22. 1

And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.

- Les enfants d'Israël partirent, et ils campèrent dans les plaines de Moab, au delà du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπάραντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ παρενέβαλον ἐπὶ δυσμω̃ν Μωαβ παρὰ τὸν Ιορδάνην κατὰ Ιεριχω (Ⅲ)

- Profectique castrametati sunt in campestribus Moab, ubi trans Jordanem Jericho sita est. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃22 ויסעו בני ישראל ויחנו בערבות מואב מעבר לירדן ירחו ס‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 2

And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

- Balak, fils de Tsippor, vit tout ce qu'Israël avait fait aux Amoréens. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἰδὼν Βαλακ υἱὸς Σεπφωρ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν Ισραηλ τω̨̃ Αμορραίω̨ (Ⅲ)

- Videns autem Balac filius Sephor omnia quæ fecerat Israël Amorrhæo, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃22 וירא בלק בן צפור את כל אשר עשה ישראל לאמרי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 3

And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.

- Et Moab fut très effrayé en face d'un peuple aussi nombreux, il fut saisi de terreur en face des enfants d'Israël. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐφοβήθη Μωαβ τὸν λαὸν σφόδρα ὅτι πολλοὶ ἠ̃σαν καὶ προσώχθισεν Μωαβ ἀπὸ προσώπου υἱω̃ν Ισραηλ (Ⅲ)

- et quod pertimuissent eum Moabitæ, et impetum ejus ferre non possent, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃22 ויגר מואב מפני העם מאד כי רב הוא ויקץ מואב מפני בני ישראל ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 4

And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

- Moab dit aux anciens de Madian: Cette multitude va dévorer tout ce qui nous entoure, comme le boeuf broute la verdure des champs. Balak, fils de Tsippor, était alors roi de Moab. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Μωαβ τη̨̃ γερουσία̨ Μαδιαμ νυ̃ν ἐκλείξει ἡ συναγωγὴ αὕτη πάντας τοὺς κύκλω̨ ἡμω̃ν ὡς ἐκλείξαι ὁ μόσχος τὰ χλωρὰ ἐκ του̃ πεδίου καὶ Βαλακ υἱὸς Σεπφωρ βασιλεὺς Μωαβ ἠ̃ν κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν ἐκει̃νον (Ⅲ)

- dixit ad majores natu Madian : Ita delebit hic populus omnes, qui in nostris finibus commorantur, quomodo solet bos herbas usque ad radices carpere. Ipse erat eo tempore rex in Moab. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃22 ויאמר מואב אל זקני מדין עתה ילחכו הקהל את כל סביבתינו כלחך השור את ירק השדה ובלק בן צפור מלך למואב בעת ההוא ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 5

He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:

- Il envoya des messagers auprès de Balaam, fils de Beor, à Pethor sur le fleuve, dans le pays des fils de son peuple, afin de l'appeler et de lui dire: Voici, un peuple est sorti d'Égypte, il couvre la surface de la terre, et il habite vis-à-vis de moi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπέστειλεν πρέσβεις πρὸς Βαλααμ υἱὸν Βεωρ Φαθουρα ὅ ἐστιν ἐπὶ του̃ ποταμου̃ γη̃ς υἱω̃ν λαου̃ αὐτου̃ καλέσαι αὐτὸν λέγων ἰδοὺ λαὸς ἐξελήλυθεν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἰδοὺ κατεκάλυψεν τὴν ὄψιν τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ οὑ̃τος ἐγκάθηται ἐχόμενός μου (Ⅲ)

- Misit ergo nuntios ad Balaam filium Beor ariolum, qui habitabat super flumen terræ filiorum Ammon, ut vocarent eum, et dicerent : Ecce egressus est populus ex Ægypto, qui operuit superficiem terræ, sedens contra me. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃22 וישלח מלאכים אל בלעם בן בעור פתורה אשר על הנהר ארץ בני עמו לקרא לו לאמר הנה עם יצא ממצרים הנה כסה את עין הארץ והוא ישב ממלי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 6

Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.

