Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
- Jette ton pain sur la face des eaux, car avec le temps tu le retrouveras; (Ⅱ) - ἀπόστειλον τὸν ἄρτον σου ἐπὶ πρόσωπον του̃ ὕδατος ὅτι ἐν πλήθει τω̃ν ἡμερω̃ν εὑρήσεις αὐτόν (Ⅲ) - Mitte panem tuum super transeuntes aquas,/ quia post tempora multa invenies illum./ (Ⅳ) - 1 ׃11 שלח לחמך על פני המים כי ברב הימים תמצאנו (Ⅴ)

Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
- donnes-en une part à sept et même à huit, car tu ne sais pas quel malheur peut arriver sur la terre. (Ⅱ) - δὸς μερίδα τοι̃ς ἑπτὰ καί γε τοι̃ς ὀκτώ ὅτι οὐ γινώσκεις τί ἔσται πονηρὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν (Ⅲ) - Da partem septem necnon et octo,/ quia ignoras quid futurum sit mali super terram./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃11 תן חלק לשבעה וגם לשמונה כי לא תדע מה יהיה רעה על הארץ (Ⅴ)

If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
- Quand les nuages sont pleins de pluie, ils la répandent sur la terre; et si un arbre tombe, au midi ou au nord, il reste à la place où il est tombé. (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν πληρωθω̃σιν τὰ νέφη ὑετου̃ ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν ἐκχέουσιν καὶ ἐὰν πέση̨ ξύλον ἐν τω̨̃ νότω̨ καὶ ἐὰν ἐν τω̨̃ βορρα̨̃ τόπω̨ οὑ̃ πεσει̃ται τὸ ξύλον ἐκει̃ ἔσται (Ⅲ) - Si repletæ fuerint nubes,/ imbrem super terram effundent./ Si ceciderit lignum ad austrum aut ad aquilonem,/ in quocumque loco ceciderit, ibi erit./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃11 אם ימלאו העבים גשם על הארץ יריקו ואם יפול עץ בדרום ואם בצפון מקום שיפול העץ שם יהוא (Ⅴ)

He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
- Celui qui observe le vent ne sèmera point, et celui qui regarde les nuages ne moissonnera point. (Ⅱ) - τηρω̃ν ἄνεμον οὐ σπερει̃ καὶ βλέπων ἐν ται̃ς νεφέλαις οὐ θερίσει (Ⅲ) - Qui observat ventum non seminat ;/ et qui considerat nubes numquam metet./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃11 שמר רוח לא יזרע וראה בעבים לא יקצור (Ⅴ)

As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
- Comme tu ne sais pas quel est le chemin du vent, ni comment se forment les os dans le ventre de la femme enceinte, tu ne connais pas non plus l'oeuvre de Dieu qui fait tout. (Ⅱ) - ἐν οἱ̃ς οὐκ ἔστιν γινώσκων τίς ἡ ὁδὸς του̃ πνεύματος ὡς ὀστα̃ ἐν γαστρὶ τη̃ς κυοφορούσης οὕτως οὐ γνώση̨ τὰ ποιήματα του̃ θεου̃ ὅσα ποιήσει σὺν τὰ πάντα (Ⅲ) - Quomodo ignoras quæ sit via spiritus,/ et qua ratione compingantur ossa in ventre prægnantis,/ sic nescis opera Dei,/ qui fabricator est omnium./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃11 כאשר אינך יודע מה דרך הרוח כעצמים בבטן המלאה ככה לא תדע את מעשה האלהים אשר יעשה את הכל (Ⅴ)

