70. 0  
The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
70. 1  
A questioner asked about the chastisement which must befall
- Saala sailun biAAathabin waqiAAin (Ⅰ)
- A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall (Ⅱ)
- A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ (Ⅳ)
- A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- (Ⅵ)
70. 2  
The unbelievers, which none can avert,
- Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAAun (Ⅰ)
- Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, (Ⅱ)
- for the unbelievers, which none may avert, (Ⅲ)
- لِّلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ (Ⅳ)
- The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- (Ⅵ)
70. 3  
From Allah, the Lord of the Ascending Stairways.
- Mina Allahi thee almaAAariji (Ⅰ)
- From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways (Ⅱ)
- from God, the Lord of the Stairways. (Ⅲ)
- مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ (Ⅳ)
- (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. (Ⅵ)
70. 4  
To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a Day the measure of which is fifty thousand years.
- TaAAruju almalaikatu waalrroohu ilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfa sanatin (Ⅰ)
- (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. (Ⅱ)
- To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. (Ⅲ)
- تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: (Ⅵ)
70. 5  
Therefore endure with a goodly patience.
- Faisbir sabran jameelan (Ⅰ)
- But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. (Ⅱ)
- So be thou patient with a sweet patience; (Ⅲ)
- فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا (Ⅳ)
- Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). (Ⅵ)
70. 6  
Surely they think it to be far off,
- Innahum yarawnahu baAAeedan (Ⅰ)
- Lo! they behold it afar off (Ⅱ)
- behold, they see it as if far off; (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا (Ⅳ)
- They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): (Ⅵ)
70. 7  
And We see it nigh.
- Wanarahu qareeban (Ⅰ)
- While we behold it nigh: (Ⅱ)
- but We see it is nigh. (Ⅲ)
- وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا (Ⅳ)
- But We see it (quite) near. (Ⅵ)
70. 8  
On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper
- Yawma takoonu alssamao kaalmuhli (Ⅰ)
- The day when the sky will become as molten copper, (Ⅱ)
- Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ (Ⅳ)
- The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, (Ⅵ)
70. 9  
And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool
- Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni (Ⅰ)
- And the hills become as flakes of wool, (Ⅱ)
- and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, (Ⅲ)
- وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ (Ⅳ)
- And the mountains will be like wool, (Ⅵ)
70. 10  
And friend shall not ask of friend
- Wala yasalu hameemun hameeman (Ⅰ)
- And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend (Ⅱ)
- no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, (Ⅲ)
- وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا (Ⅳ)
- And no friend will ask after a friend, (Ⅵ)
70. 11  
Though they shall be given sight of each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by sacrificing his children,
- Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu law yaftadee min AAathabi yawmiithin bibaneehi (Ⅰ)
- Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children (Ⅱ)
- as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, (Ⅲ)
- يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner´s desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, (Ⅵ)
70. 12  
And his wife and his brother
- Wasahibatihi waakheehi (Ⅰ)
- And his spouse and his brother (Ⅱ)
- his companion wife, his brother, (Ⅲ)
- وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- His wife and his brother, (Ⅵ)
70. 13  
And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter,
- Wafaseelatihi allatee tuweehi (Ⅰ)
- And his kin that harboured him (Ⅱ)
- his kin who sheltered him, (Ⅲ)
- وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- His kindred who sheltered him, (Ⅵ)
70. 14  
And all those that are in the earth, hoping to be delivered.
- Waman fee alardi jameeAAan thumma yunjeehi (Ⅰ)
- And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. (Ⅱ)
- and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: (Ⅵ)
70. 15  
By no means! Surely it is a flaming Fire
- Kalla innaha latha (Ⅰ)
- But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell (Ⅱ)
- Nay, verily it is a furnace (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- (Ⅵ)
70. 16  
Dragging him right to his skull,
- NazzaAAatan lilshshawa (Ⅰ)
- Eager to roast; (Ⅱ)
- snatching away the scalp, (Ⅲ)
- نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- (Ⅵ)
70. 17  
It calls him who turned and fled from truth,
- TadAAoo man adbara watawalla (Ⅰ)
- It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), (Ⅱ)
- calling him who drew back and turned away, (Ⅲ)
- تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). (Ⅵ)
70. 18  
And amasses wealth then locks it up.