- Viens, je te prie, maudis-moi ce peuple, car il est plus puissant que moi; peut-être ainsi pourrai-je le battre et le chasserai-je du pays, car je sais que celui que tu bénis est béni, et que celui que tu maudis est maudit. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν δευ̃ρο ἄρασαί μοι τὸν λαὸν του̃τον ὅτι ἰσχύει οὑ̃τος ἢ ἡμει̃ς ἐὰν δυνώμεθα πατάξαι ἐξ αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἐκβαλω̃ αὐτοὺς ἐκ τη̃ς γη̃ς ὅτι οἰ̃δα οὓς ἐὰν εὐλογήση̨ς σύ εὐλόγηνται καὶ οὓς ἐὰν καταράση̨ σύ κεκατήρανται (Ⅲ)

- Veni igitur, et maledic populo huic, quia fortior me est : si quomodo possim percutere et ejicere eum de terra mea. Novi enim quod benedictus sit cui benedixeris, et maledictus in quem maledicta congesseris. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃22 ועתה לכה נא ארה לי את העם הזה כי עצום הוא ממני אולי אוכל נכה בו ואגרשנו מן הארץ כי ידעתי את אשר תברך מברך ואשר תאר יואר ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 7

And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.

- Les anciens de Moab et les anciens de Madian partirent, ayant avec eux des présents pour le devin. Ils arrivèrent auprès de Balaam, et lui rapportèrent les paroles de Balak. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἡ γερουσία Μωαβ καὶ ἡ γερουσία Μαδιαμ καὶ τὰ μαντει̃α ἐν ται̃ς χερσὶν αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἠ̃λθον πρὸς Βαλααμ καὶ εἰ̃παν αὐτω̨̃ τὰ ῥήματα Βαλακ (Ⅲ)

- Perrexeruntque seniores Moab, et majores natu Madian, habentes divinationis pretium in manibus. Cumque venissent ad Balaam, et narrassent ei omnia verba Balac, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃22 וילכו זקני מואב וזקני מדין וקסמים בידם ויבאו אל בלעם וידברו אליו דברי בלק ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 8

And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.

- Balaam leur dit: Passez ici la nuit, et je vous donnerai réponse, d'après ce que l'Éternel me dira. Et les chefs de Moab restèrent chez Balaam. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτούς καταλύσατε αὐτου̃ τὴν νύκτα καὶ ἀποκριθήσομαι ὑμι̃ν πράγματα ἃ ἐὰν λαλήση̨ κύριος πρός με καὶ κατέμειναν οἱ ἄρχοντες Μωαβ παρὰ Βαλααμ (Ⅲ)

- ille respondit : Manete hic nocte, et respondebo quidquid mihi dixerit Dominus. Manentibus illis apud Balaam, venit Deus, et ait ad eum : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃22 ויאמר אליהם לינו פה הלילה והשבתי אתכם דבר כאשר ידבר יהוה אלי וישבו שרי מואב עם בלעם ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 9

And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?

- Dieu vint à Balaam, et dit: Qui sont ces hommes que tu as chez toi? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Βαλααμ καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ τί οἱ ἄνθρωποι οὑ̃τοι παρὰ σοί (Ⅲ)

- Quid sibi volunt homines isti apud te ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃22 ויבא אלהים אל בלעם ויאמר מי האנשים האלה עמך ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 10

And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,

- Balaam répondit à Dieu: Balak, fils de Tsippor, roi de Moab, les a envoyés pour me dire: (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Βαλααμ πρὸς τὸν θεόν Βαλακ υἱὸς Σεπφωρ βασιλεὺς Μωαβ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς πρός με λέγων (Ⅲ)

- Respondit : Balac filius Sephor rex Moabitarum misit ad me, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃22 ויאמר בלעם אל האלהים בלק בן צפר מלך מואב שלח אלי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 11

Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.

