And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
- Lorsque tous les rois des Amoréens à l'occident du Jourdain et tous les rois des Cananéens près de la mer apprirent que l'Éternel avait mis à sec les eaux du Jourdain devant les enfants d'Israël jusqu'à ce que nous eussions passé, ils perdirent courage et furent consternés à l'aspect des enfants d'Israël. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσαν οἱ βασιλει̃ς τω̃ν Αμορραίων οἳ ἠ̃σαν πέραν του̃ Ιορδάνου καὶ οἱ βασιλει̃ς τη̃ς Φοινίκης οἱ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν ὅτι ἀπεξήρανεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν Ιορδάνην ποταμὸν ἐκ τω̃ν ἔμπροσθεν τω̃ν υἱω̃ν Ισραηλ ἐν τω̨̃ διαβαίνειν αὐτούς καὶ ἐτάκησαν αὐτω̃ν αἱ διάνοιαι καὶ κατεπλάγησαν καὶ οὐκ ἠ̃ν ἐν αὐτοι̃ς φρόνησις οὐδεμία ἀπὸ προσώπου τω̃ν υἱω̃ν Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Postquam ergo audierunt omnes reges Amorrhæorum, qui habitabant trans Jordanem ad occidentalem plagam, et cuncti reges Chanaan, qui propinqua possidebant magni maris loca, quod siccasset Dominus fluenta Jordanis coram filiis Israël donec transirent, dissolutum est cor eorum, et non remansit in eis spiritus, timentium introitum filiorum Israël.\ (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃5 ויהי כשמע כל מלכי האמרי אשר בעבר הירדן ימה וכל מלכי הכנעני אשר על הים את אשר הוביש יהוה את מי הירדן מפני בני ישראל עד *עברנו **עברם וימס לבבם ולא היה בם עוד רוח מפני בני ישראל ס (Ⅴ)

At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.
- En ce temps-là, l'Éternel dit à Josué: Fais-toi des couteaux de pierre, et circoncis de nouveau les enfants d'Israël, une seconde fois. (Ⅱ) - ὑπὸ δὲ του̃τον τὸν καιρὸν εἰ̃πεν κύριος τω̨̃ 'Ιησοι̃ ποίησον σεαυτω̨̃ μαχαίρας πετρίνας ἐκ πέτρας ἀκροτόμου καὶ καθίσας περίτεμε τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - Eo tempore ait Dominus ad Josue : Fac tibi cultros lapideos, et circumcide secundo filios Israël. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃5 בעת ההיא אמר יהוה אל יהושע עשה לך חרבות צרים ושוב מל את בני ישראל שנית (Ⅴ)

And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
- Josué se fit des couteaux de pierre, et il circoncit les enfants d'Israël sur la colline d'Araloth. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐποίησεν 'Ιησου̃ς μαχαίρας πετρίνας ἀκροτόμους καὶ περιέτεμεν τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ ἐπὶ του̃ καλουμένου τόπου Βουνὸς τω̃ν ἀκροβυστιω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Fecit quod jusserat Dominus, et circumcidit filios Israël in colle præputiorum. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃5 ויעש לו יהושע חרבות צרים וימל את בני ישראל אל גבעת הערלות (Ⅴ)

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.
- Voici la raison pour laquelle Josué les circoncit. Tout le peuple sorti d'Égypte, les mâles, tous les hommes de guerre, étaient morts dans le désert, pendant la route, après leur sortie d'Égypte. (Ⅱ) - ὃν δὲ τρόπον περιεκάθαρεν 'Ιησου̃ς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ ὅσοι ποτὲ ἐγένοντο ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ καὶ ὅσοι ποτὲ ἀπερίτμητοι ἠ̃σαν τω̃ν ἐξεληλυθότων ἐξ Αἰγύπτου (Ⅲ) - Hæc autem causa est secundæ circumcisionis : omnis populus, qui egressus est de Ægypto generis masculini, universi bellatores viri, mortui sunt in deserto per longissimos viæ circuitus, (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃5 וזה הדבר אשר מל יהושע כל העם היצא ממצרים הזכרים כל אנשי המלחמה מתו במדבר בדרך בצאתם ממצרים (Ⅴ)

Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.
- Tout ce peuple sorti d'Égypte était circoncis; mais tout le peuple né dans le désert, pendant la route, après la sortie d'Égypte, n'avait point été circoncis. (Ⅱ) - πάντας τούτους περιέτεμεν 'Ιησου̃ς (Ⅲ) - qui omnes circumcisi erant. Populus autem qui natus est in deserto, (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃5 כי מלים היו כל העם היצאים וכל העם הילדים במדבר בדרך בצאתם ממצרים לא מלו (Ⅴ)

