The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ) - Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ) - Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)

84.
1
When the heaven is rent asunder
- Itha alssamao inshaqqat (Ⅰ) - When the heaven is split asunder (Ⅱ) - When heaven is rent asunder (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ (Ⅳ) - When the sky is rent asunder, (Ⅵ)

And gives ear unto its Lord, and is dutiful!
- Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat (Ⅰ) - And attentive to her Lord in fear, (Ⅱ) - and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; (Ⅲ) - وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ (Ⅳ) - And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- (Ⅵ)

And when the earth is stretched out
- Waitha alardu muddat (Ⅰ) - And when the earth is spread out (Ⅱ) - when earth is stretched out (Ⅲ) - وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ (Ⅳ) - And when the earth is flattened out, (Ⅵ)

And casts forth what is within it, and is emptied (or clean),
- Waalqat ma feeha watakhallat (Ⅰ) - And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty (Ⅱ) - and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, (Ⅲ) - وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ (Ⅳ) - And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, (Ⅵ)

And gives ear unto its Lord, and is dutiful!
- Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat (Ⅰ) - And attentive to her Lord in fear! (Ⅱ) - and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! (Ⅲ) - وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ (Ⅳ) - And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). (Ⅵ)

O man! Verily, you are toiling on towards your Lord, painfully toiling; wherefore shall you meet Him!
- Ya ayyuha alinsanu innaka kadihun ila rabbika kadhan famulaqeehi (Ⅰ) - Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). (Ⅱ) - O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. (Ⅲ) - يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ (Ⅳ) - O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. (Ⅵ)

84.

And as for him who is given his record in his right hand,
- Faama man ootiya kitabahu biyameenihi (Ⅰ) - Then whoso is given his account in his right hand (Ⅱ) - Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, (Ⅲ) - فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ (Ⅳ) - Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, (Ⅵ)

His account shall be taken with an easy reckoning;
- Fasawfa yuhasabu hisaban yaseeran (Ⅰ) - He truly will receive an easy reckoning (Ⅱ) - he shall surely receive an easy reckoning (Ⅲ) - فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا (Ⅳ) - Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, (Ⅵ)

And he shall go back to his people rejoicing.
- Wayanqalibu ila ahlihi masrooran (Ⅰ) - And will return unto his folk in joy. (Ⅱ) - and he will return to his family joyfully. (Ⅲ) - وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا (Ⅳ) - And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! (Ⅵ)

But as for him who is given his book behind his back,
- Waamma man ootiya kitabahu waraa thahrihi (Ⅰ) - But whoso is given his account behind his back, (Ⅱ) - But as for him who is given his book behind his back, (Ⅲ) - وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ (Ⅳ) - But he who is given his Record behind his back,- (Ⅵ)

He shall call out for destruction,
- Fasawfa yadAAoo thubooran (Ⅰ) - He surely will invoke destruction (Ⅱ) - he shall call for destruction (Ⅲ) - فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا (Ⅳ) - Soon will he cry for perdition, (Ⅵ)

But he shall broil in a blazing Fire!
- Wayasla saAAeeran (Ⅰ) - And be thrown to scorching fire. (Ⅱ) - and he shall roast at a Blaze. (Ⅲ) - وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا (Ⅳ) - And he will enter a Blazing Fire. (Ⅵ)

Verily, he was amongst his family joyful.
- Innahu kana fee ahlihi masrooran (Ⅰ) - He verily lived joyous with his folk, (Ⅱ) - He once lived among his family joyfully; (Ⅲ) - إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا (Ⅳ) - Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! (Ⅵ)

Verily, he thought that he should never return to Allah.
- Innahu thanna an lan yahoora (Ⅰ) - He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). (Ⅱ) - he surely thought he would never revert. (Ⅲ) - إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ (Ⅳ) - Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! (Ⅵ)

Nay, nay! Verily, his Lord did watch him!
- Bala inna rabbahu kana bihi baseeran (Ⅰ) - Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! (Ⅱ) - Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. (Ⅲ) - بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا (Ⅳ) - Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! (Ⅵ)

So I do call as witness the glow of sunset,
- Fala oqsimu bialshshafaqi (Ⅰ) - Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, (Ⅱ) - No! I swear by the twilight (Ⅲ) - فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ (Ⅳ) - So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; (Ⅵ)

Or the night, and its homing,
- Waallayli wama wasaqa (Ⅰ) - And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, (Ⅱ) - and the night and what it envelops (Ⅲ) - وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ (Ⅳ) - The Night and its Homing; (Ⅵ)

Or the moon in her fullness,
- Waalqamari itha ittasaqa (Ⅰ) - And by the moon when she is at the full, (Ⅱ) - and the moon when it is at the full, (Ⅲ) - وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (Ⅳ) - And the Moon in her fullness: (Ⅵ)

You shall surely travel from stage to stage!
- Latarkabunna tabaqan AAan tabaqin (Ⅰ) - That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. (Ⅱ) - you shall surely ride stage after stage. (Ⅲ) - لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ (Ⅳ) - Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. (Ⅵ)

What ails them that they believe not?
- Fama lahum la yuminoona (Ⅰ) - What aileth them, then, that they believe not (Ⅱ) - Then what ails them, that they believe not, (Ⅲ) - فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ (Ⅳ) - What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- (Ⅵ)

And, when the Quran is read to them, they fall not prostrate?
- Waitha quria AAalayhimu alquranu la yasjudoona (Ⅰ) - And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah) ? (Ⅱ) - and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? (Ⅲ) - وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ (Ⅳ) - And when the Qur´an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, (Ⅵ)

84.

On the contrary, the unbelievers reject it.
- Bali allatheena kafaroo yukaththiboona (Ⅰ) - Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; (Ⅱ) - Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, (Ⅲ) - بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ (Ⅳ) - But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). (Ⅵ)

But Allah knows best the (malice) that they hide.
- WaAllahu aAAlamu bima yooAAoona (Ⅰ) - And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. (Ⅱ) - and God knows very well what they are secreting. (Ⅲ) - وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ (Ⅳ) - But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) (Ⅵ)

So announce to them the grievous woe!
- Fabashshirhum biAAathabin aleemin (Ⅰ) - So give them tidings of a painful doom, (Ⅱ) - So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, (Ⅲ) - فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ (Ⅳ) - So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, (Ⅵ)

Save those who believe and work right. For them is an unfailing reward.
- Illa allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lahum ajrun ghayru mamnoonin (Ⅰ) - Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. (Ⅱ) - except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. (Ⅲ) - إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ (Ⅳ) - Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. (Ⅵ)
