4. 1  
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
- Écoutez, mes fils, l'instruction d'un père, Et soyez attentifs, pour connaître la sagesse; (Ⅱ)
- ἀκούσατε παι̃δες παιδείαν πατρὸς καὶ προσέχετε γνω̃ναι ἔννοιαν (Ⅲ)
- Audite, filii, disciplinam patris,/ et attendite ut sciatis prudentiam./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 1  ׃4   שמעו בנים מוסר אב והקשיבו לדעת בינה ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 2  
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
- Car je vous donne de bons conseils: Ne rejetez pas mon enseignement. (Ⅱ)
- δω̃ρον γὰρ ἀγαθὸν δωρου̃μαι ὑμι̃ν τὸν ἐμὸν νόμον μὴ ἐγκαταλίπητε (Ⅲ)
- Donum bonum tribuam vobis :/ legem meam ne derelinquatis./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 2  ׃4   כי לקח טוב נתתי לכם תורתי אל תעזבו ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 3  
For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
- J'étais un fils pour mon père, Un fils tendre et unique auprès de ma mère. (Ⅱ)
- υἱὸς γὰρ ἐγενόμην κἀγὼ πατρὶ ὑπήκοος καὶ ἀγαπώμενος ἐν προσώπω̨ μητρός (Ⅲ)
- Nam et ego filius fui patris mei,/ tenellus et unigenitus coram matre mea./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 3  ׃4   כי בן הייתי לאבי רך ויחיד לפני אמי ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 4  
He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
- Il m'instruisait alors, et il me disait: Que ton coeur retienne mes paroles; Observe mes préceptes, et tu vivras. (Ⅱ)
- οἳ ἔλεγον καὶ ἐδίδασκόν με ἐρειδέτω ὁ ἡμέτερος λόγος εἰς σὴν καρδίαν (Ⅲ)
- Et docebat me, atque dicebat :/ Suscipiat verba mea cor tuum ;/ custodi præcepta mea, et vives./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 4  ׃4   וירני ויאמר לי יתמך דברי לבך שמר מצותי וחיה ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 5  
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
- Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers l'intelligence; N'oublie pas les paroles de ma bouche, et ne t'en détourne pas. (Ⅱ)
- φύλασσε ἐντολάς μὴ ἐπιλάθη̨ μηδὲ παρίδη̨ς ῥη̃σιν ἐμου̃ στόματος (Ⅲ)
- Posside sapientiam, posside prudentiam :/ ne obliviscaris, neque declines a verbis oris mei./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 5  ׃4   קנה חכמה קנה בינה אל תשכח ואל תט מאמרי פי ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 6  
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
- Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera; Aime-la, et elle te protégera. (Ⅱ)
- μηδὲ ἐγκαταλίπη̨ς αὐτήν καὶ ἀνθέξεταί σου ἐράσθητι αὐτη̃ς καὶ τηρήσει σε (Ⅲ)
- Ne dimittas eam, et custodiet te :/ dilige eam, et conservabit te./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 6  ׃4   אל תעזבה ותשמרך אהבה ותצרך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 7  
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
- Voici le commencement de la sagesse: Acquiers la sagesse, Et avec tout ce que tu possèdes acquiers l'intelligence. (Ⅱ)
- Principium sapientiæ : posside sapientiam,/ et in omni possessione tua acquire prudentiam./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 7  ׃4   ראשית חכמה קנה חכמה ובכל קנינך קנה בינה ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 8  
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
- Exalte-la, et elle t'élèvera; Elle fera ta gloire, si tu l'embrasses; (Ⅱ)
- περιχαράκωσον αὐτήν καὶ ὑψώσει σε τίμησον αὐτήν ἵνα σε περιλάβη̨ (Ⅲ)
- Arripe illam, et exaltabit te ;/ glorificaberis ab ea cum eam fueris amplexatus./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 8  ׃4   סלסלה ותרוממך תכבדך כי תחבקנה ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 9  
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
- Elle mettra sur ta tête une couronne de grâce, Elle t'ornera d'un magnifique diadème. (Ⅱ)
- ἵνα δω̨̃ τη̨̃ ση̨̃ κεφαλη̨̃ στέφανον χαρίτων στεφάνω̨ δὲ τρυφη̃ς ὑπερασπίση̨ σου (Ⅲ)
- Dabit capiti tuo augmenta gratiarum,/ et corona inclyta proteget te.]\ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 9  ׃4   תתן לראשך לוית חן עטרת תפארת תמגנך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 10  
