100
أَوَلَمْ يَهْدِ لِلَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ الْأَرْضَ مِن بَعْدِ أَهْلِهَا أَن لَّوْ نَشَاءُ أَصَبْنَاهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۚ وَنَطْبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ
- Awalam yahdi lillatheena yarithoona alarda min baAAdi ahliha an law nashao asabnahum bithunoobihim wanatbaAAu AAala quloobihim fahum la yasmaAAoona (Ⅰ) - Is it not a guidance (lesson) shown to those who inherit the earth after its (former) people, that, did We please, We would smite them in their sins, and would set a stamp upon their heart that they should not hear? (Ⅱ) - Is it not an indication to those who inherit the land after its people (who thus reaped the consequence of evil-doing) that, if We will, We can smite them for their sins and print upon their hearts so that they hear not ? (Ⅲ) - Is it not a guidance to those who inherit the earth after those who inhabited it that, did We will, We would smite them because of their sins, sealing their hearts so they do not hear? (Ⅳ) - To those who inherit the earth in succession to its (previous) possessors, is it not a guiding, (lesson) that, if We so willed, We could punish them (too) for their sins, and seal up their hearts so that they could not hear? (Ⅵ)

101
تِلْكَ الْقُرَىٰ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنبَائِهَا ۚ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَمَا كَانُوا لِيُؤْمِنُوا بِمَا كَذَّبُوا مِن قَبْلُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ الْكَافِرِينَ
- Tilka alqura naqussu AAalayka min anbaiha walaqad jaathum rusuluhum bialbayyinati fama kanoo liyuminoo bima kaththaboo min qablu kathalika yatbaAAu Allahu AAala quloobi alkafireena (Ⅰ) - Such were these cities. We do relate to you their stories. There came to them Our Messengers with manifest Signs; but they would not believe because of what they had rejected before. Thus does Allah seal up their heart of those who disbelieve. (Ⅱ) - Such were the townships. We relate some tidings of them unto thee (Muhammad). Their messengers verily came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but they could not believe because they had before denied. Thus doth Allah print upon the hearts of disbelievers (that they hear not). (Ⅲ) - Those cities We relate to thee tidings of; their Messengers came to them with the clear signs, but they were not the ones to believe in that they had cried lies before; so God seals the hearts of the unbelievers. (Ⅳ) - Such were the towns whose story We (thus) relate unto thee: There came indeed to them their messengers with clear (signs): But they would not believe what they had rejected before. Thus doth Allah seal up the hearts of those who reject faith. (Ⅵ)

7.
102
وَمَا وَجَدْنَا لِأَكْثَرِهِم مِّنْ عَهْدٍ ۖ وَإِن وَجَدْنَا أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَفَاسِقِينَ
- Wama wajadna liaktharihim min AAahdin wain wajadna aktharahum lafasiqeena (Ⅰ) - Nor did We find most of them true to their covenant; but We did find most of them workers of abomination. (Ⅱ) - We found no (loyalty to any) covenant in most of them. Nay, most of them We found wrong-doers. (Ⅲ) - We found no covenant in the most part of them; indeed, We found the most part of them ungodly. (Ⅳ) - Most of them We found not men (true) to their covenant: but most of them We found rebellious and disobedient. (Ⅵ)

103
ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَظَلَمُوا بِهَا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُفْسِدِينَ
- Thumma baAAathna min baAAdihim moosa biayatina ila firAAawna wamalaihi fathalamoo biha faonuthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu almufsideena (Ⅰ) - Then We raised up after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs; but they dealt unjustly with them. So see what was the consequence for these evildoers (corrupters, mischief-makers)! (Ⅱ) - Then, after them, We sent Moses with our tokens unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they repelled them. Now, see the nature of the consequence for the corrupters! (Ⅲ) - Then We sent, after them, Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his Council, but they did them wrong; so behold thou, how was the end of the workers of corruption! (Ⅳ) - Then after them We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they wrongfully rejected them: So see what was the end of those who made mischief. (Ⅵ)

104
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ يَا فِرْعَوْنُ إِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
- Waqala moosa ya firAAawnu innee rasoolun min rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - Moses said, "O Pharaoh! Verily, I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds. (Ⅱ) - Moses said: O Pharaoh! Lo! I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds, (Ⅲ) - Moses said, ´Pharaoh, I am a Messenger from the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ) - Moses said: "O Pharaoh! I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds,- (Ⅵ)

105
حَقِيقٌ عَلَىٰ أَن لَّا أَقُولَ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْحَقَّ ۚ قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِبَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعِيَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
- Haqeequn AAala an la aqoola AAala Allahi illa alhaqqa qad jitukum bibayyinatin min rabbikum faarsil maAAiya banee israeela (Ⅰ) - One, for whom it is not right to speak against Allah aught but the truth. I have come to you with a manifest sign from my Lord. Send, then, the children of Israel with me." (Ⅱ) - Approved upon condition that I speak concerning Allah nothing but the truth. I come unto you (lords of Egypt) with a clear proof from your Lord. So let the Children of Israel go with me. (Ⅲ) - worthy to say nothing regarding God except the truth. I have brought a clear sign to you from your Lord; so send forth with me the Children of Israel.´ (Ⅳ) - One for whom it is right to say nothing but truth about Allah. Now have I come unto you (people), from your Lord, with a clear (Sign): So let the Children of Israel depart along with me." (Ⅵ)

