37. 50  
And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.
- Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona (Ⅰ)
- Then shall some of them turn to others, questioning each other. (Ⅱ)
- They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Then they will turn to one another and question one another. (Ⅵ)
37. 51  
A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade
- Qala qailun minhum innee kana lee qareenun (Ⅰ)
- A speaker from among them shall say, "Surely I had a comrade on earth, (Ⅱ)
- One of them says, ´I had a comrade (Ⅲ)
- قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٌ (Ⅳ)
- One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), (Ⅵ)
37. 52  
Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words) ?
- Yaqoolu ainnaka lamina almusaddiqeena (Ⅰ)
- "Who said, ´What! are you indeed of those who bear witness to (the truth)? (Ⅱ)
- who would say, "Are you a confirmer? (Ⅲ)
- يَقُولُ أَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُصَدِّقِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "Who used to say, ´what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? (Ⅵ)
37. 53  
Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book ?
- Aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamadeenoona (Ⅰ)
- "´What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, indeed, be brought to judgment?´" (Ⅱ)
- What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" (Ⅲ)
- أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "´When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?´" (Ⅵ)
37. 54  
He saith: Will ye look ?
- Qala hal antum muttaliAAoona (Ⅰ)
- (A voice) Will say, "Will you look down?" (Ⅱ)
- He says, ´Are you looking down?´ (Ⅲ)
- قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ (Ⅳ)
- (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" (Ⅵ)
37. 55  
Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell.
- FaittalaAAa faraahu fee sawai aljaheemi (Ⅰ)
- Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. (Ⅱ)
- Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. (Ⅲ)
- فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَآهُ فِي سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. (Ⅵ)
37. 56  
He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin,
- Qala taAllahi in kidta laturdeeni (Ⅰ)
- He shall say (to the sceptic), "By Allah! You had almost caused me to perish; (Ⅱ)
- He says, ´By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; (Ⅲ)
- قَالَ تَاللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ (Ⅳ)
- He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! (Ⅵ)
37. 57  
And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom).
- Walawla niAAmatu rabbee lakuntu mina almuhdareena (Ⅰ)
- "And had it not been for the grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought there. (Ⅱ)
- But for my Lord´s blessing, I were one of the arraigned. (Ⅲ)
- وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! (Ⅵ)
37. 58  
Are we then not to die
- Afama nahnu bimayyiteena (Ⅰ)
- "Is it then true that we shall not die, (Ⅱ)
- What, do we then not die (Ⅲ)
- أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, (Ⅵ)
37. 59  
Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished ?
- Illa mawtatana aloola wama nahnu bimuAAaththabeena (Ⅰ)
- "Except our previous death? And that we shall not be chastised?" (Ⅱ)
- except for our first death, and are we not chastised? (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" (Ⅵ)
37. 60  
Lo! this is the supreme triumph.
- Inna hatha lahuwa alfawzu alAAatheemu (Ⅰ)
- Most surely this is the supreme achievement. (Ⅱ)
- This is indeed the mighty triumph, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ (Ⅳ)
- Verily this is the supreme achievement! (Ⅵ)
37. 61  
For the like of this, then, let the workers work.
- Limithli hatha falyaAAmali alAAamiloona (Ⅰ)
- For the like of this then let the workers work. (Ⅱ)
- for the like of this let the workers work.´ (Ⅲ)
- لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. (Ⅵ)
37. 62  
Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum ?
- Athalika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratu alzzaqqoomi (Ⅰ)
- Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (having bitter fruit)? (Ⅱ)
- Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? (Ⅲ)
- أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ (Ⅳ)
- Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? (Ⅵ)
37. 63  
Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers.
- Inna jaAAalnaha fitnatan lilththalimeena (Ⅰ)
- Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. (Ⅱ)
- We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّالِمِينَ (Ⅳ)
- For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. (Ⅵ)
37. 64  
Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell.
- Innaha shajaratun takhruju fee asli aljaheemi (Ⅰ)
- Surely it is a tree that grows in the bottom of hell; (Ⅱ)
- It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: (Ⅵ)
37. 65  
Its crop is as it were the heads of devils
- TalAAuha kaannahu ruoosu alshshayateeni (Ⅰ)
- Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents (or devils). (Ⅱ)
- its spathes are as the heads of Satans, (Ⅲ)
- طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُءُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ (Ⅳ)
- The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: (Ⅵ)
37. 66  
And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith.
- Fainnahum laakiloona minha famalioona minha albutoona (Ⅰ)
- Then verily, they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. (Ⅱ)
- and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, (Ⅲ)
- فَإِنَّهُمْ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. (Ⅵ)
37. 67  
And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water
- Thumma inna lahum AAalayha lashawban min hameemin (Ⅰ)
- Then afterwards they shall drink a mixture prepared in boiling water. (Ⅱ)
- then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. (Ⅵ)
37. 68  
And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell.
