Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
- Parlez au coeur de Jérusalem, et criez lui Que sa servitude est finie, Que son iniquité est expiée, Qu'elle a reçu de la main de l'Éternel Au double de tous ses péchés. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
- Une voix crie: Préparez au désert le chemin de l'Éternel, Aplanissez dans les lieux arides Une route pour notre Dieu. (Ⅱ) - φωνὴ βοω̃ντος ἐν τη̨̃ ἐρήμω̨ ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου εὐθείας ποιει̃τε τὰς τρίβους του̃ θεου̃ ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Vox clamantis in deserto :/ Parate viam Domini,/ rectas facite in solitudine semitas Dei nostri./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃40 קול קורא במדבר פנו דרך יהוה ישרו בערבה מסלה לאלהינו (Ⅴ)

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
- Que toute vallée soit exhaussée, Que toute montagne et toute colline soient abaissées! Que les coteaux se changent en plaines, Et les défilés étroits en vallons! (Ⅱ) - πα̃σα φάραγξ πληρωθήσεται καὶ πα̃ν ὄρος καὶ βουνὸς ταπεινωθήσεται καὶ ἔσται πάντα τὰ σκολιὰ εἰς εὐθει̃αν καὶ ἡ τραχει̃α εἰς πεδία (Ⅲ) - Omnis vallis exaltabitur,/ et omnis mons et collis humiliabitur,/ et erunt prava in directa,/ et aspera in vias planas :/ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃40 כל גיא ינשא וכל הר וגבעה ישפלו והיה העקב למישור והרכסים לבקעה (Ⅴ)

And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
- Alors la gloire de l'Éternel sera révélée, Et au même instant toute chair la verra; Car la bouche de l'Éternel a parlé. The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
- Une voix dit: Crie! -Et il répond: Que crierai-je? Toute chair est comme l'herbe, Et tout son éclat comme la fleur des champs. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
- L'herbe sèche, la fleur tombe, Quand le vent de l'Éternel souffle dessus. -Certainement le peuple est comme l'herbe: (Ⅱ) - ἐξηράνθη ὁ χόρτος καὶ τὸ ἄνθος ἐξέπεσεν (Ⅲ) - Exsiccatum est fœnum, et cecidit flos,/ quia spiritus Domini sufflavit in eo./ Vere fœnum est populus :/ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃40 יבש חציר נבל ציץ כי רוח יהוה נשבה בו אכן חציר העם (Ⅴ)

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
- Monte sur une haute montagne, Sion, pour publier la bonne nouvelle; Élève avec force ta voix, Jérusalem, pour publier la bonne nouvelle; Élève ta voix, ne crains point, Dis aux villes de Juda: Voici votre Dieu! Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
- Voici, le Seigneur, l'Éternel vient avec puissance, Et de son bras il commande; Voici, le salaire est avec lui, Et les rétributions le précèdent. (Ⅱ) - ἰδοὺ κύριος μετὰ ἰσχύος ἔρχεται καὶ ὁ βραχίων μετὰ κυριείας ἰδοὺ ὁ μισθὸς αὐτου̃ μετ' αὐτου̃ καὶ τὸ ἔργον ἐναντίον αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - ecce Dominus Deus in fortitudine veniet,/ et brachium ejus dominabitur :/ ecce merces ejus cum eo,/ et opus illius coram illo./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃40 הנה אדני יהוה בחזק יבוא וזרעו משלה לו הנה שכרו אתו ופעלתו לפניו (Ⅴ)

He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
- Comme un berger, il paîtra son troupeau, Il prendra les agneaux dans ses bras, Et les portera dans son sein; Il conduira les brebis qui allaitent. (Ⅱ) - ὡς ποιμὴν ποιμανει̃ τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτου̃ καὶ τω̨̃ βραχίονι αὐτου̃ συνάξει ἄρνας καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσας παρακαλέσει (Ⅲ) - Sicut pastor gregem suum pascet,/ in brachio suo congregabit agnos,/ et in sinu suo levabit ;/ fœtas ipse portabit./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃40 כרעה עדרו ירעה בזרעו יקבץ טלאים ובחיקו ישא עלות ינהל ס (Ⅴ)

Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
- Qui a mesuré les eaux dans le creux de sa main, Pris les dimensions des cieux avec la paume, Et ramassé la poussière de la terre dans un tiers de mesure? Qui a pesé les montagnes au crochet, Et les collines à la balance? (Ⅱ) - τίς ἐμέτρησεν τη̨̃ χειρὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸν οὐρανὸν σπιθαμη̨̃ καὶ πα̃σαν τὴν γη̃ν δρακί τίς ἔστησεν τὰ ὄρη σταθμω̨̃ καὶ τὰς νάπας ζυγω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Quis mensus est pugillo aquas,/ et cælos palmo ponderavit ?/ quis appendit tribus digitis molem terræ,/ et libravit in pondere montes,/ et colles in statera ?/ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃40 מי מדד בשעלו מים ושמים בזרת תכן וכל בשלש עפר הארץ ושקל בפלס הרים וגבעות במאזנים (Ⅴ)

Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
- Qui a sondé l'esprit de l'Éternel, Et qui l'a éclairé de ses conseils? (Ⅱ) - τίς ἔγνω νου̃ν κυρίου καὶ τίς αὐτου̃ σύμβουλος ἐγένετο ὃς συμβιβα̨̃ αὐτόν (Ⅲ) - Quis adjuvit spiritum Domini ?/ aut quis consiliarius ejus fuit, et ostendit illi ?/ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃40 מי תכן את רוח יהוה ואיש עצתו יודיענו (Ⅴ)

With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
- Avec qui a-t-il délibéré pour en recevoir de l'instruction? Qui lui a appris le sentier de la justice? Qui lui a enseigné la sagesse, Et fait connaître le chemin de l'intelligence? (Ⅱ) - ἢ πρὸς τίνα συνεβουλεύσατο καὶ συνεβίβασεν αὐτόν ἢ τίς ἔδειξεν αὐτω̨̃ κρίσιν ἢ ὁδὸν συνέσεως τίς ἔδειξεν αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - cum quo iniit consilium, et instruxit eum,/ et docuit eum semitam justitiæ,/ et erudivit eum scientiam,/ et viam prudentiæ ostendit illi ?/ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃40 את מי נועץ ויבינהו וילמדהו בארח משפט וילמדהו דעת ודרך תבונות יודיענו (Ⅴ)

Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
- Voici, les nations sont comme une goutte d'un seau, Elles sont comme de la poussière sur une balance; Voici, les îles sont comme une fine poussière qui s'envole. (Ⅱ) - εἰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ὡς σταγὼν ἀπὸ κάδου καὶ ὡς ῥοπὴ ζυγου̃ ἐλογίσθησαν καὶ ὡς σίελος λογισθήσονται (Ⅲ) - Ecce gentes quasi stilla situlæ,/ et quasi momentum stateræ reputatæ sunt ;/ ecce insulæ quasi pulvis exiguus./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃40 הן גוים כמר מדלי וכשחק מאזנים נחשבו הן איים כדק יטול (Ⅴ)

And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
- Le Liban ne suffit pas pour le feu, Et ses animaux ne suffisent pas pour l'holocauste. (Ⅱ) - ὁ δὲ Λίβανος οὐχ ἱκανὸς εἰς καυ̃σιν καὶ πάντα τὰ τετράποδα οὐχ ἱκανὰ εἰς ὁλοκάρπωσιν (Ⅲ) - Et Libanus non sufficiet ad succendendum,/ et animalia ejus non sufficient ad holocaustum./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃40 ולבנון אין די בער וחיתו אין די עולה ס (Ⅴ)

All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
- Toutes les nations sont devant lui comme un rien, Elles ne sont pour lui que néant et vanité. (Ⅱ) - καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ὡς οὐδέν εἰσι καὶ εἰς οὐθὲν ἐλογίσθησαν (Ⅲ) - Omnes gentes quasi non sint, sic sunt coram eo,/ et quasi nihilum et inane reputatæ sunt ei.]\ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃40 כל הגוים כאין נגדו מאפס ותהו נחשבו לו (Ⅴ)

To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
- C'est un ouvrier qui fond l'idole, Et c'est un orfèvre qui la couvre d'or, Et y soude des chaînettes d'argent. He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
- Celui que la pauvreté oblige à donner peu Choisit un bois qui résiste à la vermoulure; Il se procure un ouvrier capable, Pour faire une idole qui ne branle pas. (Ⅱ) - ξύλον γὰρ ἄσηπτον ἐκλέγεται τέκτων καὶ σοφω̃ς ζητει̃ πω̃ς στήσει αὐτου̃ εἰκόνα καὶ ἵνα μὴ σαλεύηται (Ⅲ) - Forte lignum et imputribile elegit ;/ artifex sapiens quærit/ quomodo statuat simulacrum, quod non moveatur./ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃40 המסכן תרומה עץ לא ירקב יבחר חרש חכם יבקש לו להכין פסל לא ימוט (Ⅴ)

Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
- Ne le savez-vous pas? ne l'avez-vous pas appris? Ne vous l'a-t-on pas fait connaître dès le commencement? N'avez-vous jamais réfléchi à la fondation de la terre? (Ⅱ) - οὐ γνώσεσθε οὐκ ἀκούσεσθε οὐκ ἀνηγγέλη ἐξ ἀρχη̃ς ὑμι̃ν οὐκ ἔγνωτε τὰ θεμέλια τη̃ς γη̃ς (Ⅲ) - Numquid non scitis ? numquid non audistis ?/ numquid non annuntiatum est vobis ab initio ?/ numquid non intellexistis fundamenta terræ ?/ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃40 הלוא תדעו הלוא תשמעו הלוא הגד מראש לכם הלוא הבינתם מוסדות הארץ (Ⅴ)

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
- C'est lui qui est assis au-dessus du cercle de la terre, Et ceux qui l'habitent sont comme des sauterelles; Il étend les cieux comme une étoffe légère, Il les déploie comme une tente, pour en faire sa demeure. (Ⅱ) - ὁ κατέχων τὸν γυ̃ρον τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ οἱ ἐνοικου̃ντες ἐν αὐτη̨̃ ὡς ἀκρίδες ὁ στήσας ὡς καμάραν τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ διατείνας ὡς σκηνὴν κατοικει̃ν (Ⅲ) - Qui sedet super gyrum terræ,/ et habitatores ejus sunt quasi locustæ ;/ qui extendit velut nihilum cælos,/ et expandit eos sicut tabernaculum ad inhabitandum ;/ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃40 הישב על חוג הארץ וישביה כחגבים הנוטה כדק שמים וימתחם כאהל לשבת (Ⅴ)

That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
- C'est lui qui réduit les princes au néant, Et qui fait des juges de la terre une vanité; (Ⅱ) - ὁ διδοὺς ἄρχοντας εἰς οὐδὲν ἄρχειν τὴν δὲ γη̃ν ὡς οὐδὲν ἐποίησεν (Ⅲ) - qui dat secretorum scrutatores quasi non sint,/ judices terræ velut inane fecit./ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃40 הנותן רוזנים לאין שפטי ארץ כתהו עשה (Ⅴ)

Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
- Ils ne sont pas même plantés, pas même semés, Leur tronc n'a pas même de racine en terre: Il souffle sur eux, et ils se dessèchent, Et un tourbillon les emporte comme le chaume. (Ⅱ) - οὐ γὰρ μὴ σπείρωσιν οὐδὲ μὴ φυτεύσωσιν οὐδὲ μὴ ῥιζωθη̨̃ εἰς τὴν γη̃ν ἡ ῥίζα αὐτω̃ν ἔπνευσεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐξηράνθησαν καὶ καταιγὶς ὡς φρύγανα ἀναλήμψεται αὐτούς (Ⅲ) - Et quidem neque plantatus, neque satus,/ neque radicatus in terra truncus eorum ;/ repente flavit in eos, et aruerunt,/ et turbo quasi stipulam auferet eos./ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃40 אף בל נטעו אף בל זרעו אף בל שרש בארץ גזעם וגם נשף בהם ויבשו וסערה כקש תשאם ס (Ⅴ)

To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
- A qui me comparerez-vous, pour que je lui ressemble? Dit le Saint. (Ⅱ) - νυ̃ν οὐ̃ν τίνι με ὡμοιώσατε καὶ ὑψωθήσομαι εἰ̃πεν ὁ ἅγιος (Ⅲ) - Et cui assimilastis me, et adæquastis ?/ dicit Sanctus./ (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃40 ואל מי תדמיוני ואשוה יאמר קדוש (Ⅴ)

Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
- Levez vos yeux en haut, et regardez! Qui a créé ces choses? Qui fait marcher en ordre leur armée? Il les appelle toutes par leur nom; Par son grand pouvoir et par sa force puissante, Il n'en est pas une qui fasse défaut. (Ⅱ) - ἀναβλέψατε εἰς ὕψος τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἴδετε τίς κατέδειξεν πάντα ταυ̃τα ὁ ἐκφέρων κατὰ ἀριθμὸν τὸν κόσμον αὐτου̃ πάντας ἐπ' ὀνόματι καλέσει ἀπὸ πολλη̃ς δόξης καὶ ἐν κράτει ἰσχύος οὐδέν σε ἔλαθεν (Ⅲ) - Levate in excelsum oculos vestros, et videte/ quis creavit hæc :/ qui educit in numero militiam eorum,/ et omnes ex nomine vocat ;/ præ multitudine fortitudinis et roboris, virtutisque ejus,/ neque unum reliquum fuit./ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃40 שאו מרום עיניכם וראו מי ברא אלה המוציא במספר צבאם לכלם בשם יקרא מרב אונים ואמיץ כח איש לא נעדר ס (Ⅴ)

Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
- Pourquoi dis-tu, Jacob, Pourquoi dis-tu, Israël: Ma destinée est cachée devant l'Éternel, Mon droit passe inaperçu devant mon Dieu? (Ⅱ) - μὴ γὰρ εἴπη̨ς Ιακωβ καὶ τί ἐλάλησας Ισραηλ ἀπεκρύβη ἡ ὁδός μου ἀπὸ του̃ θεου̃ καὶ ὁ θεός μου τὴν κρίσιν ἀφει̃λεν καὶ ἀπέστη (Ⅲ) - Quare dicis, Jacob,/ et loqueris, Israël :/ Abscondita est via mea a Domino,/ et a Deo meo judicium meum transivit ?/ (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃40 למה תאמר יעקב ותדבר ישראל נסתרה דרכי מיהוה ומאלהי משפטי יעבור (Ⅴ)

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
- Ne le sais-tu pas? ne l'as-tu pas appris? C'est le Dieu d'éternité, l'Éternel, Qui a créé les extrémités de la terre; Il ne se fatigue point, il ne se lasse point; On ne peut sonder son intelligence. (Ⅱ) - καὶ νυ̃ν οὐκ ἔγνως εἰ μὴ ἤκουσας θεὸς αἰώνιος ὁ θεὸς ὁ κατασκευάσας τὰ ἄκρα τη̃ς γη̃ς οὐ πεινάσει οὐδὲ κοπιάσει οὐδὲ ἔστιν ἐξεύρεσις τη̃ς φρονήσεως αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Numquid nescis, aut non audisti ?/ Deus sempiternus Dominus,/ qui creavit terminos terræ :/ non deficiet, neque laborabit,/ nec est investigatio sapientiæ ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃40 הלוא ידעת אם לא שמעת אלהי עולם יהוה בורא קצות הארץ לא ייעף ולא ייגע אין חקר לתבונתו (Ⅴ)

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
- Il donne de la force à celui qui est fatigué, Et il augmente la vigueur de celui qui tombe en défaillance. (Ⅱ) - διδοὺς τοι̃ς πεινω̃σιν ἰσχὺν καὶ τοι̃ς μὴ ὀδυνωμένοις λύπην (Ⅲ) - Qui dat lasso virtutem,/ et his qui non sunt, fortitudinem et robur multiplicat./ (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃40 נתן ליעף כח ולאין אונים עצמה ירבה (Ⅴ)

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
- Les adolescents se fatiguent et se lassent, Et les jeunes hommes chancellent; (Ⅱ) - πεινάσουσιν γὰρ νεώτεροι καὶ κοπιάσουσιν νεανίσκοι καὶ ἐκλεκτοὶ ἀνίσχυες ἔσονται (Ⅲ) - Deficient pueri, et laborabunt,/ et juvenes in infirmitate cadent ;/ (Ⅳ) - 30 ׃40 ויעפו נערים ויגעו ובחורים כשול יכשלו (Ⅴ)

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
- Mais ceux qui se confient en l'Éternel renouvellent leur force. Ils prennent le vol comme les aigles; Ils courent, et ne se lassent point, Ils marchent, et ne se fatiguent point. (Ⅱ) - οἱ δὲ ὑπομένοντες τὸν θεὸν ἀλλάξουσιν ἰσχύν πτεροφυήσουσιν ὡς ἀετοί δραμου̃νται καὶ οὐ κοπιάσουσιν βαδιου̃νται καὶ οὐ πεινάσουσιν (Ⅲ) - qui autem sperant in Domino mutabunt fortitudinem,/ assument pennas sicut aquilæ :/ current et non laborabunt,/ ambulabunt et non deficient.] (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃40 וקוי יהוה יחליפו כח יעלו אבר כנשרים ירוצו ולא ייגעו ילכו ולא ייעפו פ (Ⅴ)