7.
106
قَالَ إِن كُنتَ جِئْتَ بِآيَةٍ فَأْتِ بِهَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
- Qala in kunta jita biayatin fati biha in kunta mina alssadiqeena (Ⅰ) - Said he (Pharaoh), "If you have come with a Sign, then bring it, if you are truthful." (Ⅱ) - (Pharaoh) said: If thou comest with a token, then produce it, if thou art of those who speak the truth. (Ⅲ) - Said he, ´If thou hast brought a sign, produce it, if thou speakest truly.´ (Ⅳ) - (Pharaoh) said: "If indeed thou hast come with a Sign, show it forth,- if thou tellest the truth." (Ⅵ)

107
فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
- Faalqa AAasahu faitha hiya thuAAbanun mubeenun (Ⅰ) - Then he (Moses) threw his rod down, and lo! It was a manifest serpent; (Ⅱ) - Then he flung down his staff and lo! it was a serpent manifest; (Ⅲ) - So he cast his staff; and behold, it was a serpent manifest. (Ⅳ) - Then (Moses) threw his rod, and behold! it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)! (Ⅵ)

108
وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَاءُ لِلنَّاظِرِينَ
- WanazaAAa yadahu faitha hiya baydao lilnnathireena (Ⅰ) - And he drew out his hand, and lo! It was white to the beholders. (Ⅱ) - And he drew forth his hand (from his bosom), and lo! it was white for the beholders. (Ⅲ) - And he drew forth his hand, and lo, it was white to the beholders. (Ⅳ) - And he drew out his hand, and behold! it was white to all beholders! (Ⅵ)

109
قَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَاحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ
- Qala almalao min qawmi firAAawna inna hatha lasahirun AAaleemun (Ⅰ) - Said the chiefs of Pharaoh´s people, "Verily, this is surely a knowing (expert) magician; (Ⅱ) - The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, (Ⅲ) - Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, ´Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer (Ⅳ) - Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. (Ⅵ)

110
يُرِيدُ أَن يُخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُمْ ۖ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ
- Yureedu an yukhrijakum min ardikum famatha tamuroona (Ⅰ) - He desires to turn you out of your land. What is it, then, your advise? (Ⅱ) - Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise ? (Ⅲ) - who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?´ (Ⅳ) - "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" (Ⅵ)

111
قَالُوا أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَأَرْسِلْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ
- Qaloo arjih waakhahu waarsil fee almadaini hashireena (Ⅰ) - They said, "Delay him and his brother, and send summoners into the cities; (Ⅱ) - They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, (Ⅲ) - They said, ´Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, (Ⅳ) - They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- (Ⅵ)

7.
112
يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَاحِرٍ عَلِيمٍ
- Yatooka bikulli sahirin AAaleemin (Ⅰ) - To bring unto you every knowing (expert) magician." (Ⅱ) - To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. (Ⅲ) - to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.´ (Ⅳ) - And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." (Ⅵ)

113
وَجَاءَ السَّحَرَةُ فِرْعَوْنَ قَالُوا إِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ الْغَالِبِينَ
- Wajaa alssaharatu firAAawna qaloo inna lana laajran in kunna nahnu alghalibeena (Ⅰ) - And the magician came to Pharaoh and said, "Is there, indeed, a reward for us if we are victors? (Ⅱ) - And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. (Ⅲ) - And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, ´We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?´ (Ⅳ) - So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" (Ⅵ)

114
قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ لَمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
- Qala naAAam wainnakum lamina almuqarrabeena (Ⅰ) - He answered, "Yea! And you shall be of those who are brought nigh unto me (given high posts, ranks or honour)." (Ⅱ) - He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). (Ⅲ) - He said, ´Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.´ (Ⅳ) - He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." (Ⅵ)

115
قَالُوا يَا مُوسَىٰ إِمَّا أَن تُلْقِيَ وَإِمَّا أَن نَّكُونَ نَحْنُ الْمُلْقِينَ
- Qaloo ya moosa imma an tulqiya waimma an nakoona nahnu almulqeena (Ⅰ) - They said, "O Moses! Will you cast down (your rod) or shall we be (first) to throw?" (Ⅱ) - They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers ? (Ⅲ) - They said, ´Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?´ (Ⅳ) - They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" (Ⅵ)

116
قَالَ أَلْقُوا ۖ فَلَمَّا أَلْقَوْا سَحَرُوا أَعْيُنَ النَّاسِ وَاسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْ وَجَاءُوا بِسِحْرٍ عَظِيمٍ
- Qala alqoo falamma alqaw saharoo aAAyuna alnnasi waistarhaboohum wajaoo bisihrin AAatheemin (Ⅰ) - Said he, "Throw first". And when they threw down their rods, they bewitched (hypnotized) the people´s eyes, and struck terror into them, for they did a mighty magic. (Ⅱ) - He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. (Ⅲ) - He said, ´You cast.´ And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people´s eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. (Ⅳ) - Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. (Ⅵ)

