56. 0  
Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅴ)
56. 1  
When the Event inevitable cometh to pass,
- Itha waqaAAati alwaqiAAatu (Ⅰ)
- When the Inevitable Event comes to pass - (Ⅱ)
- When the event befalleth - (Ⅲ)
- When the Terror descends (Ⅳ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ (Ⅴ)
56. 2  
Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming.
- Laysa liwaqAAatiha kathibatun (Ⅰ)
- There is no denying that it will come - (Ⅱ)
- There is no denying that it will befall - (Ⅲ)
- (and none denies its descending) (Ⅳ)
- لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ (Ⅴ)
56. 3  
(Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt;
- Khafidatun rafiAAatun (Ⅰ)
- Abasing some, exalting others. (Ⅱ)
- Abasing (some), exalting (others); (Ⅲ)
- abasing, exalting, (Ⅳ)
- خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ (Ⅴ)
56. 4  
When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,
- Itha rujjati alardu rajjan (Ⅰ)
- When the earth shall be shaken to its foundations, (Ⅱ)
- When the earth is shaken with a shock (Ⅲ)
- when the earth shall be rocked (Ⅳ)
- إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا (Ⅴ)
56. 5  
And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,
- Wabussati aljibalu bassan (Ⅰ)
- And the mountains shall be crumbled, (Ⅱ)
- And the hills are ground to powder (Ⅲ)
- and the mountains crumbled (Ⅳ)
- وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا (Ⅴ)
56. 6  
Becoming dust scattered abroad,
- Fakanat habaan munbaththan (Ⅰ)
- So that they shall be as scattered dust. (Ⅱ)
- So that they become a scattered dust, (Ⅲ)
- and become a dust, scattered, (Ⅳ)
- فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُّنبَثًّا (Ⅴ)
56. 7  
And ye shall be sorted out into three classes.
- Wakuntum azwajan thalathatan (Ⅰ)
- And you shall be sorted into three classes, (Ⅱ)
- And ye will be three kinds: (Ⅲ)
- and you shall be three bands -- (Ⅳ)
- وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً (Ⅴ)
56. 8  
Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
- Faashabu almaymanati ma ashabu almaymanati (Ⅰ)
- First the companions of the right hand - what will be the companions of the right hand? (Ⅱ)
- (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand ? (Ⅲ)
- Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) (Ⅳ)
- فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ (Ⅴ)
56. 9  
And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
- Waashabu almashamati ma ashabu almashamati (Ⅰ)
- And then the companions of the left hand - what will be the companions of the left hand? (Ⅱ)
- And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand ? (Ⅲ)
- Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) (Ⅳ)
- وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ (Ⅴ)
56. 10  
And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter).
- Waalssabiqoona alssabiqoona (Ⅰ)
- And those foremost (in faith) will be the foremost (in the Hereafter), (Ⅱ)
- And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: (Ⅲ)
- and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers (Ⅳ)
- وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 11  
These will be those Nearest to Allah:
- Olaika almuqarraboona (Ⅰ)
- These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), (Ⅱ)
- Those are they who will be brought nigh (Ⅲ)
- those are they brought nigh the Throne, (Ⅳ)
- أُولَٰئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 12  
In Gardens of Bliss:
- Fee jannati alnnaAAeemi (Ⅰ)
- In the Gardens of Bliss. (Ⅱ)
- In gardens of delight; (Ⅲ)
- in the Gardens of Delight (Ⅳ)
- فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ (Ⅴ)
56. 13  
A number of people from those of old,
- Thullatun mina alawwaleena (Ⅰ)
- A multitude of those of old, (Ⅱ)
- A multitude of those of old (Ⅲ)
- (a throng of the ancients (Ⅳ)
- ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ (Ⅴ)
56. 14  
And a few from those of later times.
- Waqaleelun mina alakhireena (Ⅰ)
- And a few of those of later times. (Ⅱ)
- And a few of those of later time. (Ⅲ)
- and how few of the later folk) (Ⅳ)
- وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ (Ⅴ)
56. 15  
(They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones),
- AAala sururin mawdoonatin (Ⅰ)
- On thrones decorated, (Ⅱ)
- On lined couches, (Ⅲ)
- upon close-wrought couches (Ⅳ)
- عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 16  
Reclining on them, facing each other.
