Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
- Schephathia, fils de Matthan, Guedalia, fils de Paschhur, Jucal, fils de Schélémia, et Paschhur, fils de Malkija, entendirent les paroles que Jérémie adressait à tout le peuple, en disant: (Ⅱ) - Audivit autem Saphatias filius Mathan, et Gedelias filius Phassur, et Juchal filius Selemiæ, et Phassur filius Melchiæ, sermones quos Jeremias loquebatur ad omnem populum, dicens : (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃38 וישמע שפטיה בן מתן וגדליהו בן פשחור ויוכל בן שלמיהו ופשחור בן מלכיה את הדברים אשר ירמיהו מדבר אל כל העם לאמר ס (Ⅴ)

Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
- Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Celui qui restera dans cette ville mourra par l'épée, par la famine ou par la peste; mais celui qui sortira pour se rendre aux Chaldéens, aura la vie sauve, sa vie sera son butin, et il vivra. (Ⅱ) - Hæc dicit Dominus : Quicumque manserit in civitate hac, morietur gladio, et fame, et peste : qui autem profugerit ad Chaldæos, vivet, et erit anima ejus sospes et vivens. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃38 כה אמר יהוה הישב בעיר הזאת ימות בחרב ברעב ובדבר והיצא אל הכשדים *יחיה **וחיה והיתה לו נפשו לשלל וחי ס (Ⅴ)

Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it.
- Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Cette ville sera livrée à l'armée du roi de Babylone, qui la prendra. (Ⅱ) - Hæc dicit Dominus : Tradendo tradetur civitas hæc in manu exercitus regis Babylonis, et capiet eam. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃38 כה אמר יהוה הנתן תנתן העיר הזאת ביד חיל מלך בבל ולכדה (Ⅴ)

Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
- Et les chefs dirent au roi: Que cet homme soit mis à mort! car il décourage les hommes de guerre qui restent dans cette ville, et tout le peuple, en leur tenant de pareils discours; cet homme ne cherche pas le bien de ce peuple, il ne veut que son malheur. (Ⅱ) - Et dixerunt principes regi : Rogamus ut occidatur homo iste : de industria enim dissolvit manus virorum bellantium qui remanserunt in civitate hac, et manus universi populi, loquens ad eos juxta verba hæc : siquidem homo iste non quærit pacem populo huic, sed malum. (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃38 ויאמרו השרים אל המלך יומת נא את האיש הזה כי על כן הוא מרפא את ידי אנשי המלחמה הנשארים בעיר הזאת ואת ידי כל העם לדבר אליהם כדברים האלה כי האיש הזה איננו דרש לשלום לעם הזה כי אם לרעה (Ⅴ)

Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
- Le roi Sédécias répondit: Voici, il est entre vos mains; car le roi ne peut rien contre vous. (Ⅱ) - Et dixit rex Sedecias : Ecce ipse in manibus vestris est : nec enim fas est regem vobis quidquam negare. (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃38 ויאמר המלך צדקיהו הנה הוא בידכם כי אין המלך יוכל אתכם דבר (Ⅴ)

Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
- Alors ils prirent Jérémie, et le jetèrent dans la citerne de Malkija, fils du roi, laquelle se trouvait dans la cour de la prison; ils descendirent Jérémie avec des cordes. Il n'y avait point d'eau dans la citerne, mais il y avait de la boue; et Jérémie enfonça dans la boue. (Ⅱ) - Tulerunt ergo Jeremiam, et projecerunt eum in lacum Melchiæ filii Amelech, qui erat in vestibulo carceris : et submiserunt Jeremiam funibus in lacum, in quo non erat aqua, sed lutum : descendit itaque Jeremias in cœnum. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃38 ויקחו את ירמיהו וישלכו אתו אל הבור מלכיהו בן המלך אשר בחצר המטרה וישלחו את ירמיהו בחבלים ובבור אין מים כי אם טיט ויטבע ירמיהו בטיט ס (Ⅴ)

Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
- Ébed Mélec, l'Éthiopien, eunuque qui était dans la maison du roi, apprit qu'on avait mis Jérémie dans la citerne. Le roi était assis à la porte de Benjamin. (Ⅱ) - Audivit autem Abdemelech Æthiops, vir eunuchus, qui erat in domo regis, quod misissent Jeremiam in lacum. Porro rex sedebat in porta Benjamin : (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃38 וישמע עבד מלך הכושי איש סריס והוא בבית המלך כי נתנו את ירמיהו אל הבור והמלך יושב בשער בנימן (Ⅴ)

Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spake to the king saying,
- Ébed Mélec sortit de la maison du roi, et parla ainsi au roi: (Ⅱ) - et egressus est Abdemelech de domo regis, et locutus est ad regem, dicens : (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃38 ויצא עבד מלך מבית המלך וידבר אל המלך לאמר (Ⅴ)

My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
- O roi, mon seigneur, ces hommes ont mal agi en traitant de la sorte Jérémie, le prophète, en le jetant dans la citerne; il mourra de faim là où il est, car il n'y a plus de pain dans la ville. (Ⅱ) - Domine mi rex, male fecerunt viri isti omnia quæcumque perpetrarunt contra Jeremiam prophetam, mittentes eum in lacum, ut moriatur ibi fame : non sunt enim panes ultra in civitate. (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃38 אדני המלך הרעו האנשים האלה את כל אשר עשו לירמיהו הנביא את אשר השליכו אל הבור וימת תחתיו מפני הרעב כי אין הלחם עוד בעיר (Ⅴ)

|Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
- Le roi donna cet ordre à Ébed Mélec, l'Éthiopien: Prends ici trente hommes avec toi, et tu retireras de la citerne Jérémie, le prophète, avant qu'il ne meure. (Ⅱ) - Præcepit itaque rex Abdemelech Æthiopi, dicens : Tolle tecum hinc triginta viros, et leva Jeremiam prophetam de lacu, antequam moriatur. (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃38 ויצוה המלך את עבד מלך הכושי לאמר קח בידך מזה שלשים אנשים והעלית את ירמיהו הנביא מן הבור בטרם ימות (Ⅴ)

So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
- Ébed Mélec prit avec lui les hommes, et se rendit à la maison du roi, dans un lieu au-dessous du trésor; il en sortit des lambeaux usés et de vieux haillons, et les descendit à Jérémie dans la citerne, avec des cordes. (Ⅱ) - Assumptis ergo Abdemelech secum viris, ingressus est domum regis, quæ erat sub cellario, et tulit inde veteres pannos, et antiqua quæ computruerant, et submisit ea ad Jeremiam in lacum per funiculos. (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃38 ויקח עבד מלך את האנשים בידו ויבא בית המלך אל תחת האוצר ויקח משם בלוי *הסחבות **סחבות ובלוי מלחים וישלחם אל ירמיהו אל הבור בחבלים (Ⅴ)

And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
- Ébed Mélec, l'Éthiopien, dit à Jérémie: Mets ces lambeaux usés et ces haillons sous tes aisselles, sous les cordes. Et Jérémie fit ainsi. (Ⅱ) - Dixitque Abdemelech Æthiops ad Jeremiam : Pone veteres pannos, et hæc scissa et putrida, sub cubito manuum tuarum, et super funes. Fecit ergo Jeremias sic, (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃38 ויאמר עבד מלך הכושי אל ירמיהו שים נא בלואי הסחבות והמלחים תחת אצלות ידיך מתחת לחבלים ויעש ירמיהו כן (Ⅴ)

So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
- Ils tirèrent Jérémie avec les cordes, et le firent monter hors de la citerne. Jérémie resta dans la cour de la prison. (Ⅱ) - et extraxerunt Jeremiam funibus, et eduxerunt eum de lacu : mansit autem Jeremias in vestibulo carceris.\ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃38 וימשכו את ירמיהו בחבלים ויעלו אתו מן הבור וישב ירמיהו בחצר המטרה ס (Ⅴ)

Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from m|e.
- Le roi Sédécias envoya chercher Jérémie, le prophète, et le fit venir auprès de lui dans la troisième entrée de la maison de l'Éternel. Et le roi dit à Jérémie: J'ai une chose à te demander; ne me cache rien. (Ⅱ) - Et misit rex Sedecias, et tulit ad se Jeremiam prophetam ad ostium tertium quod erat in domo Domini : et dixit rex ad Jeremiam : Interrogo ego te sermonem, ne abscondas a me aliquid. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃38 וישלח המלך צדקיהו ויקח את ירמיהו הנביא אליו אל מבוא השלישי אשר בבית יהוה ויאמר המלך אל ירמיהו שאל אני אתך דבר אל תכחד ממני דבר (Ⅴ)

Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
- Jérémie répondit à Sédécias: Si je te la dis, ne me feras-tu pas mourir? Et si je te donne un conseil, tu ne m'écouteras pas. (Ⅱ) - Dixit autem Jeremias ad Sedeciam : Si annuntiavero tibi, numquid non interficies me ? et si consilium dedero tibi, non me audies. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃38 ויאמר ירמיהו אל צדקיהו כי אגיד לך הלוא המת תמיתני וכי איעצך לא תשמע אלי (Ⅴ)

So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
- Le roi Sédécias jura secrètement à Jérémie, en disant: L'Éternel est vivant, lui qui nous a donné la vie! je ne te ferai pas mourir, et je ne te livrerai pas entre les mains de ces hommes qui en veulent à ta vie. (Ⅱ) - Juravit ergo rex Sedecias Jeremiæ clam, dicens : Vivit Dominus, qui fecit nobis animam hanc, si occidero te, et si tradidero te in manus virorum istorum qui quærunt animam tuam. (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃38 וישבע המלך צדקיהו אל ירמיהו בסתר לאמר חי יהוה *את אשר עשה לנו את הנפש הזאת אם אמיתך ואם אתנך ביד האנשים האלה אשר מבקשים את נפשך ס (Ⅴ)

Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
- Jérémie dit alors à Sédécias: Ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Si tu vas te rendre aux chefs du roi de Babylone, tu auras la vie sauve, et cette ville ne sera pas brûlée par le feu; tu vivras, toi et ta maison. (Ⅱ) - Et dixit Jeremias ad Sedeciam : Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Si profectus exieris ad principes regis Babylonis, vivet anima tua, et civitas hæc non succendetur igni : et salvus eris tu, et domus tua. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃38 ויאמר ירמיהו אל צדקיהו כה אמר יהוה אלהי צבאות אלהי ישראל אם יצא תצא אל שרי מלך בבל וחיתה נפשך והעיר הזאת לא תשרף באש וחיתה אתה וביתך (Ⅴ)

But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
- Mais si tu ne te rends pas aux chefs du roi de Babylone, cette ville sera livrée entre les mains des Chaldéens, qui la brûleront par le feu; et toi, tu n'échapperas pas à leurs mains. (Ⅱ) - Si autem non exieris ad principes regis Babylonis, tradetur civitas hæc in manus Chaldæorum, et succendent eam igni : et tu non effugies de manu eorum. (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃38 ואם לא תצא אל שרי מלך בבל ונתנה העיר הזאת ביד הכשדים ושרפוה באש ואתה לא תמלט מידם ס (Ⅴ)

And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
- Le roi Sédécias dit à Jérémie: Je crains les Juifs qui ont passé aux Chaldéens; je crains qu'on ne me livre entre leurs mains, et qu'ils ne m'outragent. (Ⅱ) - Et dixit rex Sedecias ad Jeremiam : Sollicitus sum propter Judæos qui transfugerunt ad Chaldæos, ne forte tradar in manus eorum, et illudant mihi. (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃38 ויאמר המלך צדקיהו אל ירמיהו אני דאג את היהודים אשר נפלו אל הכשדים פן יתנו אתי בידם והתעללו בי פ (Ⅴ)

But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
- Jérémie répondit: On ne te livrera pas. Écoute la voix de l'Éternel dans ce que je te dis; tu t'en trouveras bien, et tu auras la vie sauve. (Ⅱ) - Respondit autem Jeremias : Non te tradent. Audi, quæso, vocem Domini, quam ego loquor ad te, et bene tibi erit, et vivet anima tua. (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃38 ויאמר ירמיהו לא יתנו שמע נא בקול יהוה לאשר אני דבר אליך וייטב לך ותחי נפשך (Ⅴ)

But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
- Mais si tu refuses de sortir, voici ce que l'Éternel m'a révélé: (Ⅱ) - Quod si nolueris egredi, iste est sermo quem ostendit mihi Dominus : (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃38 ואם מאן אתה לצאת זה הדבר אשר הראני יהוה (Ⅴ)