117
۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنْ أَلْقِ عَصَاكَ ۖ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ
- Waawhayna ila moosa an alqi AAasaka faitha hiya talqafu ma yafikoona (Ⅰ) - But We inspired Moses (saying), "Throw down your rod." and it swallowed up their lying show. (Ⅱ) - And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. (Ⅲ) - And We revealed to Moses: ´Cast thy staff!´ And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. (Ⅳ) - We put it into Moses´s mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod":and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! (Ⅵ)

7.
118
فَوَقَعَ الْحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
- FawaqaAAa alhaqqu wabatala ma kanoo yaAAmaloona (Ⅰ) - And the truth stood fast, and vain was that which they had done. (Ⅱ) - Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. (Ⅲ) - So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. (Ⅳ) - Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. (Ⅵ)

119
فَغُلِبُوا هُنَالِكَ وَانقَلَبُوا صَاغِرِينَ
- Faghuliboo hunalika wainqalaboo saghireena (Ⅰ) - Thus were they vanquished there, and turned back humiliated! (Ⅱ) - Thus were they there defeated and brought low. (Ⅲ) - So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. (Ⅳ) - So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. (Ⅵ)

7.
120
وَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ
- Waolqiya alssaharatu sajideena (Ⅰ) - And the magicians threw themselves down in prostration. (Ⅱ) - And the wizards fell down prostrate, (Ⅲ) - And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. (Ⅳ) - But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. (Ⅵ)

121
قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
- Qaloo amanna birabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - Said they, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, (Ⅱ) - Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, (Ⅲ) - They said, ´We believe in the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ) - Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- (Ⅵ)

122
رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ
- Rabbi moosa waharoona (Ⅰ) - The Lord of Moses and Aaron." (Ⅱ) - The Lord of Moses and Aaron. (Ⅲ) - the Lord of Moses and Aaron. (Ⅳ) - "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." (Ⅵ)

123
قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ آمَنتُم بِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ آذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَمَكْرٌ مَّكَرْتُمُوهُ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ لِتُخْرِجُوا مِنْهَا أَهْلَهَا ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
- Qala firAAawnu amantum bihi qabla an athana lakum inna hatha lamakrun makartumoohu fee almadeenati litukhrijoo minha ahlaha fasawfa taAAlamoona (Ⅰ) - Said Pharaoh, "Do you believe in him ere I give you permission? This is a plot which you have devised in the land, to drive its people hence. But soon shall you know (the consequences)! (Ⅱ) - Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! (Ⅲ) - Said Pharaoh, ´You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! (Ⅳ) - Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). (Ⅵ)

124
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَافٍ ثُمَّ لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
- LaoqatiAAanna aydiyakum waarjulakum min khilafin thumma laosallibannakum ajmaAAeena (Ⅰ) - I will cut off your hands and your feet from opposite sides, then I will crucify you every one!" (Ⅱ) - Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. (Ⅲ) - I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.´ (Ⅳ) - "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." (Ⅵ)

125
قَالُوا إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ
- Qaloo inna ila rabbina munqaliboona (Ⅰ) - They said, "Verily, we return unto our Lord! (Ⅱ) - They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! (Ⅲ) - They said, ´Surely unto our Lord we are turning. (Ⅳ) - They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: (Ⅵ)

126
وَمَا تَنقِمُ مِنَّا إِلَّا أَنْ آمَنَّا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَاءَتْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
- Wama tanqimu minna illa an amanna biayati rabbina lamma jaatna rabbana afrigh AAalayna sabran watawaffana muslimeena (Ⅰ) - Do you take vengeance on us because we believe in the signs of our Lord, when they come to us. Our Lord! Pour out upon us patience and constancy, and take us to Thyself as men who have surrendered (become Muslims)." (Ⅱ) - Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). (Ⅲ) - Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.´ (Ⅳ) - "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! (Ⅵ)

127
وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ أَتَذَرُ مُوسَىٰ وَقَوْمَهُ لِيُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَيَذَرَكَ وَآلِهَتَكَ ۚ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَنَسْتَحْيِي نِسَاءَهُمْ وَإِنَّا فَوْقَهُمْ قَاهِرُونَ
- Waqala almalao min qawmi firAAawna atatharu moosa waqawmahu liyufsidoo fee alardi wayatharaka waalihataka qala sanuqattilu abnaahum wanastahyee nisaahum wainna fawqahum qahiroona (Ⅰ) - And the chiefs of Pharaoh´s people said, "(O King) Will you leave Moses and his people to do mischief in the land, and to flout you and your gods?" Said he, "We will have their sons slain and their women we will spare, for, verily, we have power over them." (Ⅱ) - The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: (O King), wilt thou suffer Moses and his people to make mischief in the land, and flout thee and thy gods ? He said: We will slay their sons and spare their women, for lo! we are in power over them. (Ⅲ) - Then said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, ´Wilt thou leave Moses and his people to work corruption in the land, and leave thee and thy gods?´ Said he, ´We shall slaughter their sons and spare their women; surely we are triumphant over them!´ (Ⅳ) - Said the chiefs of Pharaoh´s people: "Wilt thou leave Moses and his people, to spread mischief in the land, and to abandon thee and thy gods?" He said: "Their male children will we slay; (only) their females will we save alive; and we have over them (power) irresistible." (Ⅵ)