- Voici, un peuple est sorti d'Égypte, et il couvre la surface de la terre; viens donc, maudis-le; peut-être ainsi pourrai-je le combattre, et le chasserai-je. (Ⅱ)

- ἰδοὺ λαὸς ἐξελήλυθεν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἰδοὺ κεκάλυφεν τὴν ὄψιν τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ οὑ̃τος ἐγκάθηται ἐχόμενός μου καὶ νυ̃ν δευ̃ρο ἄρασαί μοι αὐτόν εἰ ἄρα δυνήσομαι πατάξαι αὐτὸν καὶ ἐκβαλω̃ αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τη̃ς γη̃ς (Ⅲ)

- dicens : Ecce populus qui egressus est de Ægypto, operuit superficiem terræ : veni, et maledic ei, si quomodo possim pugnans abigere eum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃22 הנה העם היצא ממצרים ויכס את עין הארץ עתה לכה קבה לי אתו אולי אוכל להלחם בו וגרשתיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 12

And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.

- Dieu dit à Balaam: Tu n'iras point avec eux; tu ne maudiras point ce peuple, car il est béni. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Βαλααμ οὐ πορεύση̨ μετ' αὐτω̃ν οὐδὲ καταράση̨ τὸν λαόν ἔστιν γὰρ εὐλογημένος (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque Deus ad Balaam : Noli ire cum eis, neque maledicas populo : quia benedictus est. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃22 ויאמר אלהים אל בלעם לא תלך עמהם לא תאר את העם כי ברוך הוא ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 13

And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.

- Balaam se leva le matin, et il dit aux chefs de Balak: Allez dans votre pays, car l'Éternel refuse de me laisser aller avec vous. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀναστὰς Βαλααμ τὸ πρωὶ εἰ̃πεν τοι̃ς ἄρχουσιν Βαλακ ἀποτρέχετε πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὑμω̃ν οὐκ ἀφίησίν με ὁ θεὸς πορεύεσθαι μεθ' ὑμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Qui mane consurgens dixit ad principes : Ite in terram vestram, quia prohibuit me Dominus venire vobiscum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃22 ויקם בלעם בבקר ויאמר אל שרי בלק לכו אל ארצכם כי מאן יהוה לתתי להלך עמכם ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 14

And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.

- Et les princes de Moab se levèrent, retournèrent auprès de Balak, et dirent: Balaam a refusé de venir avec nous. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀναστάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες Μωαβ ἠ̃λθον πρὸς Βαλακ καὶ εἰ̃παν οὐ θέλει Βαλααμ πορευθη̃ναι μεθ' ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ)

- Reversi principes dixerunt ad Balac : Noluit Balaam venire nobiscum.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃22 ויקומו שרי מואב ויבאו אל בלק ויאמרו מאן בלעם הלך עמנו ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 15

And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honorable than they.

- Balak envoya de nouveau des chefs en plus grand nombre et plus considérés que les précédents. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ προσέθετο Βαλακ ἔτι ἀποστει̃λαι ἄρχοντας πλείους καὶ ἐντιμοτέρους τούτων (Ⅲ)

- Rursum ille multo plures et nobiliores quam ante miserat, misit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃22 ויסף עוד בלק שלח שרים רבים ונכבדים מאלה ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 16

And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:

- Ils arrivèrent auprès de Balaam, et lui dirent: Ainsi parle Balak, fils de Tsippor: Que l'on ne t'empêche donc pas de venir vers moi; (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθον πρὸς Βαλααμ καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτω̨̃ τάδε λέγει Βαλακ ὁ του̃ Σεπφωρ ἀξιω̃ σε μὴ ὀκνήση̨ς ἐλθει̃ν πρός με (Ⅲ)

- Qui cum venissent ad Balaam, dixerunt : Sic dicit Balac filius Sephor : Ne cuncteris venire ad me : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃22 ויבאו אל בלעם ויאמרו לו כה אמר בלק בן צפור אל נא תמנע מהלך אלי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 17

For I will promote thee unto very great honor, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.