And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.
- Toutes les femmes qui restent dans la maison du roi de Juda seront menées aux chefs du roi de Babylone, et elles diront: Tu as été trompé, dominé, par ceux qui t'annonçaient la paix; et quand tes pieds sont enfoncés dans la boue, ils se retirent. (Ⅱ) - ecce omnes mulieres quæ remanserunt in domo regis Juda educentur ad principes regis Babylonis, et ipsæ dicent : Seduxerunt te, et prævaluerunt adversum te, viri pacifici tui : demerserunt in cœno et in lubrico pedes tuos, et recesserunt a te. (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃38 והנה כל הנשים אשר נשארו בבית מלך יהודה מוצאות אל שרי מלך בבל והנה אמרות הסיתוך ויכלו לך אנשי שלמך הטבעו בבץ רגלך נסגו אחור (Ⅴ)

So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
- Toutes tes femmes et tes enfants seront menés aux Chaldéens; et toi, tu n'échapperas pas à leurs mains, tu seras saisi par la main du roi de Babylone, et cette ville sera brûlée par le feu. (Ⅱ) - Et omnes uxores tuæ et filii tui educentur ad Chaldæos : et non effugies manus eorum, sed in manu regis Babylonis capieris, et civitatem hanc comburet igni. (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃38 ואת כל נשיך ואת בניך מוצאים אל הכשדים ואתה לא תמלט מידם כי ביד מלך בבל תתפש ואת העיר הזאת תשרף באש פ (Ⅴ)

Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
- Sédécias dit à Jérémie: Que personne ne sache rien de ces discours, et tu ne mourras pas. (Ⅱ) - Dixit ergo Sedecias ad Jeremiam : Nullus sciat verba hæc, et non morieris. (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃38 ויאמר צדקיהו אל ירמיהו איש אל ידע בדברים האלה ולא תמות (Ⅴ)

But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
- Si les chefs apprennent que je t'ai parlé, et s'ils viennent te dire: Rapporte-nous ce que tu as dit au roi, et ce que le roi t'a dit, ne nous cache rien, et nous ne te ferons pas mourir, - (Ⅱ) - Si autem audierint principes quia locutus sum tecum, et venerint ad te, et dixerint tibi : Indica nobis quid locutus sis cum rege : ne celes nos, et non te interficiemus : et quid locutus est tecum rex : (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃38 וכי ישמעו השרים כי דברתי אתך ובאו אליך ואמרו אליך[c] הגידה נא לנו מה דברת אל המלך אל תכחד ממנו ולא נמיתך ומה דבר אליך המלך (Ⅴ)

Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.
- tu leur répondras: J'ai supplié le roi de ne pas me renvoyer dans la maison de Jonathan, de peur que je n'y meure. (Ⅱ) - dices ad eos : Prostravi ego preces meas coram rege, ne me reduci juberet in domum Jonathan, et ibi morerer. (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃38 ואמרת אליהם מפיל אני תחנתי לפני המלך לבלתי השיבני בית יהונתן למות שם פ (Ⅴ)

Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
- Tous les chefs vinrent auprès de Jérémie et le questionnèrent. Il leur répondit entièrement comme le roi l'avait ordonné. Ils gardèrent alors le silence et se retirèrent, car la chose ne s'était pas répandue. (Ⅱ) - Venerunt ergo omnes principes ad Jeremiam, et interrogaverunt eum, et locutus est eis juxta omnia verba quæ præceperat ei rex : et cessaverunt ab eo : nihil enim fuerat auditum. (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃38 ויבאו כל השרים אל ירמיהו וישאלו אתו ויגד להם ככל הדברים האלה אשר צוה המלך ויחרשו ממנו כי לא נשמע הדבר פ (Ⅴ)

So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
- Jérémie resta dans la cour de la prison jusqu'au jour de la prise de Jérusalem. (Ⅱ) - Mansit vero Jeremias in vestibulo carceris usque ad diem quo capta est Jerusalem : et factum est ut caperetur Jerusalem. (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃38 וישב ירמיהו בחצר המטרה עד יום אשר נלכדה ירושלם סוהיה כאשר נלכדה ירושלם פ (Ⅴ)
