70. 0  
Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
70. 1  
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall
- Saala sailun biAAathabin waqiAAin (Ⅰ)
- A questioner asked about the chastisement which must befall (Ⅱ)
- A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ (Ⅳ)
- A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- (Ⅵ)
70. 2  
for the unbelievers, which none may avert,
- Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAAun (Ⅰ)
- The unbelievers, which none can avert, (Ⅱ)
- Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, (Ⅲ)
- لِّلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ (Ⅳ)
- The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- (Ⅵ)
70. 3  
from God, the Lord of the Stairways.
- Mina Allahi thee almaAAariji (Ⅰ)
- From Allah, the Lord of the Ascending Stairways. (Ⅱ)
- From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways (Ⅲ)
- مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ (Ⅳ)
- (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. (Ⅵ)
70. 4  
To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years.
- TaAAruju almalaikatu waalrroohu ilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfa sanatin (Ⅰ)
- To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a Day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. (Ⅱ)
- (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. (Ⅲ)
- تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ (Ⅳ)
- The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: (Ⅵ)
70. 5  
So be thou patient with a sweet patience;
- Faisbir sabran jameelan (Ⅰ)
- Therefore endure with a goodly patience. (Ⅱ)
- But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. (Ⅲ)
- فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا (Ⅳ)
- Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). (Ⅵ)
70. 6  
behold, they see it as if far off;
- Innahum yarawnahu baAAeedan (Ⅰ)
- Surely they think it to be far off, (Ⅱ)
- Lo! they behold it afar off (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا (Ⅳ)
- They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): (Ⅵ)
70. 7  
but We see it is nigh.
- Wanarahu qareeban (Ⅰ)
- And We see it nigh. (Ⅱ)
- While we behold it nigh: (Ⅲ)
- وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا (Ⅳ)
- But We see it (quite) near. (Ⅵ)
70. 8  
Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper
- Yawma takoonu alssamao kaalmuhli (Ⅰ)
- On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper (Ⅱ)
- The day when the sky will become as molten copper, (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ (Ⅳ)
- The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, (Ⅵ)
70. 9  
and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts,
- Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni (Ⅰ)
- And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool (Ⅱ)
- And the hills become as flakes of wool, (Ⅲ)
- وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ (Ⅳ)
- And the mountains will be like wool, (Ⅵ)
70. 10  
no loyal friend shall question loyal friend,
- Wala yasalu hameemun hameeman (Ⅰ)
- And friend shall not ask of friend (Ⅱ)
- And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend (Ⅲ)
- وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا (Ⅳ)
- And no friend will ask after a friend, (Ⅵ)
70. 11  
as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons,
- Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu law yaftadee min AAathabi yawmiithin bibaneehi (Ⅰ)
- Though they shall be given sight of each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by sacrificing his children, (Ⅱ)
- Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children (Ⅲ)
- يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner´s desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, (Ⅵ)
70. 12  
his companion wife, his brother,
- Wasahibatihi waakheehi (Ⅰ)
- And his wife and his brother (Ⅱ)
- And his spouse and his brother (Ⅲ)
- وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- His wife and his brother, (Ⅵ)
70. 13  
his kin who sheltered him,
- Wafaseelatihi allatee tuweehi (Ⅰ)
- And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, (Ⅱ)
- And his kin that harboured him (Ⅲ)
- وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- His kindred who sheltered him, (Ⅵ)
70. 14  
and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him.
- Waman fee alardi jameeAAan thumma yunjeehi (Ⅰ)
- And all those that are in the earth, hoping to be delivered. (Ⅱ)
- And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ (Ⅳ)
- And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: (Ⅵ)
70. 15  
Nay, verily it is a furnace
- Kalla innaha latha (Ⅰ)
- By no means! Surely it is a flaming Fire (Ⅱ)
- But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- (Ⅵ)
70. 16  
snatching away the scalp,
- NazzaAAatan lilshshawa (Ⅰ)
- Dragging him right to his skull, (Ⅱ)
- Eager to roast; (Ⅲ)
- نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- (Ⅵ)
70. 17  
calling him who drew back and turned away,
- TadAAoo man adbara watawalla (Ⅰ)
- It calls him who turned and fled from truth, (Ⅱ)
- It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), (Ⅲ)
- تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). (Ⅵ)
70. 18  
who amassed and hoarded.