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not show them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
- Car les enfants d'Israël avaient marché quarante ans dans le désert jusqu'à la destruction de toute la nation des hommes de guerre qui étaient sortis d'Égypte et qui n'avaient point écouté la voix de l'Éternel; l'Éternel leur jura de ne pas leur faire voir le pays qu'il avait juré à leurs pères de nous donner, pays où coulent le lait et le miel. (Ⅱ) - τεσσαράκοντα γὰρ καὶ δύο ἔτη ἀνέστραπται Ισραηλ ἐν τη̨̃ ἐρήμω̨ τη̨̃ Μαδβαρίτιδι διὸ ἀπερίτμητοι ἠ̃σαν οἱ πλει̃στοι αὐτω̃ν τω̃ν μαχίμων τω̃ν ἐξεληλυθότων ἐκ γη̃ς Αἰγύπτου οἱ ἀπειθήσαντες τω̃ν ἐντολω̃ν του̃ θεου̃ οἱ̃ς καὶ διώρισεν μὴ ἰδει̃ν αὐτοὺς τὴν γη̃ν ἣν ὤμοσεν κύριος τοι̃ς πατράσιν αὐτω̃ν δου̃ναι ἡμι̃ν γη̃ν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι (Ⅲ) - per quadraginta annos itineris latissimæ solitudinis incircumcisus fuit : donec consumerentur qui non audierant vocem Domini, et quibus ante juraverat ut non ostenderet eis terram lacte et melle manantem. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃5 כי ארבעים שנה הלכו בני ישראל במדבר עד תם כל הגוי אנשי המלחמה היצאים ממצרים אשר לא שמעו בקול יהוה אשר נשבע יהוה להם לבלתי הראותם את הארץ אשר נשבע יהוה לאבותם לתת לנו ארץ זבת חלב ודבש (Ⅴ)

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.
- Ce sont leurs enfants qu'il établit à leur place; et Josué les circoncit, car ils étaient incirconcis, parce qu'on ne les avait point circoncis pendant la route. (Ⅱ) - ἀντὶ δὲ τούτων ἀντικατέστησεν τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτω̃ν οὓς 'Ιησου̃ς περιέτεμεν διὰ τὸ αὐτοὺς γεγενη̃σθαι κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἀπεριτμήτους (Ⅲ) - Horum filii in locum successerunt patrum, et circumcisi sunt a Josue : quia sicut nati fuerant, in præputio erant, nec eos in via aliquis circumciderat. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃5 ואת בניהם הקים תחתם אתם מל יהושע כי ערלים היו כי לא מלו אותם בדרך (Ⅴ)

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
- Lorsqu'on eut achevé de circoncire toute la nation, ils restèrent à leur place dans le camp jusqu'à leur guérison. (Ⅱ) - περιτμηθέντες δὲ ἡσυχίαν εἰ̃χον αὐτόθι καθήμενοι ἐν τη̨̃ παρεμβολη̨̃ ἕως ὑγιάσθησαν (Ⅲ) - Postquam autem omnes circumcisi sunt, manserunt in eodem castrorum loco, donec sanarentur. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃5 ויהי כאשר תמו כל הגוי להמול וישבו תחתם במחנה עד חיותם פ (Ⅴ)

And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.
- L'Éternel dit à Josué: Aujourd'hui, j'ai roulé de dessus vous l'opprobre de l'Égypte. Et ce lieu fut appelé du nom de Guilgal jusqu'à ce jour. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν κύριος τω̨̃ 'Ιησοι̃ υἱω̨̃ Ναυη ἐν τη̨̃ σήμερον ἡμέρα̨ ἀφει̃λον τὸν ὀνειδισμὸν Αἰγύπτου ἀφ' ὑμω̃ν καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα του̃ τόπου ἐκείνου Γαλγαλα (Ⅲ) - Dixitque Dominus ad Josue : Hodie abstuli opprobrium Ægypti a vobis. Vocatumque est nomen loci illius Galgala, usque in præsentem diem.\ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃5 ויאמר יהוה אל יהושע היום גלותי את חרפת מצרים מעליכם ויקרא שם המקום ההוא גלגל עד היום הזה (Ⅴ)

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
- Les enfants d'Israël campèrent à Guilgal; et ils célébrèrent la Pâque le quatorzième jour du mois, sur le soir, dans les plaines de Jéricho. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ πασχα τη̨̃ τεσσαρεσκαιδεκάτη̨ ἡμέρα̨ του̃ μηνὸς ἀπὸ ἑσπέρας ἐπὶ δυσμω̃ν Ιεριχω ἐν τω̨̃ πέραν του̃ Ιορδάνου ἐν τω̨̃ πεδίω̨ (Ⅲ) - Manseruntque filii Israël in Galgalis, et fecerunt Phase quartadecima die mensis ad vesperum in campestribus Jericho : (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃5 ויחנו בני ישראל בגלגל ויעשו את הפסח בארבעה עשר יום לחדש בערב בערבות יריחו (Ⅴ)

