Il s'éleva de la part des gens du peuple et de leurs femmes de grandes plaintes contre leurs frères les Juifs.
- And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews. (Ⅱ) - Et factus est clamor populi et uxorum ejus magnus adversus fratres suos Judæos. (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃5 ותהי צעקת העם ונשיהם גדולה אל אחיהם היהודים (Ⅴ)

Les uns disaient: Nous, nos fils et nos filles, nous sommes nombreux; qu'on nous donne du blé, afin que nous mangions et que nous vivions.
- For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live. (Ⅱ) - Et erant qui dicerent : Filii nostri et filiæ nostræ multæ sunt nimis : accipiamus pro pretio eorum frumentum, et comedamus, et vivamus. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃5 ויש אשר אמרים בנינו ובנתינו אנחנו רבים ונקחה דגן ונאכלה ונחיה (Ⅴ)

D'autres disaient: Nous engageons nos champs, nos vignes, et nos maisons, pour avoir du blé pendant la famine.
- Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth. (Ⅱ) - Et erant qui dicerent : Agros nostros, et vineas, et domus nostras opponamus, et accipiamus frumentum in fame. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃5 ויש אשר אמרים שדתינו וכרמינו ובתינו אנחנו ערבים ונקחה דגן ברעב (Ⅴ)

D'autres disaient: Nous avons emprunté de l'argent sur nos champs et nos vignes pour le tribut du roi.
- There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards. (Ⅱ) - Et alii dicebant : Mutuo sumamus pecunias in tributa regis, demusque agros nostros et vineas : (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃5 ויש אשר אמרים לוינו כסף למדת המלך שדתינו וכרמינו (Ⅴ)

Et pourtant notre chair est comme la chair de nos frères, nos enfants sont comme leurs enfants; et voici, nous soumettons à la servitude nos fils et nos filles, et plusieurs de nos filles y sont déjà réduites; nous sommes sans force, et nos champs et nos vignes sont à d'autres.
- Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards. (Ⅱ) - et nunc sicut carnes fratrum nostrorum, sic carnes nostræ sunt : et sicut filii eorum, ita et filii nostri : ecce nos subjugamus filios nostros et filias nostras in servitutem, et de filiabus nostris sunt famulæ, nec habemus unde possint redimi : et agros nostros et vineas nostras alii possident. (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃5 ועתה כבשר אחינו בשרנו כבניהם בנינו והנה אנחנו כבשים את בנינו ואת בנתינו לעבדים ויש מבנתינו נכבשות ואין לאל ידנו ושדתינו וכרמינו לאחרים (Ⅴ)

Je fus très irrité lorsque j'entendis leurs plaintes et ces paroles-là.
- And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. (Ⅱ) - Et iratus sum nimis cum audissem clamorem eorum secundum verba hæc : (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃5 ויחר לי מאד כאשר שמעתי את זעקתם ואת הדברים האלה (Ⅴ)

Je résolus de faire des réprimandes aux grands et aux magistrats, et je leur dis: Quoi! vous prêtez à intérêt à vos frères! Et je rassemblai autour d'eux une grande foule,
- Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them. (Ⅱ) - cogitavitque cor meum mecum, et increpavi optimates et magistratus, et dixi eis : Usurasne singuli a fratribus vestris exigitis ? Et congregavi adversum eos concionem magnam, (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃5 וימלך לבי עלי ואריבה את החרים ואת הסגנים ואמרה להם משא[C] איש באחיו אתם *נשאים **נשים[Q][q][y] ואתן עליהם קהלה גדולה (Ⅴ)

et je leur dis: Nous avons racheté selon notre pouvoir nos frères les Juifs vendus aux nations; et vous vendriez vous-mêmes vos frères, et c'est à nous qu'ils seraient vendus! Ils se turent, ne trouvant rien à répondre.
- And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer. (Ⅱ) - et dixi eis : Nos, ut scitis, redemimus fratres nostros Judæos, qui venditi fuerant gentibus secundum possibilitatem nostram : et vos igitur vendetis fratres vestros, et redimemus eos ? Et siluerunt, nec invenerunt quid responderent. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃5 ואמרה להם אנחנו קנינו את אחינו היהודים הנמכרים לגוים כדי בנו וגם אתם תמכרו את אחיכם ונמכרו לנו ויחרישו ולא מצאו דבר ס (Ⅴ)

Puis je dis: Ce que vous faites n'est pas bien. Ne devriez-vous pas marcher dans la crainte de notre Dieu, pour n'être pas insultés par les nations nos ennemies?
- Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? (Ⅱ) - Dixique ad eos : Non est bona res quam facitis : quare non in timore Dei nostri ambulastis, ne exprobretur nobis a gentibus inimicis nostris ? (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃5 *ויאמר **ואומר[Q][k] לא טוב הדבר אשר אתם עשים הלוא ביראת אלהינו תלכו מחרפת הגוים אויבינו (Ⅴ)

Moi aussi, et mes frères et mes serviteurs, nous leur avons prêté de l'argent et du blé. Abandonnons ce qu'ils nous doivent!
- I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury. (Ⅱ) - Et ego, et fratres mei, et pueri mei commodavimus plurimis pecuniam et frumentum. Non repetamus in commune istud : æs alienum concedamus quod debetur nobis. (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃5 וגם אני אחי ונערי נשים בהם כסף ודגן נעזבה נא את המשא הזה (Ⅴ)

