4. 1  
But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
- Cela déplut fort à Jonas, et il fut irrité. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐλυπήθη Ιωνας λύπην μεγάλην καὶ συνεχύθη (Ⅲ)
- Et afflictus est Jonas afflictione magna, et iratus est : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 1  ׃4   וירע אל יונה רעה גדולה ויחר לו ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 2  
And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
- Il implora l'Éternel, et il dit: Ah! Éternel, n'est-ce pas ce que je disais quand j'étais encore dans mon pays? C'est ce que je voulais prévenir en fuyant à Tarsis. Car je savais que tu es un Dieu compatissant et miséricordieux, lent à la colère et riche en bonté, et qui te repens du mal. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ προσεύξατο πρὸς κύριον καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὠ̃ κύριε οὐχ οὑ̃τοι οἱ λόγοι μου ἔτι ὄντος μου ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ μου διὰ του̃το προέφθασα του̃ φυγει̃ν εἰς Θαρσις διότι ἔγνων ὅτι σὺ ἐλεήμων καὶ οἰκτίρμων μακρόθυμος καὶ πολυέλεος καὶ μετανοω̃ν ἐπὶ ται̃ς κακίαις (Ⅲ)
- et oravit ad Dominum, et dixit : Obsecro, Domine, numquid non hoc est verbum meum cum adhuc essem in terra mea ? propter hoc præoccupavi ut fugerem in Tharsis : scio enim quia tu Deus clemens et misericors es, patiens et multæ miserationis, et ignoscens super malitia. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 2  ׃4   ויתפלל אל יהוה ויאמר אנה יהוה הלוא זה דברי עד היותי על אדמתי על כן קדמתי לברח תרשישה כי ידעתי כי אתה אל חנון ורחום ארך אפים ורב חסד ונחם על הרעה ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 3  
Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
- Maintenant, Éternel, prends-moi donc la vie, car la mort m'est préférable à la vie. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ νυ̃ν δέσποτα κύριε λαβὲ τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀπ' ἐμου̃ ὅτι καλὸν τὸ ἀποθανει̃ν με ἢ ζη̃ν με (Ⅲ)
- Et nunc, Domine, tolle, quæso, animam meam a me, quia melior est mihi mors quam vita. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 3  ׃4   ועתה יהוה קח נא את נפשי ממני כי טוב מותי מחיי ס‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 4  
Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?
- L'Éternel répondit: Fais-tu bien de t'irriter? (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος πρὸς Ιωναν εἰ σφόδρα λελύπησαι σύ (Ⅲ)
- Et dixit Dominus : Putasne bene irasceris tu ? (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 4  ׃4   ויאמר יהוה ההיטב חרה לך ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 5  
So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
- Et Jonas sortit de la ville, et s'assit à l'orient de la ville, Là il se fit une cabane, et s'y tint à l'ombre, jusqu'à ce qu'il vît ce qui arriverait dans la ville. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν Ιωνας ἐκ τη̃ς πόλεως καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἀπέναντι τη̃ς πόλεως καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτω̨̃ ἐκει̃ σκηνὴν καὶ ἐκάθητο ὑποκάτω αὐτη̃ς ἐν σκια̨̃ ἕως οὑ̃ ἀπίδη̨ τί ἔσται τη̨̃ πόλει (Ⅲ)
- Et egressus est Jonas de civitate, et sedit contra orientem civitatis : et fecit sibimet umbraculum ibi, et sedebat subter illud in umbra, donec videret quid accideret civitati. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 5  ׃4   ויצא יונה מן העיר וישב מקדם לעיר ויעש לו שם סכה וישב תחתיה בצל עד אשר יראה מה יהיה בעיר ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 6  
And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
- L'Éternel Dieu fit croître un ricin, qui s'éleva au-dessus de Jonas, pour donner de l'ombre sur sa tête et pour lui ôter son irritation. Jonas éprouva une grande joie à cause de ce ricin. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ προσέταξεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς κολοκύνθη̨ καὶ ἀνέβη ὑπὲρ κεφαλη̃ς του̃ Ιωνα του̃ εἰ̃ναι σκιὰν ὑπεράνω τη̃ς κεφαλη̃ς αὐτου̃ του̃ σκιάζειν αὐτω̨̃ ἀπὸ τω̃ν κακω̃ν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐχάρη Ιωνας ἐπὶ τη̨̃ κολοκύνθη̨ χαρὰν μεγάλην (Ⅲ)
- Et præparavit Dominus Deus hederam, et ascendit super caput Jonæ, ut esset umbra super caput ejus, et protegeret eum (laboraverat enim) : et lætatus est Jonas super hedera lætitia magna. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 6  ׃4   וימן יהוה אלהים קיקיון ויעל מעל ליונה להיות צל על ראשו להציל לו מרעתו וישמח יונה על הקיקיון שמחה גדולה ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 7  
But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.
