68. 0  
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
68. 1  
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ن ۚ وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ
- Noon waalqalami wama yasturoona (Ⅰ)
- NUN. I swear by the Pen and by that which they write, (Ⅱ)
- Nun. By the pen and that which they write (therewith), (Ⅲ)
- Nun. By the Pen, and what they inscribe, (Ⅳ)
- Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,- (Ⅵ)
68. 2  
مَا أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ
- Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoonin (Ⅰ)
- By the grace of your Lord you (Muhammad) are not mad (or stupid, deluded or possessed). (Ⅱ)
- Thou art not, for thy Lord's favour unto thee, a madman. (Ⅲ)
- thou art not, by the blessing of thy Lord, a man possessed. (Ⅳ)
- Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed. (Ⅵ)
68. 3  
وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ
- Wainna laka laajran ghayra mamnoonin (Ⅰ)
- And most surely you shall have a reward unfailing. (Ⅱ)
- And lo! thine verily will be a reward unfailing. (Ⅲ)
- Surely thou shalt have a wage unfailing; (Ⅳ)
- Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing: (Ⅵ)
68. 4  
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
- Wainnaka laAAala khuluqin AAatheemin (Ⅰ)
- And most surely you have the most sublime (or exalted) character. (Ⅱ)
- And lo! thou art of a tremendous nature. (Ⅲ)
- surely thou art upon a mighty morality. (Ⅳ)
- And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character. (Ⅵ)
68. 5  
فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ
- Fasatubsiru wayubsiroona (Ⅰ)
- Soon will you see, and they too shall see, (Ⅱ)
- And thou wilt see and they will see (Ⅲ)
- So thou shalt see, and they will see, (Ⅳ)
- Soon wilt thou see, and they will see, (Ⅵ)
68. 6  
بِأَييِّكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ
- Biayyikumu almaftoonu (Ⅰ)
- Which of you is afflicted with madness (stupidity or delusion). (Ⅱ)
- Which of you is the demented. (Ⅲ)
- which of you is the demented. (Ⅳ)
- Which of you is afflicted with madness. (Ⅵ)
68. 7  
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ
- Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bialmuhtadeena (Ⅰ)
- Surely your Lord best knows him who errs from His way, and He best knows the followers of the right guidance. (Ⅱ)
- Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is Best Aware of those who walk aright. (Ⅲ)
- Surely thy Lord knows very well those who have gone astray from His way, and He knows very well those who are guided. (Ⅳ)
- Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance. (Ⅵ)
68. 8  
فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ
- Fala tutiAAi almukaththibeena (Ⅰ)
- So do not yield to the rejecters. (Ⅱ)
- Therefor obey not thou the rejecters (Ⅲ)
- So obey thou not those who cry lies. (Ⅳ)
- So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth). (Ⅵ)
68. 9  
وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
- Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoona (Ⅰ)
- They desire that you should be pliant (or compromise) so they too would be pliant (compromise). (Ⅱ)
- Who would have had thee compromise, that they may compromise. (Ⅲ)
- They wish that thou shouldst compromise, then they would compromise. (Ⅳ)
- Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant. (Ⅵ)
68. 10  
وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ
- Wala tutiAA kulla hallafin maheenin (Ⅰ)
- And yield not to any mean swearer (Ⅱ)
- Neither obey thou each feeble oath-monger, (Ⅲ)
- And obey thou not every mean swearer, (Ⅳ)
- Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths, (Ⅵ)
68. 11  
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ
- Hammazin mashshain binameemin (Ⅰ)
- Defamer, going about with slander (Ⅱ)
- Detracter, spreader abroad of slanders, (Ⅲ)
- backbiter, going about with slander, (Ⅳ)
- A slanderer, going about with calumnies, (Ⅵ)
68. 12  
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
- MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheemin (Ⅰ)
- Hinderer (obstructer) of good, transgressor beyond limits, malefactor, (Ⅱ)
- Hinderer of the good, transgressor, malefactor (Ⅲ)
