Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.
- Écoutez cette parole, Cette complainte que je prononce sur vous, Maison d'Israël! (Ⅱ) - ἀκούσατε τὸν λόγον κυρίου του̃τον ὃν ἐγὼ λαμβάνω ἐφ' ὑμα̃ς θρη̃νον οἰ̃κος Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Audite verbum istud,/ quod ego levo super vos planctum :/ domus Israël cecidit,/ et non adjiciet ut resurgat./ (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃5 שמעו את הדבר הזה אשר אנכי נשא עליכם קינה בית ישראל (Ⅴ)

The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.
- Elle est tombée, elle ne se relèvera plus, La vierge d'Israël; Elle est couchée par terre, Nul ne la relève. (Ⅱ) - ἔπεσεν οὐκέτι μὴ προσθη̨̃ του̃ ἀναστη̃ναι παρθένος του̃ Ισραηλ ἔσφαλεν ἐπὶ τη̃ς γη̃ς αὐτη̃ς οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ ἀναστήσων αὐτήν (Ⅲ) - Virgo Israël projecta est in terram suam,/ non est qui suscitet eam./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃5 נפלה לא תוסיף קום בתולת ישראל נטשה על אדמתה אין מקימה (Ⅴ)

For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
- Car ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: La ville qui mettait en campagne mille hommes N'en conservera que cent, Et celle qui mettait en campagne cent hommes N'en conservera que dix, pour la maison d'Israël. (Ⅱ) - διότι τάδε λέγει κύριος κύριος ἡ πόλις ἐξ ἡ̃ς ἐξεπορεύοντο χίλιοι ὑπολειφθήσονται ἑκατόν καὶ ἐξ ἡ̃ς ἐξεπορεύοντο ἑκατόν ὑπολειφθήσονται δέκα τω̨̃ οἴκω̨ Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Quia hæc dicit Dominus Deus :/ Urbs de qua egrediebantur mille,/ relinquentur in ea centum ;/ et de qua egrediebantur centum,/ relinquentur in ea decem in domo Israël./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃5 כי כה אמר אדני יהוה העיר היצאת אלף תשאיר מאה והיוצאת מאה תשאיר עשרה לבית ישראל ס (Ⅴ)

For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:
- Car ainsi parle l'Éternel à la maison d'Israël: Cherchez-moi, et vous vivrez! (Ⅱ) - διότι τάδε λέγει κύριος πρὸς τὸν οἰ̃κον Ισραηλ ἐκζητήσατέ με καὶ ζήσεσθε (Ⅲ) - Quia hæc dicit Dominus domui Israël :/ Quærite me, et vivetis./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃5 כי כה אמר יהוה לבית ישראל דרשוני וחיו (Ⅴ)

But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.
- Ne cherchez pas Béthel, N'allez pas à Guilgal, Ne passez pas à Beer Schéba. Car Guilgal sera captif, Et Béthel anéanti. (Ⅱ) - καὶ μὴ ἐκζητει̃τε Βαιθηλ καὶ εἰς Γαλγαλα μὴ εἰσπορεύεσθε καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ φρέαρ του̃ ὅρκου μὴ διαβαίνετε ὅτι Γαλγαλα αἰχμαλωτευομένη αἰχμαλωτευθήσεται καὶ Βαιθηλ ἔσται ὡς οὐχ ὑπάρχουσα (Ⅲ) - Et nolite quærere Bethel,/ et in Galgalam nolite intrare,/ et in Bersabee non transibitis,/ quia Galgala captiva ducetur,/ et Bethel erit inutilis./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃5 ואל תדרשו בית אל והגלגל לא תבאו ובאר שבע לא תעברו כי הגלגל גלה יגלה ובית אל יהיה לאון (Ⅴ)

Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.
- Cherchez l'Éternel, et vous vivrez! Craignez qu'il ne saisisse comme un feu la maison de Joseph, Et que ce feu ne la dévore, sans personne à Béthel pour l'éteindre, (Ⅱ) - ἐκζητήσατε τὸν κύριον καὶ ζήσατε ὅπως μὴ ἀναλάμψη̨ ὡς πυ̃ρ ὁ οἰ̃κος Ιωσηφ καὶ καταφάγεται αὐτόν καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ σβέσων τω̨̃ οἴκω̨ Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Quærite Dominum, et vivite/ (ne forte comburatur ut ignis domus Joseph, et devorabit,/ et non erit qui extinguat Bethel :/ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃5 דרשו את יהוה וחיו פן יצלח כאש בית יוסף ואכלה ואין מכבה לבית אל (Ⅴ)

Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,
- O vous qui changez le droit en absinthe, Et qui foulez à terre la justice! (Ⅱ) - κύριος ὁ ποιω̃ν εἰς ὕψος κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνην εἰς γη̃ν ἔθηκεν (Ⅲ) - qui convertitis in absinthium judicium,/ et justitiam in terra relinquitis) :/ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃5 ההפכים ללענה משפט וצדקה לארץ הניחו (Ⅴ)

Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:
- Il a créé les Pléiades et l'Orion, Il change les ténèbres en aurore, Il obscurcit le jour pour en faire la nuit, Il appelle les eaux de la mer, Et les répand à la surface de la terre: L'Éternel est son nom. (Ⅱ) - ποιω̃ν πάντα καὶ μετασκευάζων καὶ ἐκτρέπων εἰς τὸ πρωὶ σκιὰν θανάτου καὶ ἡμέραν εἰς νύκτα συσκοτάζων ὁ προσκαλούμενος τὸ ὕδωρ τη̃ς θαλάσσης καὶ ἐκχέων αὐτὸ ἐπὶ προσώπου τη̃ς γη̃ς κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ ὄνομα αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - facientem Arcturum et Orionem,/ et convertentem in mane tenebras,/ et diem in noctem mutantem ;/ qui vocat aquas maris,/ et effundit eas super faciem terræ ;/ Dominus nomen est ejus :/ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃5 עשה כימה וכסיל והפך לבקר צלמות ויום לילה החשיך הקורא למי הים וישפכם על פני הארץ יהוה שמו ס (Ⅴ)

That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.
- Il fait lever la ruine sur les puissants, Et la ruine vient sur les forteresses. (Ⅱ) - ὁ διαιρω̃ν συντριμμὸν ἐπ' ἰσχὺν καὶ ταλαιπωρίαν ἐπὶ ὀχύρωμα ἐπάγων (Ⅲ) - qui subridet vastitatem super robustum,/ et depopulationem super potentem affert./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃5 המבליג שד על עז ושד על מבצר יבוא (Ⅴ)

They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.
- Ils haïssent celui qui les reprend à la porte, Et ils ont en horreur celui qui parle sincèrement. (Ⅱ) - ἐμίσησαν ἐν πύλαις ἐλέγχοντα καὶ λόγον ὅσιον ἐβδελύξαντο (Ⅲ) - Odio habuerunt corripientem in porta,/ et loquentem perfecte abominati sunt./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃5 שנאו בשער מוכיח ודבר תמים יתעבו (Ⅴ)

Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.
- Aussi, parce que vous avez foulé le misérable, Et que vous avez pris de lui du blé en présent, Vous avez bâti des maisons en pierres de taille, Mais vous ne les habiterez pas; Vous avez planté d'excellentes vignes, Mais vous n'en boirez pas le vin. (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το ἀνθ' ὡ̃ν κατεκονδυλίζετε πτωχοὺς καὶ δω̃ρα ἐκλεκτὰ ἐδέξασθε παρ' αὐτω̃ν οἴκους ξυστοὺς ὠ̨κοδομήσατε καὶ οὐ μὴ κατοικήσητε ἐν αὐτοι̃ς ἀμπελω̃νας ἐπιθυμητοὺς ἐφυτεύσατε καὶ οὐ μὴ πίητε τὸν οἰ̃νον ἐξ αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Idcirco, pro eo quod diripiebatis pauperem,/ et prædam electam tollebatis ab eo,/ domos quadro lapide ædificabitis,/ et non habitabitis in eis ;/ vineas plantabis amantissimas,/ et non bibetis vinum earum./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃5 לכן יען בושסכם על דל ומשאת בר תקחו ממנו בתי גזית בניתם ולא תשבו בם כרמי חמד נטעתם ולא תשתו את יינם (Ⅴ)

For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.
- Car, je le sais, vos crimes sont nombreux, Vos péchés se sont multipliés; Vous opprimez le juste, vous recevez des présents, Et vous violez à la porte le droit des pauvres. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι ἔγνων πολλὰς ἀσεβείας ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἰσχυραὶ αἱ ἁμαρτίαι ὑμω̃ν καταπατου̃ντες δίκαιον λαμβάνοντες ἀλλάγματα καὶ πένητας ἐν πύλαις ἐκκλίνοντες (Ⅲ) - Quia cognovi multa scelera vestra,/ et fortia peccata vestra :/ hostes justi, accipientes munus,/ et pauperes deprimentes in porta./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃5 כי ידעתי רבים פשעיכם ועצמים חטאתיכם צררי צדיק לקחי כפר ואביונים בשער הטו (Ⅴ)

Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.
- Voilà pourquoi, en des temps comme ceux-ci, le sage se tait; Car ces temps sont mauvais. (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το ὁ συνίων ἐν τω̨̃ καιρω̨̃ ἐκείνω̨ σιωπήσεται ὅτι καιρὸς πονηρός ἐστιν (Ⅲ) - Ideo prudens in tempore illo tacebit,/ quia tempus malum est./ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃5 לכן המשכיל בעת ההיא ידם כי עת רעה היא (Ⅴ)

