- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ) - In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ) - Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)

By the rangers ranging
- Waalssaffati saffan (Ⅰ) - I swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks. (Ⅱ) - By those who set the ranks in battle order (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا (Ⅳ) - By those who range themselves in ranks, (Ⅵ)

|
37.

and the scarers scaring
- Faalzzajirati zajran (Ⅰ) - Then those who drive away (evil or the wicked) with reproof (or strength), (Ⅱ) - And those who drive away (the wicked) with reproof (Ⅲ) - فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا (Ⅳ) - And so are strong in repelling (evil), (Ⅵ)

and the reciters of a Remembrance,
- Faalttaliyati thikran (Ⅰ) - Then those who recite (proclaim), with mindfulness, (Ⅱ) - And those who read (the Word) for a reminder, (Ⅲ) - فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا (Ⅳ) - And thus proclaim the Message (of Allah)! (Ⅵ)

37.

surely your God is One,
- Inna ilahakum lawahidun (Ⅰ) - "Verily, verily your God is One: (Ⅱ) - Lo! thy Lord is surely One; (Ⅲ) - إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ (Ⅳ) - Verily, verily, your Allah is one!- (Ⅵ)

|
37.

Lord of the heavens and the earth, and of what between them is Lord of the Easts.
- Rabbu alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma warabbu almashariqi (Ⅰ) - "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and Lord of the Easts (i.e. all the sun´s rising point)." (Ⅱ) - Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the sun's risings. (Ⅲ) - رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ (Ⅳ) - Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun! (Ⅵ)

|
37.

We have adorned the lower heaven with the adornment of the stars
- Inna zayyanna alssamaa alddunya bizeenatin alkawakibi (Ⅰ) - Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars, (Ⅱ) - Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets; (Ⅲ) - إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ (Ⅳ) - We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,- (Ⅵ)

|
37.

and to preserve against every rebel Satan;
- Wahifthan min kulli shaytanin maridin (Ⅰ) - And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Satan. (Ⅱ) - With security from every froward devil. (Ⅲ) - وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَّارِدٍ (Ⅳ) - (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits, (Ⅵ)

|
37.

they listen not to the High Council, for they are pelted from every side,
- La yassammaAAoona ila almalai alaAAla wayuqthafoona min kulli janibin (Ⅰ) - They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side, (Ⅱ) - They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side, (Ⅲ) - لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ (Ⅳ) - (So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side, (Ⅵ)
|

|
|
|
37.

rejected, and theirs is an everlasting chastisement,
- Duhooran walahum AAathabun wasibun (Ⅰ) - Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement, (Ⅱ) - Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment; (Ⅲ) - دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ (Ⅳ) - Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty, (Ⅵ)

|
37.

except such as snatches a fragment, and he is pursued by a piercing flame.
- Illa man khatifa alkhatfata faatbaAAahu shihabun thaqibun (Ⅰ) - Except him who snatches a fragment by stealth, then there follows him a brightly shining flame. (Ⅱ) - Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame. (Ⅲ) - إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ (Ⅳ) - Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness. (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.

So ask them for a pronouncement -- Are they stronger in constitution, or those We created? We created them of clinging clay.
- Faistaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqna inna khalaqnahum min teenin lazibin (Ⅰ) - Then ask them whether they are stronger in creation or those (others) whom We have created. Surely We created them of plastic (malleable) clay. (Ⅱ) - Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created ? Lo! We created them of plastic clay. (Ⅲ) - فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَا ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍ (Ⅳ) - Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay! (Ⅵ)

37.

Nay, thou marvellest; and they scoff
- Bal AAajibta wayaskharoona (Ⅰ) - Nay! You wonder while they mock, (Ⅱ) - Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock (Ⅲ) - بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ (Ⅳ) - Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule, (Ⅵ)

|
37.

and, when reminded, do not remember
- Waitha thukkiroo la yathkuroona (Ⅰ) - And when they are reminded, they mind (heed) not, (Ⅱ) - And heed not when they are reminded, (Ⅲ) - وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ (Ⅳ) - And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,- (Ⅵ)

|
37.

and, when they see a sign, would scoff;
- Waitha raaw ayatan yastaskhiroona (Ⅰ) - And when they see a sign they incite one another to scoff, (Ⅱ) - And seek to scoff when they behold a portent. (Ⅲ) - وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ (Ⅳ) - And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery, (Ⅵ)

and they say, ´This is nothing but manifest sorcery.
- Waqaloo in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun (Ⅰ) - And they say, "This is nothing but clear magic. (Ⅱ) - And they say: Lo! this is mere magic; (Ⅲ) - وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ (Ⅳ) - And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery! (Ⅵ)

|
37.