- hinderer of good, guilty aggressor, coarse-grained, (Ⅳ)
- (Habitually) hindering (all) good, transgressing beyond bounds, deep in sin, (Ⅵ)
68. 13  
عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
- AAutullin baAAda thalika zaneemin (Ⅰ)
- Ignoble (violent, cruel and greedy), besides all that, base-born (inherently degenerate); (Ⅱ)
- Greedy therewithal, intrusive. (Ⅲ)
- moreover ignoble, (Ⅳ)
- Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,- (Ⅵ)
68. 14  
أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
- An kana tha malin wabaneena (Ⅰ)
- Because he possesses wealth and sons. (Ⅱ)
- It is because he is possessed of wealth and children (Ⅲ)
- because he has wealth and sons. (Ⅳ)
- Because he possesses wealth and (numerous) sons. (Ⅵ)
68. 15  
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
- Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna qala asateeru alawwaleena (Ⅰ)
- When Our communications are recited to him, he says, "Stories of those of old". (Ⅱ)
- That, when Our revelations are recited unto him, he saith: Mere fables of the men of old. (Ⅲ)
- When Our signs are recited to him, he says, ´Fairy-tales of the ancients!´ (Ⅳ)
- When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries! (Ⅵ)
68. 16  
سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ
- Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoomi (Ⅰ)
- We will brand him on the snout. (Ⅱ)
- We shall brand him on the nose. (Ⅲ)
- We shall brand him upon the muzzle! (Ⅳ)
- Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout! (Ⅵ)
68. 17  
إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ
- Inna balawnahum kama balawna ashaba aljannati ith aqsamoo layasrimunnaha musbiheena (Ⅰ)
- Surely We will try them as We tried the people of the garden, when they resolved to cut the produce in the morning, (Ⅱ)
- Lo! We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed that they would pluck its fruit next morning, (Ⅲ)
- Now We have tried them, even as We tried the owners of the garden when they swore they would pluck in the morning (Ⅳ)
- Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning. (Ⅵ)
68. 18  
وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ
- Wala yastathnoona (Ⅰ)
- And were not willing to set aside a portion (for the poor). (Ⅱ)
- And made no exception (for the Will of Allah); (Ⅲ)
- and they added not the saving words. (Ⅳ)
- But made no reservation, ("If it be Allah´s Will"). (Ⅵ)
68. 19  
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ
- Fatafa AAalayha taifun min rabbika wahum naimoona (Ⅰ)
- Then there encompassed it (the garden) a visitation from your Lord while they were sleeping. (Ⅱ)
- Then a visitation from thy Lord came upon it while they slept (Ⅲ)
- Then a visitation from thy Lord visited it, while they were sleeping, (Ⅳ)
- Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep. (Ⅵ)
68. 20  
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ
- Faasbahat kaalssareemi (Ⅰ)
- So it became as black, barren land. (Ⅱ)
- And in the morning it was as if plucked. (Ⅲ)
- and in the morning it was as if it were a garden plucked. (Ⅳ)
- So the (garden) became, by the morning, like a dark and desolate spot, (whose fruit had been gathered). (Ⅵ)
68. 21  
فَتَنَادَوْا مُصْبِحِينَ
- Fatanadaw musbiheena (Ⅰ)
- And they called out to each other in the morning (unaware of what had happened), (Ⅱ)
- And they cried out one unto another in the morning, (Ⅲ)
- In the morning they called to one another, (Ⅳ)
- As the morning broke, they called out, one to another,- (Ⅵ)
68. 22  
أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَارِمِينَ
- Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum in kuntum sarimeena (Ⅰ)
- Saying, "Go early to your tilth if you would cut the produce." (Ⅱ)
- Saying: Run unto your field if ye would pluck (the fruit). (Ⅲ)
- ´Come forth betimes upon your tillage, if you would pluck!´ (Ⅳ)
- "Go ye to your tilth (betimes) in the morning, if ye would gather the fruits." (Ⅵ)
68. 23  
فَانطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ
- Faintalaqoo wahum yatakhafatoona (Ⅰ)
- So they went, while they murmured to each other secretly, (Ⅱ)
- So they went off, saying one unto another in low tones: (Ⅲ)