- car je te rendrai beaucoup d'honneurs, et je ferai tout ce que tu me diras; viens, je te prie, maudis-moi ce peuple. (Ⅱ)

- ἐντίμως γὰρ τιμήσω σε καὶ ὅσα ἐὰν εἴπη̨ς ποιήσω σοι καὶ δευ̃ρο ἐπικατάρασαί μοι τὸν λαὸν του̃τον (Ⅲ)

- paratus sum honorare te, et quidquid volueris, dabo tibi : veni, et maledic populo isti. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃22 כי כבד אכבדך מאד וכל אשר תאמר אלי אעשה ולכה נא קבה לי את העם הזה ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 18

And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.

- Balaam répondit et dit aux serviteurs de Balak: Quand Balak me donnerait sa maison pleine d'argent et d'or, je ne pourrais faire aucune chose, ni petite ni grande, contre l'ordre de l'Éternel, mon Dieu. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Βαλααμ καὶ εἰ̃πεν τοι̃ς ἄρχουσιν Βαλακ ἐὰν δω̨̃ μοι Βαλακ πλήρη τὸν οἰ̃κον αὐτου̃ ἀργυρίου καὶ χρυσίου οὐ δυνήσομαι παραβη̃ναι τὸ ῥη̃μα κυρίου του̃ θεου̃ ποιη̃σαι αὐτὸ μικρὸν ἢ μέγα ἐν τη̨̃ διανοία̨ μου (Ⅲ)

- Respondit Balaam : Si dederit mihi Balac plenam domum suam argenti et auri, non potero immutare verbum Domini Dei mei, ut vel plus, vel minus loquar. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃22 ויען בלעם ויאמר אל עבדי בלק אם יתן לי בלק מלא ביתו כסף וזהב לא אוכל לעבר את פי יהוה אלהי לעשות קטנה או גדולה ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 19

Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.

- Maintenant, je vous prie, restez ici cette nuit, et je saurai ce que l'Éternel me dira encore. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ νυ̃ν ὑπομείνατε αὐτου̃ καὶ ὑμει̃ς τὴν νύκτα ταύτην καὶ γνώσομαι τί προσθήσει κύριος λαλη̃σαι πρός με (Ⅲ)

- Obsecro ut hic maneatis etiam hac nocte, et scire queam quid mihi rursum respondeat Dominus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃22 ועתה שבו נא בזה גם אתם הלילה ואדעה מה יסף יהוה דבר עמי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 20

And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.

- Dieu vint à Balaam pendant la nuit, et lui dit: Puisque ces hommes sont venus pour t'appeler, lève-toi, va avec eux; mais tu feras ce que je te dirai. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἠ̃λθεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Βαλααμ νυκτὸς καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ εἰ καλέσαι σε πάρεισιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι οὑ̃τοι ἀναστὰς ἀκολούθησον αὐτοι̃ς ἀλλὰ τὸ ῥη̃μα ὃ ἂν λαλήσω πρὸς σέ του̃το ποιήσεις (Ⅲ)

- Venit ergo Deus ad Balaam nocte, et ait ei : Si vocare te venerunt homines isti, surge, et vade cum eis : ita dumtaxat, ut quod tibi præcepero, facias. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃22 ויבא אלהים אל בלעם לילה ויאמר לו אם לקרא לך באו האנשים קום לך אתם ואך את הדבר אשר אדבר אליך אתו תעשה ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 21

And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.

- Balaam se leva le matin, sella son ânesse, et partit avec les chefs de Moab. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀναστὰς Βαλααμ τὸ πρωὶ ἐπέσαξεν τὴν ὄνον αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐπορεύθη μετὰ τω̃ν ἀρχόντων Μωαβ (Ⅲ)

- Surrexit Balaam mane, et strata asina sua profectus est cum eis.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃22 ויקם בלעם בבקר ויחבש את אתנו וילך עם שרי מואב ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 22

And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.

