5. 1  
My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
- Mon fils, sois attentif à ma sagesse, Prête l'oreille à mon intelligence, (Ⅱ)
- υἱέ ἐμη̨̃ σοφία̨ πρόσεχε ἐμοι̃ς δὲ λόγοις παράβαλλε σὸν οὐ̃ς (Ⅲ)
- Fili mi, attende ad sapientiam meam,/ et prudentiæ meæ inclina aurem tuam :/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 1  ׃5   בני לחכמתי הקשיבה לתבונתי הט אזנך ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 2  
That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
- Afin que tu conserves la réflexion, Et que tes lèvres gardent la connaissance. (Ⅱ)
- ἵνα φυλάξη̨ς ἔννοιαν ἀγαθήν αἴσθησιν δὲ ἐμω̃ν χειλέων ἐντέλλομαί σοι (Ⅲ)
- ut custodias cogitationes, et disciplinam labia tua conservent./ Ne attendas fallaciæ mulieris ;/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 2  ׃5   לשמר מזמות ודעת שפתיך ינצרו ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 3  
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
- Car les lèvres de l'étrangère distillent le miel, Et son palais est plus doux que l'huile; (Ⅱ)
- μὴ πρόσεχε φαύλη̨ γυναικί μέλι γὰρ ἀποστάζει ἀπὸ χειλέων γυναικὸς πόρνης ἣ πρὸς καιρὸν λιπαίνει σὸν φάρυγγα (Ⅲ)
- favus enim distillans labia meretricis,/ et nitidius oleo guttur ejus :/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 3  ׃5   כי נפת תטפנה שפתי זרה וחלק משמן חכה ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 4  
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
- Mais à la fin elle est amère comme l'absinthe, Aiguë comme un glaive à deux tranchants. (Ⅱ)
- ὕστερον μέντοι πικρότερον χολη̃ς εὑρήσεις καὶ ἠκονημένον μα̃λλον μαχαίρας διστόμου (Ⅲ)
- novissima autem illius amara quasi absinthium,/ et acuta quasi gladius biceps./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 4  ׃5   ואחריתה מרה כלענה חדה כחרב פיות ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 5  
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
- Ses pieds descendent vers la mort, Ses pas atteignent le séjour des morts. (Ⅱ)
- τη̃ς γὰρ ἀφροσύνης οἱ πόδες κατάγουσιν τοὺς χρωμένους αὐτη̨̃ μετὰ θανάτου εἰς τὸν ἅ̨δην τὰ δὲ ἴχνη αὐτη̃ς οὐκ ἐρείδεται (Ⅲ)
- Pedes ejus descendunt in mortem,/ et ad inferos gressus illius penetrant./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 5  ׃5   רגליה ירדות מות שאול צעדיה יתמכו ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 6  
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
- Afin de ne pas considérer le chemin de la vie, Elle est errante dans ses voies, elle ne sait où elle va. (Ⅱ)
- ὁδοὺς γὰρ ζωη̃ς οὐκ ἐπέρχεται σφαλεραὶ δὲ αἱ τροχιαὶ αὐτη̃ς καὶ οὐκ εὔγνωστοι (Ⅲ)
- Per semitam vitæ non ambulant ;/ vagi sunt gressus ejus et investigabiles./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 6  ׃5   ארח חיים פן תפלס נעו מעגלתיה לא תדע פ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 7  
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
- Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi, Et ne vous écartez pas des paroles de ma bouche. (Ⅱ)
- νυ̃ν οὐ̃ν υἱέ ἄκουέ μου καὶ μὴ ἀκύρους ποιήση̨ς ἐμοὺς λόγους (Ⅲ)
- Nunc ergo fili mi, audi me,/ et ne recedas a verbis oris mei./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 7  ׃5   ועתה בנים שמעו לי ואל תסורו מאמרי פי ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 8  
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
- Éloigne-toi du chemin qui conduit chez elle, Et ne t'approche pas de la porte de sa maison, (Ⅱ)
- μακρὰν ποίησον ἀπ' αὐτη̃ς σὴν ὁδόν μὴ ἐγγίση̨ς πρὸς θύραις οἴκων αὐτη̃ς (Ⅲ)