- So they departed, whispering together, (Ⅳ)
- So they departed, conversing in secret low tones, (saying)- (Ⅵ)
68. 24  
أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ
- An la yadkhulannaha alyawma AAalaykum miskeenun (Ⅰ)
- Saying, "Let no poor man enter it today besides you." (Ⅱ)
- No needy man shall enter it to-day against you. (Ⅲ)
- ´No needy man shall enter it today against your will.´ (Ⅳ)
- "Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day." (Ⅵ)
68. 25  
وَغَدَوْا عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ
- Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireena (Ⅰ)
- And in the morning they went, strong in this (evil) resolve. (Ⅱ)
- They went betimes, strong in (this) purpose. (Ⅲ)
- And they went forth early, determined upon their purpose. (Ⅳ)
- And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve. (Ⅵ)
68. 26  
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ
- Falamma raawha qaloo inna ladalloona (Ⅰ)
- But when they saw it (the garden), they said, "Most surely we have gone astray. (Ⅱ)
- But when they saw it, they said: Lo! we are in error! (Ⅲ)
- But when they saw it, they said, ´Surely we are gone astray; (Ⅳ)
- But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way: (Ⅵ)
68. 27  
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
- Bal nahnu mahroomoona (Ⅰ)
- "Nay! We are made to suffer privation." (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but we are desolate! (Ⅲ)
- nay, rather we have been robbed!´ (Ⅳ)
- "Indeed we are shut out (of the fruits of our labour)!" (Ⅵ)
68. 28  
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ
- Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakum lawla tusabbihoona (Ⅰ)
- The best of them said, "Did I not say to you, ´Why not glorify (Allah)?´" (Ⅱ)
- The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah) ? (Ⅲ)
- Said the most moderate of them, ´Did I not say to you, "Why do you not give glory?"´ (Ⅳ)
- Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, ´Why not glorify (Allah)?´" (Ⅵ)
68. 29  
قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ
- Qaloo subhana rabbina inna kunna thalimeena (Ⅰ)
- They said, "Glory be to our Lord, surely we were unjust." (Ⅱ)
- They said: Glorified be our Lord! Lo! we have been wrong-doers. (Ⅲ)
- They said, ´Glory be to God, our Lord; truly, we were evildoers.´ (Ⅳ)
- They said: "Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!" (Ⅵ)
68. 30  
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَاوَمُونَ
- Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatalawamoona (Ⅰ)
- Then some of them advanced against others, blaming each other. (Ⅱ)
- Then some of them drew near unto others, self-reproaching. (Ⅲ)
- And they advanced one upon another, blaming each other. (Ⅳ)
- Then they turned, one against another, in reproach. (Ⅵ)
68. 31  
قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا طَاغِينَ
- Qaloo ya waylana inna kunna tagheena (Ⅰ)
- Said they, "O woe to us! Surely we were outrageous transgressors: (Ⅱ)
- They said: Alas for us! In truth we were outrageous. (Ⅲ)
- They said, ´Woe, alas for us! Truly, we were insolent. (Ⅳ)
- They said: "Alas for us! We have indeed transgressed! (Ⅵ)
68. 32  
عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَا أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَا إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُونَ
- AAasa rabbuna an yubdilana khayran minha inna ila rabbina raghiboona (Ⅰ)
- "Maybe, our Lord will give us instead a garden better than this; lo! We beseech (or turn in repentance to) our Lord." (Ⅱ)
- It may be that our Lord will give us better than this in place thereof. Lo! we beseech our Lord. (Ⅲ)
- It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better than it; to our Lord we humbly turn.´ (Ⅳ)
- "It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!" (Ⅵ)
68. 33  
كَذَٰلِكَ الْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ
- Kathalika alAAathabu walaAAathabu alakhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoona (Ⅰ)
- Such is the chastisement, and certainly the chastisement of the Hereafter is even greater, did they but know! (Ⅱ)