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.
- Recherchez le bien et non le mal, afin que vous viviez, Et qu'ainsi l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées, soit avec vous, Comme vous le dites. (Ⅱ) - ἐκζητήσατε τὸ καλὸν καὶ μὴ τὸ πονηρόν ὅπως ζήσητε καὶ ἔσται οὕτως μεθ' ὑμω̃ν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ ὃν τρόπον εἴπατε (Ⅲ) - Quærite bonum, et non malum, ut vivatis ;/ et erit Dominus Deus exercituum vobiscum, sicut dixistis./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃5 דרשו טוב ואל רע למען תחיו ויהי כן יהוה אלהי צבאות אתכם כאשר אמרתם (Ⅴ)

Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
- Haïssez le mal et aimez le bien, Faites régner à la porte la justice; Et peut-être l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées, aura pitié Des restes de Joseph. (Ⅱ) - μεμισήκαμεν τὰ πονηρὰ καὶ ἠγαπήκαμεν τὰ καλά καὶ ἀποκαταστήσατε ἐν πύλαις κρίμα ὅπως ἐλεήση̨ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ τοὺς περιλοίπους του̃ Ιωσηφ (Ⅲ) - Odite malum et diligite bonum,/ et constituite in porta judicium :/ si forte misereatur Dominus Deus exercituum reliquiis Joseph./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃5 שנאו רע ואהבו טוב והציגו בשער משפט אולי יחנן יהוה אלהי צבאות שארית יוסף ס (Ⅴ)

Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.
- C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées, le Seigneur; Dans toutes les places on se lamentera, Dans toutes les rues on dira: Hélas! hélas! On appellera le laboureur au deuil, Et aux lamentations ceux qui disent des complaintes. (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ ἐν πάσαις πλατείαις κοπετός καὶ ἐν πάσαις ὁδοι̃ς ῥηθήσεται οὐαὶ οὐαί κληθήσεται γεωργὸς εἰς πένθος καὶ κοπετὸν καὶ εἰς εἰδότας θρη̃νον (Ⅲ) - Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus exercituum, dominator :/ In omnibus plateis planctus ;/ et in cunctis quæ foris sunt, dicetur : Væ, væ !/ et vocabunt agricolam ad luctum,/ et ad planctum eos qui sciunt plangere./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃5 לכן כה אמר יהוה אלהי צבאות אדני בכל רחבות מספד ובכל חוצות יאמרו הו הו וקראו אכר אל אבל ומספד אל יודעי נהי (Ⅴ)

And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.
- Dans toutes les vignes on se lamentera, Lorsque je passerai au milieu de toi, dit l'Éternel. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐν πάσαις ὁδοι̃ς κοπετός διότι διελεύσομαι διὰ μέσου σου εἰ̃πεν κύριος (Ⅲ) - Et in omnibus vineis erit planctus,/ quia pertransibo in medio tui,/ dicit Dominus.]\ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃5 ובכל כרמים מספד כי אעבר בקרבך אמר יהוה ס (Ⅴ)

Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
- Malheur à ceux qui désirent le jour de l'Éternel! Qu'attendez-vous du jour de l'Éternel? Il sera ténèbres et non lumière. (Ⅱ) - οὐαὶ οἱ ἐπιθυμου̃ντες τὴν ἡμέραν κυρίου ἵνα τί αὕτη ὑμι̃ν ἡ ἡμέρα του̃ κυρίου καὶ αὐτή ἐστιν σκότος καὶ οὐ φω̃ς (Ⅲ) - Væ desiderantibus diem Domini !/ ad quid eam vobis ?/ Dies Domini ista, tenebræ, et non lux./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃5 הוי המתאוים את יום יהוה למה זה לכם יום יהוה הוא חשך ולא אור (Ⅴ)

As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
- Vous serez comme un homme qui fuit devant un lion Et que rencontre un ours, Qui gagne sa demeure, appuie sa main sur la muraille, Et que mord un serpent. (Ⅱ) - ὃν τρόπον ὅταν φύγη̨ ἄνθρωπος ἐκ προσώπου του̃ λέοντος καὶ ἐμπέση̨ αὐτω̨̃ ἡ ἄρκος καὶ εἰσπηδήση̨ εἰς τὸν οἰ̃κον αὐτου̃ καὶ ἀπερείσηται τὰς χει̃ρας αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ τὸν τοι̃χον καὶ δάκη̨ αὐτὸν ὁ ὄφις (Ⅲ) - Quomodo si fugiat vir a facie leonis,/ et occurrat ei ursus ;/ et ingrediatur domum, et innitatur manu sua super parietem,/ et mordeat eum coluber./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃5 כאשר ינוס איש מפני הארי ופגעו הדב ובא הבית וסמך ידו על הקיר ונשכו הנחש (Ⅴ)

Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
- Le jour de l'Éternel n'est-il pas ténèbres et non lumière? N'est-il pas obscur et sans éclat? (Ⅱ) - οὐχὶ σκότος ἡ ἡμέρα του̃ κυρίου καὶ οὐ φω̃ς καὶ γνόφος οὐκ ἔχων φέγγος αὐτη̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Numquid non tenebræ dies Domini, et non lux ;/ et caligo, et non splendor in ea ?/ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃5 הלא חשך יום יהוה ולא אור ואפל ולא נגה לו (Ⅴ)

I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.
- Je hais, je méprise vos fêtes, Je ne puis sentir vos assemblées. (Ⅱ) - μεμίσηκα ἀπω̃σμαι ἑορτὰς ὑμω̃ν καὶ οὐ μὴ ὀσφρανθω̃ ἐν ται̃ς πανηγύρεσιν ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Odi, et projeci festivitates vestras,/ et non capiam odorem cœtuum vestrorum./ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃5 שנאתי מאסתי חגיכם ולא אריח בעצרתיכם (Ⅴ)

Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
- Quand vous me présentez des holocaustes et des offrandes, Je n'y prends aucun plaisir; Et les veaux engraissés que vous sacrifiez en actions de grâces, Je ne les regarde pas. (Ⅱ) - διότι καὶ ἐὰν ἐνέγκητέ μοι ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ θυσίας ὑμω̃ν οὐ προσδέξομαι αὐτά καὶ σωτηρίου ἐπιφανείας ὑμω̃ν οὐκ ἐπιβλέψομαι (Ⅲ) - Quod si obtuleritis mihi holocautomata, et munera vestra,/ non suscipiam ;/ et vota pinguium vestrorum non respiciam./ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃5 כי אם תעלו לי עלות ומנחתיכם לא ארצה ושלם מריאיכם לא אביט (Ⅴ)

Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.
- Éloigne de moi le bruit de tes cantiques; Je n'écoute pas le son de tes luths. (Ⅱ) - μετάστησον ἀπ' ἐμου̃ ἠ̃χον ὠ̨δω̃ν σου καὶ ψαλμὸν ὀργάνων σου οὐκ ἀκούσομαι (Ⅲ) - Aufer a me tumultum carminum tuorum ;/ et cantica lyræ tuæ non audiam./ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃5 הסר מעלי המון שריך וזמרת נבליך לא אשמע (Ⅴ)

But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
- Mais que la droiture soit comme un courant d'eau, Et la justice comme un torrent qui jamais ne tarit. (Ⅱ) - καὶ κυλισθήσεται ὡς ὕδωρ κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνη ὡς χειμάρρους ἄβατος (Ⅲ) - Et revelabitur quasi aqua judicium,/ et justitia quasi torrens fortis./ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃5 ויגל כמים משפט וצדקה כנחל איתן (Ⅴ)

Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
- M'avez-vous fait des sacrifices et des offrandes Pendant les quarante années du désert, maison d'Israël?... (Ⅱ) - μὴ σφάγια καὶ θυσίας προσηνέγκατέ μοι ἐν τη̨̃ ἐρήμω̨ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη οἰ̃κος Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Numquid hostias et sacrificium obtulistis mihi/ in deserto quadraginta annis, domus Israël ? (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃5 הזבחים ומנחה הגשתם לי במדבר ארבעים שנה בית ישראל (Ⅴ)

But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.
- Emportez donc la tente de votre roi, Le piédestal de vos idoles, L'étoile de votre Dieu Que vous vous êtes fabriqué! (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀνελάβετε τὴν σκηνὴν του̃ Μολοχ καὶ τὸ ἄστρον του̃ θεου̃ ὑμω̃ν Ραιφαν τοὺς τύπους αὐτω̃ν οὓς ἐποιήσατε ἑαυτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - et portastis tabernaculum Moloch vestro,/ et imaginem idolorum vestrorum, sidus dei vestri,/ quæ fecistis vobis./ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃5 ונשאתם את סכות מלככם ואת כיון צלמיכם כוכב אלהיכם אשר עשיתם לכם (Ⅴ)

Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.
- Et je vous emmènerai captifs au delà de Damas, Dit l'Éternel, dont le nom est le Dieu des armées. (Ⅱ) - καὶ μετοικιω̃ ὑμα̃ς ἐπέκεινα Δαμασκου̃ λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ ὄνομα αὐτω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Et migrare vos faciam trans Damascum, dicit Dominus :/ Deus exercituum nomen ejus.] (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃5 והגליתי אתכם מהלאה לדמשק אמר יהוה אלהי צבאות שמו פ (Ⅴ)