And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
- Ils mangèrent du blé du pays le lendemain de la Pâque, des pains sans levain et du grain rôti; ils en mangèrent ce même jour. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐφάγοσαν ἀπὸ του̃ σίτου τη̃ς γη̃ς ἄζυμα καὶ νέα ἐν ταύτη̨ τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ (Ⅲ) - et comederunt de frugibus terræ die altero, azymos panes, et polentam ejusdem anni. (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃5 ויאכלו מעבור הארץ ממחרת הפסח מצות וקלוי בעצם היום הזה (Ⅴ)

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
- La manne cessa le lendemain de la Pâque, quand ils mangèrent du blé du pays; les enfants d'Israël n'eurent plus de manne, et ils mangèrent des produits du pays de Canaan cette année-là. (Ⅱ) - ἐξέλιπεν τὸ μαννα μετὰ τὸ βεβρωκέναι αὐτοὺς ἐκ του̃ σίτου τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ οὐκέτι ὑπη̃ρχεν τοι̃ς υἱοι̃ς Ισραηλ μαννα ἐκαρπίσαντο δὲ τὴν χώραν τω̃ν Φοινίκων ἐν τω̨̃ ἐνιαυτω̨̃ ἐκείνω̨ (Ⅲ) - Defecitque manna postquam comederunt de frugibus terræ, nec usi sunt ultra cibo illo filii Israël, sed comederunt de frugibus præsentis anni terræ Chanaan.\ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃5 וישבת המן ממחרת באכלם מעבור הארץ ולא היה עוד לבני ישראל מן ויאכלו מתבואת ארץ כנען בשנה ההיא ס (Ⅴ)

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
- Comme Josué était près de Jéricho, il leva les yeux, et regarda. Voici, un homme se tenait debout devant lui, son épée nue dans la main. Il alla vers lui, et lui dit: Es-tu des nôtres ou de nos ennemis? (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἠ̃ν 'Ιησου̃ς ἐν Ιεριχω καὶ ἀναβλέψας τοι̃ς ὀφθαλμοι̃ς εἰ̃δεν ἄνθρωπον ἑστηκότα ἐναντίον αὐτου̃ καὶ ἡ ῥομφαία ἐσπασμένη ἐν τη̨̃ χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ προσελθὼν 'Ιησου̃ς εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ ἡμέτερος εἰ̃ ἢ τω̃ν ὑπεναντίων (Ⅲ) - Cum autem esset Josue in agro urbis Jericho, levavit oculos, et vidit virum stantem contra se, evaginatum tenentem gladium : perrexitque ad eum, et ait : Noster es, an adversariorum ? (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃5 ויהי בהיות יהושע ביריחו וישא עיניו וירא והנה איש עמד לנגדו וחרבו שלופה בידו וילך יהושע אליו ויאמר לו הלנו אתה אם לצרינו (Ⅴ)

And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?
- Il répondit: Non, mais je suis le chef de l'armée de l'Éternel, j'arrive maintenant. Josué tomba le visage contre terre, se prosterna, et lui dit: Qu'est-ce que mon seigneur dit à son serviteur? (Ⅱ) - ὁ δὲ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ ἐγὼ ἀρχιστράτηγος δυνάμεως κυρίου νυνὶ παραγέγονα καὶ 'Ιησου̃ς ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ δέσποτα τί προστάσσεις τω̨̃ σω̨̃ οἰκέτη̨ (Ⅲ) - Qui respondit : Nequaquam : sed sum princeps exercitus Domini, et nunc venio. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃5 ויאמר לא כי אני שר צבא יהוה עתה באתי ויפל יהושע אל פניו ארצה וישתחו ויאמר לו מה אדני מדבר אל עבדו (Ⅴ)

And the captain of the LORD's host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
- Et le chef de l'armée de l'Éternel dit à Josué: Ote tes souliers de tes pieds, car le lieu sur lequel tu te tiens est saint. Et Josué fit ainsi. (Ⅱ) - καὶ λέγει ὁ ἀρχιστράτηγος κυρίου πρὸς 'Ιησου̃ν λυ̃σαι τὸ ὑπόδημα ἐκ τω̃ν ποδω̃ν σου ὁ γὰρ τόπος ἐφ' ὡ̨̃ σὺ ἕστηκας ἅγιός ἐστιν (Ⅲ) - Cecidit Josue pronus in terram, et adorans ait : Quid dominus meus loquitur ad servum suum ?
(5:16 ) Solve, inquit, calceamentum tuum de pedibus tuis : locus enim, in quo stas, sanctus est. Fecitque Josue ut sibi fuerat imperatum. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃5 ויאמר שר צבא יהוה אל יהושע של נעלך מעל רגלך כי המקום אשר אתה עמד עליו קדש הוא ויעש יהושע כן (Ⅴ)
