The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
- La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l'Éternel, en ces mots: (Ⅱ) - ὁ λόγος ὁ γενόμενος παρὰ κυρίου πρὸς Ιερεμιαν λέγων (Ⅲ) - Verbum quod factum est ad Jeremiam a Domino, dicens : (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃18 הדבר אשר היה אל ירמיהו מאת יהוה לאמר (Ⅴ)

Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
- Lève-toi, et descends dans la maison du potier; Là, je te ferai entendre mes paroles. (Ⅱ) - ἀνάστηθι καὶ κατάβηθι εἰς οἰ̃κον του̃ κεραμέως καὶ ἐκει̃ ἀκούση̨ τοὺς λόγους μου (Ⅲ) - Surge, et descende in domum figuli, et ibi audies verba mea. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃18 קום וירדת בית היוצר ושמה אשמיעך את דברי (Ⅴ)

Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
- Je descendis dans la maison du potier, Et voici, il travaillait sur un tour. (Ⅱ) - καὶ κατέβην εἰς τὸν οἰ̃κον του̃ κεραμέως καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ἐποίει ἔργον ἐπὶ τω̃ν λίθων (Ⅲ) - Et descendi in domum figuli, et ecce ipse faciebat opus super rotam. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃18 וארד בית היוצר *והנהו **והנה **הוא[a] עשה מלאכה על האבנים (Ⅴ)

And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
- Le vase qu'il faisait ne réussit pas, Comme il arrive à l'argile dans la main du potier; Il en refit un autre vase, Tel qu'il trouva bon de le faire. (Ⅱ) - καὶ διέπεσεν τὸ ἀγγει̃ον ὃ αὐτὸς ἐποίει ἐν ται̃ς χερσὶν αὐτου̃ καὶ πάλιν αὐτὸς ἐποίησεν αὐτὸ ἀγγει̃ον ἕτερον καθὼς ἤρεσεν ἐνώπιον αὐτου̃ του̃ ποιη̃σαι (Ⅲ) - Et dissipatum est vas quod ipse faciebat e luto manibus suis : conversusque fecit illud vas alterum, sicut placuerat in oculis ejus ut faceret. (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃18 ונשחת הכלי אשר הוא עשה בחמר ביד היוצר ושב ויעשהו כלי אחר כאשר ישר בעיני היוצר לעשות פ (Ⅴ)

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
- Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots: (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων (Ⅲ) - Et factum est verbum Domini ad me, dicens : (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃18 ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמור (Ⅴ)

O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
- Ne puis-je pas agir envers vous comme ce potier, maison d'Israël? Dit l'Éternel. Voici, comme l'argile est dans la main du potier, Ainsi vous êtes dans ma main, maison d'Israël! (Ⅱ) - εἰ καθὼς ὁ κεραμεὺς οὑ̃τος οὐ δυνήσομαι του̃ ποιη̃σαι ὑμα̃ς οἰ̃κος Ισραηλ ἰδοὺ ὡς ὁ πηλὸς του̃ κεραμέως ὑμει̃ς ἐστε ἐν ται̃ς χερσίν μου (Ⅲ) - Numquid sicut figulus iste,/ non potero vobis facere, domus Israël ? ait Dominus :/ ecce sicut lutum in manu figuli,/ sic vos in manu mea, domus Israël./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃18 הכיוצר הזה לא אוכל לעשות לכם בית ישראל נאם יהוה הנה כחמר ביד היוצר כן אתם בידי בית ישראל ס (Ⅴ)

At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
- Soudain je parle, sur une nation, sur un royaume, D'arracher, d'abattre et de détruire; (Ⅱ) - πέρας λαλήσω ἐπὶ ἔθνος ἢ ἐπὶ βασιλείαν του̃ ἐξα̃ραι αὐτοὺς καὶ του̃ ἀπολλύειν (Ⅲ) - Repente loquar adversum gentem et adversus regnum,/ ut eradicem, et destruam, et disperdam illud :/ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃18 רגע אדבר על גוי ועל ממלכה לנתוש ולנתוץ ולהאביד (Ⅴ)

If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
- Mais si cette nation, sur laquelle j'ai parlé, revient de sa méchanceté, Je me repens du mal que j'avais pensé lui faire. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐπιστραφη̨̃ τὸ ἔθνος ἐκει̃νο ἀπὸ πάντων τω̃ν κακω̃ν αὐτω̃ν καὶ μετανοήσω περὶ τω̃ν κακω̃ν ὡ̃ν ἐλογισάμην του̃ ποιη̃σαι αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - si pœnitentiam egerit gens illa a malo suo/ quod locutus sum adversus eam,/ agam et ego pœnitentiam super malo/ quod cogitavi ut facerem ei./ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃18 ושב הגוי ההוא מרעתו אשר דברתי עליו ונחמתי על הרעה אשר חשבתי לעשות לו ס (Ⅴ)

