה והוא ידע את מקומה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 24  
Ipse enim fines mundi intuetur,/ et omnia quæ sub cælo sunt respicit./
- Car il voit jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre, Il aperçoit tout sous les cieux. (Ⅱ)
- For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven; (Ⅲ)
- αὐτὸς γὰρ τὴν ὑπ' οὐρανὸν πα̃σαν ἐφορα̨̃ εἰδὼς τὰ ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ πάντα ἃ ἐποίησεν (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 24 ׃28  כי הוא‪[c]‬ לקצות הארץ יביט תחת כל השמים יראה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 25  
Qui fecit ventis pondus,/ et aquas appendit in mensura./
- Quand il régla le poids du vent, Et qu'il fixa la mesure des eaux, (Ⅱ)
- To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure. (Ⅲ)
- ἀνέμων σταθμὸν ὕδατός τε μέτρα (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 25 ׃28  לעשות לרוח משקל ומים תכן במדה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 26  
Quando ponebat pluviis legem,/ et viam procellis sonantibus :/
- Quand il donna des lois à la pluie, Et qu'il traça la route de l'éclair et du tonnerre, (Ⅱ)
- When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: (Ⅲ)
- ὅτε ἐποίησεν οὕτως ὑετὸν ἠρίθμησεν καὶ ὁδὸν ἐν τινάγματι φωνάς (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 26 ׃28  בעשתו‪[v]‬ למטר חק ודרך לחזיז קלות ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 27  
tunc vidit illam et enarravit,/ et præparavit, et investigavit./
- Alors il vit la sagesse et la manifesta, Il en posa les fondements et la mit à l'épreuve. (Ⅱ)
- Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. (Ⅲ)
- τότε εἰ̃δεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἐξηγήσατο αὐτήν ἑτοιμάσας ἐξιχνίασεν (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 27 ׃28  אז ראה ויספרה הכינה וגם חקרה ‬ (Ⅴ)
28. 28  
Et dixit homini : Ecce timor Domini, ipsa est sapientia ;/ et recedere a malo, intelligentia.]
- Puis il dit à l'homme: Voici, la crainte du Seigneur, c'est la sagesse; S'éloigner du mal, c'est l'intelligence. (Ⅱ)
- And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. (Ⅲ)
- εἰ̃πεν δὲ ἀνθρώπω̨ ἰδοὺ ἡ θεοσέβειά ἐστιν σοφία τὸ δὲ ἀπέχεσθαι ἀπὸ κακω̃ν ἐστιν ἐπιστήμη (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 28 ׃28  ויאמר לאדם הן יראת אדני היא חכמה וסור מרע בינה ס‬ (Ⅴ)