- Mais le lendemain, à l'aurore, Dieu fit venir un ver qui piqua le ricin, et le ricin sécha. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ προσέταξεν ὁ θεὸς σκώληκι ἑωθινη̨̃ τη̨̃ ἐπαύριον καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὴν κολόκυνθαν καὶ ἀπεξηράνθη (Ⅲ)
- Et paravit Deus vermen ascensu diluculi in crastinum : et percussit hederam, et exaruit. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 7  ׃4   וימן האלהים תולעת בעלות השחר למחרת ותך את הקיקיון וייבש ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 8  
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
- Au lever du soleil, Dieu fit souffler un vent chaud d'orient, et le soleil frappa la tête de Jonas, au point qu'il tomba en défaillance. Il demanda la mort, et dit: La mort m'est préférable à la vie. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ ἐγένετο ἅμα τω̨̃ ἀνατει̃λαι τὸν ἥλιον καὶ προσέταξεν ὁ θεὸς πνεύματι καύσωνος συγκαίοντι καὶ ἐπάταξεν ὁ ἥλιος ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Ιωνα καὶ ὠλιγοψύχησεν καὶ ἀπελέγετο τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ̃πεν καλόν μοι ἀποθανει̃ν με ἢ ζη̃ν (Ⅲ)
- Et cum ortus fuisset sol, præcepit Dominus vento calido et urenti : et percussit sol super caput Jonæ, et æstuabat : et petivit animæ suæ ut moreretur, et dixit : Melius est mihi mori quam vivere. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 8  ׃4   ויהי כזרח השמש וימן אלהים רוח קדים חרישית ותך השמש על ראש יונה ויתעלף וישאל את נפשו למות ויאמר טוב מותי מחיי ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 9  
And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
- Dieu dit à Jonas: Fais-tu bien de t'irriter à cause du ricin? Il répondit: Je fais bien de m'irriter jusqu'à la mort. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Ιωναν εἰ σφόδρα λελύπησαι σὺ ἐπὶ τη̨̃ κολοκύνθη̨ καὶ εἰ̃πεν σφόδρα λελύπημαι ἐγὼ ἕως θανάτου (Ⅲ)
- Et dixit Dominus ad Jonam : Putasne bene irasceris tu super hedera ? Et dixit : Bene irascor ego usque ad mortem. (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 9  ׃4   ויאמר אלהים אל יונה ההיטב חרה לך על הקיקיון ויאמר היטב חרה לי עד מות ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 10  
Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
- Et l'Éternel dit: Tu as pitié du ricin qui ne t'a coûté aucune peine et que tu n'as pas fait croître, qui est né dans une nuit et qui a péri dans une nuit. (Ⅱ)
- καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος σὺ ἐφείσω ὑπὲρ τη̃ς κολοκύνθης ὑπὲρ ἡ̃ς οὐκ ἐκακοπάθησας ἐπ' αὐτὴν καὶ οὐκ ἐξέθρεψας αὐτήν ἣ ἐγενήθη ὑπὸ νύκτα καὶ ὑπὸ νύκτα ἀπώλετο (Ⅲ)
- Et dixit Dominus : Tu doles super hederam in qua non laborasti, neque fecisti ut cresceret ; quæ sub una nocte nata est, et sub una nocte periit : (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 10 ׃4   ויאמר יהוה אתה חסת על הקיקיון אשר לא עמלת בו ולא גדלתו שבן לילה היה ובן לילה אבד ‬ (Ⅴ)
4. 11  
And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
- Et moi, je n'aurais pas pitié de Ninive, la grande ville, dans laquelle se trouvent plus de cent vingt mille hommes qui ne savent pas distinguer leur droite de leur gauche, et des animaux en grand nombre! (Ⅱ)
- ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ φείσομαι ὑπὲρ Νινευη τη̃ς πόλεως τη̃ς μεγάλης ἐν ἡ̨̃ κατοικου̃σιν πλείους ἢ δώδεκα μυριάδες ἀνθρώπων οἵτινες οὐκ ἔγνωσαν δεξιὰν αὐτω̃ν ἢ ἀριστερὰν αὐτω̃ν καὶ κτήνη πολλά (Ⅲ)
- et ego non parcam Ninive, civitati magnæ, in qua sunt plus quam centum viginti millia hominum qui nesciunt quid sit inter dexteram et sinistram suam, et jumenta multa ? (Ⅳ)
- ‫ 11 ׃4   ואני לא אחוס על נינוה העיר הגדולה אשר יש בה הרבה משתים עשרה רבו אדם אשר לא ידע בין ימינו לשמאלו ובהמה רבה ‬ (Ⅴ)