- Longe fac ab ea viam tuam,/ et ne appropinques foribus domus ejus./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 8  ׃5   הרחק מעליה דרכך ואל תקרב אל פתח ביתה ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 9  
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
- De peur que tu ne livres ta vigueur à d'autres, Et tes années à un homme cruel; (Ⅱ)
- ἵνα μὴ πρόη̨ ἄλλοις ζωήν σου καὶ σὸν βίον ἀνελεήμοσιν (Ⅲ)
- Ne des alienis honorem tuum,/ et annos tuos crudeli :/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 9  ׃5   פן תתן לאחרים הודך ושנתיך לאכזרי ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 10  
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
- De peur que des étrangers ne se rassasient de ton bien, Et du produit de ton travail dans la maison d'autrui; (Ⅱ)
- ἵνα μὴ πλησθω̃σιν ἀλλότριοι ση̃ς ἰσχύος οἱ δὲ σοὶ πόνοι εἰς οἴκους ἀλλοτρίων εἰσέλθωσιν (Ⅲ)
- ne forte implentur extranei viribus tuis,/ et labores tui sint in domo aliena,/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 10 ׃5   פן ישבעו זרים כחך ועצביך בבית נכרי ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 11  
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
- De peur que tu ne gémisses, près de ta fin, Quand ta chair et ton corps se consumeront, (Ⅱ)
- καὶ μεταμεληθήση̨ ἐπ' ἐσχάτων ἡνίκα ἂν κατατριβω̃σιν σάρκες σώματός σου (Ⅲ)
- et gemas in novissimis,/ quando consumpseris carnes tuas et corpus tuum,/ et dicas : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 11 ׃5   ונהמת באחריתך בכלות בשרך ושארך ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 12  
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
- Et que tu ne dises: Comment donc ai-je pu haïr la correction, Et comment mon coeur a-t-il dédaigné la réprimande? (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐρει̃ς πω̃ς ἐμίσησα παιδείαν καὶ ἐλέγχους ἐξέκλινεν ἡ καρδία μου (Ⅲ)
- Cur detestatus sum disciplinam,/ et increpationibus non acquievit cor meum,/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 12 ׃5   ואמרת איך שנאתי מוסר ותוכחת נאץ לבי ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 13  
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
- Comment ai-je pu ne pas écouter la voix de mes maîtres, Ne pas prêter l'oreille à ceux qui m'instruisaient? (Ⅱ)
- οὐκ ἤκουον φωνὴν παιδεύοντός με καὶ διδάσκοντός με οὐδὲ παρέβαλλον τὸ οὐ̃ς μου (Ⅲ)
- nec audivi vocem docentium me,/ et magistris non inclinavi aurem meam ?/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 13 ׃5   ולא שמעתי בקול מורי ולמלמדי לא הטיתי אזני ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 14  
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
- Peu s'en est fallu que je n'aie éprouvé tous les malheurs Au milieu du peuple et de l'assemblée. (Ⅱ)
- παρ' ὀλίγον ἐγενόμην ἐν παντὶ κακω̨̃ ἐν μέσω̨ ἐκκλησίας καὶ συναγωγη̃ς (Ⅲ)
- pene fui in omni malo,/ in medio ecclesiæ et synagogæ./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 14 ׃5   כמעט הייתי בכל רע בתוך קהל ועדה ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 15  
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
- Bois les eaux de ta citerne, Les eaux qui sortent de ton puits. (Ⅱ)
- πι̃νε ὕδατα ἀπὸ σω̃ν ἀγγείων καὶ ἀπὸ σω̃ν φρεάτων πηγη̃ς (Ⅲ)
- Bibe aquam de cisterna tua,/ et fluenta putei tui ;/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 15 ׃5   שתה מים מבורך ונזלים מתוך בארך ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 16  
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
- Tes sources doivent-elles se répandre au dehors? Tes ruisseaux doivent ils couler sur les places publiques? (Ⅱ)
- μὴ ὑπερεκχείσθω σοι τὰ ὕδατα ἐκ τη̃ς ση̃ς πηγη̃ς εἰς δὲ σὰς πλατείας διαπορευέσθω τὰ σὰ ὕδατα (Ⅲ)