- Thumma inna marjiAAahum laila aljaheemi (Ⅰ)
- Then most surely their return shall be to hell. (Ⅱ)
- then their return is unto Hell. (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى الْجَحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. (Ⅵ)
37. 69  
They indeed found their fathers astray,
- Innahum alfaw abaahum dalleena (Ⅰ)
- Certainly, they found their fathers going astray, (Ⅱ)
- They found their fathers erring, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا آبَاءَهُمْ ضَالِّينَ (Ⅳ)
- Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; (Ⅵ)
37. 70  
But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps.
- Fahum AAala atharihim yuhraAAoona (Ⅰ)
- So in their footsteps they hasten on. (Ⅱ)
- and they run in their footsteps. (Ⅲ)
- فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ (Ⅳ)
- So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! (Ⅵ)
37. 71  
And verily most of the men of old went astray before them,
- Walaqad dalla qablahum aktharu alawwaleena (Ⅰ)
- And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, (Ⅱ)
- Before them erred most of the ancients, (Ⅲ)
- وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ (Ⅳ)
- And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- (Ⅵ)
37. 72  
And verily We sent among them warners.
- Walaqad arsalna feehim munthireena (Ⅰ)
- And certainly We sent among them Warners. (Ⅱ)
- and We sent among them warners; (Ⅲ)
- وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ (Ⅳ)
- But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- (Ⅵ)
37. 73  
Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned,
- Faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu almunthareena (Ⅰ)
- Then see what was the end of those who were warned, (Ⅱ)
- and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, (Ⅲ)
- فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنذَرِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- (Ⅵ)
37. 74  
Save single-minded slaves of Allah.
- Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena (Ⅰ)
- Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. (Ⅱ)
- except for God´s sincere servants. (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. (Ⅵ)
37. 75  
And Noah verily prayed unto Us, and gracious was the Hearer of his prayer
- Walaqad nadana noohun falaniAAma almujeeboona (Ⅰ)
- And Noah did certainly call upon Us, and the most gracious of Hearer of prayer are We. (Ⅱ)
- Noah called to Us; and how excellent were the Answerers! (Ⅲ)
- وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- (In the days of old), Noah cried to Us, and We are the best to hear prayer. (Ⅵ)
37. 76  
And We saved him and his household from the great distress,
- Wanajjaynahu waahlahu mina alkarbi alAAatheemi (Ⅰ)
- And We delivered him and his followers from the mighty distress. (Ⅱ)
- And We delivered him and his people from the great distress, (Ⅲ)
- وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- And We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity, (Ⅵ)
37. 77  
And made his seed the survivors,
- WajaAAalna thurriyyatahu humu albaqeena (Ⅰ)
- And We made his offspring the survivors. (Ⅱ)
- and We made his seed the survivors, (Ⅲ)
- وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ (Ⅳ)
- And made his progeny to endure (on this earth); (Ⅵ)
37. 78  
And left for him among the later folk (the salutation):
- Watarakna AAalayhi fee alakhireena (Ⅰ)
- And We perpetuated to him praise among the later generations, (Ⅱ)
- and left for him among the later folk (Ⅲ)
- وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ (Ⅳ)
- And We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times: (Ⅵ)
37. 79  
Peace be unto Noah among the peoples!
- Salamun AAala noohin fee alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- (This blessing) "Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations". (Ⅱ)
- ´Peace be upon Noah among all beings!´ (Ⅲ)
- سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!" (Ⅵ)
37. 80  
Lo! thus do We reward the good.
- Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena (Ⅰ)
- Thus do We surely reward the doers of good. (Ⅱ)
- Even so We recompense the good-doers; (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Thus indeed do we reward those who do right. (Ⅵ)
37. 81  
Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves.
- Innahu min AAibadina almumineena (Ⅰ)
- Surely he was of Our believing servants. (Ⅱ)
- he was among Our believing servants. (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (Ⅳ)
- For he was one of our believing Servants. (Ⅵ)
37. 82  
Then We did drown the others.
- Thumma aghraqna alakhareena (Ⅰ)
- Then did We drown the others (Ⅱ)
- Then afterwards We drowned the rest. (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Then the rest we overwhelmed in the Flood. (Ⅵ)
37. 83  
And lo! of his persuasion verily was Abraham
- Wainna min sheeAAatihi laibraheema (Ⅰ)
- And most surely Abraham followed his way. (Ⅱ)
- Of his party was also Abraham; (Ⅲ)
- ۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيمَ (Ⅳ)
- Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham. (Ⅵ)
37. 84  
When he came unto his Lord with a whole heart;
- Ith jaa rabbahu biqalbin saleemin (Ⅰ)
- When he came to his Lord with a whole (sound, pure) heart, (Ⅱ)
- when he came unto his Lord with a pure heart, (Ⅲ)
- إِذْ جَاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart. (Ⅵ)
37. 85  
When he said unto his father and his folk: What is it that ye worship ?
- Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi matha taAAbudoona (Ⅰ)
- When he said to his father and his people, " What is it that you worship?" (Ⅱ)
- when he said to his father and his folk, ´What do you serve? (Ⅲ)
- إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Behold! he said to his father and to his people, "What is that which ye worship? (Ⅵ)
37. 86  
Is it a falsehood - gods beside Allah - that ye desire ?
- Aifkan alihatan doona Allahi tureedoona (Ⅰ)
- "Is it lies - gods besides Allah - that you desire? (Ⅱ)
- Is it a calumny, gods apart from God, that you desire? (Ⅲ)
- أَئِفْكًا آلِهَةً دُونَ اللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "Is it a falsehood- gods other than Allah- that ye desire? (Ⅵ)
37. 87  
What then is your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds ?
- Fama thannukum birabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- "What is then your idea about the Lord of the Worlds?" (Ⅱ)
- What think you then of the Lord of all Being?´ (Ⅲ)
- فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅳ)
- "Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?" (Ⅵ)
37. 88  
And he glanced a glance at the stars
- Fanathara nathratan fee alnnujoomi (Ⅰ)
- Then he looked at the stars, looking up once, (Ⅱ)
- And he cast a glance at the stars, (Ⅲ)
- فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِ (Ⅳ)
- Then did he cast a glance at the Stars. (Ⅵ)
37. 89  
Then said: Lo! I feel sick!
- Faqala innee saqeemun (Ⅰ)
- Then he said, "Verily, I am sick (at heart of your worshipping these)." (Ⅱ)
- and he said, ´Surely I am sick.´ (Ⅲ)
- فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ (Ⅳ)
- And he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)!" (Ⅵ)
37. 90  
And they turned their backs and went away from him.
- Fatawallaw AAanhu mudbireena (Ⅰ)
- So they turned their backs and went away. (Ⅱ)
- But they went away from him, turning their backs. (Ⅲ)
- فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ (Ⅳ)
- So they turned away from him, and departed. (Ⅵ)
37. 91  
Then turned he to their gods and said: Will ye not eat ?
- Faragha ila alihatihim faqala ala takuloona (Ⅰ)
- Then he turned to their gods secretly and said, "What! Do you not eat? (Ⅱ)
- Then he turned to their gods, and said, ´What do you eat? (Ⅲ)
- فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ آلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Then did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings before you)?... (Ⅵ)
37. 92  
What aileth you that ye speak not ?
- Ma lakum la tantiqoona (Ⅰ)
- "What is the matter with you that you do not speak?" (Ⅱ)
- What ails you, that you speak not?´ (Ⅲ)
- مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "What is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)?" (Ⅵ)
37. 93  
Then he attacked them, striking with his right hand.
- Faragha AAalayhim darban bialyameeni (Ⅰ)
- Then he attacked them, smiting them with his right hand. (Ⅱ)
- And he turned upon them smiting them with his right hand. (Ⅲ)
- فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًا بِالْيَمِينِ (Ⅳ)
- Then did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand. (Ⅵ)
37. 94  
And (his people) came toward him, hastening.
- Faaqbaloo ilayhi yaziffoona (Ⅰ)
- So they (people) advanced towards him, hastening. (Ⅱ)
- Then came the others to him hastening. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَقْبَلُوا إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ (Ⅳ)
- Then came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him). (Ⅵ)
37. 95  
He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve
- Qala ataAAbudoona ma tanhitoona (Ⅰ)
- Said he, "Worship you what you yourselves carve out, (Ⅱ)
- He said, ´Do you serve what you hew, (Ⅲ)
- قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ (Ⅳ)
- He said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved? (Ⅵ)
37. 96  
When Allah hath created you and what ye make ?
- WaAllahu khalaqakum wama taAAmaloona (Ⅰ)
- "When Allah has created you and what you make?" (Ⅱ)
- and God created you and what you make?´ (Ⅲ)
- وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- "But Allah has created you and your handwork!" (Ⅵ)
37. 97  
They said: Build for him a building and fling him in the red-hotfire.
- Qaloo ibnoo lahu bunyanan faalqoohu fee aljaheemi (Ⅰ)
- They said, "Build for him a furnace, then cast him into the burning fire." (Ⅱ)
- They said, ´Build him a building, and cast him into the furnace!´ (Ⅲ)
- قَالُوا ابْنُوا لَهُ بُنْيَانًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِي الْجَحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!" (Ⅵ)
37. 98  
And they designed a snare for him, but We made them the undermost.
- Faaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumu alasfaleena (Ⅰ)
- And they designed a plot against him, but We brought them low. (Ⅱ)
- They desired to outwit him; so We made them the lower ones. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ (Ⅳ)
- (This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated! (Ⅵ)
37. 99  
And he said: Lo! I am going unto my Lord Who will guide me.
- Waqala innee thahibun ila rabbee sayahdeeni (Ⅰ)
- And he said, "Surely I flee to my lord; He will guide me. (Ⅱ)
- He said, ´I am going to my Lord; He will guide me. (Ⅲ)
- وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ (Ⅳ)
- He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me! (Ⅵ)