In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
- Dès le matin sème ta semence, et le soir ne laisse pas reposer ta main; car tu ne sais point ce qui réussira, ceci ou cela, ou si l'un et l'autre sont également bons. (Ⅱ) - ἐν πρωία̨ σπει̃ρον τὸ σπέρμα σου καὶ εἰς ἑσπέραν μὴ ἀφέτω ἡ χείρ σου ὅτι οὐ γινώσκεις ποι̃ον στοιχήσει ἢ του̃το ἢ του̃το καὶ ἐὰν τὰ δύο ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἀγαθά (Ⅲ) - Mane semina semen tuum,/ et vespere ne cesset manus tua :/ quia nescis quid magis oriatur, hoc aut illud ;/ et si utrumque simul, melius erit.]\ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃11 בבקר זרע את זרעך ולערב אל תנח ידך כי אינך יודע[U] אי זה יכשר הזה או זה ואם שניהם כאחד טובים (Ⅴ)

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
- La lumière est douce, et il est agréable aux yeux de voir le soleil. (Ⅱ) - καὶ γλυκὺ τὸ φω̃ς καὶ ἀγαθὸν τοι̃ς ὀφθαλμοι̃ς του̃ βλέπειν σὺν τὸν ἥλιον (Ⅲ) - Dulce lumen,/ et delectabile est oculis videre solem./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃11 ומתוק האור וטוב לעינים לראות את השמש (Ⅴ)

But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
- Si donc un homme vit beaucoup d'années, qu'il se réjouisse pendant toutes ces années, et qu'il pense aux jours de ténèbres qui seront nombreux; tout ce qui arrivera est vanité. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι καὶ ἐὰν ἔτη πολλὰ ζήσεται ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐν πα̃σιν αὐτοι̃ς εὐφρανθήσεται καὶ μνησθήσεται τὰς ἡμέρας του̃ σκότους ὅτι πολλαὶ ἔσονται πα̃ν τὸ ἐρχόμενον ματαιότης (Ⅲ) - Si annis multis vixerit homo,/ et in his omnibus lætatus fuerit,/ meminisse debet tenebrosi temporis, et dierum multorum,/ qui cum venerint, vanitatis arguentur præterita./ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃11 כי אם שנים הרבה יחיה האדם בכלם ישמח ויזכר את ימי החשך כי הרבה יהיו כל שבא הבל (Ⅴ)

Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
- Jeune homme, réjouis-toi dans ta jeunesse, livre ton coeur à la joie pendant les jours de ta jeunesse, marche dans les voies de ton coeur et selon les regards de tes yeux; mais sache que pour tout cela Dieu t'appellera en jugement. (Ⅱ) - εὐφραίνου νεανίσκε ἐν νεότητί σου καὶ ἀγαθυνάτω σε ἡ καρδία σου ἐν ἡμέραις νεότητός σου καὶ περιπάτει ἐν ὁδοι̃ς καρδίας σου καὶ ἐν ὁράσει ὀφθαλμω̃ν σου καὶ γνω̃θι ὅτι ἐπὶ πα̃σι τούτοις ἄξει σε ὁ θεὸς ἐν κρίσει (Ⅲ) - Lætare ergo, juvenis, in adolescentia tua,/ et in bono sit cor tuum in diebus juventutis tuæ :/ et ambula in viis cordis tui,/ et in intuitu oculorum tuorum,/ et scito quod pro omnibus his adducet te Deus in judicium./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃11 שמח בחור בילדותיך ויטיבך לבך בימי בחורותך והלך בדרכי לבך ובמראי עיניך ודע כי על כל אלה יביאך האלהים במשפט (Ⅴ)

Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
- Bannis de ton coeur le chagrin, et éloigne le mal de ton corps; car la jeunesse et l'aurore sont vanité. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀπόστησον θυμὸν ἀπὸ καρδίας σου καὶ παράγαγε πονηρίαν ἀπὸ σαρκός σου ὅτι ἡ νεότης καὶ ἡ ἄνοια ματαιότης (Ⅲ) - Aufer iram a corde tuo,/ et amove malitiam a carne tua :/ adolescentia enim et voluptas vana sunt.] (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃11 והסר כעס מלבך והעבר רעה מבשרך כי הילדות והשחרות הבל (Ⅴ)