- Muttakieena AAalayha mutaqabileena (Ⅰ)
- Reclining on them, facing one another. (Ⅱ)
- Reclining therein face to face. (Ⅲ)
- reclining upon them, set face to face, (Ⅳ)
- مُّتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ (Ⅴ)
56. 17  
Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness),
- Yatoofu AAalayhim wildanun mukhalladoona (Ⅰ)
- Round about them shall serve youths of permanent freshness (immortal or never altering in age), (Ⅱ)
- There wait on them immortal youths (Ⅲ)
- immortal youths going round about them (Ⅳ)
- يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 18  
With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:
- Biakwabin waabareeqa wakasin min maAAeenin (Ⅰ)
- With goblets and ewers and a cup filled from a pure fountain; (Ⅱ)
- With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring (Ⅲ)
- with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring (Ⅳ)
- بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 19  
No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:
- La yusaddaAAoona AAanha wala yunzifoona (Ⅰ)
- They shall not suffer with headache thereby, nor shall they get intoxicated (or exhausted), (Ⅱ)
- Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, (Ⅲ)
- (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) (Ⅳ)
- لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 20  
And with fruits, any that they may select:
- Wafakihatin mimma yatakhayyaroona (Ⅰ)
- And fruits such as they choose, (Ⅱ)
- And fruit that they prefer (Ⅲ)
- and such fruits as they shall choose, (Ⅳ)
- وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 21  
And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.
- Walahmi tayrin mimma yashtahoona (Ⅰ)
- And the flesh of fowl and any as they desire. (Ⅱ)
- And flesh of fowls that they desire. (Ⅲ)
- and such flesh of fowl as they desire, (Ⅳ)
- وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 22  
And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,-
- Wahoorun AAeenun (Ⅰ)
- And pure, beautiful companions, (Ⅱ)
- And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, (Ⅲ)
- and wide-eyed houris (Ⅳ)
- وَحُورٌ عِينٌ (Ⅴ)
56. 23  
Like unto Pearls well-guarded.
- Kaamthali allului almaknooni (Ⅰ)
- The like of the well-preserved pearls: (Ⅱ)
- Like unto hidden pearls, (Ⅲ)
- as the likeness of hidden pearls, (Ⅳ)
- كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ (Ⅴ)
56. 24  
A Reward for the deeds of their past (life).
- Jazaan bima kanoo yaAAmaloona (Ⅰ)
- A reward for what they used to do. (Ⅱ)
- Reward for what they used to do. (Ⅲ)
- a recompense for that they laboured. (Ⅳ)
- جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 25  
Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,-
- La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwan wala tatheeman (Ⅰ)
- They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, (Ⅱ)
- There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination (Ⅲ)
- Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, (Ⅳ)
- لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا (Ⅴ)
56. 26  
Only the saying, "Peace! Peace".
- Illa qeelan salaman salaman (Ⅰ)
- Except the saying, "Peace! Peace!" (Ⅱ)
- (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. (Ⅲ)
- only the saying ´Peace, Peace!´ (Ⅳ)
- إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا (Ⅴ)
56. 27  
The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
- Waashabu alyameeni ma ashabu alyameeni (Ⅰ)
- And the companions of the right hand; what of the companions of the Right Hand! (Ⅱ)
- And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand ? (Ⅲ)
- The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) (Ⅳ)
- وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ (Ⅴ)
56. 28  
(They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns,
- Fee sidrin makhdoodin (Ⅰ)
- Amid thornless Lote-trees, (Ⅱ)
- Among thornless lote-trees (Ⅲ)
- mid thornless lote-trees (Ⅳ)
- فِي سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 29  
Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,-
- Watalhin mandoodin (Ⅰ)
- And tall trees with clusters of flowers (or fruits) one above another. (Ⅱ)
- And clustered plantains, (Ⅲ)
- and serried acacias, (Ⅳ)
- وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 30  
In shade long-extended,
- Wathillin mamdoodin (Ⅰ)
- And spreading shade, (Ⅱ)
- And spreading shade, (Ⅲ)
- and spreading shade (Ⅳ)
- وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 31  
By water flowing constantly,
- Wamain maskoobin (Ⅰ)
- And water flowing constantly, (Ⅱ)
- And water gushing, (Ⅲ)
- and outpoured waters, (Ⅳ)
- وَمَاءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 32  
And fruit in abundance.
- Wafakihatin katheeratin (Ⅰ)
- And abundant fruit, (Ⅱ)
- And fruit in plenty (Ⅲ)
- and fruits abounding (Ⅳ)
- وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 33  
Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,
- La maqtooAAatin wala mamnooAAatin (Ⅰ)
- Neither intercepted nor forbidden, (Ⅱ)
- Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, (Ⅲ)
- unfailing, unforbidden, (Ⅳ)
- لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 34  
And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high.