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
- Écoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles; Et les années de ta vie se multiplieront. (Ⅱ)
- ἄκουε υἱέ καὶ δέξαι ἐμοὺς λόγους καὶ πληθυνθήσεται ἔτη ζωη̃ς σου ἵνα σοι γένωνται πολλαὶ ὁδοὶ βίου (Ⅲ)
- Audi, fili mi, et suscipe verba mea,/ ut multiplicentur tibi anni vitæ./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 10 ׃4   שמע בני וקח אמרי וירבו לך שנות חיים ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 11  
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
- Je te montre la voie de la sagesse, Je te conduis dans les sentiers de la droiture. (Ⅱ)
- ὁδοὺς γὰρ σοφίας διδάσκω σε ἐμβιβάζω δέ σε τροχιαι̃ς ὀρθαι̃ς (Ⅲ)
- Viam sapientiæ monstrabo tibi ;/ ducam te per semitas æquitatis :/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 11 ׃4   בדרך חכמה הרתיך הדרכתיך במעגלי ישר ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 12  
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
- Si tu marches, ton pas ne sera point gêné; Et si tu cours, tu ne chancelleras point. (Ⅱ)
- ἐὰν γὰρ πορεύη̨ οὐ συγκλεισθήσεταί σου τὰ διαβήματα ἐὰν δὲ τρέχη̨ς οὐ κοπιάσεις (Ⅲ)
- quas cum ingressus fueris, non arctabuntur gressus tui,/ et currens non habebis offendiculum./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 12 ׃4   בלכתך לא יצר צעדך ואם תרוץ לא תכשל ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 13  
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
- Retiens l'instruction, ne t'en dessaisis pas; Garde-la, car elle est ta vie. (Ⅱ)
- ἐπιλαβου̃ ἐμη̃ς παιδείας μὴ ἀφη̨̃ς ἀλλὰ φύλαξον αὐτὴν σεαυτω̨̃ εἰς ζωήν σου (Ⅲ)
- Tene disciplinam, ne dimittas eam ;/ custodi illam, quia ipsa est vita tua./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 13 ׃4   החזק במוסר אל תרף נצרה כי היא חייך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 14  
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
- N'entre pas dans le sentier des méchants, Et ne marche pas dans la voie des hommes mauvais. (Ⅱ)
- ὁδοὺς ἀσεβω̃ν μὴ ἐπέλθη̨ς μηδὲ ζηλώση̨ς ὁδοὺς παρανόμων (Ⅲ)
- Ne delecteris in semitis impiorum,/ nec tibi placeat malorum via./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 14 ׃4   בארח רשעים אל תבא ואל תאשר בדרך רעים ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 15  
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
- Évite-la, n'y passe point; Détourne-t'en, et passe outre. (Ⅱ)
- ἐν ὡ̨̃ ἂν τόπω̨ στρατοπεδεύσωσιν μὴ ἐπέλθη̨ς ἐκει̃ ἔκκλινον δὲ ἀπ' αὐτω̃ν καὶ παράλλαξον (Ⅲ)
- Fuge ab ea, nec transeas per illam ;/ declina, et desere eam./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 15 ׃4   פרעהו אל תעבר בו שטה מעליו ועבור ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 16  
For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
- Car ils ne dormiraient pas s'ils n'avaient fait le mal, Le sommeil leur serait ravi s'ils n'avaient fait tomber personne; (Ⅱ)
- οὐ γὰρ μὴ ὑπνώσωσιν ἐὰν μὴ κακοποιήσωσιν ἀφή̨ρηται ὁ ὕπνος αὐτω̃ν καὶ οὐ κοιμω̃νται (Ⅲ)
- Non enim dormiunt nisi malefecerint,/ et rapitur somnus ab eis nisi supplantaverint./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 16 ׃4   כי לא ישנו אם לא ירעו ונגזלה שנתם אם לא *יכשולו **יכשילו ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 17  
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
- Car c'est le pain de la méchanceté qu'ils mangent, C'est le vin de la violence qu'ils boivent. (Ⅱ)
- οἵδε γὰρ σιτου̃νται σι̃τα ἀσεβείας οἴνω̨ δὲ παρανόμω̨ μεθύσκονται (Ⅲ)
- Comedunt panem impietatis,/ et vinum iniquitatis bibunt./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 17 ׃4   כי לחמו לחם רשע ויין חמסים ישתו ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 18  
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
- Le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante, Dont l'éclat va croissant jusqu'au milieu du jour. (Ⅱ)
- αἱ δὲ ὁδοὶ τω̃ν δικαίων ὁμοίως φωτὶ λάμπουσιν προπορεύονται καὶ φωτίζουσιν ἕως κατορθώση̨ ἡ ἡμέρα (Ⅲ)
- Justorum autem semita quasi lux splendens procedit,/ et crescit usque ad perfectam diem./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 18 ׃4   וארח צדיקים כאור נגה הולך ואור עד נכון היום ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 19  
