81. 0  
Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅴ)
81. 1  
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up;
- Itha alshshamsu kuwwirat (Ⅰ)
- When the sun is overthrown (or folded up), (Ⅱ)
- When the sun is overthrown, (Ⅲ)
- When the sun shall be darkened, (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 2  
When the stars fall, losing their lustre;
- Waitha alnnujoomu inkadarat (Ⅰ)
- And when the stars darken, (Ⅱ)
- And when the stars fall, (Ⅲ)
- when the stars shall be thrown down, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 3  
When the mountains vanish (like a mirage);
- Waitha aljibalu suyyirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the mountains pass away, (Ⅱ)
- And when the hills are moved, (Ⅲ)
- when the mountains shall be set moving, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 4  
When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended;
- Waitha alAAisharu AAuttilat (Ⅰ)
- And when the she-camels (with young) are left untended, (Ⅱ)
- And when the camels big with young are abandoned, (Ⅲ)
- when the pregnant camels shall be neglected, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 5  
When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations);
- Waitha alwuhooshu hushirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the wild beasts are herded together (Ⅱ)
- And when the wild beasts are herded together, (Ⅲ)
- when the savage beasts shall be mustered, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 6  
When the oceans boil over with a swell;
- Waitha albiharu sujjirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the seas swell and boil, (Ⅱ)
- And when the seas rise, (Ⅲ)
- when the seas shall be set boiling, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 7  
When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like);
- Waitha alnnufoosu zuwwijat (Ⅰ)
- And when souls are sorted and reunited, (Ⅱ)
- And when souls are reunited, (Ⅲ)
- when the souls shall be coupled, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 8  
When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned -
- Waitha almawoodatu suilat (Ⅰ)
- And when the female infant buried alive is asked (Ⅱ)
- And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked (Ⅲ)
- when the buried infant shall be asked (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 9  
For what crime she was killed;
- Biayyi thanbin qutilat (Ⅰ)
- For what sin she was killed, (Ⅱ)
- For what sin she was slain, (Ⅲ)
- for what sin she was slain, (Ⅳ)
- بِأَيِّ ذَنبٍ قُتِلَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 10  
When the scrolls are laid open;
- Waitha alssuhufu nushirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the Record Books are spread open, (Ⅱ)
- And when the pages are laid open, (Ⅲ)
- when the scrolls shall be unrolled, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 11  
When the world on High is unveiled;
- Waitha alssamao kushitat (Ⅰ)
- And when the heavens are unveiled, (Ⅱ)
- And when the sky is torn away, (Ⅲ)
- when heaven shall be stripped off; (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 12  
When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat;
- Waitha aljaheemu suAAAAirat (Ⅰ)
- And when Hell is kindled up, (Ⅱ)
- And when hell is lighted, (Ⅲ)
- when Hell shall be set blazing, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 13  
And when the Garden is brought near;-
- Waitha aljannatu ozlifat (Ⅰ)
- And when the Garden is brought nigh, (Ⅱ)
- And when the Garden is brought nigh, (Ⅲ)
- when Paradise shall be brought nigh, (Ⅳ)
- وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 14  
(Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward.
- AAalimat nafsun ma ahdarat (Ⅰ)
- Every soul shall then know what it has prepared. (Ⅱ)
- (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. (Ⅲ)
- then shall a soul know what it has produced. (Ⅳ)
- عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا أَحْضَرَتْ (Ⅴ)
81. 15  
So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede,
- Fala oqsimu bialkhunnasi (Ⅰ)
- But nay! I swear by (or call to witness) the Planets, (Ⅱ)
- Oh, but I call to witness the planets, (Ⅲ)
- No! I swear by the slinkers, (Ⅳ)
- فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ (Ⅴ)
81. 16  
Go straight, or hide;
- Aljawari alkunnasi (Ⅰ)
- That run their course and hide themselves, (Ⅱ)
- The stars which rise and set, (Ⅲ)
- the runners, the sinkers, (Ⅳ)
- الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ (Ⅴ)
81. 17  
And the Night as it dissipates;
- Waallayli itha AAasAAasa (Ⅰ)
- And the Night when it departs, (Ⅱ)
- And the close of night, (Ⅲ)
- by the night swarming, (Ⅳ)
- وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ (Ⅴ)
81. 18  
And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;-
- Waalssubhi itha tanaffasa (Ⅰ)
- And the Dawn when it breaths away the darkness, (Ⅱ)
- And the breath of morning (Ⅲ)
- by the dawn sighing, (Ⅳ)
- وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ (Ⅴ)
81. 19  
Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger,
- Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareemin (Ⅰ)
- Most surely it is the Word of an honourable Messenger, (Ⅱ)
- That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, (Ⅲ)
- truly this is the word of a noble Messenger (Ⅳ)
- إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ (Ⅴ)
81. 20  
Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne,
- Thee quwwatin AAinda thee alAAarshi makeenin (Ⅰ)
- The possessor of power and high rank with the Lord of the Throne, (Ⅱ)
- Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, (Ⅲ)
- having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, (Ⅳ)
- ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ (Ⅴ)
81. 21  
With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust.
- MutaAAin thamma ameenin (Ⅰ)
- One to be obeyed, and faithful to his trust. (Ⅱ)
- (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; (Ⅲ)
- obeyed, moreover trusty. (Ⅳ)
- مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ (Ⅴ)
81. 22  
And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed;
- Wama sahibukum bimajnoonin (Ⅰ)
- And your companion is not one possessed (or mad). (Ⅱ)
- And your comrade is not mad. (Ⅲ)
- Your companion is not possessed; (Ⅳ)
- وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ (Ⅴ)
81. 23  
And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon.
- Walaqad raahu bialofuqi almubeeni (Ⅰ)
- And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. (Ⅱ)
- Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. (Ⅲ)
- he truly saw him on the clear horizon; (Ⅳ)
- وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ (Ⅴ)
81. 24  
Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen.
- Wama huwa AAala alghaybi bidaneenin (Ⅰ)
- Nor is he a tenacious concealer of the unseen. (Ⅱ)
- And he is not avid of the Unseen. (Ⅲ)
- he is not niggardly of the Unseen. (Ⅳ)
- وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ (Ⅴ)
81. 25  
Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed.
- Wama huwa biqawli shaytanin rajeemin (Ⅰ)
- Nor is it the word of the cursed Satan, (Ⅱ)
- Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. (Ⅲ)
- And it is not the word of an accursed Satan; (Ⅳ)
- وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيمٍ (Ⅴ)
81. 26  
When whither go ye?
- Faayna tathhaboona (Ⅰ)
- Whither then will you go? (Ⅱ)
- Whither then go ye ? (Ⅲ)
- where then are you going? (Ⅳ)
- فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ (Ⅴ)
81. 27  
Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds:
- In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- It is naught but a reminder unto all creation (or all the worlds), (Ⅱ)
- This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, (Ⅲ)
- It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, (Ⅳ)
- إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅴ)
81. 28  
(With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight:
- Liman shaa minkum an yastaqeema (Ⅰ)
- For him among you who wills to go straight. (Ⅱ)
- Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. (Ⅲ)
- for whosoever of you who would go straight; (Ⅳ)
- لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ (Ⅴ)
81. 29  
But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds.
- Wama tashaoona illa an yashaa Allahu rabbu alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- And you will not, unless Allah wills, the Lord (or Cherisher) of Creation (or all the Worlds). (Ⅱ)
- And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. (Ⅲ)
- but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. (Ⅳ)
- وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅴ)