- Wafurushin marfooAAatin (Ⅰ)
- And exalted thrones. (Ⅱ)
- And raised couches; (Ⅲ)
- and upraised couches. (Ⅳ)
- وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 35  
We have created (their Companions) of special creation.
- Inna anshanahunna inshaan (Ⅰ)
- Surely We have created them into a new creation, (Ⅱ)
- Lo! We have created them a (new) creation (Ⅲ)
- Perfectly We formed them, perfect, (Ⅳ)
- إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاءً (Ⅴ)
56. 36  
And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -
- FajaAAalnahunna abkaran (Ⅰ)
- And made them virgins pure, (Ⅱ)
- And made them virgins, (Ⅲ)
- and We made them spotless virgins, (Ⅳ)
- فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا (Ⅴ)
56. 37  
Beloved (by nature), equal in age,-
- AAuruban atraban (Ⅰ)
- Loving friends, equals in age, (Ⅱ)
- Lovers, friends, (Ⅲ)
- chastely amorous, (Ⅳ)
- عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا (Ⅴ)
56. 38  
For the Companions of the Right Hand.
- Liashabi alyameeni (Ⅰ)
- For the sake of the companions of the right hand. (Ⅱ)
- For those on the right hand; (Ⅲ)
- like of age for the Companions of the Right. (Ⅳ)
- لِّأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ (Ⅴ)
56. 39  
A (goodly) number from those of old,
- Thullatun mina alawwaleena (Ⅰ)
- A multitude of those of old, (Ⅱ)
- A multitude of those of old (Ⅲ)
- A throng of the ancients (Ⅳ)
- ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ (Ⅴ)
56. 40  
And a (goodly) number from those of later times.
- Wathullatun mina alakhireena (Ⅰ)
- And a multitude of those of later times. (Ⅱ)
- And a multitude of those of later time. (Ⅲ)
- and a throng of the later folk. (Ⅳ)
- وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ (Ⅴ)
56. 41  
The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
- Waashabu alshshimali ma ashabu alshshimali (Ⅰ)
- And those of the left hand; what of those of the Left Hand? (Ⅱ)
- And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand ? (Ⅲ)
- The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) (Ⅳ)
- وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ (Ⅴ)
56. 42  
(They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water,
- Fee samoomin wahameemin (Ⅰ)
- In hot wind and boiling water, (Ⅱ)
- In scorching wind and scalding water (Ⅲ)
- mid burning winds and boiling waters (Ⅳ)
- فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 43  
And in the shades of Black Smoke:
- Wathillin min yahmoomin (Ⅰ)
- And the shade of black smoke, (Ⅱ)
- And shadow of black smoke, (Ⅲ)
- and the shadow of a smoking blaze (Ⅳ)
- وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 44  
Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please:
- La baridin wala kareemin (Ⅰ)
- Neither cool nor honourable. (Ⅱ)
- Neither cool nor refreshing. (Ⅲ)
- neither cool, neither goodly; (Ⅳ)
- لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ (Ⅴ)
56. 45  
For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury),
- Innahum kanoo qabla thalika mutrafeena (Ⅰ)
- Surely they were before this made to live in ease and plenty. (Ⅱ)
- Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury (Ⅲ)
- and before that they lived at ease, (Ⅳ)
- إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ (Ⅴ)
56. 46  
And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme!
- Wakanoo yusirroona AAala alhinthi alAAatheemi (Ⅰ)
- And they persisted in the great violation (or great sin). (Ⅱ)
- And used to persist in the awful sin. (Ⅲ)
- and persisted in the Great Sin, (Ⅳ)
- وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ (Ⅴ)
56. 47  
And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?-
- Wakanoo yaqooloona aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona (Ⅰ)
- And they used to say, "What! When we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? (Ⅱ)
- And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, (Ⅲ)
- ever saying, ´What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? (Ⅳ)
- وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 48  
"(We) and our fathers of old?"
- Awa abaona alawwaloona (Ⅰ)
- "Or our fathers of yore?" (Ⅱ)
- And also our forefathers ? (Ⅲ)
- What, and our fathers, the ancients?´ (Ⅳ)
- أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ (Ⅴ)
56. 49  
Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times,
- Qul inna alawwaleena waalakhireena (Ⅰ)
- Say, "The first and the last, (Ⅱ)
- Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time (Ⅲ)
- Say: ´The ancients, and the later folk (Ⅳ)
- قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ (Ⅴ)