- WajamaAAa faawAAa (Ⅰ)
- And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. (Ⅱ)
- who amassed and hoarded. (Ⅲ)
- وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! (Ⅵ)
70. 19  
Surely man is created anxious (or impatient)
- Inna alinsana khuliqa halooAAan (Ⅰ)
- Lo! man was created anxious, (Ⅱ)
- Surely man was created fretful, (Ⅲ)
- ۞ إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا (Ⅳ)
- Truly man was created very impatient;- (Ⅵ)
70. 20  
Fretful when evil afflicts him
- Itha massahu alshsharru jazooAAan (Ⅰ)
- Fretful when evil befalleth him (Ⅱ)
- when evil visits him, impatient, (Ⅲ)
- إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا (Ⅳ)
- Fretful when evil touches him; (Ⅵ)
70. 21  
And niggardly when good befalls him
- Waitha massahu alkhayru manooAAan (Ⅰ)
- And, when good befalleth him, grudging; (Ⅱ)
- when good visits him, grudging, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا (Ⅳ)
- And niggardly when good reaches him;- (Ⅵ)
70. 22  
Except those who pray -
- Illa almusalleena (Ⅰ)
- Save worshippers. (Ⅱ)
- save those that pray (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ (Ⅳ)
- Not so those devoted to Prayer;- (Ⅵ)
70. 23  
Those who are constant (or devoted) at their prayer
- Allatheena hum AAala salatihim daimoona (Ⅰ)
- Who are constant at their worship (Ⅱ)
- and continue at their prayers, (Ⅲ)
- الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; (Ⅵ)
70. 24  
And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion
- Waallatheena fee amwalihim haqqun maAAloomun (Ⅰ)
- And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged (Ⅱ)
- those in whose wealth is a right known (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ (Ⅳ)
- And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. (Ⅵ)
70. 25  
For him who begs and for him who is destitute
- Lilssaili waalmahroomi (Ⅰ)
- For the beggar and the destitute; (Ⅱ)
- for the beggar and the outcast, (Ⅲ)
- لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ (Ⅳ)
- For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); (Ⅵ)
70. 26  
And those who accept the truth of the Day of Judgment
- Waallatheena yusaddiqoona biyawmi alddeeni (Ⅰ)
- And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, (Ⅱ)
- who confirm the Day of Doom (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ (Ⅳ)
- And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; (Ⅵ)
70. 27  
And those who are fearful of the displeasure of their Lord, -
- Waallatheena hum min AAathabi rabbihim mushfiqoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - (Ⅱ)
- and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- (Ⅵ)
70. 28  
Surely the displeasure of their Lord is a thing before which none can feel secure (or is the opposite of peace and tranquillity) -
- Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru mamoonin (Ⅰ)
- Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - (Ⅱ)
- (from their Lord´s chastisement none feels secure) (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ (Ⅳ)
- For their Lord´s displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- (Ⅵ)
70. 29  
And those who guard their chastity,
- Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who preserve their chastity (Ⅱ)
- and guard their private parts (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who guard their chastity, (Ⅵ)
70. 30  
Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess - for on these surely is no blame,
- Illa AAala azwajihim aw ma malakat aymanuhum fainnahum ghayru maloomeena (Ⅰ)
- Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; (Ⅱ)
- save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, (Ⅵ)
70. 31  
But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that transgress beyond bounds -
- Famani ibtagha waraa thalika faolaika humu alAAadoona (Ⅰ)
- But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; (Ⅱ)
- (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), (Ⅲ)
- فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ (Ⅳ)
- But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- (Ⅵ)
70. 32  
And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant
- Waallatheena hum liamanatihim waAAahdihim raAAoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, (Ⅱ)
- and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who respect their trusts and covenants; (Ⅵ)
70. 33  
And those who are upright in their testimonies,
- Waallatheena hum bishahadatihim qaimoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who stand by their testimony (Ⅱ)
- and perform their witnessings, (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who stand firm in their testimonies; (Ⅵ)
70. 34  
And those who keep guard (the sacredness of) their worship,
- Waallatheena hum AAala salatihim yuhafithoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who are attentive at their worship. (Ⅱ)
- and who observe their prayers. (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- (Ⅵ)
70. 35  
Those shall be in Gardens, honoured.