And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
- Et soudain je parle, sur une nation, sur un royaume, De bâtir et de planter; (Ⅱ) - καὶ πέρας λαλήσω ἐπὶ ἔθνος καὶ ἐπὶ βασιλείαν του̃ ἀνοικοδομει̃σθαι καὶ του̃ καταφυτεύεσθαι (Ⅲ) - Et subito loquar de gente et de regno,/ ut ædificem et plantem illud./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃18 ורגע אדבר על גוי ועל ממלכה לבנת ולנטע (Ⅴ)

If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
- Mais si cette nation fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux, Et n'écoute pas ma voix, Je me repens du bien que j'avais eu l'intention de lui faire. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ποιήσωσιν τὰ πονηρὰ ἐναντίον μου του̃ μὴ ἀκούειν τη̃ς φωνη̃ς μου καὶ μετανοήσω περὶ τω̃ν ἀγαθω̃ν ὡ̃ν ἐλάλησα του̃ ποιη̃σαι αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - Si fecerit malum in oculis meis,/ ut non audiat vocem meam,/ pœnitentiam agam super bono quod locutus sum ut facerem ei./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃18 ועשה *הרעה **הרע בעיני לבלתי שמע בקולי ונחמתי על הטובה אשר אמרתי להיטיב אותו ס (Ⅴ)

Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
- Parle maintenant aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem, et dis: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je prépare contre vous un malheur, Je médite un projet contre vous. Revenez chacun de votre mauvaise voie, Réformez vos voies et vos oeuvres! (Ⅱ) - καὶ νυ̃ν εἰπὸν πρὸς ἄνδρας Ιουδα καὶ πρὸς τοὺς κατοικου̃ντας Ιερουσαλημ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ πλάσσω ἐφ' ὑμα̃ς κακὰ καὶ λογίζομαι ἐφ' ὑμα̃ς λογισμόν ἀποστραφήτω δὴ ἕκαστος ἀπὸ ὁδου̃ αὐτου̃ τη̃ς πονηρα̃ς καὶ καλλίονα ποιήσετε τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Nunc ergo dic viro Juda, et habitatoribus Jerusalem, dicens :/ Hæc dicit Dominus :/ Ecce ego fingo contra vos malum,/ et cogito contra vos cogitationem :/ revertatur unusquisque a via sua mala,/ et dirigite vias vestras et studia vestra./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃18 ועתה אמר נא אל איש יהודה ועל יושבי ירושלם לאמר כה אמר יהוה הנה אנכי יוצר עליכם רעה וחשב עליכם מחשבה שובו נא איש מדרכו הרעה והיטיבו דרכיכם ומעלליכם (Ⅴ)

And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
- Mais ils disent: C'est en vain! Car nous suivrons nos pensées, Nous agirons chacun selon les penchants de notre mauvais coeur. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃παν ἀνδριούμεθα ὅτι ὀπίσω τω̃ν ἀποστροφω̃ν ἡμω̃ν πορευσόμεθα καὶ ἕκαστος τὰ ἀρεστὰ τη̃ς καρδίας αὐτου̃ τη̃ς πονηρα̃ς ποιήσομεν (Ⅲ) - Qui dixerunt : Desperavimus :/ post cogitationes enim nostras ibimus,/ et unusquisque pravitatem cordis sui mali faciemus./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃18 ואמרו נואש כי אחרי מחשבותינו נלך ואיש שררות לבו הרע נעשה ס (Ⅴ)

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.
- C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel: Interrogez les nations! Qui a jamais entendu pareilles choses? La vierge d'Israël a commis d'horribles excès. (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το τάδε λέγει κύριος ἐρωτήσατε δὴ ἐν ἔθνεσιν τίς ἤκουσεν τοιαυ̃τα φρικτά ἃ ἐποίησεν σφόδρα παρθένος Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Ideo hæc dicit Dominus :/ Interrogate gentes :/ Quis audivit talia horribilia,/ quæ fecit nimis virgo Israël ?/ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃18 לכן כה אמר יהוה שאלו נא בגוים מי שמע כאלה שעררת עשתה מאד בתולת ישראל (Ⅴ)

Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?
- La neige du Liban abandonne-t-elle le rocher des champs? Ou voit-on tarir les eaux qui viennent de loin, fraîches et courantes? (Ⅱ) - μὴ ἐκλείψουσιν ἀπὸ πέτρας μαστοὶ ἢ χιὼν ἀπὸ του̃ Λιβάνου μὴ ἐκκλινει̃ ὕδωρ βιαίως ἀνέμω̨ φερόμενον (Ⅲ) - Numquid deficiet de petra agri nix Libani ?/ aut evelli possunt aquæ erumpentes frigidæ, et defluentes ?/ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃18 היעזב מצור שדי שלג לבנון אם ינתשו מים זרים קרים נוזלים (Ⅴ)

Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
- Cependant mon peuple m'a oublié, il offre de l'encens à des idoles; Il a été conduit à chanceler dans ses voies, à quitter les anciens sentiers, Pour suivre des sentiers, des chemins non frayés. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι ἐπελάθοντό μου ὁ λαός μου εἰς κενὸν ἐθυμίασαν καὶ ἀσθενήσουσιν ἐν ται̃ς ὁδοι̃ς αὐτω̃ν σχοίνους αἰωνίους του̃ ἐπιβη̃ναι τρίβους οὐκ ἔχοντας ὁδὸν εἰς πορείαν (Ⅲ) - Quia oblitus est mei populus meus,/ frustra libantes,/ et impingentes in viis suis,/ in semitis sæculi,/ ut ambularent per eas in itinere non trito,/ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃18 כי שכחני עמי לשוא יקטרו ויכשלום בדרכיהם שבילי עולם ללכת נתיבות דרך לא סלולה (Ⅴ)

To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.
- Ils ont fait de leur pays, un objet de désolation, d'éternelle moquerie; Tous ceux qui y passent sont stupéfaits et secouent la tête. (Ⅱ) - του̃ τάξαι τὴν γη̃ν αὐτω̃ν εἰς ἀφανισμὸν καὶ σύριγμα αἰώνιον πάντες οἱ διαπορευόμενοι δι' αὐτη̃ς ἐκστήσονται καὶ κινήσουσιν τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - ut fieret terra eorum in desolationem,/ et in sibilum sempiternum :/ omnis qui præterierit per eam obstupescet,/ et movebit caput suum./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃18 לשום ארצם לשמה *שרוקת **שריקות[k] עולם כל עובר עליה ישם ויניד בראשו (Ⅴ)

I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
- Pareil au vent d'orient, je les disperserai devant l'ennemi; Je leur tournerai le dos, je ne les regarderai pas au jour de leur détresse. (Ⅱ) - ὡς ἄνεμον καύσωνα διασπερω̃ αὐτοὺς κατὰ πρόσωπον ἐχθρω̃ν αὐτω̃ν δείξω αὐτοι̃ς ἡμέραν ἀπωλείας αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Sicut ventus urens dispergam eos coram inimico :/ dorsum, et non faciem, ostendam eis in die perditionis eorum.]\ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃18 כרוח קדים אפיצם לפני אויב ערף ולא פנים אראם ביום אידם ס (Ⅴ)

Then said they, Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
- Et ils ont dit: Venez, complotons contre Jérémie! Car la loi ne périra pas faute de sacrificateurs, Ni le conseil faute de sages, ni la parole faute de prophètes. Venez, tuons-le avec la langue; Ne prenons pas garde à tous ses discours! (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃παν δευ̃τε λογισώμεθα ἐπὶ Ιερεμιαν λογισμόν ὅτι οὐκ ἀπολει̃ται νόμος ἀπὸ ἱερέως καὶ βουλὴ ἀπὸ συνετου̃ καὶ λόγος ἀπὸ προφήτου δευ̃τε καὶ πατάξωμεν αὐτὸν ἐν γλώσση̨ καὶ ἀκουσόμεθα πάντας τοὺς λόγους αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et dixerunt : [Venite, et cogitemus contra Jeremiam cogitationes :/ non enim peribit lex a sacerdote,/ neque consilium a sapiente,/ nec sermo a propheta :/ venite, et percutiamus eum lingua,/ et non attendamus ad universos sermones ejus.] (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃18 ויאמרו לכו ונחשבה על ירמיהו מחשבות כי לא תאבד תורה מכהן ועצה מחכם ודבר מנביא לכו ונכהו בלשון ואל נקשיבה אל כל דבריו (Ⅴ)

Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
- Écoute-moi, Éternel! Et entends la voix de mes adversaires! (Ⅱ) - εἰσάκουσόν μου κύριε καὶ εἰσάκουσον τη̃ς φωνη̃ς του̃ δικαιώματός μου (Ⅲ) - Attende, Domine, ad me,/ et audi vocem adversariorum meorum./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃18 הקשיבה יהוה אלי ושמע לקול יריבי (Ⅴ)

Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
- Le mal sera-t-il rendu pour le bien? Car ils ont creusé une fosse pour m'ôter la vie. Souviens-t'en, je me suis tenu devant toi, Afin de parler en leur faveur, Et de détourner d'eux ta colère. (Ⅱ) - εἰ ἀνταποδίδοται ἀντὶ ἀγαθω̃ν κακά ὅτι συνελάλησαν ῥήματα κατὰ τη̃ς ψυχη̃ς μου καὶ τὴν κόλασιν αὐτω̃ν ἔκρυψάν μοι μνήσθητι ἑστηκότος μου κατὰ πρόσωπόν σου του̃ λαλη̃σαι ὑπὲρ αὐτω̃ν ἀγαθὰ του̃ ἀποστρέψαι τὸν θυμόν σου ἀπ' αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Numquid redditur pro bono malum,/ quia foderunt foveam animæ meæ ?/ Recordare quod steterim in conspectu tuo/ ut loquerer pro eis bonum,/ et averterem indignationem tuam ab eis./ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃18 הישלם תחת טובה רעה כי כרו שוחה לנפשי זכר עמדי לפניך לדבר עליהם טובה להשיב את חמתך מהם (Ⅴ)

Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
- C'est pourquoi livre leurs enfants à la famine, Précipite-les par le glaive; Que leurs femmes soient privées d'enfants et deviennent veuves, Et que leurs maris soient enlevés par la peste; Que leurs jeunes gens soient frappés par l'épée dans le combat! (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το δὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτω̃ν εἰς λιμὸν καὶ ἄθροισον αὐτοὺς εἰς χει̃ρας μαχαίρας γενέσθωσαν αἱ γυναι̃κες αὐτω̃ν ἄτεκνοι καὶ χη̃ραι καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτω̃ν γενέσθωσαν ἀνη̨ρημένοι θανάτω̨ καὶ οἱ νεανίσκοι αὐτω̃ν πεπτωκότες μαχαίρα̨ ἐν πολέμω̨ (Ⅲ) - Propterea da filios eorum in famem,/ et deduc eos in manus gladii :/ fiant uxores eorum absque liberis, et viduæ :/ et viri earum interficiantur morte :/ juvenes eorum confodiantur gladio in prælio :/ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃18 לכן תן את בניהם לרעב והגרם על ידי חרב ותהינה נשיהם שכלות ואלמנות ואנשיהם יהיו הרגי מות בחוריהם מכי חרב במלחמה (Ⅴ)

Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
- Qu'on entende des cris sortir de leurs maisons, Quand soudain tu feras fondre sur eux des bandes armées! Car ils ont creusé une fosse pour me prendre, Ils ont tendu des filets sous mes pieds. (Ⅱ) - γενηθήτω κραυγὴ ἐν ται̃ς οἰκίαις αὐτω̃ν ἐπάξεις ἐπ' αὐτοὺς λη̨στὰς ἄφνω ὅτι ἐνεχείρησαν λόγον εἰς σύλλημψίν μου καὶ παγίδας ἔκρυψαν ἐπ' ἐμέ (Ⅲ) - audiatur clamor de domibus eorum :/ adduces enim super eos latronem repente,/ quia foderunt foveam ut caperent me,/ et laqueos absconderunt pedibus meis./ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃18 תשמע זעקה מבתיהם כי תביא עליהם גדוד פתאם כי כרו *שיחה **שוחה ללכדני ופחים טמנו לרגלי (Ⅴ)

Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.
- Et toi, Éternel, tu connais tous leurs complots pour me faire mourir; Ne pardonne pas leur iniquité, N'efface pas leur péché de devant toi! Qu'ils soient renversés en ta présence! Agis contre eux au temps de ta colère! (Ⅱ) - καὶ σύ κύριε ἔγνως ἅπασαν τὴν βουλὴν αὐτω̃ν ἐπ' ἐμὲ εἰς θάνατον μὴ ἀθω̨ώση̨ς τὰς ἀδικίας αὐτω̃ν καὶ τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτω̃ν ἀπὸ προσώπου σου μὴ ἐξαλείψη̨ς γενέσθω ἡ ἀσθένεια αὐτω̃ν ἐναντίον σου ἐν καιρω̨̃ θυμου̃ σου ποίησον ἐν αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - Tu autem, Domine, scis omne consilium eorum/ adversum me in mortem :/ ne propitieris iniquitati eorum,/ et peccatum eorum a facie tua non deleatur :/ fiant corruentes in conspectu tuo ;/ in tempore furoris tui abutere eis.] (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃18 ואתה יהוה ידעת את כל עצתם עלי למות אל תכפר על עונם וחטאתם מלפניך אל תמחי *והיו **ויהיו מכשלים לפניך בעת אפך עשה בהם ס (Ⅴ)