128
قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ اسْتَعِينُوا بِاللَّهِ وَاصْبِرُوا ۖ إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ يُورِثُهَا مَن يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ ۖ وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
- Qala moosa liqawmihi istaAAeenoo biAllahi waisbiroo inna alarda lillahi yoorithuha man yashao min AAibadihi waalAAaqibatu lilmuttaqeena (Ⅰ) - Moses said unto his people, "Seek help from Allah and have endurance. Verily, the earth is Allah´s! He gives it for an inheritance to whom He pleases of His servants, and the future is for those who fear (keep their duty and are righteous)." (Ⅱ) - And Moses said unto his people: Seek help in Allah and endure. Lo! the earth is Allah's. He giveth it for an inheritance to whom He will. And lo! the sequel is for those who keep their duty (unto Him). (Ⅲ) - Said Moses to his people, ´Pray for succour to God, and be patient; surely the earth is God´s and He bequeaths it to whom He will among His servants. The issue ultimate is to the godfearing.´ (Ⅳ) - Said Moses to his people: "Pray for help from Allah, and (wait) in patience and constancy: for the earth is Allah´s, to give as a heritage to such of His servants as He pleaseth; and the end is (best) for the righteous. (Ⅵ)

قَالُوا أُوذِينَا مِن قَبْلِ أَن تَأْتِيَنَا وَمِن بَعْدِ مَا جِئْتَنَا ۚ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُهْلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ
- Qaloo ootheena min qabli an tatiyana wamin baAAdi ma jitana qala AAasa rabbukum an yuhlika AAaduwwakum wayastakhlifakum fee alardi fayanthura kayfa taAAmaloona (Ⅰ) - They said, "We suffered before you did come to us, and also since you have come to us." Said he, "It may be that your Lord will destroy your foe, and will make you vicegerents (inheritors, successors) in the earth, that He may see how you behave." (Ⅱ) - They said: We suffered hurt before thou camest unto us, and since thou hast come unto us. He said: It may be that your Lord is going to destroy your adversary and make you viceroys in the earth, that He may see how ye behave. (Ⅲ) - They said, ´We have been hurt before thou camest to us, and after thou camest to us.´ He said, ´Perchance your Lord will destroy your enemy, and will make you successors in the land, so that He may behold how you shall do.´ (Ⅳ) - They said: "We have had (nothing but) trouble, both before and after thou camest to us." He said: "It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you inheritors in the earth; that so He may try you by your deeds." (Ⅵ)

130
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ بِالسِّنِينَ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ
- Walaqad akhathna ala firAAawna bialssineena wanaqsin mina alththamarati laAAallahum yaththakkaroona (Ⅰ) - We punished Pharaoh´s people with the years (of drought) and scarcity of fruit or crops), that per chance (or possibly) they might remember. (Ⅱ) - And we straitened Pharaoh's folk with famine and dearth of fruits, that peradventure they might heed. (Ⅲ) - Then seized We Pharaoh´s people with years of dearth, and scarcity of fruits, that haply they might remember. (Ⅳ) - We punished the people of Pharaoh with years (of droughts) and shortness of crops; that they might receive admonition. (Ⅵ)

فَإِذَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الْحَسَنَةُ قَالُوا لَنَا هَٰذِهِ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَطَّيَّرُوا بِمُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُ ۗ أَلَا إِنَّمَا طَائِرُهُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
- Faitha jaathumu alhasanatu qaloo lana hathihi wain tusibhum sayyiatun yattayyaroo bimoosa waman maAAahu ala innama tairuhum AAinda Allahi walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona (Ⅰ) - But whenever good (times) came to them they said, "This is due to our effort." And if evil befell them, they ascribed it to the evil influences of Moses and those with him. Surely, the evil influence is only in the hands of Allah. But most of them know not. (Ⅱ) - But whenever good befell them, they said: This is ours; and whenever evil smote them they ascribed it to the evil auspices of Moses and those with him. Surely their evil auspice was only with Allah. But most of them knew not. (Ⅲ) - So, when good came to them, they said, ´This belongs to us´; but if any evil smote them, they would augur ill by Moses and those with him. Why, surely their ill augury was with God; but the most of them knew not. (Ⅳ) - But when good (times) came, they said, "This is due to us;" When gripped by calamity, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Moses and those with him! Behold! in truth the omens of evil are theirs in Allah´s sight, but most of them do not understand! (Ⅵ)

132
وَقَالُوا مَهْمَا تَأْتِنَا بِهِ مِنْ آيَةٍ لِّتَسْحَرَنَا بِهَا فَمَا نَحْنُ لَكَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
- Waqaloo mahma tatina bihi min ayatin litasharana biha fama nahnu laka bimumineena (Ⅰ) - And they said, "Whatever Sign you bring to enchant us, we will not put faith in you.” (Ⅱ) - And they said: Whatever portent thou bringest wherewith to bewitch us, we shall not put faith in thee. (Ⅲ) - And they said, ´Whatsoever sign thou bringest to us, to cast a spell upon us, we will not believe thee.´ (Ⅳ) - They said (to Moses): "Whatever be the Signs thou bringest, to work therewith thy sorcery on us, we shall never believe in thee. (Ⅵ)

