37. 0  
The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
37. 1  
I swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks.
- Waalssaffati saffan (Ⅰ)
- By those who set the ranks in battle order (Ⅱ)
- By the rangers ranging (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا (Ⅳ)
- By those who range themselves in ranks, (Ⅵ)
37. 2  
Then those who drive away (evil or the wicked) with reproof (or strength),
- Faalzzajirati zajran (Ⅰ)
- And those who drive away (the wicked) with reproof (Ⅱ)
- and the scarers scaring (Ⅲ)
- فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا (Ⅳ)
- And so are strong in repelling (evil), (Ⅵ)
37. 3  
Then those who recite (proclaim), with mindfulness,
- Faalttaliyati thikran (Ⅰ)
- And those who read (the Word) for a reminder, (Ⅱ)
- and the reciters of a Remembrance, (Ⅲ)
- فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا (Ⅳ)
- And thus proclaim the Message (of Allah)! (Ⅵ)
37. 4  
"Verily, verily your God is One:
- Inna ilahakum lawahidun (Ⅰ)
- Lo! thy Lord is surely One; (Ⅱ)
- surely your God is One, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ (Ⅳ)
- Verily, verily, your Allah is one!- (Ⅵ)
37. 5  
"The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and Lord of the Easts (i.e. all the sun´s rising point)."
- Rabbu alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma warabbu almashariqi (Ⅰ)
- Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the sun's risings. (Ⅱ)
- Lord of the heavens and the earth, and of what between them is Lord of the Easts. (Ⅲ)
- رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ (Ⅳ)
- Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun! (Ⅵ)
37. 6  
Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars,
- Inna zayyanna alssamaa alddunya bizeenatin alkawakibi (Ⅰ)
- Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets; (Ⅱ)
- We have adorned the lower heaven with the adornment of the stars (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ (Ⅳ)
- We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,- (Ⅵ)
37. 7  
And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Satan.
- Wahifthan min kulli shaytanin maridin (Ⅰ)
- With security from every froward devil. (Ⅱ)
- and to preserve against every rebel Satan; (Ⅲ)
- وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَّارِدٍ (Ⅳ)
- (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits, (Ⅵ)
37. 8  
They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side,
- La yassammaAAoona ila almalai alaAAla wayuqthafoona min kulli janibin (Ⅰ)
- They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side, (Ⅱ)
- they listen not to the High Council, for they are pelted from every side, (Ⅲ)
- لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ (Ⅳ)
- (So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side, (Ⅵ)
37. 9  
Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement,
- Duhooran walahum AAathabun wasibun (Ⅰ)
- Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment; (Ⅱ)
- rejected, and theirs is an everlasting chastisement, (Ⅲ)
- دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ (Ⅳ)
- Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty, (Ⅵ)
37. 10  
Except him who snatches a fragment by stealth, then there follows him a brightly shining flame.
- Illa man khatifa alkhatfata faatbaAAahu shihabun thaqibun (Ⅰ)
- Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame. (Ⅱ)
- except such as snatches a fragment, and he is pursued by a piercing flame. (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ (Ⅳ)
- Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness. (Ⅵ)
37. 11  
Then ask them whether they are stronger in creation or those (others) whom We have created. Surely We created them of plastic (malleable) clay.
- Faistaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqna inna khalaqnahum min teenin lazibin (Ⅰ)
- Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created ? Lo! We created them of plastic clay. (Ⅱ)
- So ask them for a pronouncement -- Are they stronger in constitution, or those We created? We created them of clinging clay. (Ⅲ)
- فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَا ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍ (Ⅳ)
- Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay! (Ⅵ)
37. 12  
Nay! You wonder while they mock,
- Bal AAajibta wayaskharoona (Ⅰ)
- Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock (Ⅱ)
- Nay, thou marvellest; and they scoff (Ⅲ)
- بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule, (Ⅵ)
37. 13  
And when they are reminded, they mind (heed) not,
- Waitha thukkiroo la yathkuroona (Ⅰ)
- And heed not when they are reminded, (Ⅱ)
- and, when reminded, do not remember (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,- (Ⅵ)
37. 14  
And when they see a sign they incite one another to scoff,
- Waitha raaw ayatan yastaskhiroona (Ⅰ)
- And seek to scoff when they behold a portent. (Ⅱ)
- and, when they see a sign, would scoff; (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery, (Ⅵ)
37. 15  
And they say, "This is nothing but clear magic.
