In diebus unius judicis, quando judices præerant, facta est fames in terra. Abiitque homo de Bethlehem Juda, ut peregrinaretur in regione Moabitide cum uxore sua ac duobus liberis.

- Du temps des juges, il y eut une famine dans le pays. Un homme de Bethléhem de Juda partit, avec sa femme et ses deux fils, pour faire un séjour dans le pays de Moab. (Ⅱ)

- Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τω̨̃ κρίνειν τοὺς κριτὰς καὶ ἐγένετο λιμὸς ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ Βαιθλεεμ τη̃ς Ιουδα του̃ παροικη̃σαι ἐν ἀγρω̨̃ Μωαβ αὐτὸς καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτου̃ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 1 ׃1 ויהי בימי שפט השפטים ויהי רעב בארץ וילך איש מבית לחם יהודה לגור בשדי מואב הוא ואשתו ושני בניו ‬ (Ⅴ)

Ipse vocabatur Elimelech, et uxor ejus Noëmi : et duo filii, alter Mahalon, et alter Chelion, Ephrathæi de Bethlehem Juda. Ingressique regionem Moabitidem, morabantur ibi.

- Le nom de cet homme était Élimélec, celui de sa femme Naomi, et ses deux fils s'appelaient Machlon et Kiljon; ils étaient Éphratiens, de Bethléhem de Juda. Arrivés au pays de Moab, ils y fixèrent leur demeure. (Ⅱ)

- And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ὄνομα τω̨̃ ἀνδρὶ Αβιμελεχ καὶ ὄνομα τη̨̃ γυναικὶ αὐτου̃ Νωεμιν καὶ ὄνομα τοι̃ς δυσὶν υἱοι̃ς αὐτου̃ Μααλων καὶ Χελαιων Εφραθαι̃οι ἐκ Βαιθλεεμ τη̃ς Ιουδα καὶ ἤλθοσαν εἰς ἀγρὸν Μωαβ καὶ ἠ̃σαν ἐκει̃ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 2 ׃1 ושם האיש אלימלך ושם אשתו נעמי ושם שני בניו מחלון וכליון אפרתים מבית לחם יהודה ויבאו שדי מואב ויהיו שם ‬ (Ⅴ)

Et mortuus est Elimelech maritus Noëmi : remansitque ipsa cum filiis.

- Élimélec, mari de Naomi, mourut, et elle resta avec ses deux fils. (Ⅱ)

- And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἀπέθανεν Αβιμελεχ ὁ ἀνὴρ τη̃ς Νωεμιν καὶ κατελείφθη αὐτὴ καὶ οἱ δύο υἱοὶ αὐτη̃ς (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 3 ׃1 וימת אלימלך איש נעמי ותשאר היא ושני בניה ‬ (Ⅴ)

Qui acceperunt uxores Moabitidas, quarum una vocabatur Orpha, altera vero Ruth. Manseruntque ibi decem annis,

- Ils prirent des femmes Moabites, dont l'une se nommait Orpa, et l'autre Ruth, et ils habitèrent là environ dix ans. (Ⅱ)

- And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἐλάβοσαν ἑαυτοι̃ς γυναι̃κας Μωαβίτιδας ὄνομα τη̨̃ μια̨̃ Ορφα καὶ ὄνομα τη̨̃ δευτέρα̨ Ρουθ καὶ κατώ̨κησαν ἐκει̃ ὡς δέκα ἔτη (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 4 ׃1 וישאו להם נשים מאביות שם האחת ערפה ושם השנית רות וישבו שם כעשר שנים ‬ (Ⅴ)

et ambo mortui sunt, Mahalon videlicet et Chelion : remansitque mulier orbata duobus liberis ac marito.