133
فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الطُّوفَانَ وَالْجَرَادَ وَالْقُمَّلَ وَالضَّفَادِعَ وَالدَّمَ آيَاتٍ مُّفَصَّلَاتٍ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ
- Faarsalna AAalayhimu alttoofana waaljarada waalqummala waalddafadiAAa waalddama ayatin mufassalatin faistakbaroo wakanoo qawman mujrimeena (Ⅰ) - So We sent upon them the flood and the locusts and the vermin and the frogs and the blood, - a succession of clear Signs. But they were inflated with arrogance, a guilty people. (Ⅱ) - So We sent against them the flood and the locusts and the vermin and the frogs and the blood - a succession of clear signs. But they were arrogant and became a guilty folk. (Ⅲ) - So We let loose upon them the flood and the locusts, the lice and the frogs, the blood, distinct signs; but they waxed proud and were a sinful people. (Ⅳ) - So We sent (plagues) on them: Wholesale death, Locusts, Lice, Frogs, And Blood: Signs openly self-explained: but they were steeped in arrogance,- a people given to sin. (Ⅵ)

134
وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّجْزُ قَالُوا يَا مُوسَى ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ ۖ لَئِن كَشَفْتَ عَنَّا الرِّجْزَ لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
- Walamma waqaAAa AAalayhimu alrrijzu qaloo ya moosa odAAu lana rabbaka bima AAahida AAindaka lain kashafta AAanna alrrijza lanuminanna laka walanursilanna maAAaka banee israeela (Ⅰ) - And when there fell upon them the plague, they said, "O Moses! Call upon your Lord for us, as He has covenanted with you. Verily, if you do remove the plague from us, we will put our trust in you; and we will assuredly let the children of Israel go with you." (Ⅱ) - And when the terror fell on them they cried: O Moses! Pray for us unto thy Lord, because He hath a covenant with thee. If thou removest the terror from us we verily will trust thee and will let the Children of Israel go with thee. (Ⅲ) - And when the wrath fell upon them, they said, ´Moses, pray to thy Lord for us by the covenant He has made with thee. If thou removest from us the wrath, surely we will believe thee, and send forth with thee the Children of Israel.´ (Ⅳ) - Every time the penalty fell on them, they said: "O Moses! on your behalf call on thy Lord in virtue of his promise to thee: If thou wilt remove the penalty from us, we shall truly believe in thee, and we shall send away the Children of Israel with thee." (Ⅵ)

135
فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْزَ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ هُم بَالِغُوهُ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ
- Falamma kashafna AAanhumu alrrijza ila ajalin hum balighoohu itha hum yankuthoona (Ⅰ) - But when We removed the penalty from them, according to an appointed term which they had to fulfil, lo! then they broke their promise. (Ⅱ) - But when We did remove from them the terror for a term which they must reach, behold! they broke their covenant. (Ⅲ) - But when We removed from them the wrath unto a term that they should come to, lo, they broke their troth. (Ⅳ) - But every time We removed the penalty from them according to a fixed term which they had to fulfil,- Behold! they broke their word! (Ⅵ)

136
فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ فِي الْيَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِلِينَ
- Faintaqamna minhum faaghraqnahum fee alyammi biannahum kaththaboo biayatina wakanoo AAanha ghafileena (Ⅰ) - But We took retribution from them, and We drowned them in the sea because they rejected Our Signs, and were careless thereof. (Ⅱ) - Therefore We took retribution from them; therefore We drowned them in the sea: because they denied Our revelations and were heedless of them. (Ⅲ) - So We took vengeance on them, and drowned them in the sea, for that they cried lies to Our signs and heeded them not. (Ⅳ) - So We exacted retribution from them: We drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our Signs and failed to take warning from them. (Ⅵ)

137
وَأَوْرَثْنَا الْقَوْمَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا يُسْتَضْعَفُونَ مَشَارِقَ الْأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا ۖ وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ الْحُسْنَىٰ عَلَىٰ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا ۖ وَدَمَّرْنَا مَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ فِرْعَوْنُ وَقَوْمُهُ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْرِشُونَ
- Waawrathna alqawma allatheena kanoo yustadAAafoona mashariqa alardi wamagharibaha allatee barakna feeha watammat kalimatu rabbika alhusna AAala banee israeela bima sabaroo wadammarna ma kana yasnaAAu firAAawnu waqawmuhu wama kanoo yaAArishoona (Ⅰ) - And We gave unto a people, despised and weak, an inheritance, lands in both east and west, lands which We had blessed. And the good promise of your Lord was fulfiled on the children of Israel, because they were patient and constant. And We utterly destroyed all the works which Pharaoh and his people had done and that which they had devised. (Ⅱ) - And We caused the folk who were despised to inherit the eastern parts of the land and the western parts thereof which We had blessed. And the fair word of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their endurance; and We annihilated (all) that Pharaoh and his folk had done and that they had contrived. (Ⅲ) - And We bequeathed upon the people that were abased all the east and the west of the land We had blessed; and perfectly was fulfilled the most fair word of thy Lord upon the Children of Israel, for that they endured patiently; and We destroyed utterly the works of Pharaoh and his people, and what they had been building. (Ⅳ) - And We made a people, considered weak (and of no account), inheritors of lands in both east and west, - lands whereon We sent down Our blessings. The fair promise of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because they had patience and constancy, and We levelled to the ground the great works and fine buildings which Pharaoh and his people erected (with such pride). (Ⅵ)

