96. 0  
Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅴ)
96. 1  
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-
- Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqa (Ⅰ)
- READ (or proclaim), in the name of your Lord! Who created (Ⅱ)
- Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, (Ⅲ)
- Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ (Ⅴ)
96. 2  
Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
- Khalaqa alinsana min AAalaqin (Ⅰ)
- Created man from a clot! (Ⅱ)
- Createth man from a clot. (Ⅲ)
- created Man of a blood-clot. (Ⅳ)
- خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ (Ⅴ)
96. 3  
Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-
- Iqra warabbuka alakramu (Ⅰ)
- Read (or proclaim), for your Lord is most Bountiful! (Ⅱ)
- Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, (Ⅲ)
- Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, (Ⅳ)
- اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ (Ⅴ)
96. 4  
He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-
- Allathee AAallama bialqalami (Ⅰ)
- Who teaches by the pen! (Ⅱ)
- Who teacheth by the pen, (Ⅲ)
- who taught by the Pen, (Ⅳ)
- الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ (Ⅴ)
96. 5  
Taught man that which he knew not.
- AAallama alinsana ma lam yaAAlam (Ⅰ)
- Taught man what he did not know! (Ⅱ)
- Teacheth man that which he knew not. (Ⅲ)
- taught Man that he knew not. (Ⅳ)
- عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ (Ⅴ)
96. 6  
Day, but man doth transgress all bounds,
- Kalla inna alinsana layatgha (Ⅰ)
- Nay, verily, man is indeed rebellious (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but verily man is rebellious (Ⅲ)
- No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, (Ⅳ)
- كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 7  
In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.
- An raahu istaghna (Ⅰ)
- In that he thinks himself independent (or self-sufficient or rich)! (Ⅱ)
- That he thinketh himself independent! (Ⅲ)
- for he thinks himself self-sufficient. (Ⅳ)
- أَن رَّآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 8  
Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).
- Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa (Ⅰ)
- Verily, unto your Lord is the return! (Ⅱ)
- Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. (Ⅲ)
- Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. (Ⅳ)
- إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 9  
Seest thou one who forbids-
- Araayta allathee yanha (Ⅰ)
- Have you considered him who forbids? (Ⅱ)
- Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth (Ⅲ)
- What thinkest thou? He who forbids (Ⅳ)
- أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 10  
A votary when he (turns) to pray?
- AAabdan itha salla (Ⅰ)
- A servant when he prays? (Ⅱ)
- A slave when he prayeth ? (Ⅲ)
- a servant when he prays -- (Ⅳ)
- عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 11  
Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-
- Araayta in kana AAala alhuda (Ⅰ)
- Have you considered if he were in guidance (Ⅱ)
- Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) (Ⅲ)
- What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance (Ⅳ)
- أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 12  
Or enjoins Righteousness?
- Aw amara bialttaqwa (Ⅰ)
- Or bade piety? (Ⅱ)
- Or enjoineth piety ? (Ⅲ)
- or bade to godfearing -- (Ⅳ)
- أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 13  
Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?
- Araayta in kaththaba watawalla (Ⅰ)
- Have you considered if he denied the truth, and turned his back? (Ⅱ)
- Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward ? (Ⅲ)
- What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - (Ⅳ)
- أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 14  
Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?
- Alam yaAAlam bianna Allaha yara (Ⅰ)
- Does he not know that Allah can see? (Ⅱ)
- Is he then unaware that Allah seeth ? (Ⅲ)
- Did he not know that God sees? (Ⅳ)
- أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ (Ⅴ)
96. 15  
Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-
- Kalla lain lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati (Ⅰ)
- Nay, surely, if he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock! (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - (Ⅲ)
- No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, (Ⅳ)
- كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ (Ⅴ)
96. 16  
A lying, sinful forelock!
- Nasiyatin kathibatin khatiatin (Ⅰ)
- The lying sinful forelock! (Ⅱ)
- The lying, sinful forelock - (Ⅲ)
- a lying, sinful forelock. (Ⅳ)
- نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ (Ⅴ)
96. 17  
Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):
- FalyadAAu nadiyahu (Ⅰ)
- So let him call his council (or comrades): (Ⅱ)
- Then let him call upon his henchmen! (Ⅲ)
- So let him call on his concourse! (Ⅳ)
- فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ (Ⅴ)
96. 18  
We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!
- SanadAAu alzzabaniyata (Ⅰ)
- We will call the guards of Hell! (Ⅱ)
- We will call the guards of hell. (Ⅲ)
- We shall call on the guards of Hell. (Ⅳ)
- سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ (Ⅴ)
96. 19  
Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)!
- Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib (Ⅰ)
- Nay, obey him not, but adore and draw nigh (unto Allah)! (Ⅱ)
- Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). (Ⅲ)
- No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. (Ⅳ)
- كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب ۩ (Ⅴ)