- WajamaAAa faawAAa (Ⅰ)
- And amasses wealth then locks it up. (Ⅱ)
- And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. (Ⅲ)
- وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! (Ⅵ)
70. 19  
Surely man was created fretful,
- Inna alinsana khuliqa halooAAan (Ⅰ)
- Surely man is created anxious (or impatient) (Ⅱ)
- Lo! man was created anxious, (Ⅲ)
- ۞ إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا (Ⅳ)
- Truly man was created very impatient;- (Ⅵ)
70. 20  
when evil visits him, impatient,
- Itha massahu alshsharru jazooAAan (Ⅰ)
- Fretful when evil afflicts him (Ⅱ)
- Fretful when evil befalleth him (Ⅲ)
- إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا (Ⅳ)
- Fretful when evil touches him; (Ⅵ)
70. 21  
when good visits him, grudging,
- Waitha massahu alkhayru manooAAan (Ⅰ)
- And niggardly when good befalls him (Ⅱ)
- And, when good befalleth him, grudging; (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا (Ⅳ)
- And niggardly when good reaches him;- (Ⅵ)
70. 22  
save those that pray
- Illa almusalleena (Ⅰ)
- Except those who pray - (Ⅱ)
- Save worshippers. (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ (Ⅳ)
- Not so those devoted to Prayer;- (Ⅵ)
70. 23  
and continue at their prayers,
- Allatheena hum AAala salatihim daimoona (Ⅰ)
- Those who are constant (or devoted) at their prayer (Ⅱ)
- Who are constant at their worship (Ⅲ)
- الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; (Ⅵ)
70. 24  
those in whose wealth is a right known
- Waallatheena fee amwalihim haqqun maAAloomun (Ⅰ)
- And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion (Ⅱ)
- And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ (Ⅳ)
- And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. (Ⅵ)
70. 25  
for the beggar and the outcast,
- Lilssaili waalmahroomi (Ⅰ)
- For him who begs and for him who is destitute (Ⅱ)
- For the beggar and the destitute; (Ⅲ)
- لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ (Ⅳ)
- For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); (Ⅵ)
70. 26  
who confirm the Day of Doom
- Waallatheena yusaddiqoona biyawmi alddeeni (Ⅰ)
- And those who accept the truth of the Day of Judgment (Ⅱ)
- And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ (Ⅳ)
- And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; (Ⅵ)
70. 27  
and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord
- Waallatheena hum min AAathabi rabbihim mushfiqoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who are fearful of the displeasure of their Lord, - (Ⅱ)
- And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- (Ⅵ)
70. 28  
(from their Lord´s chastisement none feels secure)
- Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru mamoonin (Ⅰ)
- Surely the displeasure of their Lord is a thing before which none can feel secure (or is the opposite of peace and tranquillity) - (Ⅱ)
- Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ (Ⅳ)
- For their Lord´s displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- (Ⅵ)
70. 29  
and guard their private parts
- Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who guard their chastity, (Ⅱ)
- And those who preserve their chastity (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who guard their chastity, (Ⅵ)
70. 30  
save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy
- Illa AAala azwajihim aw ma malakat aymanuhum fainnahum ghayru maloomeena (Ⅰ)
- Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess - for on these surely is no blame, (Ⅱ)
- Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, (Ⅵ)
70. 31  
(but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors),
- Famani ibtagha waraa thalika faolaika humu alAAadoona (Ⅰ)
- But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that transgress beyond bounds - (Ⅱ)
- But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; (Ⅲ)
- فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ (Ⅳ)
- But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- (Ⅵ)
70. 32  
and who preserve their trusts and their covenant,
- Waallatheena hum liamanatihim waAAahdihim raAAoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant (Ⅱ)
- And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who respect their trusts and covenants; (Ⅵ)
70. 33  
and perform their witnessings,
- Waallatheena hum bishahadatihim qaimoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who are upright in their testimonies, (Ⅱ)
- And those who stand by their testimony (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who stand firm in their testimonies; (Ⅵ)
70. 34  
and who observe their prayers.
