Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
- Voici, j'ouvre la bouche, Ma langue se remue dans mon palais. (Ⅱ) - ἰδοὺ γὰρ ἤνοιξα τὸ στόμα μου καὶ ἐλάλησεν ἡ γλω̃σσά μου (Ⅲ) - Ecce aperui os meum :/ loquatur lingua mea in faucibus meis./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃33 הנה נא פתחתי פי דברה לשוני בחכי (Ⅴ)

My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
- C'est avec droiture de coeur que je vais parler, C'est la vérité pure qu'exprimeront mes lèvres: (Ⅱ) - καθαρά μου ἡ καρδία ῥήμασιν σύνεσις δὲ χειλέων μου καθαρὰ νοήσει (Ⅲ) - Simplici corde meo sermones mei,/ et sententiam puram labia mea loquentur./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃33 ישר לבי אמרי ודעת שפתי ברור מללו (Ⅴ)

The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
- L'esprit de Dieu m'a créé, Et le souffle du Tout Puissant m'anime. (Ⅱ) - πνευ̃μα θει̃ον τὸ ποιη̃σάν με πνοὴ δὲ παντοκράτορος ἡ διδάσκουσά με (Ⅲ) - Spiritus Dei fecit me,/ et spiraculum Omnipotentis vivificavit me./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃33 רוח אל עשתני ונשמת שדי תחיני (Ⅴ)

If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
- Si tu le peux, réponds-moi, Défends ta cause, tiens-toi prêt! (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν δύνη̨ δός μοι ἀπόκρισιν πρὸς ταυ̃τα ὑπόμεινον στη̃θι κατ' ἐμὲ καὶ ἐγὼ κατὰ σέ (Ⅲ) - Si potes, responde mihi,/ et adversus faciem meam consiste./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃33 אם תוכל השיבני ערכה לפני התיצבה (Ⅴ)

Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
- Devant Dieu je suis ton semblable, J'ai été comme toi formé de la boue; (Ⅱ) - ἐκ πηλου̃ διήρτισαι σὺ ὡς καὶ ἐγώ ἐκ του̃ αὐτου̃ διηρτίσμεθα (Ⅲ) - Ecce, et me sicut et te fecit Deus,/ et de eodem luto ego quoque formatus sum./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃33 הן אני כפיך לאל מחמר קרצתי גם אני (Ⅴ)

Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
- Ainsi mes terreurs ne te troubleront pas, Et mon poids ne saurait t'accabler. (Ⅱ) - οὐχ ὁ φόβος μού σε στροβήσει οὐδὲ ἡ χείρ μου βαρει̃α ἔσται ἐπὶ σοί (Ⅲ) - Verumtamen miraculum meum non te terreat,/ et eloquentia mea non sit tibi gravis./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃33 הנה אמתי לא תבעתך ואכפי עליך לא יכבד (Ⅴ)

Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
- Mais tu as dit à mes oreilles, Et j'ai entendu le son de tes paroles: (Ⅱ) - πλὴν εἰ̃πας ἐν ὠσίν μου φωνὴν ῥημάτων σου ἀκήκοα (Ⅲ) - Dixisti ergo in auribus meis,/ et vocem verborum tuorum audivi :/ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃33 אך אמרת באזני וקול מלין אשמע (Ⅴ)

I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
- Je suis pur, je suis sans péché, Je suis net, il n'y a point en moi d'iniquité. (Ⅱ) - διότι λέγεις καθαρός εἰμι οὐχ ἁμαρτών ἄμεμπτος δέ εἰμι οὐ γὰρ ἠνόμησα (Ⅲ) - Mundus sum ego, et absque delicto :/ immaculatus, et non est iniquitas in me./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃33 זך אני בלי פשע חף אנכי ולא עון לי (Ⅴ)

Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
- Et Dieu trouve contre moi des motifs de haine, Il me traite comme son ennemi; (Ⅱ) - μέμψιν δὲ κατ' ἐμου̃ εὑ̃ρεν ἥγηται δέ με ὥσπερ ὑπεναντίον (Ⅲ) - Quia querelas in me reperit,/ ideo arbitratus est me inimicum sibi./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃33 הן תנואות עלי ימצא יחשבני לאויב לו (Ⅴ)

