Jusqu'à quand veux-tu discourir de la sorte, Et les paroles de ta bouche seront-elles un vent impétueux?
- How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind? (Ⅱ) - μέχρι τίνος λαλήσεις ταυ̃τα πνευ̃μα πολυρη̃μον του̃ στόματός σου (Ⅲ) - Usquequo loqueris talia,/ et spiritus multiplex sermones oris tui ?/ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃8 עד אן תמלל אלה ורוח כביר אמרי פיך (Ⅴ)

Dieu renverserait-il le droit? Le Tout Puissant renverserait-il la justice?
- Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice? (Ⅱ) - μὴ ὁ κύριος ἀδικήσει κρίνων ἢ ὁ τὰ πάντα ποιήσας ταράξει τὸ δίκαιον (Ⅲ) - Numquid Deus supplantat judicium ?/ aut Omnipotens subvertit quod justum est ?/ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃8 האל יעות משפט ואם שדי יעות צדק (Ⅴ)

Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, Il les a livrés à leur péché.
- If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression; (Ⅱ) - εἰ οἱ υἱοί σου ἥμαρτον ἐναντίον αὐτου̃ ἀπέστειλεν ἐν χειρὶ ἀνομίας αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Etiam si filii tui peccaverunt ei,/ et dimisit eos in manu iniquitatis suæ :/ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃8 אם בניך חטאו לו וישלחם ביד פשעם (Ⅴ)

Mais toi, si tu as recours à Dieu, Si tu implores le Tout Puissant;
- If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; (Ⅱ) - σὺ δὲ ὄρθριζε πρὸς κύριον παντοκράτορα δεόμενος (Ⅲ) - tu tamen si diluculo consurrexeris ad Deum,/ et Omnipotentem fueris deprecatus ;/ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃8 אם אתה תשחר אל אל ואל שדי תתחנן (Ⅴ)

Si tu es juste et droit, Certainement alors il veillera sur toi, Et rendra le bonheur à ton innocente demeure;
- If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. (Ⅱ) - εἰ καθαρὸς εἰ̃ καὶ ἀληθινός δεήσεως ἐπακούσεταί σου ἀποκαταστήσει δέ σοι δίαιταν δικαιοσύνης (Ⅲ) - si mundus et rectus incesseris :/ statim evigilabit ad te,/ et pacatum reddet habitaculum justitiæ tuæ,/ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃8 אם זך וישר אתה כי עתה יעיר עליך ושלם נות צדקך (Ⅴ)

Ton ancienne prospérité semblera peu de chose, Celle qui t'est réservée sera bien plus grande.
- Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. (Ⅱ) - ἔσται οὐ̃ν τὰ μὲν πρω̃τά σου ὀλίγα τὰ δὲ ἔσχατά σου ἀμύθητα (Ⅲ) - in tantum ut si priora tua fuerint parva,/ et novissima tua multiplicentur nimis./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃8 והיה ראשיתך מצער ואחריתך ישגה מאד (Ⅴ)

Interroge ceux des générations passées, Sois attentif à l'expérience de leurs pères.
- For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: (Ⅱ) - ἐπερώτησον γὰρ γενεὰν πρώτην ἐξιχνίασον δὲ κατὰ γένος πατέρων (Ⅲ) - Interroga enim generationem pristinam,/ et diligenter investiga patrum memoriam/ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃8 כי שאל נא לדר רישון וכונן לחקר אבותם (Ⅴ)

Car nous sommes d'hier, et nous ne savons rien, Nos jours sur la terre ne sont qu'une ombre.
- (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) (Ⅱ) - χθιζοὶ γάρ ἐσμεν καὶ οὐκ οἴδαμεν σκιὰ γάρ ἐστιν ἡμω̃ν ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς ὁ βίος (Ⅲ) - (hesterni quippe sumus, et ignoramus,/ quoniam sicut umbra dies nostri sunt super terram),/ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃8 כי תמול אנחנו ולא נדע כי צל ימינו עלי ארץ (Ⅴ)

Ils t'instruiront, ils te parleront, Ils tireront de leur coeur ces sentences:
- Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart? (Ⅱ) - ἠ̃ οὐχ οὑ̃τοί σε διδάξουσιν καὶ ἀναγγελου̃σιν καὶ ἐκ καρδίας ἐξάξουσιν ῥήματα (Ⅲ) - et ipsi docebunt te, loquentur tibi,/ et de corde suo proferent eloquia./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃8 הלא הם יורוך יאמרו לך ומלבם יוצאו מלים (Ⅴ)

Le jonc croît-il sans marais? Le roseau croît-il sans humidité?
- Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? (Ⅱ) - μὴ θάλλει πάπυρος ἄνευ ὕδατος ἢ ὑψωθήσεται βούτομον ἄνευ πότου (Ⅲ) - Numquid vivere potest scirpus absque humore ?/ aut crescere carectum sine aqua ?/ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃8 היגאה גמא בלא בצה ישגה אחו בלי מים (Ⅴ)

Encore vert et sans qu'on le coupe, Il sèche plus vite que toutes les herbes.
- Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb. (Ⅱ) - ἔτι ὂν ἐπὶ ῥίζης καὶ οὐ μὴ θερισθη̨̃ πρὸ του̃ πιει̃ν πα̃σα βοτάνη οὐχὶ ξηραίνεται (Ⅲ) - Cum adhuc sit in flore, nec carpatur manu,/ ante omnes herbas arescit./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃8 עדנו באבו לא יקטף ולפני כל חציר ייבש (Ⅴ)