- Machlon et Kiljon moururent aussi tous les deux, et Naomi resta privée de ses deux fils et de son mari. (Ⅱ)

- And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἀπέθανον καί γε ἀμφότεροι Μααλων καὶ Χελαιων καὶ κατελείφθη ἡ γυνὴ ἀπὸ του̃ ἀνδρὸς αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἀπὸ τω̃ν δύο υἱω̃ν αὐτη̃ς (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 5 ׃1 וימותו גם שניהם מחלון וכליון ותשאר האשה משני ילדיה ומאישה ‬ (Ⅴ)

Et surrexit ut in patriam pergeret cum utraque nuru sua de regione Moabitide : audierat enim quod respexisset Dominus populum suum, et dedisset eis escas.\

- Puis elle se leva, elle et ses belles-filles, afin de quitter le pays de Moab, car elle apprit au pays de Moab que l'Éternel avait visité son peuple et lui avait donné du pain. (Ⅱ)

- Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἀνέστη αὐτὴ καὶ αἱ δύο νύμφαι αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν ἐξ ἀγρου̃ Μωαβ ὅτι ἤκουσαν ἐν ἀγρω̨̃ Μωαβ ὅτι ἐπέσκεπται κύριος τὸν λαὸν αὐτου̃ δου̃ναι αὐτοι̃ς ἄρτους (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 6 ׃1 ותקם היא וכלתיה ותשב משדי מואב כי שמעה בשדה מואב כי פקד יהוה את עמו לתת להם לחם ‬ (Ⅴ)

Egressa est itaque de loco peregrinationis suæ, cum utraque nuru : et jam in via revertendi posita in terram Juda,

- Elle sortit du lieu qu'elle habitait, accompagnée de ses deux belles-filles, et elle se mit en route pour retourner dans le pays de Juda. (Ⅱ)

- Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν ἐκ του̃ τόπου οὑ̃ ἠ̃ν ἐκει̃ καὶ αἱ δύο νύμφαι αὐτη̃ς μετ' αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἐπορεύοντο ἐν τη̨̃ ὁδω̨̃ του̃ ἐπιστρέψαι εἰς τὴν γη̃ν Ιουδα (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 7 ׃1 ותצא מן המקום אשר היתה שמה ושתי כלתיה עמה ותלכנה בדרך לשוב אל ארץ יהודה ‬ (Ⅴ)

dixit ad eas : Ite in domum matris vestræ : faciat vobiscum Dominus misericordiam, sicut fecistis cum mortuis, et mecum.

- Naomi dit alors à ses deux belles-filles: Allez, retournez chacune à la maison de sa mère! Que l'Éternel use de bonté envers vous, comme vous l'avez fait envers ceux qui sont morts et envers moi! (Ⅱ)

- And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Νωεμιν ται̃ς νύμφαις αὐτη̃ς πορεύεσθε δὴ ἀποστράφητε ἑκάστη εἰς οἰ̃κον μητρὸς αὐτη̃ς ποιήσαι κύριος μεθ' ὑμω̃ν ἔλεος καθὼς ἐποιήσατε μετὰ τω̃ν τεθνηκότων καὶ μετ' ἐμου̃ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 8 ׃1 ותאמר נעמי לשתי כלתיה לכנה שבנה אשה לבית אמה *יעשה **יעש יהוה עמכם חסד כאשר עשיתם עם המתים ועמדי ‬ (Ⅴ)

Det vobis invenire requiem in domibus virorum quos sortituræ estis. Et osculata est eas. Quæ elevata voce flere cœperunt,

- Que l'Éternel vous fasse trouver à chacune du repos dans la maison d'un mari! Et elle les baisa. Elles élevèrent la voix, et pleurèrent; (Ⅱ)

- The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept. (Ⅲ)

- δώ̨η κύριος ὑμι̃ν καὶ εὕροιτε ἀνάπαυσιν ἑκάστη ἐν οἴκω̨ ἀνδρὸς αὐτη̃ς καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτάς καὶ ἐπη̃ραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἔκλαυσαν (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 9 ׃1 יתן יהוה לכם ומצאן מנוחה אשה בית אישה ותשק להן ותשאנה קולן ותבכינה ‬ (Ⅴ)

et dicere : Tecum pergemus ad populum tuum.