He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
- Il met mes pieds dans les ceps, Il surveille tous mes mouvements. (Ⅱ) - ἔθετο δὲ ἐν ξύλω̨ τὸν πόδα μου ἐφύλαξεν δέ μου πάσας τὰς ὁδούς (Ⅲ) - Posuit in nervo pedes meos ;/ custodivit omnes semitas meas./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃33 ישם בסד רגלי ישמר כל ארחתי (Ⅴ)

Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
- Je te répondrai qu'en cela tu n'as pas raison, Car Dieu est plus grand que l'homme. (Ⅱ) - πω̃ς γὰρ λέγεις δίκαιός εἰμι καὶ οὐκ ἐπακήκοέν μου αἰώνιος γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ἐπάνω βροτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Hoc est ergo in quo non es justificatus :/ respondebo tibi, quia major sit Deus homine./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃33 הן זאת לא צדקת אענך כי ירבה אלוה מאנוש (Ⅴ)

Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
- Veux-tu donc disputer avec lui, Parce qu'il ne rend aucun compte de ses actes? (Ⅱ) - λέγεις δέ διὰ τί τη̃ς δίκης μου οὐκ ἐπακήκοεν πα̃ν ῥη̃μα (Ⅲ) - Adversus eum contendis,/ quod non ad omnia verba responderit tibi ?/ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃33 מדוע אליו ריבות כי כל דבריו לא יענה (Ⅴ)

For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
- Dieu parle cependant, tantôt d'une manière, Tantôt d'une autre, et l'on n'y prend point garde. (Ⅱ) - ἐν γὰρ τω̨̃ ἅπαξ λαλήσαι ὁ κύριος ἐν δὲ τω̨̃ δευτέρω̨ ἐνύπνιον (Ⅲ) - Semel loquitur Deus,/ et secundo idipsum non repetit./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃33 כי באחת ידבר אל ובשתים לא ישורנה (Ⅴ)

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
- Il parle par des songes, par des visions nocturnes, Quand les hommes sont livrés à un profond sommeil, Quand ils sont endormis sur leur couche. (Ⅱ) - ἢ ἐν μελέτη̨ νυκτερινη̨̃ ὡς ὅταν ἐπιπίπτη̨ δεινὸς φόβος ἐπ' ἀνθρώπους ἐπὶ νυσταγμάτων ἐπὶ κοίτης (Ⅲ) - Per somnium, in visione nocturna,/ quando irruit sopor super homines,/ et dormiunt in lectulo,/ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃33 בחלום חזיון לילה בנפל תרדמה על אנשים בתנומות עלי משכב (Ⅴ)

Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
- Alors il leur donne des avertissements Et met le sceau à ses instructions, (Ⅱ) - τότε ἀνακαλύπτει νου̃ν ἀνθρώπων ἐν εἴδεσιν φόβου τοιούτοις αὐτοὺς ἐξεφόβησεν (Ⅲ) - tunc aperit aures virorum,/ et erudiens eos instruit disciplina,/ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃33 אז יגלה אזן אנשים ובמסרם יחתם (Ⅴ)

That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
- Afin de détourner l'homme du mal Et de le préserver de l'orgueil, (Ⅱ) - ἀποστρέψαι ἄνθρωπον ἐξ ἀδικίας τὸ δὲ σω̃μα αὐτου̃ ἀπὸ πτώματος ἐρρύσατο (Ⅲ) - ut avertat hominem ab his quæ facit,/ et liberet eum de superbia,/ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃33 להסיר אדם מעשה וגוה מגבר יכסה (Ⅴ)

He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
- Afin de garantir son âme de la fosse Et sa vie des coups du glaive. (Ⅱ) - ἐφείσατο δὲ τη̃ς ψυχη̃ς αὐτου̃ ἀπὸ θανάτου καὶ μὴ πεσει̃ν αὐτὸν ἐν πολέμω̨ (Ⅲ) - eruens animam ejus a corruptione,/ et vitam illius ut non transeat in gladium./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃33 יחשך נפשו מני שחת וחיתו מעבר בשלח (Ⅴ)