What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up?
- Aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona (Ⅰ) - "What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then certainly be raised, (Ⅱ) - When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised (again) ? (Ⅲ) - أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ (Ⅳ) - "What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again) (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.

What, and our fathers, the ancients?´
- Awaabaona alawwaloona (Ⅰ) - "Or our fathers of past times (ancestors)?" (Ⅱ) - And our forefathers ? (Ⅲ) - أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ (Ⅳ) - "And also our fathers of old?" (Ⅵ)

37.

Say: ´Yes, and in all lowliness.´
- Qul naAAam waantum dakhiroona (Ⅰ) - Say, "Aye! And you shall be abject (humiliated)." (Ⅱ) - Say (O Muhammad): Ye, in truth; and ye will be brought low. (Ⅲ) - قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ (Ⅳ) - Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)." (Ⅵ)

|
37.

For it is only a single scaring, then behold, they are watching
- Fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun faitha hum yanthuroona (Ⅰ) - So it shall only be a single Shout, when lo! They shall see. (Ⅱ) - There is but one Shout, and lo! they behold, (Ⅲ) - فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ (Ⅳ) - Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see! (Ⅵ)

and they say, ´Woe, alas for us! This is the Day of Doom.´
- Waqaloo ya waylana hatha yawmu alddeeni (Ⅰ) - And they shall say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment." (Ⅱ) - And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment. (Ⅲ) - وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ (Ⅳ) - They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!" (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.

´This is the Day of Decision, even that you cried lies to.
- Hatha yawmu alfasli allathee kuntum bihi tukaththiboona (Ⅰ) - (A voice will say,) "This is the Day of the Judgment which you called a lie. (Ⅱ) - This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny. (Ⅲ) - هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (Ⅳ) - (A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!" (Ⅵ)

|
|
|
37.

Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving,
- Ohshuroo allatheena thalamoo waazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoona (Ⅰ) - "Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship (Ⅱ) - (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship (Ⅲ) - ۞ احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ (Ⅳ) - "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- (Ⅵ)
|

|
|
|
37.

apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell!
- Min dooni Allahi faihdoohum ila sirati aljaheemi (Ⅰ) - "Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. (Ⅱ) - Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; (Ⅲ) - مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ (Ⅳ) - "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.

And halt them, to be questioned:
- Waqifoohum innahum masooloona (Ⅰ) - "And stop them, for they must be questioned: (Ⅱ) - And stop them, for they must be questioned. (Ⅲ) - وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْئُولُونَ (Ⅳ) - "But stop them, for they must be asked: (Ⅵ)

"Why help you not one another?"
- Ma lakum la tanasaroona (Ⅰ) - "What ails you that you do not help each other?" (Ⅱ) - What aileth you that ye help not one another ? (Ⅲ) - مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ (Ⅳ) - "´What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?´" (Ⅵ)
|

|
37.
26
No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission
- Bal humu alyawma mustaslimoona (Ⅰ) - Nay! On that day they shall be submissive. (Ⅱ) - Nay, but this day they make full submission. (Ⅲ) - بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ (Ⅳ) - Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); (Ⅵ)
|

|
|
37.

and advance one upon another, asking each other questions.
- Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona (Ⅰ) - And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. (Ⅱ) - And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. (Ⅲ) - وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ (Ⅳ) - And they will turn to one another, and question one another. (Ⅵ)

37.

These say, ´Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.´
- Qaloo innakum kuntum tatoonana AAani alyameeni (Ⅰ) - They shall say, "Surely you used to come to us from the right hand side." (Ⅱ) - They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). (Ⅲ) - قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ (Ⅳ) - They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" (Ⅵ)

37.

Those say, ´No; on the contrary, you were not believers;
- Qaloo bal lam takoonoo mumineena (Ⅰ) - They shall say, "Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; (Ⅱ) - They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. (Ⅲ) - قَالُوا بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ (Ⅳ) - They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! (Ⅵ)

37.

we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people.
- Wama kana lana AAalaykum min sultanin bal kuntum qawman tagheena (Ⅰ) - "And we had no authority over you, but you were a wayward people; (Ⅱ) - We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. (Ⅲ) - وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَانٍ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ (Ⅳ) - "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! (Ⅵ)

|
37.

So our Lord´s Word is realised against us; we are tasting it.
- Fahaqqa AAalayna qawlu rabbina inna lathaiqoona (Ⅰ) - "So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: we shall surely taste (punishment); (Ⅱ) - Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). (Ⅲ) - فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا ۖ إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ (Ⅳ) - "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.
32
Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.´
- Faaghwaynakum inna kunna ghaweena (Ⅰ) - "We led you astray, for we were ourselves erring." (Ⅱ) - Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. (Ⅲ) - فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ (Ⅳ) - "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." (Ⅵ)

37.