138
وَجَاوَزْنَا بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْبَحْرَ فَأَتَوْا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ يَعْكُفُونَ عَلَىٰ أَصْنَامٍ لَّهُمْ ۚ قَالُوا يَا مُوسَى اجْعَل لَّنَا إِلَٰهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ آلِهَةٌ ۚ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ
- Wajawazna bibanee israeela albahra faataw AAala qawmin yaAAkufoona AAala asnamin lahum qaloo ya moosa ijAAal lana ilahan kama lahum alihatun qala innakum qawmun tajhaloona (Ⅰ) - And We passed the children of Israel safely across the sea. They came upon a people devoted to their idols, and said, "O Moses! Make for us a god as the gods they have." Said he, "Verily, you are ignorant people. (Ⅱ) - And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and they came unto a people who were given up to idols which they had. They said: O Moses! Make for us a god even as they have gods. He said: Lo! ye are a folk who know not. (Ⅲ) - And We brought the Children of Israel over the sea, and they came upon a people cleaving to idols they had. They said, ´Moses, make for us a god, as they have gods.´ Said he, ´You are surely a people who are ignorant. (Ⅳ) - We took the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea. They came upon a people devoted entirely to some idols they had. They said: "O Moses! fashion for us a god like unto the gods they have." He said: "Surely ye are a people without knowledge. (Ⅵ)

139
إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ مُتَبَّرٌ مَّا هُمْ فِيهِ وَبَاطِلٌ مَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
- Inna haolai mutabbarun ma hum feehi wabatilun ma kanoo yaAAmaloona (Ⅰ) - "Verily, these people- destroyed shall be their way, and vain is that which they are doing." (Ⅱ) - Lo! as for these, their way will be destroyed and all that they are doing is in vain. (Ⅲ) - Surely this they are engaged upon shall be shattered, and void is what they have been doing.´ (Ⅳ) - "As to these folk,- the cult they are in is (but) a fragment of a ruin, and vain is the (worship) which they practise." (Ⅵ)

140
قَالَ أَغَيْرَ اللَّهِ أَبْغِيكُمْ إِلَٰهًا وَهُوَ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ
- Qala aghayra Allahi abgheekum ilahan wahuwa faddalakum AAala alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - He said, "Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah, when He has preferred you above all creatures?" (Ⅱ) - He said: Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah when He hath favoured you above (all) creatures ? (Ⅲ) - He said, ´What, shall I seek a god for you other than God, who has preferred you above all beings?´ (Ⅳ) - He said: "Shall I seek for you a god other than the (true) Allah, when it is Allah Who hath endowed you with gifts above the nations?" (Ⅵ)

141
وَإِذْ أَنجَيْنَاكُم مِّنْ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوءَ الْعَذَابِ ۖ يُقَتِّلُونَ أَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَاءَكُمْ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكُم بَلَاءٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ
- Waith anjaynakum min ali firAAawna yasoomoonakum sooa alAAathabi yuqattiloona abnaakum wayastahyoona nisaakum wafee thalikum balaon min rabbikum AAatheemun (Ⅰ) - And (remember) when We saved you from Pharaoh´s people who wrought you evil woe, slaying your sons, and sparing your women. In that was a mighty trial from your Lord. (Ⅱ) - And (remember) when We did deliver you from Pharaoh's folk who were afflicting you with dreadful torment, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women. That was a tremendous trial from your Lord. (Ⅲ) - And when We delivered you from the folk of Pharaoh who were visiting you with evil chastisement, slaying your sons, and sparing your women -- and in that was a grievous trial from your Lord. (Ⅳ) - And remember We rescued you from Pharaoh´s people, who afflicted you with the worst of penalties, who slew your male children and saved alive your females: in that was a momentous trial from your Lord. (Ⅵ)

142
۞ وَوَاعَدْنَا مُوسَىٰ ثَلَاثِينَ لَيْلَةً وَأَتْمَمْنَاهَا بِعَشْرٍ فَتَمَّ مِيقَاتُ رَبِّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ۚ وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَخِيهِ هَارُونَ اخْلُفْنِي فِي قَوْمِي وَأَصْلِحْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ
- WawaAAadna moosa thalatheena laylatan waatmamnaha biAAashrin fatamma meeqatu rabbihi arbaAAeena laylatan waqala moosa liakheehi haroona okhlufnee fee qawmee waaslih wala tattabiAA sabeela almufsideena (Ⅰ) - And We appointed for Moses thirty nights (of solitude), and added ten (more), and he completed the time appointed by his Lord for forty nights. And Moses said unto his brother Aaron, "Act for me amongst my people, and do what is right, and follow not the path of the evildoers." (Ⅱ) - And when We did appoint for Moses thirty nights (of solitude), and added to them ten, and he completed the whole time appointed by his Lord of forty nights; and Moses said unto his brother, Aaron: Take my place among the people. Do right, and follow not the way of mischief-makers. (Ⅲ) - And We appointed with Moses thirty nights and We completed them with ten, so the appointed time of his Lord was forty nights; and Moses said to his brother Aaron, ´Be my successor among my people, and put things right, and do not follow the way of the workers of corruption.´ (Ⅳ) - We appointed for Moses thirty nights, and completed (the period) with ten (more): thus was completed the term (of communion) with his Lord, forty nights. And Moses had charged his brother Aaron (before he went up): "Act for me amongst my people: Do right, and follow not the way of those who do mischief." (Ⅵ)