- La colère de Dieu s'enflamma, parce qu'il était parti; et l'ange de l'Éternel se plaça sur le chemin, pour lui résister. Balaam était monté sur son ânesse, et ses deux serviteurs étaient avec lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμω̨̃ ὁ θεὸς ὅτι ἐπορεύθη αὐτός καὶ ἀνέστη ὁ ἄγγελος του̃ θεου̃ ἐνδιαβάλλειν αὐτόν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπιβεβήκει ἐπὶ τη̃ς ὄνου αὐτου̃ καὶ δύο παι̃δες αὐτου̃ μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Et iratus est Deus. Stetitque angelus Domini in via contra Balaam, qui insidebat asinæ, et duos pueros habebat secum. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃22 ויחר אף אלהים כי הולך הוא ויתיצב מלאך יהוה בדרך לשטן לו והוא רכב על אתנו ושני נעריו עמו ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 23

And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.

- L'ânesse vit l'ange de l'Éternel qui se tenait sur le chemin, son épée nue dans la main; elle se détourna du chemin et alla dans les champs. Balaam frappa l'ânesse pour la ramener dans le chemin. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἰδου̃σα ἡ ὄνος τὸν ἄγγελον του̃ θεου̃ ἀνθεστηκότα ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ καὶ τὴν ῥομφαίαν ἐσπασμένην ἐν τη̨̃ χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐξέκλινεν ἡ ὄνος ἐκ τη̃ς ὁδου̃ καὶ ἐπορεύετο εἰς τὸ πεδίον καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὴν ὄνον τη̨̃ ῥάβδω̨ του̃ εὐθυ̃ναι αὐτὴν ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ (Ⅲ)

- Cernens asina angelum stantem in via, evaginato gladio, avertit se de itinere, et ibat per agrum. Quam cum verberaret Balaam, et vellet ad semitam reducere, (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 23 ׃22 ותרא האתון את מלאך יהוה נצב בדרך וחרבו שלופה בידו ותט האתון מן הדרך ותלך בשדה ויך בלעם את האתון להטתה הדרך ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 24

But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

- L'ange de l'Éternel se plaça dans un sentier entre les vignes; il y avait un mur de chaque côté. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔστη ὁ ἄγγελος του̃ θεου̃ ἐν ται̃ς αὔλαξιν τω̃ν ἀμπέλων φραγμὸς ἐντευ̃θεν καὶ φραγμὸς ἐντευ̃θεν (Ⅲ)

- stetit angelus in angustiis duarum maceriarum, quibus vineæ cingebantur. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 24 ׃22 ויעמד מלאך יהוה במשעול הכרמים גדר מזה וגדר מזה ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 25

And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.

- L'ânesse vit l'ange de l'Éternel; elle se serra contre le mur, et pressa le pied de Balaam contre le mur. Balaam la frappa de nouveau. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἰδου̃σα ἡ ὄνος τὸν ἄγγελον του̃ θεου̃ προσέθλιψεν ἑαυτὴν πρὸς τὸν τοι̃χον καὶ ἀπέθλιψεν τὸν πόδα Βαλααμ καὶ προσέθετο ἔτι μαστίξαι αὐτήν (Ⅲ)

- Quem videns asina, junxit se parieti, et attrivit sedentis pedem. At ille iterum verberabat eam : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 25 ׃22 ותרא האתון את מלאך יהוה ותלחץ אל הקיר ותלחץ את רגל בלעם אל הקיר ויסף להכתה ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 26

And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.

- L'ange de l'Éternel passa plus loin, et se plaça dans un lieu où il n'y avait point d'espace pour se détourner à droite ou à gauche. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ προσέθετο ὁ ἄγγελος του̃ θεου̃ καὶ ἀπελθὼν ὑπέστη ἐν τόπω̨ στενω̨̃ εἰς ὃν οὐκ ἠ̃ν ἐκκλι̃ναι δεξιὰν οὐδὲ ἀριστεράν (Ⅲ)

- et nihilominus angelus ad locum angustum transiens, ubi nec ad dexteram, nec ad sinistram poterat deviare, obvius stetit. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 26 ׃22 ויוסף מלאך יהוה עבור ויעמד במקום צר אשר אין דרך לנטות ימין ושמאול ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 27

And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.