- Olaika fee jannatin mukramoona (Ⅰ)
- These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. (Ⅱ)
- Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. (Ⅲ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). (Ⅵ)
70. 36  
But what ails those who disbelieve that they rush around you (Muhammad) open-eyed (in mock amazement),
- Famali allatheena kafaroo qibalaka muhtiAAeena (Ⅰ)
- What aileth those who disbelieve, that they keep staring toward thee (O Muhammad), open-eyed, (Ⅱ)
- What ails the unbelievers, running with outstretched necks (Ⅲ)
- فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Now what is the matter with the Unbelievers that they rush madly before thee- (Ⅵ)
70. 37  
On the right hand and on the left, in sundry groups?
- AAani alyameeni waAAani alshshimali AAizeena (Ⅰ)
- On the right and on the left, in groups ? (Ⅱ)
- towards thee on the right hand and on the left hand in knots? (Ⅲ)
- عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ (Ⅳ)
- From the right and from the left, in crowds? (Ⅵ)
70. 38  
Does every man of them desire that he should be made to enter the Garden of Bliss?
- AyatmaAAu kullu imriin minhum an yudkhala jannata naAAeemin (Ⅰ)
- Doth every man among them hope to enter the Garden of Delight ? (Ⅱ)
- What, is every man of them eager to be admitted to a Garden of Bliss? (Ⅲ)
- أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss? (Ⅵ)
70. 39  
By no means! Surely We have created them of what they know (earth and spirit).
- Kalla inna khalaqnahum mimma yaAAlamoona (Ⅰ)
- Nay, verily. Lo! We created them from what they know. (Ⅱ)
- Not so; for We have created them of what they know. (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- By no means! For We have created them out of the (base matter) they know! (Ⅵ)
70. 40  
But nay! I swear by (or call to witness) the Lord of all points of the rising and setting places East and West that We are certainly Able
- Fala oqsimu birabbi almashariqi waalmagharibi inna laqadiroona (Ⅰ)
- But nay! I swear by the Lord of the rising-places and the setting-places of the planets that We verily are Able (Ⅱ)
- No! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and Wests, surely We are able (Ⅲ)
- فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly- (Ⅵ)
70. 41  
To replace them with others better than them, and We shall not be overcome.
- AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wama nahnu bimasbooqeena (Ⅰ)
- To replace them by (others) better than them. And we are not to be outrun. (Ⅱ)
- to substitute a better than they; We shall not be outstripped. (Ⅲ)
- عَلَىٰ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan). (Ⅵ)
70. 42  
Therefore leave them alone to go on with the false discourses and to sport until they come face to face with that Day of theirs with which they are warned;
- Fatharhum yakhoodoo wayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee yooAAadoona (Ⅰ)
- So let them chat and play until they meet their Day which they are promised, (Ⅱ)
- Then leave them alone to plunge and play until they encounter that day of theirs which they are promised, (Ⅲ)
- فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ (Ⅳ)
- So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!- (Ⅵ)
70. 43  
The Day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were racing to a goal,
- Yawma yakhrujoona mina alajdathi siraAAan kaannahum ila nusubin yoofidoona (Ⅰ)
- The day when they come forth from the graves in haste, as racing to a goal, (Ⅱ)
- the day they shall come forth from the tombs hastily, as if they were hurrying unto a waymark, (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ (Ⅳ)
- The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),- (Ⅵ)
70. 44  
Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the Day which they were promised.
- KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allathee kanoo yooAAadoona (Ⅰ)
- With eyes aghast, abasement stupefying them: Such is the Day which they are promised. (Ⅱ)
- humbled their eyes, overspreading them abasement. That is the day which they were promised. (Ⅲ)
- خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised! (Ⅵ)