So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement.
- Fainnahum yawmaithin fee alAAathabi mushtarikoona (Ⅰ) - So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. (Ⅱ) - Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. (Ⅲ) - فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ (Ⅳ) - Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. (Ⅵ)

37.
34
Even so We do with the sinners;
- Inna kathalika nafAAalu bialmujrimeena (Ⅰ) - Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. (Ⅱ) - Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. (Ⅲ) - إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ (Ⅳ) - Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. (Ⅵ)

37.

for when it was said to them, ´There is no god but God,´ they were ever waxing proud,
- Innahum kanoo itha qeela lahum la ilaha illa Allahu yastakbiroona (Ⅰ) - Surely they used to behave arrogantly when it was said to them, "There is no God but Allah." (Ⅱ) - For when it was said unto them, There is no God save Allah, they were scornful (Ⅲ) - إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ (Ⅳ) - For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, (Ⅵ)

37.

saying, ´What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?´
- Wayaqooloona ainna latarikoo alihatina lishaAAirin majnoonin (Ⅰ) - And said, "What! Shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet?" (Ⅱ) - And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet ? (Ⅲ) - وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍ (Ⅳ) - And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" (Ⅵ)

37.
37
´No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys.
- Bal jaa bialhaqqi wasaddaqa almursaleena (Ⅰ) - Nay, he has come with the truth and verified the (messages of) the Messengers sent before him. (Ⅱ) - Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). (Ⅲ) - بَلْ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ (Ⅳ) - Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). (Ⅵ)

37.
38
Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement,
- Innakum lathaiqoo alAAathabi alaleemi (Ⅰ) - Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. (Ⅱ) - Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - (Ⅲ) - إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ (Ⅳ) - Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- (Ⅵ)

|
|
|
37.

and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.´
- Wama tujzawna illa ma kuntum taAAmaloona (Ⅰ) - And you shall not be punished except for what you did. (Ⅱ) - Ye are requited naught save what ye did - (Ⅲ) - وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ (Ⅳ) - But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- (Ⅵ)

|
|
|
37.
40
Except for God´s sincere servants;
- Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena (Ⅰ) - Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. (Ⅱ) - Save single-minded slaves of Allah; (Ⅲ) - إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ (Ⅳ) - But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- (Ⅵ)

|
37.

for them awaits a known provision,
- Olaika lahum rizqun maAAloomun (Ⅰ) - For them is a determined sustenance, (Ⅱ) - For them there is a known provision, (Ⅲ) - أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ (Ⅳ) - For them is a Sustenance determined, (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.

fruits -- and they high-honoured
- Fawakihu wahum mukramoona (Ⅰ) - Fruits, and they shall be highly honoured, (Ⅱ) - Fruits. And they will be honoured (Ⅲ) - فَوَاكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ (Ⅳ) - Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, (Ⅵ)

in the Gardens of Bliss
- Fee jannati alnnaAAeemi (Ⅰ) - In Gardens of Felicity, (Ⅱ) - In the Gardens of delight, (Ⅲ) - فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ (Ⅳ) - In Gardens of Felicity, (Ⅵ)

upon couches, set face to face,
- AAala sururin mutaqabileena (Ⅰ) - On Thrones (of Dignity), facing each other. (Ⅱ) - On couches facing one another; (Ⅲ) - عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ (Ⅳ) - Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): (Ⅵ)

a cup from a spring being passed round to them,
- Yutafu AAalayhim bikasin min maAAeenin (Ⅰ) - A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of clear springs, (Ⅱ) - A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, (Ⅲ) - يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ (Ⅳ) - Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.
46
white, a delight to the drinkers,
- Baydaa laththatin lilshsharibeena (Ⅰ) - Crystal-white, delicious to those who drink. (Ⅱ) - White, delicious to the drinkers, (Ⅲ) - بَيْضَاءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّارِبِينَ (Ⅳ) - Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), (Ⅵ)

|
|
37.

wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication;
- La feeha ghawlun wala hum AAanha yunzafoona (Ⅰ) - There shall be no distress in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. (Ⅱ) - Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. (Ⅲ) - لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ (Ⅳ) - Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. (Ⅵ)

and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances
- WaAAindahum qasiratu alttarfi AAeenun (Ⅰ) - And with them shall be those of modest gaze with large beautiful eyes; (Ⅱ) - And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, (Ⅲ) - وَعِندَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ عِينٌ (Ⅳ) - And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). (Ⅵ)

- Kaannahunna baydun maknoonun (Ⅰ) - As if they were delicate eggs carefully protected. (Ⅱ) - (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). (Ⅲ) - كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ (Ⅳ) - As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. (Ⅵ)