- L'ânesse vit l'ange de l'Éternel, et elle s'abattit sous Balaam. La colère de Balaam s'enflamma, et il frappa l'ânesse avec un bâton. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἰδου̃σα ἡ ὄνος τὸν ἄγγελον του̃ θεου̃ συνεκάθισεν ὑποκάτω Βαλααμ καὶ ἐθυμώθη Βαλααμ καὶ ἔτυπτεν τὴν ὄνον τη̨̃ ῥάβδω̨ (Ⅲ)

- Cumque vidisset asina stantem angelum, concidit sub pedibus sedentis : qui iratus, vehementius cædebat fuste latera ejus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 27 ׃22 ותרא האתון את מלאך יהוה ותרבץ תחת בלעם ויחר אף בלעם ויך את האתון במקל ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 28

And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

- L'Éternel ouvrit la bouche de l'ânesse, et elle dit à Balaam: Que t'ai je fait, pour que tu m'aies frappée déjà trois fois? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἤνοιξεν ὁ θεὸς τὸ στόμα τη̃ς ὄνου καὶ λέγει τω̨̃ Βαλααμ τί ἐποίησά σοι ὅτι πέπαικάς με του̃το τρίτον (Ⅲ)

- Aperuitque Dominus os asinæ, et locuta est : Quid feci tibi ? cur percutis me ecce jam tertio ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 28 ׃22 ויפתח יהוה את פי האתון ותאמר לבלעם מה עשיתי לך כי הכיתני זה שלש רגלים ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 29

And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.

- Balaam répondit à l'ânesse: C'est parce que tu t'es moquée de moi; si j'avais une épée dans la main, je te tuerais à l'instant. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Βαλααμ τη̨̃ ὄνω̨ ὅτι ἐμπέπαιχάς μοι καὶ εἰ εἰ̃χον μάχαιραν ἐν τη̨̃ χειρί μου ἤδη ἂν ἐξεκέντησά σε (Ⅲ)

- Respondit Balaam : Quia commeruisti, et illusisti mihi : utinam haberem gladium, ut te percuterem ! (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 29 ׃22 ויאמר בלעם לאתון כי התעללת בי לו יש חרב בידי כי עתה הרגתיך ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 30

And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.

- L'ânesse dit à Balaam: Ne suis-je pas ton ânesse, que tu as de tout temps montée jusqu'à ce jour? Ai-je l'habitude de te faire ainsi? Et il répondit: Non. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ λέγει ἡ ὄνος τω̨̃ Βαλααμ οὐκ ἐγὼ ἡ ὄνος σου ἐφ' ἡ̃ς ἐπέβαινες ἀπὸ νεότητός σου ἕως τη̃ς σήμερον ἡμέρας μὴ ὑπεροράσει ὑπεριδου̃σα ἐποίησά σοι οὕτως ὁ δὲ εἰ̃πεν οὐχί (Ⅲ)

- Dixit asina : Nonne animal tuum sum, cui semper sedere consuevisti usque in præsentem diem ? dic quid simile umquam fecerim tibi. At ille ait : Numquam. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 30 ׃22 ותאמר האתון אל בלעם הלוא אנכי אתנך אשר רכבת עלי מעודך עד היום הזה ההסכן הסכנתי לעשות לך כה ויאמר לא ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 31

Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

- L'Éternel ouvrit les yeux de Balaam, et Balaam vit l'ange de l'Éternel qui se tenait sur le chemin, son épée nue dans la main; et il s'inclina, et se prosterna sur son visage. (Ⅱ)

- ἀπεκάλυψεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς Βαλααμ καὶ ὁρα̨̃ τὸν ἄγγελον κυρίου ἀνθεστηκότα ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ καὶ τὴν μάχαιραν ἐσπασμένην ἐν τη̨̃ χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ κύψας προσεκύνησεν τω̨̃ προσώπω̨ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Protinus aperuit Dominus oculos Balaam, et vidit angelum stantem in via, evaginato gladio, adoravitque eum pronus in terram. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 31 ׃22 ויגל יהוה את עיני בלעם וירא את מלאך יהוה נצב בדרך וחרבו שלפה בידו ויקד וישתחו לאפיו ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 32