Ainsi arrive-t-il à tous ceux qui oublient Dieu, Et l'espérance de l'impie périra.
- So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: (Ⅱ) - οὕτως τοίνυν ἔσται τὰ ἔσχατα πάντων τω̃ν ἐπιλανθανομένων του̃ κυρίου ἐλπὶς γὰρ ἀσεβου̃ς ἀπολει̃ται (Ⅲ) - Sic viæ omnium qui obliviscuntur Deum,/ et spes hypocritæ peribit./ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃8 כן ארחות כל שכחי אל ותקות חנף תאבד (Ⅴ)

Son assurance est brisée, Son soutien est une toile d'araignée.
- Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. (Ⅱ) - ἀοίκητος γὰρ αὐτου̃ ἔσται ὁ οἰ̃κος ἀράχνη δὲ αὐτου̃ ἀποβήσεται ἡ σκηνή (Ⅲ) - Non ei placebit vecordia sua,/ et sicut tela aranearum fiducia ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃8 אשר יקוט כסלו ובית עכביש מבטחו (Ⅴ)

Il s'appuie sur sa maison, et elle n'est pas ferme; Il s'y cramponne, et elle ne résiste pas.
- He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν ὑπερείση̨ τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτου̃ οὐ μὴ στη̨̃ ἐπιλαβομένου δὲ αὐτου̃ οὐ μὴ ὑπομείνη̨ (Ⅲ) - Innitetur super domum suam, et non stabit ;/ fulciet eam, et non consurget./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃8 ישען על ביתו ולא יעמד יחזיק בו ולא יקום (Ⅴ)

Dans toute sa vigueur, en plein soleil, Il étend ses rameaux sur son jardin,
- He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. (Ⅱ) - ὑγρὸς γάρ ἐστιν ὑπὸ ἡλίου καὶ ἐκ σαπρίας αὐτου̃ ὁ ῥάδαμνος αὐτου̃ ἐξελεύσεται (Ⅲ) - Humectus videtur antequam veniat sol,/ et in ortu suo germen ejus egredietur./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃8 רטב הוא[c] לפני שמש ועל גנתו ינקתו[c] תצא (Ⅴ)

Il entrelace ses racines parmi les pierres, Il pénètre jusque dans les murailles;
- His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones. (Ⅱ) - ἐπὶ συναγωγὴν λίθων κοιμα̃ται ἐν δὲ μέσω̨ χαλίκων ζήσεται (Ⅲ) - Super acervum petrarum radices ejus densabuntur,/ et inter lapides commorabitur./ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃8 על גל שרשיו יסבכו בית אבנים יחזה (Ⅴ)

L'arrache-t-on du lieu qu'il occupe, Ce lieu le renie: Je ne t'ai point connu!
- If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee. (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν καταπίη̨ ὁ τόπος ψεύσεται αὐτόν οὐχ ἑόρακας τοιαυ̃τα (Ⅲ) - Si absorbuerit eum de loco suo,/ negabit eum, et dicet : Non novi te./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃8 אם יבלענו ממקומו וכחש בו לא ראיתיך (Ⅴ)

Telles sont les délices que ses voies lui procurent. Puis sur le même sol d'autres s'élèvent après lui.
- Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι καταστροφὴ ἀσεβου̃ς τοιαύτη ἐκ δὲ γη̃ς ἄλλον ἀναβλαστήσει (Ⅲ) - Hæc est enim lætitia viæ ejus,/ ut rursum de terra alii germinentur./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃8 הן הוא משוש דרכו ומעפר אחר יצמחו (Ⅴ)

Non, Dieu ne rejette point l'homme intègre, Et il ne protège point les méchants.
- Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers: (Ⅱ) - ὁ γὰρ κύριος οὐ μὴ ἀποποιήσηται τὸν ἄκακον πα̃ν δὲ δω̃ρον ἀσεβου̃ς οὐ δέξεται (Ⅲ) - Deus non projiciet simplicem,/ nec porriget manum malignis,/ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃8 הן אל לא ימאס תם ולא יחזיק ביד מרעים (Ⅴ)

Il remplira ta bouche de cris de joie, Et tes lèvres de chants d'allégresse.
- Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. (Ⅱ) - ἀληθινω̃ν δὲ στόμα ἐμπλήσει γέλωτος τὰ δὲ χείλη αὐτω̃ν ἐξομολογήσεως (Ⅲ) - donec impleatur risu os tuum,/ et labia tua jubilo./ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃8 עד ימלה שחוק פיך ושפתיך תרועה (Ⅴ)

Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte; La tente des méchants disparaîtra.
- They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought. (Ⅱ) - οἱ δὲ ἐχθροὶ αὐτω̃ν ἐνδύσονται αἰσχύνην δίαιτα δὲ ἀσεβου̃ς οὐκ ἔσται (Ⅲ) - Qui oderunt te induentur confusione,/ et tabernaculum impiorum non subsistet.] (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃8 שנאיך ילבשו בשת ואהל רשעים איננו פ (Ⅴ)