- Waqaloo in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun (Ⅰ)
- And they say: Lo! this is mere magic; (Ⅱ)
- and they say, ´This is nothing but manifest sorcery. (Ⅲ)
- وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ (Ⅳ)
- And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery! (Ⅵ)
37. 16  
"What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then certainly be raised,
- Aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona (Ⅰ)
- When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised (again) ? (Ⅱ)
- What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? (Ⅲ)
- أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again) (Ⅵ)
37. 17  
"Or our fathers of past times (ancestors)?"
- Awaabaona alawwaloona (Ⅰ)
- And our forefathers ? (Ⅱ)
- What, and our fathers, the ancients?´ (Ⅲ)
- أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "And also our fathers of old?" (Ⅵ)
37. 18  
Say, "Aye! And you shall be abject (humiliated)."
- Qul naAAam waantum dakhiroona (Ⅰ)
- Say (O Muhammad): Ye, in truth; and ye will be brought low. (Ⅱ)
- Say: ´Yes, and in all lowliness.´ (Ⅲ)
- قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)." (Ⅵ)
37. 19  
So it shall only be a single Shout, when lo! They shall see.
- Fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun faitha hum yanthuroona (Ⅰ)
- There is but one Shout, and lo! they behold, (Ⅱ)
- For it is only a single scaring, then behold, they are watching (Ⅲ)
- فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see! (Ⅵ)
37. 20  
And they shall say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment."
- Waqaloo ya waylana hatha yawmu alddeeni (Ⅰ)
- And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment. (Ⅱ)
- and they say, ´Woe, alas for us! This is the Day of Doom.´ (Ⅲ)
- وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ (Ⅳ)
- They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!" (Ⅵ)
37. 21  
(A voice will say,) "This is the Day of the Judgment which you called a lie.
- Hatha yawmu alfasli allathee kuntum bihi tukaththiboona (Ⅰ)
- This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny. (Ⅱ)
- ´This is the Day of Decision, even that you cried lies to. (Ⅲ)
- هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- (A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!" (Ⅵ)
37. 22  
"Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship
- Ohshuroo allatheena thalamoo waazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoona (Ⅰ)
- (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship (Ⅱ)
- Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, (Ⅲ)
- ۞ احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- (Ⅵ)
37. 23  
"Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell.
- Min dooni Allahi faihdoohum ila sirati aljaheemi (Ⅰ)
- Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; (Ⅱ)
- apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! (Ⅲ)
- مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! (Ⅵ)
37. 24  
"And stop them, for they must be questioned:
- Waqifoohum innahum masooloona (Ⅰ)
- And stop them, for they must be questioned. (Ⅱ)
- And halt them, to be questioned: (Ⅲ)
- وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْئُولُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "But stop them, for they must be asked: (Ⅵ)
37. 25  
"What ails you that you do not help each other?"
- Ma lakum la tanasaroona (Ⅰ)
- What aileth you that ye help not one another ? (Ⅱ)
- "Why help you not one another?" (Ⅲ)
- مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "´What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?´" (Ⅵ)
37. 26  
Nay! On that day they shall be submissive.
- Bal humu alyawma mustaslimoona (Ⅰ)
- Nay, but this day they make full submission. (Ⅱ)
- No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission (Ⅲ)
- بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); (Ⅵ)
37. 27  
And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other.
- Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona (Ⅰ)
- And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. (Ⅱ)
- and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. (Ⅲ)
- وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And they will turn to one another, and question one another. (Ⅵ)
37. 28  
They shall say, "Surely you used to come to us from the right hand side."
- Qaloo innakum kuntum tatoonana AAani alyameeni (Ⅰ)
- They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). (Ⅱ)
- These say, ´Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.´ (Ⅲ)
- قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ (Ⅳ)
- They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" (Ⅵ)
37. 29  
They shall say, "Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers;
- Qaloo bal lam takoonoo mumineena (Ⅰ)
- They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. (Ⅱ)
- Those say, ´No; on the contrary, you were not believers; (Ⅲ)
- قَالُوا بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ (Ⅳ)
- They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! (Ⅵ)
37. 30  
"And we had no authority over you, but you were a wayward people;
- Wama kana lana AAalaykum min sultanin bal kuntum qawman tagheena (Ⅰ)
- We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. (Ⅱ)
- we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَانٍ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! (Ⅵ)
37. 31  
"So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: we shall surely taste (punishment);
- Fahaqqa AAalayna qawlu rabbina inna lathaiqoona (Ⅰ)
- Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). (Ⅱ)
- So our Lord´s Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. (Ⅲ)
- فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا ۖ إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). (Ⅵ)
37. 32  
"We led you astray, for we were ourselves erring."