143
وَلَمَّا جَاءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِيقَاتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُ رَبُّهُ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِي أَنظُرْ إِلَيْكَ ۚ قَالَ لَن تَرَانِي وَلَٰكِنِ انظُرْ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَإِنِ اسْتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُ فَسَوْفَ تَرَانِي ۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُ لِلْجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا ۚ فَلَمَّا أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبْحَانَكَ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
- Walamma jaa moosa limeeqatina wakallamahu rabbuhu qala rabbi arinee anthur ilayka qala lan taranee walakini onthur ila aljabali faini istaqarra makanahu fasawfa taranee falamma tajalla rabbuhu liljabali jaAAalahu dakkan wakharra moosa saAAiqan falamma afaqa qala subhanaka tubtu ilayka waana awwalu almumineena (Ⅰ) - And when Moses came to Our appointment, and his Lord spoke unto him, he said, "O my Lord! Show me Thyself, that I may look on Thee!" Allah said, "Thou canst not see Me; but look upon the mountain. If it remains steady in its place, you have seen Me;" But when his Lord appeared unto the mountain He made it dust, and Moses fell down in a swoon! And when he woke he said, "Glory unto Thee! I turn repentant unto Thee, and I am the foremost of those who believe." (Ⅱ) - And when Moses came to Our appointed tryst and his Lord had spoken unto him, he said: My Lord! Show me (Thy Self), that I may gaze upon Thee. He said: Thou wilt not see Me, but gaze upon the mountain! If it stand still in its place, then thou wilt see Me. And when his Lord revealed (His) glory to the mountain He sent it crashing down. And Moses fell down senseless. And when he woke he said: Glory unto Thee! I turn unto Thee repentant, and I am the first of (true) believers. (Ⅲ) - And when Moses came to Our appointed time and his Lord spoke with him, he said, ´Oh my Lord, show me, that I may behold Thee!´ Said He, ´Thou shalt not see Me; but behold the mountain -- if it stays fast in its place, then thou shalt see Me.´ And when his Lord revealed Him to the mountain He made it crumble to dust; and Moses fell down swooning. So when he awoke, he said, ´Glory be to Thee! I repent to Thee; I am the first of the believers.´ (Ⅳ) - When Moses came to the place appointed by Us, and his Lord addressed him, He said: "O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that I may look upon thee." Allah said: "By no means canst thou see Me (direct); But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt thou see Me." When his Lord manifested His glory on the Mount, He made it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe." (Ⅵ)

144
قَالَ يَا مُوسَىٰ إِنِّي اصْطَفَيْتُكَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بِرِسَالَاتِي وَبِكَلَامِي فَخُذْ مَا آتَيْتُكَ وَكُن مِّنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ
- Qala ya moosa innee istafaytuka AAala alnnasi birisalatee wabikalamee fakhuth ma ataytuka wakun mina alshshakireena (Ⅰ) - He said, "O Moses! Verily, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words. Take then what I have brought you, and be of the thankful." (Ⅱ) - He said: O Moses! I have preferred thee above mankind by My messages and by My speaking (unto thee). So hold that which I have given thee, and be among the thankful. (Ⅲ) - Said He, ´Moses, I have chosen thee above all men for My Messages and My Utterance; take what I have given thee, and be of the thankful.´ (Ⅳ) - (Allah) said: "O Moses! I have chosen thee above (other) men, by the mission I (have given thee) and the words I (have spoken to thee): take then the (revelation) which I give thee, and be of those who give thanks." (Ⅵ)

145
وَكَتَبْنَا لَهُ فِي الْأَلْوَاحِ مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَّوْعِظَةً وَتَفْصِيلًا لِّكُلِّ شَيْءٍ فَخُذْهَا بِقُوَّةٍ وَأْمُرْ قَوْمَكَ يَأْخُذُوا بِأَحْسَنِهَا ۚ سَأُرِيكُمْ دَارَ الْفَاسِقِينَ
- Wakatabna lahu fee alalwahi min kulli shayin mawAAithatan watafseelan likulli shayin fakhuthha biquwwatin wamur qawmaka yakhuthoo biahsaniha saoreekum dara alfasiqeena (Ⅰ) - And We wrote for him upon Tablets, admonitions, commanding and explaining everything, and said, "Hold fast to them, and bid your people take the best course, made clear therein. I will show you the abode of those who work abominations. (Ⅱ) - And We wrote for him, upon the tablets, the lesson to be drawn from all things and the explanation of all things, then (bade him): Hold it fast; and command thy people (saying): Take the better (course made clear) therein. I shall show thee the abode of evil-livers. (Ⅲ) - And We wrote for him on the Tablets of everything an admonition, and a distinguishing of everything: ´So take it forcefully, and command thy people to take the fairest of it. I shall show you the habitation of the ungodly. (Ⅳ) - And We ordained laws for him in the tablets in all matters, both commanding and explaining all things, (and said): "Take and hold these with firmness, and enjoin thy people to hold fast by the best in the precepts: soon shall I show you the homes of the wicked,- (How they lie desolate)." (Ⅵ)