- deriventur fontes tui foras,/ et in plateis aquas tuas divide./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 16 ׃5   יפוצו מעינתיך חוצה ברחבות פלגי מים ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 17  
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
- Qu'ils soient pour toi seul, Et non pour des étrangers avec toi. (Ⅱ)
- ἔστω σοι μόνω̨ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ μηδεὶς ἀλλότριος μετασχέτω σοι (Ⅲ)
- Habeto eas solus,/ nec sint alieni participes tui./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 17 ׃5   יהיו לך לבדך ואין לזרים אתך ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 18  
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
- Que ta source soit bénie, Et fais ta joie de la femme de ta jeunesse, (Ⅱ)
- ἡ πηγή σου του̃ ὕδατος ἔστω σοι ἰδία καὶ συνευφραίνου μετὰ γυναικὸς τη̃ς ἐκ νεότητός σου (Ⅲ)
- Sit vena tua benedicta,/ et lætare cum muliere adolescentiæ tuæ./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 18 ׃5   יהי מקורך ברוך ושמח מאשת נעורך ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 19  
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
- Biche des amours, gazelle pleine de grâce: Sois en tout temps enivré de ses charmes, Sans cesse épris de son amour. (Ⅱ)
- ἔλαφος φιλίας καὶ πω̃λος σω̃ν χαρίτων ὁμιλείτω σοι ἡ δὲ ἰδία ἡγείσθω σου καὶ συνέστω σοι ἐν παντὶ καιρω̨̃ ἐν γὰρ τη̨̃ ταύτης φιλία̨ συμπεριφερόμενος πολλοστὸς ἔση̨ (Ⅲ)
- Cerva carissima, et gratissimus hinnulus :/ ubera ejus inebrient te in omni tempore ;/ in amore ejus delectare jugiter./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 19 ׃5   אילת אהבים ויעלת חן דדיה ירוך בכל עת באהבתה תשגה תמיד ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 20  
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
- Et pourquoi, mon fils, serais-tu épris d'une étrangère, Et embrasserais-tu le sein d'une inconnue? (Ⅱ)
- μὴ πολὺς ἴσθι πρὸς ἀλλοτρίαν μηδὲ συνέχου ἀγκάλαις τη̃ς μὴ ἰδίας (Ⅲ)
- Quare seduceris, fili mi, ab aliena,/ et foveris in sinu alterius ?/ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 20 ׃5   ולמה תשגה בני בזרה ותחבק חק נכריה ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 21  
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
- Car les voies de l'homme sont devant les yeux de l'Éternel, Qui observe tous ses sentiers. (Ⅱ)
- ἐνώπιον γάρ εἰσιν τω̃ν του̃ θεου̃ ὀφθαλμω̃ν ὁδοὶ ἀνδρός εἰς δὲ πάσας τὰς τροχιὰς αὐτου̃ σκοπεύει (Ⅲ)
- Respicit Dominus vias hominis,/ et omnes gressus ejus considerat./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 21 ׃5   כי נכח עיני יהוה דרכי איש וכל מעגלתיו מפלס ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 22  
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
- Le méchant est pris dans ses propres iniquités, Il est saisi par les liens de son péché. (Ⅱ)
- παρανομίαι ἄνδρα ἀγρεύουσιν σειραι̃ς δὲ τω̃ν ἑαυτου̃ ἁμαρτιω̃ν ἕκαστος σφίγγεται (Ⅲ)
- Iniquitates suas capiunt impium,/ et funibus peccatorum suorum constringitur./ (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 22 ׃5   עוונותיו‪[U]‬ ילכדנו את הרשע ובחבלי חטאתו יתמך ‬ (Ⅴ)
5. 23  
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
- Il mourra faute d'instruction, Il chancellera par l'excès de sa folie. (Ⅱ)
- οὑ̃τος τελευτα̨̃ μετὰ ἀπαιδεύτων ἐκ δὲ πλήθους τη̃ς ἑαυτου̃ βιότητος ἐξερρίφη καὶ ἀπώλετο δι' ἀφροσύνην (Ⅲ)
- Ipse morietur, quia non habuit disciplinam,/ et in multitudine stultitiæ suæ decipietur.] (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 23 ׃5   הוא ימות באין מוסר וברב אולתו ישגה פ‬ (Ⅴ)