He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
- Par la douleur aussi l'homme est repris sur sa couche, Quand une lutte continue vient agiter ses os. (Ⅱ) - πάλιν δὲ ἤλεγξεν αὐτὸν ἐν μαλακία̨ ἐπὶ κοίτης καὶ πλη̃θος ὀστω̃ν αὐτου̃ ἐνάρκησεν (Ⅲ) - Increpat quoque per dolorem in lectulo,/ et omnia ossa ejus marcescere facit./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃33 והוכח במכאוב על משכבו *וריב **ורוב עצמיו אתן (Ⅴ)

So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
- Alors il prend en dégoût le pain, Même les aliments les plus exquis; (Ⅱ) - πα̃ν δὲ βρωτὸν σίτου οὐ μὴ δύνηται προσδέξασθαι καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτου̃ βρω̃σιν ἐπιθυμήσει (Ⅲ) - Abominabilis ei fit in vita sua panis,/ et animæ illius cibus ante desiderabilis./ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃33 וזהמתו חיתו לחם ונפשו מאכל תאוה (Ⅴ)

His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
- Sa chair se consume et disparaît, Ses os qu'on ne voyait pas sont mis à nu; (Ⅱ) - ἕως ἂν σαπω̃σιν αὐτου̃ αἱ σάρκες καὶ ἀποδείξη̨ τὰ ὀστα̃ αὐτου̃ κενά (Ⅲ) - Tabescet caro ejus,/ et ossa, quæ tecta fuerant, nudabuntur./ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃33 יכל בשרו מראי *ושפי **ושפו עצמותיו לא ראו (Ⅴ)

Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
- Son âme s'approche de la fosse, Et sa vie des messagers de la mort. (Ⅱ) - ἤγγισεν δὲ εἰς θάνατον ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτου̃ ἡ δὲ ζωὴ αὐτου̃ ἐν ἅ̨δη̨ (Ⅲ) - Appropinquavit corruptioni anima ejus,/ et vita illius mortiferis./ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃33 ותקרב לשחת נפשו וחיתו לממתים (Ⅴ)

If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
- Mais s'il se trouve pour lui un ange intercesseur, Un d'entre les mille Qui annoncent à l'homme la voie qu'il doit suivre, (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν ὠ̃σιν χίλιοι ἄγγελοι θανατηφόροι εἱ̃ς αὐτω̃ν οὐ μὴ τρώση̨ αὐτόν ἐὰν νοήση̨ τη̨̃ καρδία̨ ἐπιστραφη̃ναι ἐπὶ κύριον ἀναγγείλη̨ δὲ ἀνθρώπω̨ τὴν ἑαυτου̃ μέμψιν τὴν δὲ ἄνοιαν αὐτου̃ δείξη̨ (Ⅲ) - Si fuerit pro eo angelus loquens,/ unus de millibus, ut annuntiet hominis æquitatem,/ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃33 אם יש עליו מלאך מליץ אחד מני אלף להגיד לאדם ישרו (Ⅴ)

Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
- Dieu a compassion de lui et dit à l'ange: Délivre-le, afin qu'il ne descende pas dans la fosse; J'ai trouvé une rançon! (Ⅱ) - ἀνθέξεται του̃ μὴ πεσει̃ν αὐτὸν εἰς θάνατον ἀνανεώσει δὲ αὐτου̃ τὸ σω̃μα ὥσπερ ἀλοιφὴν ἐπὶ τοίχου τὰ δὲ ὀστα̃ αὐτου̃ ἐμπλήσει μυελου̃ (Ⅲ) - miserebitur ejus, et dicet :/ Libera eum, ut non descendat in corruptionem :/ inveni in quo ei propitier./ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃33 ויחננו ויאמר פדעהו מרדת שחת מצאתי כפר (Ⅴ)

His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:
- Et sa chair a plus de fraîcheur qu'au premier âge, Il revient aux jours de sa jeunesse. (Ⅱ) - ἁπαλυνει̃ δὲ αὐτου̃ τὰς σάρκας ὥσπερ νηπίου ἀποκαταστήσει δὲ αὐτὸν ἀνδρωθέντα ἐν ἀνθρώποις (Ⅲ) - Consumpta est caro ejus a suppliciis :/ revertatur ad dies adolescentiæ suæ./ (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃33 רטפש בשרו מנער ישוב לימי עלומיו (Ⅴ)

