Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.
- La quatorzième année du roi Ézéchias, Sanchérib, roi d'Assyrie, monta contre toutes les villes fortes de Juda et s'en empara. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγένετο του̃ τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτου ἔτους βασιλεύοντος Εζεκιου ἀνέβη Σενναχηριμ βασιλεὺς 'Ασσυρίων ἐπὶ τὰς πόλεις τη̃ς Ιουδαίας τὰς ὀχυρὰς καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτάς (Ⅲ) - Et factum est in quartodecimo anno regis Ezechiæ, ascendit Sennacherib, rex Assyriorum, super omnes civitates Juda munitas, et cepit eas. (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃36 ויהי בארבע עשרה שנה למלך חזקיהו עלה סנחריב מלך אשור על כל ערי יהודה הבצרות ויתפשם (Ⅴ)

And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.
- Et le roi d'Assyrie envoya de Lakis à Jérusalem, vers le roi Ézéchias, Rabschaké avec une puissante armée. Rabschaké s'arrêta à l'aqueduc de l'étang supérieur, sur le chemin du champ du foulon. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπέστειλεν βασιλεὺς 'Ασσυρίων Ραψακην ἐκ Λαχις εἰς Ιερουσαλημ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Εζεκιαν μετὰ δυνάμεως πολλη̃ς καὶ ἔστη ἐν τω̨̃ ὑδραγωγω̨̃ τη̃ς κολυμβήθρας τη̃ς ἄνω ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ του̃ ἀγρου̃ του̃ γναφέως (Ⅲ) - Et misit rex Assyriorum Rabsacen de Lachis in Jerusalem, ad regem Ezechiam in manu gravi : et stetit in aquæductu piscinæ superioris in via Agri fullonis. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃36 וישלח מלך אשור את רב שקה מלכיש ירושלמה אל המלך חזקיהו בחיל כבד ויעמד בתעלת הברכה העליונה במסלת שדה כובס (Ⅴ)

Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph's son, the recorder.
- Alors Éliakim, fils de Hilkija, chef de la maison du roi, se rendit auprès de lui, avec Schebna, le secrétaire, et Joach, fils d'Asaph, l'archiviste. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ελιακιμ ὁ του̃ Χελκιου ὁ οἰκονόμος καὶ Σομνας ὁ γραμματεὺς καὶ Ιωαχ ὁ του̃ Ασαφ ὁ ὑπομνηματογράφος (Ⅲ) - Et egressus est ad eum Eliacim, filius Helciæ, qui erat super domum, et Sobna scriba, et Joahe filius Asaph, a commentariis. And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
- Rabschaké leur dit: Dites à Ézéchias: Ainsi parle le grand roi, le roi d'Assyrie: Quelle est cette confiance, sur laquelle tu t'appuies? (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς Ραψακης εἴπατε Εζεκια τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεὺς ὁ μέγας βασιλεὺς 'Ασσυρίων τί πεποιθὼς εἰ̃ (Ⅲ) - Et dixit ad eos Rabsaces : Dicite Ezechiæ : Hæc dicit rex magnus, rex Assyriorum : Quæ est ista fiducia qua confidis ? (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃36 ויאמר אליהם רב שקה אמרו נא אל חזקיהו כה אמר המלך הגדול מלך אשור מה הבטחון הזה אשר בטחת (Ⅴ)

I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
- Je te le dis, ce ne sont que des paroles en l'air: il faut pour la guerre de la prudence et de la force. En qui donc as-tu placé ta confiance, pour t'être révolté contre moi? (Ⅱ) - μὴ ἐν βουλη̨̃ ἢ λόγοις χειλέων παράταξις γίνεται καὶ νυ̃ν ἐπὶ τίνι πέποιθας ὅτι ἀπειθει̃ς μοι (Ⅲ) - aut quo consilio vel fortitudine rebellare disponis ? super quem habes fiduciam, quia recessisti a me ? (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃36 אמרתי אך דבר שפתים עצה וגבורה למלחמה עתה על מי בטחת כי מרדת בי (Ⅴ)

Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
- Voici, tu l'as placée dans l'Égypte, tu as pris pour soutien ce roseau cassé, qui pénètre et perce la main de quiconque s'appuie dessus: tel est Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, pour tous ceux qui se confient en lui. (Ⅱ) - ἰδοὺ πεποιθὼς εἰ̃ ἐπὶ τὴν ῥάβδον τὴν καλαμίνην τὴν τεθλασμένην ταύτην ἐπ' Αἴγυπτον ὃς ἂν ἐπ' αὐτὴν ἐπιστηρισθη̨̃ εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν χει̃ρα αὐτου̃ οὕτως ἐστὶν Φαραω βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου καὶ πάντες οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπ' αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Ecce confidis super baculum arundineum confractum istum, super Ægyptum ; cui si innixus fuerit homo, intrabit in manum ejus, et perforabit eam : sic Pharao, rex Ægypti, omnibus qui confidunt in eo. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃36 הנה בטחת על משענת הקנה הרצוץ הזה על מצרים אשר יסמך איש עליו ובא בכפו ונקבה כן פרעה מלך מצרים לכל הבטחים עליו (Ⅴ)

But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
- Peut-être me diras-tu: C'est en l'Éternel, notre Dieu, que nous nous confions. Mais n'est-ce pas lui dont Ézéchias a fait disparaître les hauts lieux et les autels, en disant à Juda et à Jérusalem: Vous vous prosternerez devant cet autel? (Ⅱ) - εἰ δὲ λέγετε ἐπὶ κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμω̃ν πεποίθαμεν (Ⅲ) - Quod si responderis mihi : In Domino Deo nostro confidimus ; nonne ipse est cujus abstulit Ezechias excelsa et altaria, et dixit Judæ et Jerusalem : Coram altari isto adorabitis ? (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃36 וכי תאמר אלי אל יהוה אלהינו בטחנו הלוא הוא אשר הסיר חזקיהו את במתיו ואת מזבחתיו ויאמר ליהודה ולירושלם לפני המזבח הזה תשתחוו (Ⅴ)

Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
- Maintenant, fais une convention avec mon maître, le roi d'Assyrie, et je te donnerai deux mille chevaux, si tu peux fournir des cavaliers pour les monter. (Ⅱ) - νυ̃ν μείχθητε τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου τω̨̃ βασιλει̃ 'Ασσυρίων καὶ δώσω ὑμι̃ν δισχιλίαν ἵππον εἰ δυνήσεσθε δου̃ναι ἀναβάτας ἐπ' αὐτούς (Ⅲ) - Et nunc trade te domino meo, regi Assyriorum, et dabo tibi duo millia equorum, nec poteris ex te præbere ascensores eorum : (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃36 ועתה התערב נא את אדני המלך אשור ואתנה לך אלפים סוסים אם תוכל לתת לך רכבים עליהם (Ⅴ)

How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
- Comment repousserais-tu un seul chef d'entre les moindres serviteurs de mon maître? Tu mets ta confiance dans l'Égypte pour les chars et pour les cavaliers. (Ⅱ) - καὶ πω̃ς δύνασθε ἀποστρέψαι εἰς πρόσωπον τοπάρχου ἑνός οἰκέται εἰσὶν οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπ' Αἰγυπτίοις εἰς ἵππον καὶ ἀναβάτην (Ⅲ) - et quomodo sustinebis faciem judicis unius loci ex servis domini mei minoribus ? Quod si confidis in Ægypto, in quadrigis et in equitibus, (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃36 ואיך תשיב את פני פחת אחד עבדי אדני הקטנים ותבטח לך על מצרים לרכב ולפרשים (Ⅴ)

