78. 0  
The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
78. 1  
Of what do they question one another?
- AAamma yatasaaloona (Ⅰ)
- Whereof do they question one another ? (Ⅱ)
- Of what do they question one another? (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Concerning what are they disputing? (Ⅵ)
78. 2  
About the Great News,
- AAani alnnabai alAAatheemi (Ⅰ)
- (It is) of the awful tidings, (Ⅱ)
- Of the mighty tiding (Ⅲ)
- عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Concerning the Great News, (Ⅵ)
78. 3  
About which they are in disagreement?
- Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoona (Ⅰ)
- Concerning which they are in disagreement. (Ⅱ)
- whereon they are at variance. (Ⅲ)
- الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ (Ⅳ)
- About which they cannot agree. (Ⅵ)
78. 4  
Verily, they shall soon come to know
- Kalla sayaAAlamoona (Ⅰ)
- Nay, but they will come to know! (Ⅱ)
- No indeed; they shall soon know! (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! (Ⅵ)
78. 5  
Verily, verily, they shall soon come to know.
- Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoona (Ⅰ)
- Nay, again, but they will come to know! (Ⅱ)
- Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! (Ⅵ)
78. 6  
Have We not made the earth an expanse?
- Alam najAAali alarda mihadan (Ⅰ)
- Have We not made the earth an expanse, (Ⅱ)
- Have We not made the earth as a cradle (Ⅲ)
- أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا (Ⅳ)
- Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, (Ⅵ)
78. 7  
And the mountains as projections (thereon)?
- Waaljibala awtadan (Ⅰ)
- And the high hills bulwarks ? (Ⅱ)
- and the mountains as pegs? (Ⅲ)
- وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا (Ⅳ)
- And the mountains as pegs? (Ⅵ)
78. 8  
And created you in pairs?
- Wakhalaqnakum azwajan (Ⅰ)
- And We have created you in pairs, (Ⅱ)
- And We created you in pairs, (Ⅲ)
- وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا (Ⅳ)
- And (have We not) created you in pairs, (Ⅵ)
78. 9  
And made your sleep for rest?
- WajaAAalna nawmakum subatan (Ⅰ)
- And have appointed your sleep for repose, (Ⅱ)
- and We appointed your sleep for a rest; (Ⅲ)
- وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا (Ⅳ)
- And made your sleep for rest, (Ⅵ)
78. 10  
And made the night to be a covering?
- WajaAAalna allayla libasan (Ⅰ)
- And have appointed the night as a cloak, (Ⅱ)
- and We appointed night for a garment, (Ⅲ)
- وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا (Ⅳ)
- And made the night as a covering, (Ⅵ)
78. 11  
And made the day for livelihood and activity?
- WajaAAalna alnnahara maAAashan (Ⅰ)
- And have appointed the day for livelihood. (Ⅱ)
- and We appointed day for a livelihood. (Ⅲ)
- وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا (Ⅳ)
- And made the day as a means of subsistence? (Ⅵ)
78. 12  
And made above you seven firmaments (heavens)?
- Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidadan (Ⅰ)
- And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), (Ⅱ)
- And We have built above you seven strong ones, (Ⅲ)
- وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا (Ⅳ)
- And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, (Ⅵ)
78. 13  
And placed therein a shining lamp (the Sun)?
- WajaAAalna sirajan wahhajan (Ⅰ)
- And have appointed a dazzling lamp, (Ⅱ)
- and We appointed a blazing lamp (Ⅲ)
- وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا (Ⅳ)
- And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? (Ⅵ)
78. 14  
And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance,
- Waanzalna mina almuAAsirati maan thajjajan (Ⅰ)
- And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, (Ⅱ)
- and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading (Ⅲ)
- وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا (Ⅳ)
- And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, (Ⅵ)
78. 15  
That We may bring forth thereby corn and vegetable,
- Linukhrija bihi habban wanabatan (Ⅰ)
- Thereby to produce grain and plant, (Ⅱ)
- that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, (Ⅲ)
- لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا (Ⅳ)
- That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, (Ⅵ)
78. 16  
And gardens dense and luxuriant?
