81. 0  
The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
81. 1  
When the sun is overthrown (or folded up),
- Itha alshshamsu kuwwirat (Ⅰ)
- When the sun is overthrown, (Ⅱ)
- When the sun shall be darkened, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; (Ⅵ)
81. 2  
And when the stars darken,
- Waitha alnnujoomu inkadarat (Ⅰ)
- And when the stars fall, (Ⅱ)
- when the stars shall be thrown down, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the stars fall, losing their lustre; (Ⅵ)
81. 3  
And when the mountains pass away,
- Waitha aljibalu suyyirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the hills are moved, (Ⅱ)
- when the mountains shall be set moving, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); (Ⅵ)
81. 4  
And when the she-camels (with young) are left untended,
- Waitha alAAisharu AAuttilat (Ⅰ)
- And when the camels big with young are abandoned, (Ⅱ)
- when the pregnant camels shall be neglected, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; (Ⅵ)
81. 5  
And when the wild beasts are herded together
- Waitha alwuhooshu hushirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the wild beasts are herded together, (Ⅱ)
- when the savage beasts shall be mustered, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); (Ⅵ)
81. 6  
And when the seas swell and boil,
- Waitha albiharu sujjirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the seas rise, (Ⅱ)
- when the seas shall be set boiling, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the oceans boil over with a swell; (Ⅵ)
81. 7  
And when souls are sorted and reunited,
- Waitha alnnufoosu zuwwijat (Ⅰ)
- And when souls are reunited, (Ⅱ)
- when the souls shall be coupled, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); (Ⅵ)
81. 8  
And when the female infant buried alive is asked
- Waitha almawoodatu suilat (Ⅰ)
- And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked (Ⅱ)
- when the buried infant shall be asked (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned - (Ⅵ)
81. 9  
For what sin she was killed,
- Biayyi thanbin qutilat (Ⅰ)
- For what sin she was slain, (Ⅱ)
- for what sin she was slain, (Ⅲ)
- بِأَيِّ ذَنبٍ قُتِلَتْ (Ⅳ)
- For what crime she was killed; (Ⅵ)
81. 10  
And when the Record Books are spread open,
- Waitha alssuhufu nushirat (Ⅰ)
- And when the pages are laid open, (Ⅱ)
- when the scrolls shall be unrolled, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the scrolls are laid open; (Ⅵ)
81. 11  
And when the heavens are unveiled,
- Waitha alssamao kushitat (Ⅰ)
- And when the sky is torn away, (Ⅱ)
- when heaven shall be stripped off; (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the world on High is unveiled; (Ⅵ)
81. 12  
And when Hell is kindled up,
- Waitha aljaheemu suAAAAirat (Ⅰ)
- And when hell is lighted, (Ⅱ)
- when Hell shall be set blazing, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; (Ⅵ)
81. 13  
And when the Garden is brought nigh,
- Waitha aljannatu ozlifat (Ⅰ)
- And when the Garden is brought nigh, (Ⅱ)
- when Paradise shall be brought nigh, (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ (Ⅳ)
- And when the Garden is brought near;- (Ⅵ)
81. 14  
Every soul shall then know what it has prepared.
- AAalimat nafsun ma ahdarat (Ⅰ)
- (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. (Ⅱ)
- then shall a soul know what it has produced. (Ⅲ)
- عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا أَحْضَرَتْ (Ⅳ)
- (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. (Ⅵ)
81. 15  
But nay! I swear by (or call to witness) the Planets,
- Fala oqsimu bialkhunnasi (Ⅰ)
- Oh, but I call to witness the planets, (Ⅱ)
- No! I swear by the slinkers, (Ⅲ)
- فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ (Ⅳ)
- So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede, (Ⅵ)
81. 16  
That run their course and hide themselves,
- Aljawari alkunnasi (Ⅰ)
- The stars which rise and set, (Ⅱ)
- the runners, the sinkers, (Ⅲ)
- الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ (Ⅳ)
- Go straight, or hide; (Ⅵ)
81. 17  
And the Night when it departs,
- Waallayli itha AAasAAasa (Ⅰ)
- And the close of night, (Ⅱ)
- by the night swarming, (Ⅲ)
- وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ (Ⅳ)
- And the Night as it dissipates; (Ⅵ)
81. 18  
And the Dawn when it breaths away the darkness,
- Waalssubhi itha tanaffasa (Ⅰ)
- And the breath of morning (Ⅱ)
- by the dawn sighing, (Ⅲ)
- وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ (Ⅳ)
- And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- (Ⅵ)
81. 19  
Most surely it is the Word of an honourable Messenger,
- Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareemin (Ⅰ)
- That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, (Ⅱ)
- truly this is the word of a noble Messenger (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, (Ⅵ)
81. 20  
The possessor of power and high rank with the Lord of the Throne,
- Thee quwwatin AAinda thee alAAarshi makeenin (Ⅰ)
- Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, (Ⅱ)
- having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, (Ⅲ)
- ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ (Ⅳ)
- Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, (Ⅵ)
81. 21  
One to be obeyed, and faithful to his trust.
- MutaAAin thamma ameenin (Ⅰ)
- (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; (Ⅱ)
- obeyed, moreover trusty. (Ⅲ)
- مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ (Ⅳ)
- With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. (Ⅵ)
81. 22  
And your companion is not one possessed (or mad).
- Wama sahibukum bimajnoonin (Ⅰ)
- And your comrade is not mad. (Ⅱ)
- Your companion is not possessed; (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ (Ⅳ)
- And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; (Ⅵ)
81. 23  
And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon.
- Walaqad raahu bialofuqi almubeeni (Ⅰ)
- Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. (Ⅱ)
- he truly saw him on the clear horizon; (Ⅲ)
- وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ (Ⅳ)
- And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. (Ⅵ)
81. 24  
Nor is he a tenacious concealer of the unseen.
- Wama huwa AAala alghaybi bidaneenin (Ⅰ)
- And he is not avid of the Unseen. (Ⅱ)
- he is not niggardly of the Unseen. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ (Ⅳ)
- Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. (Ⅵ)
81. 25  
Nor is it the word of the cursed Satan,
- Wama huwa biqawli shaytanin rajeemin (Ⅰ)
- Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. (Ⅱ)
- And it is not the word of an accursed Satan; (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَّجِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. (Ⅵ)
81. 26  
Whither then will you go?
- Faayna tathhaboona (Ⅰ)
- Whither then go ye ? (Ⅱ)
- where then are you going? (Ⅲ)
- فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- When whither go ye? (Ⅵ)
81. 27  
It is naught but a reminder unto all creation (or all the worlds),
- In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, (Ⅱ)
- It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, (Ⅲ)
- إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: (Ⅵ)
81. 28  
For him among you who wills to go straight.
- Liman shaa minkum an yastaqeema (Ⅰ)
- Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. (Ⅱ)
- for whosoever of you who would go straight; (Ⅲ)
- لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ (Ⅳ)
- (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: (Ⅵ)
81. 29  
And you will not, unless Allah wills, the Lord (or Cherisher) of Creation (or all the Worlds).
- Wama tashaoona illa an yashaa Allahu rabbu alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. (Ⅱ)
- but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅳ)
- But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds. (Ⅵ)