- Such was the punishment. And verily the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they did but know. (Ⅲ)
- Such is the chastisement; and the chastisement of the world to come, is assuredly greater, did they but know. (Ⅳ)
- Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew! (Ⅵ)
68. 34  
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ
- Inna lilmuttaqeena AAinda rabbihim jannati alnnaAAeemi (Ⅰ)
- Surely those who guard against evil shall have with their Lord Gardens of Delight. (Ⅱ)
- Lo! for those who keep from evil are gardens of bliss with their Lord. (Ⅲ)
- Surely for the godfearing shall be Gardens of Bliss with their Lord. (Ⅳ)
- Verily, for the Righteous, are Gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord. (Ⅵ)
68. 35  
أَفَنَجْعَلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَالْمُجْرِمِينَ
- AfanajAAalu almuslimeena kaalmujrimeena (Ⅰ)
- What! Shall We then treat those who have Surrendered (in Islam) as those who are guilty? (Ⅱ)
- Shall We then treat those who have surrendered as We treat the guilty ? (Ⅲ)
- What, shall we make those who have surrendered like to the sinners? (Ⅳ)
- Shall We then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin? (Ⅵ)
68. 36  
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
- Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoona (Ⅰ)
- What ails you? How do you judge? (Ⅱ)
- What aileth you ? How foolishly ye judge! (Ⅲ)
- What ails you then, how you judge? (Ⅳ)
- What is the matter with you? How judge ye? (Ⅵ)
68. 37  
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَابٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ
- Am lakum kitabun feehi tadrusoona (Ⅰ)
- Or have you a Book wherein you learn, (Ⅱ)
- Or have ye a scripture wherein ye learn (Ⅲ)
- Or have you a Book wherein you study? (Ⅳ)
- Or have ye a book through which ye learn- (Ⅵ)
68. 38  
إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ
- Inna lakum feehi lama takhayyaroona (Ⅰ)
- That you shall have through it whatever you choose? (Ⅱ)
- That ye shall indeed have all that ye choose ? (Ⅲ)
- Surely therein you shall have whatever you choose! (Ⅳ)
- That ye shall have, through it whatever ye choose? (Ⅵ)
68. 39  
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَانٌ عَلَيْنَا بَالِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
- Am lakum aymanun AAalayna balighatun ila yawmi alqiyamati inna lakum lama tahkumoona (Ⅰ)
- Or have you received from Us an agreement, confirmed by an oath, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that you shall have what you demand? (Ⅱ)
- Or have ye a covenant on oath from Us that reacheth to the Day of Judgment, that yours shall be all that ye ordain ? (Ⅲ)
- Or have you oaths from Us, reaching to the Day of Resurrection? Surely you shall have whatever you judge! (Ⅳ)
- Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, (providing) that ye shall have whatever ye shall demand? (Ⅵ)
68. 40  
سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
- Salhum ayyuhum bithalika zaAAeemun (Ⅰ)
- Ask them which of them will vouch for that, (Ⅱ)
- Ask them (O Muhammad) which of them will vouch for that! (Ⅲ)
- Ask them, which of them will guarantee that! (Ⅳ)
- Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that! (Ⅵ)
68. 41  
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَكَائِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ
- Am lahum shurakao falyatoo bishurakaihim in kanoo sadiqeena (Ⅰ)
- Or have they associates (in the Godhead); then let them produce them if they are truthful. (Ⅱ)
- Or have they other gods ? Then let them bring their other gods if they are truthful (Ⅲ)
- Or do they have associates? Then let them bring their associates, if they speak truly. (Ⅳ)
- Or have they some "Partners" (in Allahhead)? Then let them produce their "partners", if they are truthful! (Ⅵ)
68. 42  
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
- Yawma yukshafu AAan saqin wayudAAawna ila alssujoodi fala yastateeAAoona (Ⅰ)
- On the day when the Shin (the Hidden Mystery or Truth) shall be laid bare, and they shall be called upon to make obeisance, but they shall not be able, (Ⅱ)
- On the day when it befalleth in earnest, and they are ordered to prostrate themselves but are not able, (Ⅲ)