Rendez-leur donc aujourd'hui leurs champs, leurs vignes, leurs oliviers et leurs maisons, et le centième de l'argent, du blé, du moût et de l'huile que vous avez exigé d'eux comme intérêt.
- Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them. (Ⅱ) - Reddite eis hodie agros suos, et vineas suas, et oliveta sua, et domos suas : quin potius et centesimum pecuniæ, frumenti, vini et olei, quam exigere soletis ab eis, date pro illis. (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃5 השיבו נא להם כהיום שדתיהם כרמיהם זיתיהם ובתיהם ומאת הכסף והדגן התירוש והיצהר אשר אתם נשים בהם (Ⅴ)

Ils répondirent: Nous les rendrons, et nous ne leur demanderons rien, nous ferons ce que tu dis. Alors j'appelai les sacrificateurs, devant lesquels je les fis jurer de tenir parole.
- Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise. (Ⅱ) - Et dixerunt : Reddemus, et ab eis nihil quæremus : sicque faciemus ut loqueris. Et vocavi sacerdotes, et adjuravi eos ut facerent juxta quod dixeram. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃5 ויאמרו נשיב ומהם לא נבקש כן נעשה כאשר אתה אומר ואקרא את הכהנים ואשביעם לעשות כדבר הזה (Ⅴ)

Et je secouai mon manteau, en disant: Que Dieu secoue de la même manière hors de sa maison et de ses biens tout homme qui n'aura point tenu parole, et qu'ainsi cet homme soit secoué et laissé à vide! Toute l'assemblée dit: Amen! On célébra l'Éternel. Et le peuple tint parole.
- Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise. (Ⅱ) - Insuper excussi sinum meum, et dixi : Sic excutiat Deus omnem virum qui non compleverit verbum istud, de domo sua, et de laboribus suis : sic excutiatur, et vacuus fiat. Et dixit universa multitudo : Amen : et laudaverunt Deum. Fecit ergo populus sicut erat dictum.\ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃5 גם חצני נערתי ואמרה ככה ינער האלהים את כל האיש אשר לא יקים את הדבר הזה מביתו ומיגיעו וככה יהיה נעור ורק ויאמרו כל הקהל אמן ויהללו את יהוה ויעש העם כדבר הזה (Ⅴ)

Dès le jour où le roi m'établit leur gouverneur dans le pays de Juda, depuis la vingtième année jusqu'à la trente-deuxième année du roi Artaxerxès, pendant douze ans, ni moi ni mes frères n'avons vécu des revenus du gouverneur.
- Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor. (Ⅱ) - A die autem illa, qua præceperat rex mihi ut essem dux in terra Juda, ab anno vigesimo usque ad annum trigesimum secundum Artaxerxis regis per annos duodecim, ego et fratres mei annonas quæ ducibus debebantur non comedimus. (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃5 גם מיום אשר צוה אתי להיות פחם בארץ יהודה משנת עשרים ועד שנת שלשים ושתים לארתחשסתא המלך שנים שתים עשרה אני ואחי לחם הפחה לא אכלתי (Ⅴ)

Avant moi, les premiers gouverneurs accablaient le peuple, et recevaient de lui du pain et du vin, outre quarante sicles d'argent; leurs serviteurs mêmes opprimaient le peuple. Je n'ai point agi de la sorte, par crainte de Dieu.
- But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God. (Ⅱ) - Duces autem primi, qui fuerant ante me, gravaverunt populum, et acceperunt ab eis in pane, et vino, et pecunia, quotidie siclos quadraginta : sed et ministri eorum depresserunt populum. Ego autem non feci ita propter timorem Dei : (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃5 והפחות הראשנים אשר לפני הכבידו על העם ויקחו מהם בלחם ויין אחר כסף שקלים ארבעים גם נעריהם שלטו על העם ואני לא עשיתי כן מפני יראת אלהים (Ⅴ)

Bien plus, j'ai travaillé à la réparation de cette muraille, et nous n'avons acheté aucun champ, et mes serviteurs tous ensemble étaient à l'ouvrage.
- Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered thither unto the work. (Ⅱ) - quin potius in opere muri ædificavi, et agrum non emi, et omnes pueri mei congregati ad opus erant. (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃5 וגם במלאכת החומה הזאת החזקתי ושדה לא קנינו וכל נערי קבוצים שם על המלאכה (Ⅴ)

J'avais à ma table cent cinquante hommes, Juifs et magistrats, outre ceux qui venaient à nous des nations d'alentour.
- Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us. (Ⅱ) - Judæi quoque et magistratus centum quinquaginta viri, et qui veniebant ad nos de gentibus quæ in circuitu nostro sunt, in mensa mea erant. (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃5 והיהודים והסגנים מאה וחמשים איש והבאים אלינו מן הגוים אשר סביבתינו על שלחני (Ⅴ)

On m'apprêtait chaque jour un boeuf, six moutons choisis, et des oiseaux; et tous les dix jours on préparait en abondance tout le vin nécessaire. Malgré cela, je n'ai point réclamé les revenus du gouverneur, parce que les travaux étaient à la charge de ce peuple.
- Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people. (Ⅱ) - Parabatur autem mihi per dies singulos bos unus, arietes sex electi, exceptis volatilibus, et inter dies decem vina diversa, et alia multa tribuebam : insuper et annonas ducatus mei non quæsivi : valde enim attenuatus erat populus. (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃5 ואשר היה נעשה ליום אחד שור אחד צאן שש בררות וצפרים נעשו לי ובין עשרת ימים בכל יין להרבה ועם זה לחם הפחה לא בקשתי כי כבדה העבדה על העם הזה (Ⅴ)

Souviens-toi favorablement de moi, ô mon Dieu, à cause de tout ce que j'ai fait pour ce peuple!
- Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people. (Ⅱ) - Memento mei, Deus meus, in bonum, secundum omnia quæ feci populo huic. (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃5 זכרה לי אלהי לטובה כל אשר עשיתי על העם הזה פ (Ⅴ)