146
سَأَصْرِفُ عَنْ آيَاتِيَ الَّذِينَ يَتَكَبَّرُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَإِن يَرَوْا كُلَّ آيَةٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُوا بِهَا وَإِن يَرَوْا سَبِيلَ الرُّشْدِ لَا يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِيلًا وَإِن يَرَوْا سَبِيلَ الْغَيِّ يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِيلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِلِينَ
- Saasrifu AAan ayatiya allatheena yatakabbaroona fee alardi bighayri alhaqqi wain yaraw kulla ayatin la yuminoo biha wain yaraw sabeela alrrushdi la yattakhithoohu sabeelan wain yaraw sabeela alghayyi yattakhithoohu sabeelan thalika biannahum kaththaboo biayatina wakanoo AAanha ghafileena (Ⅰ) - I will turn from My revelations those who wrongfully magnify themselves with pride in the earth; and though they see every Sign, they shall not believe therein, and if they see the path of rectitude they shall not take it for their path; but if they see the path of error they shall choose it for their path - that is because they deny Our revelations and have ignored them." (Ⅱ) - I shall turn away from My revelations those who magnify themselves wrongfully in the earth, and if they see each token believe it not, and if they see the way of righteousness choose it nor for (their) way, and if they see the way of error choose if for (their) way. That is because they deny Our revelations and are used to disregard them. (Ⅲ) - I shall turn from My signs those who wax proud in the earth unjustly; though they see every sign, they will not believe in it, and though they see the way of rectitude they will not take it for a way, and though they see the way of error, they will take it for a way. That, because they have cried lies to Our signs and heeded them not.´ (Ⅳ) - Those who behave arrogantly on the earth in defiance of right - them will I turn away from My signs: Even if they see all the signs, they will not believe in them; and if they see the way of right conduct, they will not adopt it as the way; but if they see the way of error, that is the way they will adopt. For they have rejected our signs, and failed to take warning from them. (Ⅵ)

وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَلِقَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ ۚ هَلْ يُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
- Waallatheena kaththaboo biayatina waliqai alakhirati habitat aAAmaluhum hal yujzawna illa ma kanoo yaAAmaloona (Ⅰ) - But those who deny Our revelations (or Signs) and the meeting of the Hereafter, in vain are their works. Shall they be rewarded save for that which they have done? (Ⅱ) - Those who deny Our revelations and the meeting of the Hereafter, their works are fruitless. Are they requited aught save what they used to do ? (Ⅲ) - Those who cry lies to Our signs, and the encounter in the world to come -- their works have failed; shall they be recompensed, except according to the things they have done? (Ⅳ) - Those who reject Our signs and the meeting in the Hereafter,- vain are their deeds: Can they expect to be rewarded except as they have wrought? (Ⅵ)

وَاتَّخَذَ قَوْمُ مُوسَىٰ مِن بَعْدِهِ مِنْ حُلِيِّهِمْ عِجْلًا جَسَدًا لَّهُ خُوَارٌ ۚ أَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّهُ لَا يُكَلِّمُهُمْ وَلَا يَهْدِيهِمْ سَبِيلًا ۘ اتَّخَذُوهُ وَكَانُوا ظَالِمِينَ
- Waittakhatha qawmu moosa min baAAdihi min huliyyihim AAijlan jasadan lahu khuwarun alam yaraw annahu la yukallimuhum wala yahdeehim sabeelan ittakhathoohu wakanoo thalimeena (Ⅰ) - And the people of Moses, after he had left them, chose (for worship) an image of a lowing calf (or one that seemed to low) made out of their ornaments. Did they not see that it could not speak to them or guide them in the path? They chose it and became wrongdoers (or unjust, unreasonable, irrational, superstitious people). (Ⅱ) - And the folk of Moses, after (he left them), chose a calf (for worship), (made) out of their ornaments, of saffron hue, which gave a lowing sound. Saw they not that it spake not unto them nor guided them to any way ? They chose it, and became wrong-doers. (Ⅲ) - And the people of Moses took to them, after him, of their ornaments a Calf -- a mere body that lowed. Did they not see it spoke not to them, neither guided them upon any way? Yet they took it to them, and were evildoers. (Ⅳ) - The people of Moses made, in his absence, out of their ornaments, the image of calf, (for worship): it seemed to low: did they not see that it could neither speak to them, nor show them the way? They took it for worship and they did wrong. (Ⅵ)

وَلَمَّا سُقِطَ فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ وَرَأَوْا أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ ضَلُّوا قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ يَرْحَمْنَا رَبُّنَا وَيَغْفِرْ لَنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
- Walamma suqita fee aydeehim waraaw annahum qad dalloo qaloo lain lam yarhamna rabbuna wayaghfir lana lanakoonanna mina alkhasireena (Ⅰ) - But when they bit their hands (in realization and fear) and saw that they had gone astray, they said, "Verily, if our Lord have not compassion on us and forgive us we shall surely be of those who are lost!" (Ⅱ) - And when they feared the consequences thereof and saw that they had gone astray, they said: Unless our Lord have mercy on us and forgive us, we verily are of the lost. (Ⅲ) - And when they smote their hands, and saw that they had gone astray, they said, ´If our Lord has not mercy on us, and forgives us not, surely we shall be of the lost.´ (Ⅳ) - When they repented, and saw that they had erred, they said: "If our Lord have not mercy upon us and forgive us, we shall indeed be of those who perish." (Ⅵ)