- Waallatheena hum AAala salatihim yuhafithoona (Ⅰ)
- And those who keep guard (the sacredness of) their worship, (Ⅱ)
- And those who are attentive at their worship. (Ⅲ)
- وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- (Ⅵ)
70. 35  
Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured.
- Olaika fee jannatin mukramoona (Ⅰ)
- Those shall be in Gardens, honoured. (Ⅱ)
- These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. (Ⅲ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). (Ⅵ)
70. 36  
What ails the unbelievers, running with outstretched necks
- Famali allatheena kafaroo qibalaka muhtiAAeena (Ⅰ)
- But what ails those who disbelieve that they rush around you (Muhammad) open-eyed (in mock amazement), (Ⅱ)
- What aileth those who disbelieve, that they keep staring toward thee (O Muhammad), open-eyed, (Ⅲ)
- فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Now what is the matter with the Unbelievers that they rush madly before thee- (Ⅵ)
70. 37  
towards thee on the right hand and on the left hand in knots?
- AAani alyameeni waAAani alshshimali AAizeena (Ⅰ)
- On the right hand and on the left, in sundry groups? (Ⅱ)
- On the right and on the left, in groups ? (Ⅲ)
- عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ (Ⅳ)
- From the right and from the left, in crowds? (Ⅵ)
70. 38  
What, is every man of them eager to be admitted to a Garden of Bliss?
- AyatmaAAu kullu imriin minhum an yudkhala jannata naAAeemin (Ⅰ)
- Does every man of them desire that he should be made to enter the Garden of Bliss? (Ⅱ)
- Doth every man among them hope to enter the Garden of Delight ? (Ⅲ)
- أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss? (Ⅵ)
70. 39  
Not so; for We have created them of what they know.
- Kalla inna khalaqnahum mimma yaAAlamoona (Ⅰ)
- By no means! Surely We have created them of what they know (earth and spirit). (Ⅱ)
- Nay, verily. Lo! We created them from what they know. (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- By no means! For We have created them out of the (base matter) they know! (Ⅵ)
70. 40  
No! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and Wests, surely We are able
- Fala oqsimu birabbi almashariqi waalmagharibi inna laqadiroona (Ⅰ)
- But nay! I swear by (or call to witness) the Lord of all points of the rising and setting places East and West that We are certainly Able (Ⅱ)
- But nay! I swear by the Lord of the rising-places and the setting-places of the planets that We verily are Able (Ⅲ)
- فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly- (Ⅵ)
70. 41  
to substitute a better than they; We shall not be outstripped.
- AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wama nahnu bimasbooqeena (Ⅰ)
- To replace them with others better than them, and We shall not be overcome. (Ⅱ)
- To replace them by (others) better than them. And we are not to be outrun. (Ⅲ)
- عَلَىٰ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan). (Ⅵ)
70. 42  
Then leave them alone to plunge and play until they encounter that day of theirs which they are promised,
- Fatharhum yakhoodoo wayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee yooAAadoona (Ⅰ)
- Therefore leave them alone to go on with the false discourses and to sport until they come face to face with that Day of theirs with which they are warned; (Ⅱ)
- So let them chat and play until they meet their Day which they are promised, (Ⅲ)
- فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ (Ⅳ)
- So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!- (Ⅵ)
70. 43  
the day they shall come forth from the tombs hastily, as if they were hurrying unto a waymark,
- Yawma yakhrujoona mina alajdathi siraAAan kaannahum ila nusubin yoofidoona (Ⅰ)
- The Day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were racing to a goal, (Ⅱ)
- The day when they come forth from the graves in haste, as racing to a goal, (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ (Ⅳ)
- The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),- (Ⅵ)
70. 44  
humbled their eyes, overspreading them abasement. That is the day which they were promised.
- KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allathee kanoo yooAAadoona (Ⅰ)
- Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the Day which they were promised. (Ⅱ)
- With eyes aghast, abasement stupefying them: Such is the Day which they are promised. (Ⅲ)
- خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised! (Ⅵ)
