بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ) - In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ) - Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ) - Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ
- Ya ayyuha almuddaththiru (Ⅰ) - O you enveloped in your cloak! (Ⅱ) - O thou enveloped in thy cloak, (Ⅲ) - O thou shrouded in thy mantle, (Ⅳ) - O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! (Ⅵ)

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
- Qum faanthir (Ⅰ) - Arise and warn, (Ⅱ) - Arise and warn! (Ⅲ) - arise, and warn! (Ⅳ) - Arise and deliver thy warning! (Ⅵ)
|

|
|
74.
3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
- Warabbaka fakabbir (Ⅰ) - And magnify your Lord, (Ⅱ) - Thy Lord magnify, (Ⅲ) - Thy Lord magnify (Ⅳ) - And thy Lord do thou magnify! (Ⅵ)

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
- Wathiyabaka fatahhir (Ⅰ) - And your cloak do purify, (Ⅱ) - Thy raiment purify, (Ⅲ) - thy robes purify (Ⅳ) - And thy garments keep free from stain! (Ⅵ)

وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ
- Waalrrujza faohjur (Ⅰ) - And uncleanness do shun, (Ⅱ) - Pollution shun! (Ⅲ) - and defilement flee! (Ⅳ) - And all abomination shun! (Ⅵ)

74.

وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
- Wala tamnun tastakthiru (Ⅰ) - And bestow not favours that you may receive again with increase, (Ⅱ) - And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! (Ⅲ) - Give not, thinking to gain greater (Ⅳ) - Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! (Ⅵ)

74.

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ
- Walirabbika faisbir (Ⅰ) - And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. (Ⅱ) - For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! (Ⅲ) - and be patient unto thy Lord. (Ⅳ) - But, for thy Lord´s (Cause), be patient and constant! (Ⅵ)

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ
- Faitha nuqira fee alnnaqoori (Ⅰ) - For when the trumpet is sounded, (Ⅱ) - For when the trumpet shall sound, (Ⅲ) - For when the Trump is sounded (Ⅳ) - Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, (Ⅵ)

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
- Fathalika yawmaithin yawmun AAaseerun (Ⅰ) - That, at that time, shall be a Day of distress, (Ⅱ) - Surely that day will be a day of anguish, (Ⅲ) - that day will be a harsh day, (Ⅳ) - That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- (Ⅵ)

عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
- AAala alkafireena ghayru yaseerin (Ⅰ) - Far from easy for the unbelievers. (Ⅱ) - Not of ease, for disbelievers. (Ⅲ) - for the unbelievers not easy. (Ⅳ) - Far from easy for those without Faith. (Ⅵ)

ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
- Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheedan (Ⅰ) - Leave Me alone to deal with him whom I created, (Ⅱ) - Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, (Ⅲ) - Leave Me with him whom I created alone, (Ⅳ) - Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- (Ⅵ)

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
- WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdoodan (Ⅰ) - And gave vast riches, (Ⅱ) - And then bestowed upon him ample means, (Ⅲ) - and appointed for him ample wealth (Ⅳ) - To whom I granted resources in abundance, (Ⅵ)

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
- Wabaneena shuhoodan (Ⅰ) - And sons to be by his side, (Ⅱ) - And sons abiding in his presence (Ⅲ) - and sons standing before him, (Ⅳ) - And sons to be by his side!- (Ⅵ)

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا
- Wamahhadtu lahu tamheedan (Ⅰ) - And I adjusted the affairs of life to go smoothly and appropriately for him; (Ⅱ) - And made (life) smooth for him. (Ⅲ) - and made all things smooth for him; (Ⅳ) - To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! (Ⅵ)

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
- Thumma yatmaAAu an azeeda (Ⅰ) - And yet he desires that I should add more! (Ⅱ) - Yet he desireth that I should give more. (Ⅲ) - then he is eager that I should do more. (Ⅳ) - Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- (Ⅵ)

16
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا
- Kalla innahu kana liayatina AAaneedan (Ⅰ) - By no means! For lo! He stubbornly opposes Our revelations. (Ⅱ) - Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. (Ⅲ) - Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; (Ⅳ) - By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! (Ⅵ)

سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا
- Saorhiquhu saAAoodan (Ⅰ) - 1 will impose on him a fearful doom. (Ⅱ) - On him I shall impose a fearful doom. (Ⅲ) - and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. (Ⅳ) - Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! (Ⅵ)

إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
- Innahu fakkara waqaddara (Ⅰ) - Surely he reflected and then plotted, (Ⅱ) - For lo! he did consider; then he planned - (Ⅲ) - Lo! He reflected, and determined -- (Ⅳ) - For he thought and he plotted;- (Ⅵ)

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
- Faqutila kayfa qaddara (Ⅰ) - But woe to him for how he plotted! (Ⅱ) - (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! (Ⅲ) - death seize him, how he determined! (Ⅳ) - And woe to him! How he plotted!- (Ⅵ)

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
- Thumma qutila kayfa qaddara (Ⅰ) - Again, woe to him for how he plotted! (Ⅱ) - Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - (Ⅲ) - Again, death seize him, how he determined! (Ⅳ) - Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- (Ⅵ)

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
- Thumma nathara (Ⅰ) - Then he looked around, (Ⅱ) - Then looked he, (Ⅲ) - Then he beheld, (Ⅳ) - Then he looked round; (Ⅵ)
|

74.
22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
- Thumma AAabasa wabasara (Ⅰ) - Then he frowned and scowled, (Ⅱ) - Then frowned he and showed displeasure. (Ⅲ) - then he frowned, and scowled, (Ⅳ) - Then he frowned and he scowled; (Ⅵ)

74.

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ
- Thumma adbara waistakbara (Ⅰ) - Then he turned back and was inflated with pride, (Ⅱ) - Then turned he away in pride (Ⅲ) - then he retreated, and waxed proud. (Ⅳ) - Then he turned back and was haughty; (Ⅵ)

74.
24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
- Faqala in hatha illa sihrun yutharu (Ⅰ) - Then he said, "This is naught but enchantment, narrated of olden days; (Ⅱ) - And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; (Ⅲ) - He said, ´This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; (Ⅳ) - Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; (Ⅵ)

74.
25
إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ
- In hatha illa qawlu albashari (Ⅰ) - "This is naught but the word of a mortal." (Ⅱ) - This is naught else than speech of mortal man. (Ⅲ) - ´this is nothing but mortal speech.´ (Ⅳ) - "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" (Ⅵ)

26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
- Saosleehi saqara (Ⅰ) - Soon will I cast him into the burning (Hell-fire). (Ⅱ) - Him shall I fling unto the burning. (Ⅲ) - I shall surely roast him in Sakar; (Ⅳ) - Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! (Ⅵ)

27
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ
- Wama adraka ma saqaru (Ⅰ) - And what will make you understand what the burning (Hell-fire) is? (Ⅱ) - - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - (Ⅲ) - and what will teach thee what is Sakar? (Ⅳ) - And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? (Ⅵ)

74.
28
لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ
- La tubqee wala tatharu (Ⅰ) - It leaves naught, it spares naught. (Ⅱ) - It leaveth naught; it spareth naught (Ⅲ) - It spares not, neither leaves alone (Ⅳ) - Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- (Ⅵ)

29
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
- Lawwahatun lilbashari (Ⅰ) - It scorches (darkens the colour) and shrivels the mortal. (Ⅱ) - It shrivelleth the man. (Ⅲ) - scorching the flesh; (Ⅳ) - Darkening and changing the colour of man! (Ⅵ)

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
- AAalayha tisAAata AAashara (Ⅰ) - Over it are nineteen. (Ⅱ) - Above it are nineteen. (Ⅲ) - over it are nineteen. (Ⅳ) - Over it are Nineteen. (Ⅵ)

وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
- Wama jaAAalna ashaba alnnari illa malaikatan wama jaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheena kafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitaba wayazdada allatheena amanoo eemanan wala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitaba waalmuminoona waliyaqoola allatheena fee quloobihim maradun waalkafiroona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalika yudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashao wama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wama hiya illa thikra lilbashari (Ⅰ) - And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the Book (scriptures) may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose heart is a disease and the unbelievers may say, "What does Allah mean by this parable?" Thus does Allah make err whom He wills, and He guides whom He wills, and none knows the hosts (or forces) of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. (Ⅱ) - We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude ? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. (Ⅲ) - We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, ´What did God intend by this as a similitude?´ So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. (Ⅳ) - And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. (Ⅵ)

كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ
- Kalla waalqamari (Ⅰ) - Nay; I swear by (or call to witness) the moon, (Ⅱ) - Nay, by the Moon (Ⅲ) - Nay! By the moon (Ⅳ) - Nay, verily: By the Moon, (Ⅵ)

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
- Waallayli ith adbara (Ⅰ) - And by the night when it departs, (Ⅱ) - And the night when it withdraweth (Ⅲ) - and the night when it retreats (Ⅳ) - And by the Night as it retreateth, (Ⅵ)

وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ
- Waalssubhi itha asfara (Ⅰ) - And by the Dawn when it shines forth; (Ⅱ) - And the dawn when it shineth forth, (Ⅲ) - and the dawn when it is white, (Ⅳ) - And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- (Ⅵ)

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ
- Innaha laihda alkubari (Ⅰ) - Surely, this is but one of the mighty Signs, (Ⅱ) - Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) (Ⅲ) - surely it is one of the greatest things (Ⅳ) - This is but one of the mighty (portents), (Ⅵ)

نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
- Natheeran lilbashari (Ⅰ) - A warning to mortals, (Ⅱ) - As a warning unto men, (Ⅲ) - as a warner to mortals. (Ⅳ) - A warning to mankind,- (Ⅵ)

لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
- Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama aw yataakhkhara (Ⅰ) - To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. (Ⅱ) - Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. (Ⅲ) - to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. (Ⅳ) - To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- (Ⅵ)

38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
- Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheenatun (Ⅰ) - Every soul is held in pledge for its own deeds, (Ⅱ) - Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; (Ⅲ) - Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, (Ⅳ) - Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. (Ⅵ)

إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ
- Illa ashaba alyameeni (Ⅰ) - Except the people of the right hand, (Ⅱ) - Save those who will stand on the right hand. (Ⅲ) - save the Companions of the Right; (Ⅳ) - Except the Companions of the Right Hand. (Ⅵ)

40
فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
- Fee jannatin yatasaaloona (Ⅰ) - In Gardens, they shall ask each other (Ⅱ) - In gardens they will ask one another (Ⅲ) - in Gardens they will question (Ⅳ) - (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, (Ⅵ)

عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
- AAani almujrimeena (Ⅰ) - And ask the guilty, (Ⅱ) - Concerning the guilty: (Ⅲ) - concerning the sinners, (Ⅳ) - And (ask) of the Sinners: (Ⅵ)

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ
- Ma salakakum fee saqara (Ⅰ) - "What has brought you into hell?" (Ⅱ) - What hath brought you to this burning ? (Ⅲ) - ´What thrusted you into Sakar?´ (Ⅳ) - "What led you into Hell Fire?" (Ⅵ)

قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ
- Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleena (Ⅰ) - They shall say, "We were not of those who prayed; (Ⅱ) - They will answer: We were not of those who prayed (Ⅲ) - They shall say, ´We were not of those who prayed, and (Ⅳ) - They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; (Ⅵ)

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ
- Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeena (Ⅰ) - "And we used not to feed the poor; (Ⅱ) - Nor did we feed the wretched. (Ⅲ) - we fed not the needy, (Ⅳ) - "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; (Ⅵ)

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ
- Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkhaideena (Ⅰ) - "And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. (Ⅱ) - We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, (Ⅲ) - and we plunged along with the plungers, (Ⅳ) - "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; (Ⅵ)

46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
- Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi alddeeni (Ⅰ) - "And we used to call the Day of Judgment a lie; (Ⅱ) - And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, (Ⅲ) - and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, (Ⅳ) - "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, (Ⅵ)

حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ
- Hatta atana alyaqeenu (Ⅰ) - "Till the inevitable event (death) overtook us." (Ⅱ) - Till the Inevitable came unto us. (Ⅲ) - till the Certain came to us.´ -- (Ⅳ) - "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." (Ⅵ)

48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ
- Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu alshshafiAAeena (Ⅰ) - The intercession of no mediators shall avail them then. (Ⅱ) - The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. (Ⅲ) - Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. (Ⅳ) - Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. (Ⅵ)

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
- Fama lahum AAani alttathkirati muAArideena (Ⅰ) - What is then the matter with them that they turn away from the admonition, (Ⅱ) - Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, (Ⅲ) - What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, (Ⅳ) - Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- (Ⅵ)