And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:

- L'ange de l'Éternel lui dit: Pourquoi as-tu frappé ton ânesse déjà trois fois? Voici, je suis sorti pour te résister, car c'est un chemin de perdition qui est devant moi. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ ὁ ἄγγελος του̃ θεου̃ διὰ τί ἐπάταξας τὴν ὄνον σου του̃το τρίτον καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξη̃λθον εἰς διαβολήν σου ὅτι οὐκ ἀστεία ἡ ὁδός σου ἐναντίον μου (Ⅲ)

- Cui angelus : Cur, inquit, tertio verberas asinam tuam ? ego veni ut adversarer tibi, quia perversa est via tua, mihique contraria : (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 32 ׃22 ויאמר אליו מלאך יהוה על מה הכית את אתנך זה שלוש רגלים הנה אנכי יצאתי לשטן כי ירט הדרך לנגדי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 33

And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.

- L'ânesse m'a vu, et elle s'est détournée devant moi déjà trois fois; si elle ne fût pas détournée de moi, je t'aurais même tué, et je lui aurais laissé la vie. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἰδου̃σά με ἡ ὄνος ἐξέκλινεν ἀπ' ἐμου̃ τρίτον του̃το καὶ εἰ μὴ ἐξέκλινεν νυ̃ν οὐ̃ν σὲ μὲν ἀπέκτεινα ἐκείνην δὲ περιεποιησάμην (Ⅲ)

- et nisi asina declinasset de via, dans locum resistenti, te occidissem, et illa viveret.\ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 33 ׃22 ותראני האתון ותט לפני זה שלש רגלים אולי נטתה מפני כי עתה גם אתכה הרגתי ואותה החייתי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 34

And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.

- Balaam dit à l'ange de l'Éternel: J'ai péché, car je ne savais pas que tu te fusses placé au-devant de moi sur le chemin; et maintenant, si tu me désapprouves, je m'en retournerai. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Βαλααμ τω̨̃ ἀγγέλω̨ κυρίου ἡμάρτηκα οὐ γὰρ ἠπιστάμην ὅτι σύ μοι ἀνθέστηκας ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ εἰς συνάντησιν καὶ νυ̃ν εἰ μή σοι ἀρέσκει ἀποστραφήσομαι (Ⅲ)

- Dixit Balaam : Peccavi, nesciens quod tu stares contra me : et nunc si displicet tibi ut vadam, revertar. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 34 ׃22 ויאמר בלעם אל מלאך יהוה חטאתי כי לא ידעתי כי אתה נצב לקראתי בדרך ועתה אם רע בעיניך אשובה לי ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 35

And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

- L'ange de l'Éternel dit à Balaam: Va avec ces hommes; mais tu ne feras que répéter les paroles que je te dirai. Et Balaam alla avec les chefs de Balak. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ ἄγγελος του̃ θεου̃ πρὸς Βαλααμ συμπορεύθητι μετὰ τω̃ν ἀνθρώπων πλὴν τὸ ῥη̃μα ὃ ἐὰν εἴπω πρὸς σέ του̃το φυλάξη̨ λαλη̃σαι καὶ ἐπορεύθη Βαλααμ μετὰ τω̃ν ἀρχόντων Βαλακ (Ⅲ)

- Ait angelus : Vade cum istis, et cave ne aliud quam præcepero tibi loquaris. Ivit igitur cum principibus. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 35 ׃22 ויאמר מלאך יהוה אל בלעם לך עם האנשים ואפס את הדבר אשר אדבר אליך אתו תדבר וילך בלעם עם שרי בלק ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 36

And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.