The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
- La voie des méchants est comme les ténèbres; Ils n'aperçoivent pas ce qui les fera tomber. (Ⅱ)
- αἱ δὲ ὁδοὶ τω̃ν ἀσεβω̃ν σκοτειναί οὐκ οἴδασιν πω̃ς προσκόπτουσιν (Ⅲ)
- Via impiorum tenebrosa ;/ nesciunt ubi corruant./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 19 ׃4   דרך רשעים כאפלה לא ידעו במה יכשלו פ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 20  
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
- Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, Prête l'oreille à mes discours. (Ⅱ)
- υἱέ ἐμη̨̃ ῥήσει πρόσεχε τοι̃ς δὲ ἐμοι̃ς λόγοις παράβαλε σὸν οὐ̃ς (Ⅲ)
- Fili mi, ausculta sermones meos,/ et ad eloquia mea inclina aurem tuam./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 20 ׃4   בני לדברי הקשיבה לאמרי הט אזנך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 21  
Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
- Qu'ils ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux; Garde-les dans le fond de ton coeur; (Ⅱ)
- ὅπως μὴ ἐκλίπωσίν σε αἱ πηγαί σου φύλασσε αὐτὰς ἐν ση̨̃ καρδία̨ (Ⅲ)
- Ne recedant ab oculis tuis :/ custodi ea in medio cordis tui :/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 21 ׃4   אל יליזו מעיניך שמרם בתוך לבבך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 22  
For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
- Car c'est la vie pour ceux qui les trouvent, C'est la santé pour tout leur corps. (Ⅱ)
- ζωὴ γάρ ἐστιν τοι̃ς εὑρίσκουσιν αὐτὰς καὶ πάση̨ σαρκὶ ἴασις (Ⅲ)
- vita enim sunt invenientibus ea,/ et universæ carni sanitas./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 22 ׃4   כי חיים הם למצאיהם ולכל בשרו מרפא ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 23  
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
- Garde ton coeur plus que toute autre chose, Car de lui viennent les sources de la vie. (Ⅱ)
- πάση̨ φυλακη̨̃ τήρει σὴν καρδίαν ἐκ γὰρ τούτων ἔξοδοι ζωη̃ς (Ⅲ)
- Omni custodia serva cor tuum,/ quia ex ipso vita procedit./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 23 ׃4   מכל משמר נצר לבך כי ממנו תוצאות חיים ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 24  
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
- Écarte de ta bouche la fausseté, Éloigne de tes lèvres les détours. (Ⅱ)
- περίελε σεαυτου̃ σκολιὸν στόμα καὶ ἄδικα χείλη μακρὰν ἀπὸ σου̃ ἄπωσαι (Ⅲ)
- Remove a te os pravum,/ et detrahentia labia sint procul a te./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 24 ׃4   הסר ממך עקשות פה ולזות שפתים הרחק ממך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 25  
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
- Que tes yeux regardent en face, Et que tes paupières se dirigent devant toi. (Ⅱ)
- οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ὀρθὰ βλεπέτωσαν τὰ δὲ βλέφαρά σου νευέτω δίκαια (Ⅲ)
- Oculi tui recta videant,/ et palpebræ tuæ præcedant gressus tuos./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 25 ׃4   עיניך לנכח יביטו ועפעפיך יישרו נגדך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 26  
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
- Considère le chemin par où tu passes, Et que toutes tes voies soient bien réglées; (Ⅱ)
- ὀρθὰς τροχιὰς ποίει σοι̃ς ποσὶν καὶ τὰς ὁδούς σου κατεύθυνε (Ⅲ)
- Dirige semitam pedibus tuis,/ et omnes viæ tuæ stabilientur./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 26 ׃4   פלס מעגל רגלך וכל דרכיך יכנו ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 27  
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
- N'incline ni à droite ni à gauche, Et détourne ton pied du mal. (Ⅱ)
- μὴ ἐκκλίνη̨ς εἰς τὰ δεξιὰ μηδὲ εἰς τὰ ἀριστερά ἀπόστρεψον δὲ σὸν πόδα ἀπὸ ὁδου̃ κακη̃ς (Ⅲ)
- Ne declines ad dexteram neque ad sinistram ;/ averte pedem tuum a malo :/ vias enim quæ a dextris sunt novit Dominus :/ perversæ vero sunt quæ a sinistris sunt./ Ipse autem rectos faciet cursus tuos,/ itinera autem tua in pace producet.] (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 27 ׃4   אל תט ימין ושמאול הסר רגלך מרע ‬ (Ⅴ)