- et elles lui dirent: Non, nous irons avec toi vers ton peuple. (Ⅱ)

- And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ εἰ̃παν αὐτη̨̃ μετὰ σου̃ ἐπιστρέφομεν εἰς τὸν λαόν σου (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 10 ׃1 ותאמרנה לה כי אתך נשוב לעמך ‬ (Ⅴ)

Quibus illa respondit : Revertimini, filiæ meæ, cur venitis mecum ? num ultra habeo filios in utero meo, ut viros ex me sperare possitis ?

- Naomi, dit: Retournez, mes filles! Pourquoi viendriez-vous avec moi? Ai-je encore dans mon sein des fils qui puissent devenir vos maris? (Ⅱ)

- And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? (Ⅲ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Νωεμιν ἐπιστράφητε δή θυγατέρες μου καὶ ἵνα τί πορεύεσθε μετ' ἐμου̃ μὴ ἔτι μοι υἱοὶ ἐν τη̨̃ κοιλία̨ μου καὶ ἔσονται ὑμι̃ν εἰς ἄνδρας (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 11 ׃1 ותאמר נעמי שבנה בנתי למה תלכנה עמי העוד לי בנים במעי והיו לכם לאנשים ‬ (Ⅴ)

Revertimini, filiæ meæ, et abite : jam enim senectute confecta sum, nec apta vinculo conjugali : etiamsi possem hac nocte concipere, et parere filios,

- Retournez, mes filles, allez! Je suis trop vieille pour me remarier. Et quand je dirais: J'ai de l'espérance; quand cette nuit même je serais avec un mari, et que j'enfanterais des fils, (Ⅱ)

- Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons; (Ⅲ)

- ἐπιστράφητε δή θυγατέρες μου διότι γεγήρακα του̃ μὴ εἰ̃ναι ἀνδρί ὅτι εἰ̃πα ὅτι ἔστιν μοι ὑπόστασις του̃ γενηθη̃ναί με ἀνδρὶ καὶ τέξομαι υἱούς (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 12 ׃1 שבנה בנתי לכן כי זקנתי מהיות לאיש כי אמרתי יש לי תקוה גם הייתי הלילה לאיש וגם ילדתי בנים ‬ (Ⅴ)

si eos expectare velitis donec crescant, et annos pubertatis impleant, ante eritis vetulæ quam nubatis. Nolite, quæso, filiæ meæ : quia vestra angustia magis me premit, et egressa est manus Domini contra me.

- attendriez-vous pour cela qu'ils eussent grandi, refuseriez-vous pour cela de vous marier? Non, mes filles! car à cause de vous je suis dans une grande affliction de ce que la main de l'Éternel s'est étendue contre moi. (Ⅱ)

- Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me. (Ⅲ)

- μὴ αὐτοὺς προσδέξεσθε ἕως οὑ̃ ἁδρυνθω̃σιν ἢ αὐτοι̃ς κατασχεθήσεσθε του̃ μὴ γενέσθαι ἀνδρί μὴ δή θυγατέρες μου ὅτι ἐπικράνθη μοι ὑπὲρ ὑμα̃ς ὅτι ἐξη̃λθεν ἐν ἐμοὶ χεὶρ κυρίου (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 13 ׃1 הלהן תשברנה עד אשר יגדלו הלהן תעגנה לבלתי היות לאיש אל בנתי כי מר לי מאד מכם כי יצאה בי יד יהוה ‬ (Ⅴ)

Elevata igitur voce, rursum flere cœperunt : Orpha osculata est socrum, ac reversa est ; Ruth adhæsit socrui suæ :

- Et elles élevèrent la voix, et pleurèrent encore. Orpa baisa sa belle-mère, mais Ruth s'attacha à elle. (Ⅱ)

- And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἐπη̃ραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἔκλαυσαν ἔτι καὶ κατεφίλησεν Ορφα τὴν πενθερὰν αὐτη̃ς καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν εἰς τὸν λαὸν αὐτη̃ς Ρουθ δὲ ἠκολούθησεν αὐτη̨̃ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 14 ׃1 ותשנה קולן ותבכינה עוד ותשק ערפה לחמותה ורות דבקה בה ‬ (Ⅴ)

cui dixit Noëmi : En reversa est cognata tua ad populum suum, et ad deos suos, vade cum ea.