- Wajannatin alfafan (Ⅰ)
- And gardens of thick foliage. (Ⅱ)
- and gardens luxuriant. (Ⅲ)
- وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا (Ⅳ)
- And gardens of luxurious growth? (Ⅵ)
78. 17  
Surely the Day of Decision (or Sorting ) is a thing appointed:
- Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqatan (Ⅰ)
- Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, (Ⅱ)
- Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا (Ⅳ)
- Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, (Ⅵ)
78. 18  
The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts,
- Yawma yunfakhu fee alssoori fatatoona afwajan (Ⅰ)
- A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, (Ⅱ)
- the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا (Ⅳ)
- The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; (Ⅵ)
78. 19  
And the heaven shall be opened as if it were all doors,
- Wafutihati alssamao fakanat abwaban (Ⅰ)
- And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, (Ⅱ)
- and heaven is opened, and become gates, (Ⅲ)
- وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا (Ⅳ)
- And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, (Ⅵ)
78. 20  
And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance.
- Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanat saraban (Ⅰ)
- And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. (Ⅱ)
- and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. (Ⅲ)
- وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا (Ⅳ)
- And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. (Ⅵ)
78. 21  
Surely hell lies in ambush,
- Inna jahannama kanat mirsadan (Ⅰ)
- Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, (Ⅱ)
- Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا (Ⅳ)
- Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, (Ⅵ)
78. 22  
A destination for those who transgress the bounds,
- Lilttagheena maaban (Ⅰ)
- A home for the rebellious. (Ⅱ)
- for the insolent a resort, (Ⅲ)
- لِّلطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا (Ⅳ)
- For the transgressors a place of destination: (Ⅵ)
78. 23  
Abiding therein for ages.
- Labitheena feeha ahqaban (Ⅰ)
- They will abide therein for ages. (Ⅱ)
- therein to tarry for ages, (Ⅲ)
- لَّابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا (Ⅳ)
- They will dwell therein for ages. (Ⅵ)
78. 24  
They shall not taste therein anything cool nor drink
- La yathooqoona feeha bardan wala sharaban (Ⅰ)
- Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink (Ⅱ)
- tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink (Ⅲ)
- لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا (Ⅳ)
- Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, (Ⅵ)
78. 25  
But boiling and intensely cold water,
- Illa hameeman waghassaqan (Ⅰ)
- Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: (Ⅱ)
- save boiling water and pus (Ⅲ)
- إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا (Ⅳ)
- Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, (Ⅵ)
78. 26  
Requital corresponding (or proportional to their state).
- Jazaan wifaqan (Ⅰ)
- Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). (Ⅱ)
- for a suitable recompense. (Ⅲ)
- جَزَاءً وِفَاقًا (Ⅳ)
- A fitting recompense (for them). (Ⅵ)
78. 27  
Surely they feared not the account,
- Innahum kanoo la yarjoona hisaban (Ⅰ)
- For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; (Ⅱ)
- They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا (Ⅳ)
- For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), (Ⅵ)
78. 28  
And called Our revelations a lie with strong denial.
- Wakaththaboo biayatina kiththaban (Ⅰ)
- They called Our revelations false with strong denial. (Ⅱ)
- and they cried loud lies to Our signs; (Ⅲ)
- وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا (Ⅳ)
- But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. (Ⅵ)
78. 29  
And We have preserved all things in a Record.
- Wakulla shayin ahsaynahu kitaban (Ⅰ)
- Everything have We recorded in a Book. (Ⅱ)
- and everything We have numbered in a Book. (Ⅲ)
- وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَابًا (Ⅳ)
- And all things have We preserved on record. (Ⅵ)
78. 30  
"So taste you (the fruits of your deeds)! For We will not add to you aught but torment.