- Upon the day when the leg shall be bared, and they shall be summoned to bow themselves, but they cannot; (Ⅳ)
- The Day that the shin shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration, but they shall not be able,- (Ⅵ)
68. 43  
خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَالِمُونَ
- KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun waqad kanoo yudAAawna ila alssujoodi wahum salimoona (Ⅰ)
- Their looks cast down, abasement shall overtake them seeing that they had been called upon to make obeisance indeed while yet they were safe. (Ⅱ)
- With eyes downcast, abasement stupefying them. And they had been summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet unhurt. (Ⅲ)
- humbled shall be their eyes, and abasement shall overspread them, for they had been summoned to bow themselves while they were whole. (Ⅳ)
- Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to bow in adoration, while they were whole, (and had refused). (Ⅵ)
68. 44  
فَذَرْنِي وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
- Fatharnee waman yukaththibu bihatha alhadeethi sanastadrijuhum min haythu la yaAAlamoona (Ⅰ)
- So leave Me and him who rejects this Announcement (The Message of Muhammad); We will overtake them by degrees, from whence they perceive not: (Ⅱ)
- Leave Me (to deal) with those who give the lie to this pronouncement. We shall lead them on by steps from whence they know not. (Ⅲ)
- So leave Me with him who cries lies to this discourse! We will draw them on little by little whence they know not; (Ⅳ)
- Then leave Me alone with such as reject this Message: by degrees shall We punish them from directions they perceive not. (Ⅵ)
68. 45  
وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ
- Waomlee lahum inna kaydee mateenun (Ⅰ)
- Yet I do bear with them, for lo! My plan is firm. (Ⅱ)
- Yet I bear with them, for lo! My scheme is firm. (Ⅲ)
- and I shall respite them -- assuredly My guile is sure. (Ⅳ)
- A (long) respite will I grant them: truly powerful is My Plan. (Ⅵ)
68. 46  
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
- Am tasaluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muthqaloona (Ⅰ)
- Or do you ask from them a reward, so that they are burdened with debt? (Ⅱ)
- Or dost thou (Muhammad) ask a fee from them so that they are heavily taxed ? (Ⅲ)
- Or askest thou them for a wage, and so they are weighed down with debt? (Ⅳ)
- Or is it that thou dost ask them for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?- (Ⅵ)
68. 47  
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
- Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboona (Ⅰ)
- Or have they the knowledge of the unseen, so that they write it down? (Ⅱ)
- Or is the Unseen theirs that they can write (thereof) ? (Ⅲ)
- Or is the Unseen in their keeping, and so they are writing it down? (Ⅳ)
- Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it down? (Ⅵ)
68. 48  
فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ الْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ
- Faisbir lihukmi rabbika wala takun kasahibi alhooti ith nada wahuwa makthoomun (Ⅰ)
- So wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish (Jonah), when he cried while he was in distress. (Ⅱ)
- But wait thou for thy Lord's decree, and be not like him of the fish, who cried out in despair. (Ⅲ)
- So be thou patient under the judgment of thy Lord, and be not as the Man of the Fish, when he called, choking inwardly. (Ⅳ)
- So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish,- when he cried out in agony. (Ⅵ)
68. 49  
لَّوْلَا أَن تَدَارَكَهُ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
- Lawla an tadarakahu niAAmatun min rabbihi lanubitha bialAAarai wahuwa mathmoomun (Ⅰ)
- Were it not that favour from his Lord had reached him, he would certainly have been cast down upon the naked shore while he was blameworthy. (Ⅱ)
- Had it not been that favour from his Lord had reached him he surely had been cast into the wilderness while he was reprobate. (Ⅲ)
- Had there not overtaken him a blessing from his Lord he would have been cast upon the wilderness, being condemned. (Ⅳ)
- Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace. (Ⅵ)
