The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ) - Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ) - Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)

READ (or proclaim), in the name of your Lord! Who created
- Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqa (Ⅰ) - Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, (Ⅱ) - Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ (Ⅳ) - Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- (Ⅵ)

Created man from a clot!
- Khalaqa alinsana min AAalaqin (Ⅰ) - Createth man from a clot. (Ⅱ) - created Man of a blood-clot. (Ⅲ) - خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ (Ⅳ) - Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: (Ⅵ)

Read (or proclaim), for your Lord is most Bountiful!
- Iqra warabbuka alakramu (Ⅰ) - Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, (Ⅱ) - Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, (Ⅲ) - اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ (Ⅳ) - Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- (Ⅵ)

Who teaches by the pen!
- Allathee AAallama bialqalami (Ⅰ) - Who teacheth by the pen, (Ⅱ) - who taught by the Pen, (Ⅲ) - الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ (Ⅳ) - He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- (Ⅵ)

Taught man what he did not know!
- AAallama alinsana ma lam yaAAlam (Ⅰ) - Teacheth man that which he knew not. (Ⅱ) - taught Man that he knew not. (Ⅲ) - عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ (Ⅳ) - Taught man that which he knew not. (Ⅵ)

Nay, verily, man is indeed rebellious
- Kalla inna alinsana layatgha (Ⅰ) - Nay, but verily man is rebellious (Ⅱ) - No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, (Ⅲ) - كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ (Ⅳ) - Day, but man doth transgress all bounds, (Ⅵ)

In that he thinks himself independent (or self-sufficient or rich)!
- An raahu istaghna (Ⅰ) - That he thinketh himself independent! (Ⅱ) - for he thinks himself self-sufficient. (Ⅲ) - أَن رَّآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ (Ⅳ) - In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. (Ⅵ)

Verily, unto your Lord is the return!
- Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa (Ⅰ) - Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. (Ⅱ) - Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. (Ⅲ) - إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ (Ⅳ) - Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). (Ⅵ)

Have you considered him who forbids?
- Araayta allathee yanha (Ⅰ) - Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth (Ⅱ) - What thinkest thou? He who forbids (Ⅲ) - أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ (Ⅳ) - Seest thou one who forbids- (Ⅵ)

A servant when he prays?
- AAabdan itha salla (Ⅰ) - A slave when he prayeth ? (Ⅱ) - a servant when he prays -- (Ⅲ) - عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ (Ⅳ) - A votary when he (turns) to pray? (Ⅵ)

Have you considered if he were in guidance
- Araayta in kana AAala alhuda (Ⅰ) - Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) (Ⅱ) - What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance (Ⅲ) - أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ (Ⅳ) - Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- (Ⅵ)

Or bade piety?
- Aw amara bialttaqwa (Ⅰ) - Or enjoineth piety ? (Ⅱ) - or bade to godfearing -- (Ⅲ) - أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ (Ⅳ) - Or enjoins Righteousness? (Ⅵ)

Have you considered if he denied the truth, and turned his back?
- Araayta in kaththaba watawalla (Ⅰ) - Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward ? (Ⅱ) - What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - (Ⅲ) - أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (Ⅳ) - Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? (Ⅵ)

Does he not know that Allah can see?
- Alam yaAAlam bianna Allaha yara (Ⅰ) - Is he then unaware that Allah seeth ? (Ⅱ) - Did he not know that God sees? (Ⅲ) - أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ (Ⅳ) - Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? (Ⅵ)

Nay, surely, if he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock!
- Kalla lain lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati (Ⅰ) - Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - (Ⅱ) - No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, (Ⅲ) - كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ (Ⅳ) - Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- (Ⅵ)

The lying sinful forelock!
- Nasiyatin kathibatin khatiatin (Ⅰ) - The lying, sinful forelock - (Ⅱ) - a lying, sinful forelock. (Ⅲ) - نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ (Ⅳ) - A lying, sinful forelock! (Ⅵ)

So let him call his council (or comrades):
- FalyadAAu nadiyahu (Ⅰ) - Then let him call upon his henchmen! (Ⅱ) - So let him call on his concourse! (Ⅲ) - فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ (Ⅳ) - Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): (Ⅵ)

We will call the guards of Hell!
- SanadAAu alzzabaniyata (Ⅰ) - We will call the guards of hell. (Ⅱ) - We shall call on the guards of Hell. (Ⅲ) - سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ (Ⅳ) - We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! (Ⅵ)

Nay, obey him not, but adore and draw nigh (unto Allah)!
- Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib (Ⅰ) - Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). (Ⅱ) - No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. (Ⅲ) - كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب ۩ (Ⅳ) - Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! (Ⅵ)