- Naomi dit à Ruth: Voici, ta belle-soeur est retournée vers son peuple et vers ses dieux; retourne, comme ta belle-soeur. (Ⅱ)

- And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν Νωεμιν πρὸς Ρουθ ἰδοὺ ἀνέστρεψεν ἡ σύννυμφός σου πρὸς λαὸν αὐτη̃ς καὶ πρὸς τοὺς θεοὺς αὐτη̃ς ἐπιστράφητι δὴ καὶ σὺ ὀπίσω τη̃ς συννύμφου σου (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 15 ׃1 ותאמר הנה שבה יבמתך אל עמה ואל אלהיה שובי אחרי יבמתך ‬ (Ⅴ)

Quæ respondit : Ne adverseris mihi ut relinquam te et abeam : quocumque enim perrexeris, pergam, et ubi morata fueris, et ego pariter morabor. Populus tuus populus meus, et Deus tuus Deus meus.

- Ruth répondit: Ne me presse pas de te laisser, de retourner loin de toi! Où tu iras j'irai, où tu demeureras je demeurerai; ton peuple sera mon peuple, et ton Dieu sera mon Dieu; (Ⅱ)

- And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: (Ⅲ)

- εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ρουθ μὴ ἀπαντήσαι ἐμοὶ του̃ καταλιπει̃ν σε ἢ ἀποστρέψαι ὄπισθέν σου ὅτι σὺ ὅπου ἐὰν πορευθη̨̃ς πορεύσομαι καὶ οὑ̃ ἐὰν αὐλισθη̨̃ς αὐλισθήσομαι ὁ λαός σου λαός μου καὶ ὁ θεός σου θεός μου (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 16 ׃1 ותאמר רות אל תפגעי בי לעזבך לשוב מאחריך כי אל אשר תלכי אלך ובאשר תליני אלין עמך עמי ואלהיך אלהי ‬ (Ⅴ)

Quæ te terra morientem susceperit, in ea moriar : ibique locum accipiam sepulturæ. Hæc mihi faciat Dominus, et hæc addat, si non sola mors me et te separaverit.\

- où tu mourras je mourrai, et j'y serai enterrée. Que l'Éternel me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si autre chose que la mort vient à me séparer de toi! (Ⅱ)

- Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ οὑ̃ ἐὰν ἀποθάνη̨ς ἀποθανου̃μαι κἀκει̃ ταφήσομαι τάδε ποιήσαι μοι κύριος καὶ τάδε προσθείη ὅτι θάνατος διαστελει̃ ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμου̃ καὶ σου̃ (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 17 ׃1 באשר תמותי אמות ושם אקבר כה יעשה יהוה לי וכה יסיף כי המות יפריד ביני ובינך ‬ (Ⅴ)

Videns ergo Noëmi quod obstinato animo Ruth decrevisset secum pergere, adversari noluit, nec ad suos ultra reditum persuadere :

- Naomi, la voyant décidée à aller avec elle, cessa ses instances. (Ⅱ)

- When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her. (Ⅲ)

- ἰδου̃σα δὲ Νωεμιν ὅτι κραταιου̃ται αὐτὴ του̃ πορεύεσθαι μετ' αὐτη̃ς ἐκόπασεν του̃ λαλη̃σαι πρὸς αὐτὴν ἔτι (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 18 ׃1 ותרא כי מתאמצת היא ללכת אתה ותחדל לדבר אליה ‬ (Ⅴ)

profectæque sunt simul, et venerunt in Bethlehem. Quibus urbem ingressis, velox apud cunctos fama percrebruit : dicebantque mulieres : Hæc est illa Noëmi.