- Balak apprit que Balaam arrivait, et il sortit à sa rencontre jusqu'à la ville de Moab qui est sur la limite de l'Arnon, à l'extrême frontière. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἀκούσας Βαλακ ὅτι ἥκει Βαλααμ ἐξη̃λθεν εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτω̨̃ εἰς πόλιν Μωαβ ἥ ἐστιν ἐπὶ τω̃ν ὁρίων Αρνων ὅ ἐστιν ἐκ μέρους τω̃ν ὁρίων (Ⅲ)

- Quod cum audisset Balac, egressus est in occursum ejus in oppido Moabitarum, quod situm est in extremis finibus Arnon. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 36 ׃22 וישמע בלק כי בא בלעם ויצא לקראתו אל עיר מואב אשר על גבול ארנן אשר בקצה הגבול ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 37

And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honor?

- Balak dit à Balaam: N'ai-je pas envoyé auprès de toi pour t'appeler? Pourquoi n'es-tu pas venu vers moi? Ne puis-je donc pas te traiter avec honneur? (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Βαλακ πρὸς Βαλααμ οὐχὶ ἀπέστειλα πρὸς σὲ καλέσαι σε διὰ τί οὐκ ἤρχου πρός με ὄντως οὐ δυνήσομαι τιμη̃σαί σε (Ⅲ)

- Dixitque ad Balaam : Misi nuntios ut vocarent te : cur non statim venisti ad me ? an quia mercedem adventui tuo reddere nequeo ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 37 ׃22 ויאמר בלק אל בלעם הלא שלח שלחתי אליך לקרא לך למה לא הלכת אלי האמנם לא אוכל כבדך ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 38

And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.

- Balaam dit à Balak: Voici, je suis venu vers toi; maintenant, me sera-t-il permis de dire quoi que ce soit? Je dirai les paroles que Dieu mettra dans ma bouche. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Βαλααμ πρὸς Βαλακ ἰδοὺ ἥκω πρὸς σέ νυ̃ν δυνατὸς ἔσομαι λαλη̃σαί τι τὸ ῥη̃μα ὃ ἐὰν βάλη̨ ὁ θεὸς εἰς τὸ στόμα μου του̃το λαλήσω (Ⅲ)

- Cui ille respondit : Ecce adsum : numquid loqui potero aliud, nisi quod Deus posuerit in ore meo ? (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 38 ׃22 ויאמר בלעם אל בלק הנה באתי אליך עתה היכול אוכל דבר מאומה הדבר אשר ישים אלהים בפי אתו אדבר ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 39

And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.

- Balaam alla avec Balak, et ils arrivèrent à Kirjath Hutsoth. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐπορεύθη Βαλααμ μετὰ Βαλακ καὶ ἠ̃λθον εἰς πόλεις ἐπαύλεων (Ⅲ)

- Perrexerunt ergo simul, et venerunt in urbem, quæ in extremis regni ejus finibus erat. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 39 ׃22 וילך בלעם עם בלק ויבאו קרית חצות ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 40

And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.

- Balak sacrifia des boeufs et des brebis, et il en envoya à Balaam et aux chefs qui étaient avec lui. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἔθυσεν Βαλακ πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τω̨̃ Βαλααμ καὶ τοι̃ς ἄρχουσι τοι̃ς μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Cumque occidisset Balac boves et oves, misit ad Balaam, et principes qui cum eo erant, munera. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 40 ׃22 ויזבח בלק בקר וצאן וישלח לבלעם ולשרים אשר אתו ‬ (Ⅴ)

22. 41

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.

- Le matin, Balak prit Balaam, et le fit monter à Bamoth Baal, d'où Balaam vit une partie du peuple. (Ⅱ)

- καὶ ἐγενήθη πρωὶ καὶ παραλαβὼν Βαλακ τὸν Βαλααμ ἀνεβίβασεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὴν στήλην του̃ Βααλ καὶ ἔδειξεν αὐτω̨̃ ἐκει̃θεν μέρος τι του̃ λαου̃ (Ⅲ)

- Mane autem facto, duxit eum ad excelsa Baal, et intuitus est extremam partem populi. (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 41 ׃22 ויהי בבקר ויקח בלק את בלעם ויעלהו במות בעל וירא משם קצה העם ‬ (Ⅴ)