- Fathooqoo falan nazeedakum illa AAathaban (Ⅰ)
- So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. (Ⅱ)
- ´Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.´ (Ⅲ)
- فَذُوقُوا فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا (Ⅳ)
- "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." (Ⅵ)
78. 31  
Surely for the righteous is achievement (or success, self-fulfilment),
- Inna lilmuttaqeena mafazan (Ⅰ)
- Lo! for the duteous is achievement - (Ⅱ)
- Surely for the godfearing awaits a place of security, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا (Ⅳ)
- Verily for the Righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the heart´s) desires; (Ⅵ)
78. 32  
Gardens and vineyards,
- Hadaiqa waaAAnaban (Ⅰ)
- Gardens enclosed and vineyards, (Ⅱ)
- gardens and vineyards (Ⅲ)
- حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا (Ⅳ)
- Gardens enclosed, and grapevines; (Ⅵ)
78. 33  
And those showing freshness of youth, equals in age,
- WakawaAAiba atraban (Ⅰ)
- And maidens for companions, (Ⅱ)
- and maidens with swelling breasts, like of age, (Ⅲ)
- وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا (Ⅳ)
- And voluptuous women of equal age; (Ⅵ)
78. 34  
And a pure cup.
- Wakasan dihaqan (Ⅰ)
- And a full cup. (Ⅱ)
- and a cup overflowing. (Ⅲ)
- وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا (Ⅳ)
- And a cup full (to the brim). (Ⅵ)
78. 35  
They shall not hear therein any vain words nor lying.
- La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwan wala kiththaban (Ⅰ)
- There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying - (Ⅱ)
- Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cry of lies, (Ⅲ)
- لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّابًا (Ⅳ)
- No vanity shall they hear therein, nor Untruth:- (Ⅵ)
78. 36  
A reward from your Lord, a gift according to reckoning (or sufficient):
- Jazaan min rabbika AAataan hisaban (Ⅰ)
- Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment - (Ⅱ)
- for a recompense from thy Lord, a gift, a reckoning, (Ⅲ)
- جَزَاءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَاءً حِسَابًا (Ⅳ)
- Recompense from thy Lord, a gift, (amply) sufficient, (Ⅵ)
78. 37  
From the Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, the Beneficent Allah, with whom none can argue.
- Rabbi alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma alrrahmani la yamlikoona minhu khitaban (Ⅰ)
- Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse. (Ⅱ)
- Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is, the All-merciful of whom they have no power to speak. (Ⅲ)
- رَّبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا (Ⅳ)
- (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between, (Allah) Most Gracious: None shall have power to argue with Him. (Ⅵ)
78. 38  
The day on which the Spirit and the angels shall stand arrayed; they speak not except him whom the Beneficent permits and who speaks aright.
- Yawma yaqoomu alrroohu waalmalaikatu saffan la yatakallamoona illa man athina lahu alrrahmanu waqala sawaban (Ⅰ)
- On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right. (Ⅱ)
- Upon the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in ranks they shall speak not, save him to whom the All-merciful has given leave, and who speaks aright. (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا (Ⅳ)
- The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand forth in ranks, none shall speak except any who is permitted by (Allah) Most Gracious, and He will say what is right. (Ⅵ)
78. 39  
That is the Day of Certain Reality, so whoever desires may take refuge with his Lord.
- Thalika alyawmu alhaqqu faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi maaban (Ⅰ)
- That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord. (Ⅱ)
- That is the true day; so whosoever wills takes unto his Lord a resort. (Ⅲ)
- ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا (Ⅳ)
- That Day will be the sure Reality: Therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) return to his Lord! (Ⅵ)
78. 40  
Surely We have warned you of a doom near at hand: the day when man shall see that which his two hands have sent before, and the unbeliever shall say, "O! Would that I were dust!"
- Inna antharnakum AAathaban qareeban yawma yanthuru almaro ma qaddamat yadahu wayaqoolu alkafiru ya laytanee kuntu turaban (Ⅰ)
- Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!" (Ⅱ)
- Lo, We have warned you of a nigh chastisement, upon the day when a man shall behold what his hands have forwarded, and the unbeliever shall say, ´O would that I were dust!´ (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّا أَنذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا (Ⅳ)
- Verily, We have warned you of a Penalty near, the Day when man will see (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say, "Woe unto me! Would that I were (metre) dust!" (Ⅵ)