He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
- Il adresse à Dieu sa prière; et Dieu lui est propice, Lui laisse voir sa face avec joie, Et lui rend son innocence. (Ⅱ) - εὐξάμενος δὲ πρὸς κύριον καὶ δεκτὰ αὐτω̨̃ ἔσται εἰσελεύσεται δὲ προσώπω̨ καθαρω̨̃ σὺν ἐξηγορία̨ ἀποδώσει δὲ ἀνθρώποις δικαιοσύνην (Ⅲ) - Deprecabitur Deum, et placabilis ei erit :/ et videbit faciem ejus in jubilo,/ et reddet homini justitiam suam./ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃33 יעתר אל אלוה וירצהו וירא פניו בתרועה וישב לאנוש צדקתו (Ⅴ)

He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
- Il chante devant les hommes et dit: J'ai péché, j'ai violé la justice, Et je n'ai pas été puni comme je le méritais; (Ⅱ) - εἰ̃τα τότε ἀπομέμψεται ἄνθρωπος αὐτὸς ἑαυτω̨̃ λέγων οἱ̃α συνετέλουν καὶ οὐκ ἄξια ἤτασέν με ὡ̃ν ἥμαρτον (Ⅲ) - Respiciet homines, et dicet : Peccavi,/ et vere deliqui, et ut eram dignus, non recepi./ (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃33 ישר על אנשים ויאמר חטאתי וישר העויתי ולא שוה לי (Ⅴ)

He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
- Dieu a délivré mon âme pour qu'elle n'entrât pas dans la fosse, Et ma vie s'épanouit à la lumière! (Ⅱ) - σω̃σον ψυχήν μου του̃ μὴ ἐλθει̃ν εἰς διαφθοράν καὶ ἡ ζωή μου φω̃ς ὄψεται (Ⅲ) - Liberavit animam suam, ne pergeret in interitum,/ sed vivens lucem videret./ (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃33 פדה *נפשי **נפשו מעבר בשחת *וחיתי **וחיתו באור תראה (Ⅴ)

Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
- Voilà tout ce que Dieu fait, Deux fois, trois fois, avec l'homme, (Ⅱ) - ἰδοὺ πάντα ταυ̃τα ἐργα̃ται ὁ ἰσχυρὸς ὁδοὺς τρει̃ς μετὰ ἀνδρός (Ⅲ) - Ecce hæc omnia operatur Deus/ tribus vicibus per singulos,/ (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃33 הן כל אלה יפעל אל פעמים שלוש עם גבר (Ⅴ)

To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
- Pour ramener son âme de la fosse, Pour l'éclairer de la lumière des vivants. (Ⅱ) - ἀλλ' ἐρρύσατο τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐκ θανάτου ἵνα ἡ ζωή μου ἐν φωτὶ αἰνη̨̃ αὐτόν (Ⅲ) - ut revocet animas eorum a corruptione,/ et illuminet luce viventium./ (Ⅳ) - 30 ׃33 להשיב נפשו מני שחת לאור באור החיים (Ⅴ)

Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
- Sois attentif, Job, écoute-moi! Tais-toi, et je parlerai! (Ⅱ) - ἐνωτίζου Ιωβ καὶ ἄκουέ μου κώφευσον καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι λαλήσω (Ⅲ) - Attende, Job, et audi me :/ et tace, dum ego loquor./ (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃33 הקשב איוב שמע לי החרש ואנכי אדבר (Ⅴ)

If thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
- Si tu as quelque chose à dire, réponds-moi! Parle, car je voudrais te donner raison. (Ⅱ) - εἰ εἰσὶν λόγοι ἀποκρίθητί μοι λάλησον θέλω γὰρ δικαιωθη̃ναί σε (Ⅲ) - Si autem habes quod loquaris, responde mihi :/ loquere, volo enim te apparere justum./ (Ⅳ) - 32 ׃33 אם יש מלין השיבני דבר כי חפצתי צדקך (Ⅴ)

If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
- Si tu n'as rien à dire, écoute-moi! Tais-toi, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse. (Ⅱ) - εἰ μή σὺ ἄκουσόν μου κώφευσον καὶ διδάξω σε σοφίαν (Ⅲ) - Quod si non habes, audi me :/ tace, et docebo te sapientiam.] (Ⅳ) - 33 ׃33 אם אין אתה שמע לי החרש ואאלפך חכמה ס (Ⅴ)