- Elles firent ensemble le voyage jusqu'à leur arrivée à Bethléhem. Et lorsqu'elles entrèrent dans Bethléhem, toute la ville fut émue à cause d'elles, et les femmes disaient: Est-ce là Naomi? (Ⅱ)

- So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? (Ⅲ)

- ἐπορεύθησαν δὲ ἀμφότεραι ἕως του̃ παραγενέσθαι αὐτὰς εἰς Βαιθλεεμ καὶ ἤχησεν πα̃σα ἡ πόλις ἐπ' αὐται̃ς καὶ εἰ̃πον αὕτη ἐστὶν Νωεμιν (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 19 ׃1 ותלכנה שתיהם עד באנה בית לחם ויהי כבאנה בית לחם ותהם כל העיר עליהן ותאמרנה הזאת נעמי ‬ (Ⅴ)

Quibus ait : Ne vocetis me Noëmi (id est, pulchram), sed vocate me Mara (id est, amaram), quia amaritudine valde replevit me Omnipotens.

- Elle leur dit: Ne m'appelez pas Naomi; appelez-moi Mara, car le Tout Puissant m'a remplie d'amertume. (Ⅱ)

- And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ εἰ̃πεν πρὸς αὐτάς μὴ δὴ καλει̃τέ με Νωεμιν καλέσατέ με Πικράν ὅτι ἐπικράνθη ἐν ἐμοὶ ὁ ἱκανὸς σφόδρα (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 20 ׃1 ותאמר אליהן אל תקראנה לי נעמי קראן לי מרא כי המר שדי לי מאד ‬ (Ⅴ)

Egressa sum plena, et vacuam reduxit me Dominus. Cur ergo vocatis me Noëmi, quam Dominus humiliavit, et afflixit Omnipotens ?

- J'étais dans l'abondance à mon départ, et l'Éternel me ramène les mains vides. Pourquoi m'appelleriez-vous Naomi, après que l'Éternel s'est prononcé contre moi, et que le Tout Puissant m'a affligée? (Ⅱ)

- I went out full and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? (Ⅲ)

- ἐγὼ πλήρης ἐπορεύθην καὶ κενὴν ἀπέστρεψέν με ὁ κύριος καὶ ἵνα τί καλει̃τέ με Νωεμιν καὶ κύριος ἐταπείνωσέν με καὶ ὁ ἱκανὸς ἐκάκωσέν με (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 21 ׃1 אני מלאה הלכתי וריקם השיבני יהוה למה תקראנה לי נעמי ויהוה ענה בי ושדי הרע‪[C]‬‪[c]‬ לי ‬ (Ⅴ)

Venit ergo Noëmi cum Ruth Moabitide nuru sua, de terra peregrinationis suæ : ac reversa est in Bethlehem, quando primum hordea metebantur.

- Ainsi revinrent du pays de Moab Naomi et sa belle-fille, Ruth la Moabite. Elles arrivèrent à Bethléhem au commencement de la moisson des orges. (Ⅱ)

- So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest. (Ⅲ)

- καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν Νωεμιν καὶ Ρουθ ἡ Μωαβι̃τις ἡ νύμφη αὐτη̃ς ἐπιστρέφουσα ἐξ ἀγρου̃ Μωαβ αὐταὶ δὲ παρεγενήθησαν εἰς Βαιθλεεμ ἐν ἀρχη̨̃ θερισμου̃ κριθω̃ν (Ⅳ)

- ‫ 22 ׃1 ותשב נעמי ורות המואביה כלתה עמה השבה משדי מואב והמה באו בית לחם בתחלת קציר שערים ‬ (Ⅴ)