And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
- D'ailleurs, est-ce sans la volonté de l'Éternel que je suis monté contre ce pays pour le détruire? L'Éternel m'a dit: Monte contre ce pays, et détruis-le. (Ⅱ) - καὶ νυ̃ν μὴ ἄνευ κυρίου ἀνέβημεν ἐπὶ τὴν χώραν ταύτην πολεμη̃σαι αὐτήν (Ⅲ) - et nunc numquid sine Domino ascendi ad terram istam, ut disperderem eam ? Dominus dixit ad me : Ascende super terram istam, et disperde eam.\ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃36 ועתה המבלעדי יהוה עליתי על הארץ הזאת להשחיתה יהוה אמר אלי עלה אל הארץ הזאת והשחיתה (Ⅴ)

Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
- Éliakim, Schebna et Joach dirent à Rabschaké: Parle à tes serviteurs en araméen, car nous le comprenons; et ne nous parle pas en langue judaïque aux oreilles du peuple qui est sur la muraille. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ελιακιμ καὶ Σομνας καὶ Ιωαχ λάλησον πρὸς τοὺς παι̃δάς σου Συριστί ἀκούομεν γὰρ ἡμει̃ς καὶ μὴ λάλει πρὸς ἡμα̃ς Ιουδαϊστί καὶ ἵνα τί λαλει̃ς εἰς τὰ ὠ̃τα τω̃ν ἀνθρώπων τω̃ν ἐπὶ τω̨̃ τείχει (Ⅲ) - Et dixit Eliacim, et Sobna, et Joahe, ad Rabsacen : Loquere ad servos tuos syra lingua ; intelligimus enim ; ne loquaris ad nos judaice in auribus populi qui est super murum. (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃36 ויאמר אליקים ושבנא ויואח אל רב שקה דבר נא אל עבדיך ארמית כי שמעים אנחנו ואל תדבר אלינו יהודית באזני העם אשר על החומה (Ⅴ)

But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
- Rabschaké répondit: Est-ce à ton maître et à toi que mon maître m'a envoyé dire ces paroles? N'est-ce pas à ces hommes assis sur la muraille pour manger leurs excréments et pour boire leur urine avec vous? (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ραψακης πρὸς αὐτούς μὴ πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὑμω̃ν ἢ πρὸς ὑμα̃ς ἀπέσταλκέν με ὁ κύριός μου λαλη̃σαι τοὺς λόγους τούτους οὐχὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἀνθρώπους τοὺς καθημένους ἐπὶ τω̨̃ τείχει ἵνα φάγωσιν κόπρον καὶ πίωσιν οὐ̃ρον μεθ' ὑμω̃ν ἅμα (Ⅲ) - Et dixit ad eos Rabsaces : Numquid ad dominum tuum et ad te misit me dominus meus, ut loquerer omnia verba ista ? et non potius ad viros qui sedent in muro, ut comedant stercora sua, et bibant urinam pedum suorum vobiscum ? (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃36 ויאמר רב שקה האל אדניך ואליך שלחני אדני לדבר את הדברים האלה הלא על האנשים הישבים על החומה לאכל את *חראיהם **צואתם ולשתות את *שיניהם **מימי **רגליהם עמכם (Ⅴ)

Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
- Puis Rabschaké s'avança et cria de toute sa force en langue judaïque: Écoutez les paroles du grand roi, du roi d'Assyrie! (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔστη Ραψακης καὶ ἐβόησεν φωνη̨̃ μεγάλη̨ Ιουδαϊστὶ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἀκούσατε τοὺς λόγους του̃ βασιλέως του̃ μεγάλου βασιλέως 'Ασσυρίων (Ⅲ) - Et stetit Rabsaces, et clamavit voce magna judaice, et dixit : Audite verba regis magni, regis Assyriorum ! (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃36 ויעמד רב שקה ויקרא בקול גדול יהודית ויאמר שמעו את דברי המלך הגדול מלך אשור (Ⅴ)

Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
- Ainsi parle le roi: Qu'Ézéchias ne vous abuse point, car il ne pourra vous délivrer. (Ⅱ) - τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεύς μὴ ἀπατάτω ὑμα̃ς Εζεκιας λόγοις οἳ οὐ δυνήσονται ῥύσασθαι ὑμα̃ς (Ⅲ) - Hæc dicit rex : Non seducat vos Ezechias, quia non poterit eruere vos. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃36 כה אמר המלך אל ישא לכם חזקיהו כי לא יוכל להציל אתכם (Ⅴ)

Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
- Qu'Ézéchias ne vous amène point à vous confier en l'Éternel, en disant: L'Éternel nous délivrera, cette ville ne sera pas livrée entre les mains du roi d'Assyrie. (Ⅱ) - καὶ μὴ λεγέτω ὑμι̃ν Εζεκιας ὅτι ῥύσεται ὑμα̃ς ὁ θεός καὶ οὐ μὴ παραδοθη̨̃ ἡ πόλις αὕτη ἐν χειρὶ βασιλέως 'Ασσυρίων (Ⅲ) - Et non vobis tribuat fiduciam Ezechias super Domino, dicens : Eruens liberabit nos Dominus : non dabitur civitas ista in manu regis Assyriorum. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃36 ואל יבטח אתכם חזקיהו אל יהוה לאמר הצל יצילנו יהוה לא תנתן העיר הזאת ביד מלך אשור (Ⅴ)

Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;
- N'écoutez point Ézéchias; car ainsi parle le roi d'Assyrie: Faites la paix avec moi, rendez-vous à moi, et chacun de vous mangera de sa vigne et de son figuier, et chacun boira de l'eau de sa citerne, (Ⅱ) - μὴ ἀκούετε Εζεκιου τάδε λέγει ὁ βασιλεὺς 'Ασσυρίων εἰ βούλεσθε εὐλογηθη̃ναι ἐκπορεύεσθε πρός με καὶ φάγεσθε ἕκαστος τὴν ἄμπελον αὐτου̃ καὶ τὰς συκα̃ς καὶ πίεσθε ὕδωρ του̃ λάκκου ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Nolite audire Ezechiam ; hæc enim dicit rex Assyriorum : Facite mecum benedictionem, et egredimini ad me, et comedite unusquisque vineam suam, et unusquisque ficum suam, et bibite unusquisque aquam cisternæ suæ, (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃36 אל תשמעו אל חזקיהו סכי כה אמר המלך אשור עשו אתי ברכה וצאו אלי ואכלו איש גפנו ואיש תאנתו ושתו איש מי בורו (Ⅴ)

Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
- jusqu'à ce que je vienne, et que je vous emmène dans un pays comme le vôtre, dans un pays de blé et de vin, un pays de pain et de vignes. (Ⅱ) - ἕως ἂν ἔλθω καὶ λάβω ὑμα̃ς εἰς γη̃ν ὡς ἡ γη̃ ὑμω̃ν γη̃ σίτου καὶ οἴνου καὶ ἄρτων καὶ ἀμπελώνων (Ⅲ) - donec veniam, et tollam vos ad terram quæ est ut terra vestra, terram frumenti et vini, terram panum et vinearum. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃36 עד באי ולקחתי אתכם אל ארץ כארצכם ארץ דגן ותירוש ארץ לחם וכרמים (Ⅴ)

Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
- Qu'Ézéchias ne vous séduise point, en disant: L'Éternel nous délivrera. Les dieux des nations ont-ils délivré chacun son pays de la main du roi d'Assyrie? (Ⅱ) - μὴ ὑμα̃ς ἀπατάτω Εζεκιας λέγων ὁ θεὸς ὑμω̃ν ῥύσεται ὑμα̃ς μὴ ἐρρύσαντο οἱ θεοὶ τω̃ν ἐθνω̃ν ἕκαστος τὴν ἑαυτου̃ χώραν ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως 'Ασσυρίων (Ⅲ) - Nec conturbet vos Ezechias, dicens : Dominus liberabit nos. Numquid liberaverunt dii gentium unusquisque terram suam de manu regis Assyriorum ? (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃36 פן יסית אתכם חזקיהו לאמר יהוה יצילנו ההצילו אלהי הגוים איש את ארצו מיד מלך אשור (Ⅴ)

Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
- Où sont les dieux de Hamath et d'Arpad? Où sont les dieux de Sepharvaïm? Ont-ils délivré Samarie de ma main? (Ⅱ) - που̃ ἐστιν ὁ θεὸς Αιμαθ καὶ Αρφαθ καὶ που̃ ὁ θεὸς τη̃ς πόλεως Σεπφαριμ μὴ ἐδύναντο ῥύσασθαι Σαμάρειαν ἐκ χειρός μου (Ⅲ) - Ubi est deus Emath et Arphad ? ubi est deus Sepharvaim ? numquid liberaverunt Samariam de manu mea ? (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃36 איה אלהי חמת וארפד איה אלהי ספרוים וכי הצילו את שמרון מידי (Ⅴ)

Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
- Parmi tous les dieux de ces pays, quels sont ceux qui ont délivré leur pays de ma main, pour que l'Éternel délivre Jérusalem de ma main? (Ⅱ) - τίς τω̃ν θεω̃ν πάντων τω̃ν ἐθνω̃ν τούτων ἐρρύσατο τὴν γη̃ν αὐτου̃ ἐκ τη̃ς χειρός μου ὅτι ῥύσεται ὁ θεὸς Ιερουσαλημ ἐκ χειρός μου (Ⅲ) - Quis est ex omnibus diis terrarum istarum qui eruerit terram suam de manu mea, ut eruat Dominus Jerusalem de manu mea ? (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃36 מי בכל אלהי הארצות האלה אשר הצילו את ארצם מידי כי יציל יהוה את ירושלם מידי (Ⅴ)

But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
- Mais ils se turent, et ne lui répondirent pas un mot; car le roi avait donné cet ordre: Vous ne lui répondrez pas. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐσιώπησαν καὶ οὐδεὶς ἀπεκρίθη αὐτω̨̃ λόγον διὰ τὸ προστάξαι τὸν βασιλέα μηδένα ἀποκριθη̃ναι (Ⅲ) - Et siluerunt, et non responderunt ei verbum. Mandaverat enim rex, dicens : Ne respondeatis ei. (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃36 ויחרישו ולא ענו אתו דבר כי מצות המלך היא לאמר לא תענהו (Ⅴ)

Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
- Et Éliakim, fils de Hilkija, chef de la maison du roi, Schebna, le secrétaire, et Joach, fils d'Asaph, l'archiviste, vinrent auprès d'Ézéchias, les vêtements déchirés, et lui rapportèrent les paroles de Rabschaké. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰση̃λθεν Ελιακιμ ὁ του̃ Χελκιου ὁ οἰκονόμος καὶ Σομνας ὁ γραμματεὺς τη̃ς δυνάμεως καὶ Ιωαχ ὁ του̃ Ασαφ ὁ ὑπομνηματογράφος πρὸς Εζεκιαν ἐσχισμένοι τοὺς χιτω̃νας καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν αὐτω̨̃ τοὺς λόγους Ραψακου (Ⅲ) - Et ingressus est Eliacim, filius Helciæ, qui erat super domum, et Sobna scriba, et Joahe filius Asaph, a commentariis, ad Ezechiam, scissis vestibus, et nuntiaverunt ei verba Rabsacis. (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃36 ויבא אליקים בן חלקיהו אשר על הבית ושבנא הסופר ויואח בן אסף המזכיר אל חזקיהו קרועי בגדים ויגידו לו את דברי רב שקה ס (Ⅴ)