- Faaghwaynakum inna kunna ghaweena (Ⅰ)
- Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. (Ⅱ)
- Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.´ (Ⅲ)
- فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." (Ⅵ)
37. 33  
So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another.
- Fainnahum yawmaithin fee alAAathabi mushtarikoona (Ⅰ)
- Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. (Ⅱ)
- So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. (Ⅲ)
- فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. (Ⅵ)
37. 34  
Surely thus do We deal with the guilty.
- Inna kathalika nafAAalu bialmujrimeena (Ⅰ)
- Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. (Ⅱ)
- Even so We do with the sinners; (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. (Ⅵ)
37. 35  
Surely they used to behave arrogantly when it was said to them, "There is no God but Allah."
- Innahum kanoo itha qeela lahum la ilaha illa Allahu yastakbiroona (Ⅰ)
- For when it was said unto them, There is no God save Allah, they were scornful (Ⅱ)
- for when it was said to them, ´There is no god but God,´ they were ever waxing proud, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, (Ⅵ)
37. 36  
And said, "What! Shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet?"
- Wayaqooloona ainna latarikoo alihatina lishaAAirin majnoonin (Ⅰ)
- And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet ? (Ⅱ)
- saying, ´What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?´ (Ⅲ)
- وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍ (Ⅳ)
- And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" (Ⅵ)
37. 37  
Nay, he has come with the truth and verified the (messages of) the Messengers sent before him.
- Bal jaa bialhaqqi wasaddaqa almursaleena (Ⅰ)
- Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). (Ⅱ)
- ´No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. (Ⅲ)
- بَلْ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). (Ⅵ)
37. 38  
Most surely you will taste the painful punishment.
- Innakum lathaiqoo alAAathabi alaleemi (Ⅰ)
- Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - (Ⅱ)
- Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- (Ⅵ)
37. 39  
And you shall not be punished except for what you did.
- Wama tujzawna illa ma kuntum taAAmaloona (Ⅰ)
- Ye are requited naught save what ye did - (Ⅱ)
- and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.´ (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- (Ⅵ)
37. 40  
Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones.
- Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena (Ⅰ)
- Save single-minded slaves of Allah; (Ⅱ)
- Except for God´s sincere servants; (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ (Ⅳ)
- But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- (Ⅵ)
37. 41  
For them is a determined sustenance,
- Olaika lahum rizqun maAAloomun (Ⅰ)
- For them there is a known provision, (Ⅱ)
- for them awaits a known provision, (Ⅲ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ (Ⅳ)
- For them is a Sustenance determined, (Ⅵ)
37. 42  
Fruits, and they shall be highly honoured,
- Fawakihu wahum mukramoona (Ⅰ)
- Fruits. And they will be honoured (Ⅱ)
- fruits -- and they high-honoured (Ⅲ)
- فَوَاكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, (Ⅵ)
37. 43  
In Gardens of Felicity,
- Fee jannati alnnaAAeemi (Ⅰ)
- In the Gardens of delight, (Ⅱ)
- in the Gardens of Bliss (Ⅲ)
- فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- In Gardens of Felicity, (Ⅵ)
37. 44  
On Thrones (of Dignity), facing each other.
- AAala sururin mutaqabileena (Ⅰ)
- On couches facing one another; (Ⅱ)
- upon couches, set face to face, (Ⅲ)
- عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): (Ⅵ)
37. 45  
A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of clear springs,
- Yutafu AAalayhim bikasin min maAAeenin (Ⅰ)
- A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, (Ⅱ)
- a cup from a spring being passed round to them, (Ⅲ)
- يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ (Ⅳ)
- Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, (Ⅵ)
37. 46  
Crystal-white, delicious to those who drink.
- Baydaa laththatin lilshsharibeena (Ⅰ)
- White, delicious to the drinkers, (Ⅱ)
- white, a delight to the drinkers, (Ⅲ)
- بَيْضَاءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّارِبِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), (Ⅵ)
37. 47  
There shall be no distress in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith.
- La feeha ghawlun wala hum AAanha yunzafoona (Ⅰ)
- Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. (Ⅱ)
- wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; (Ⅲ)
- لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. (Ⅵ)
37. 48  
And with them shall be those of modest gaze with large beautiful eyes;
- WaAAindahum qasiratu alttarfi AAeenun (Ⅰ)
- And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, (Ⅱ)
- and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances (Ⅲ)
- وَعِندَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ عِينٌ (Ⅳ)
- And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). (Ⅵ)
37. 49  
As if they were delicate eggs carefully protected.
- Kaannahunna baydun maknoonun (Ⅰ)
- (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). (Ⅱ)
