79. 0  
The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
79. 1  
I swear by (or call to witness) those who tear out to destruction,
- WaalnnaziAAati gharqan (Ⅰ)
- By those who drag forth to destruction, (Ⅱ)
- By those that pluck out vehemently (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا (Ⅳ)
- By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence; (Ⅵ)
79. 2  
And by those rushing.
- Waalnnashitati nashtan (Ⅰ)
- By the meteors rushing, (Ⅱ)
- and those that draw out violently, (Ⅲ)
- وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا (Ⅳ)
- By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); (Ⅵ)
79. 3  
And by those who float,
- Waalssabihati sabhan (Ⅰ)
- By the lone stars floating, (Ⅱ)
- by those that swim serenely (Ⅲ)
- وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا (Ⅳ)
- And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), (Ⅵ)
79. 4  
Then press forward as in a race,
- Faalssabiqati sabqan (Ⅰ)
- By the angels hastening, (Ⅱ)
- and those that outstrip suddenly (Ⅲ)
- فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا (Ⅳ)
- Then press forward as in a race, (Ⅵ)
79. 5  
And those who regulate affairs.
- Faalmudabbirati amran (Ⅰ)
- And those who govern the event, (Ⅱ)
- by those that direct an affair! (Ⅲ)
- فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا (Ⅳ)
- Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), (Ⅵ)
79. 6  
The day on which the first trump resounds (or that which can quake shall quake),
- Yawma tarjufu alrrajifatu (Ⅰ)
- On the day when the first trump resoundeth. (Ⅱ)
- Upon the day when the first blast shivers (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ (Ⅳ)
- One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion, (Ⅵ)
79. 7  
And others follow it.
- TatbaAAuha alrradifatu (Ⅰ)
- And the second followeth it, (Ⅱ)
- and the second blast follows it, (Ⅲ)
- تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ (Ⅳ)
- Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): (Ⅵ)
79. 8  
Hearts on that day shall palpitate,
- Quloobun yawmaithin wajifatun (Ⅰ)
- On that day hearts beat painfully (Ⅱ)
- hearts upon that day shall be athrob (Ⅲ)
- قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Hearts that Day will be in agitation; (Ⅵ)
79. 9  
While eyes are cast down.
- Absaruha khashiAAatun (Ⅰ)
- While eyes are downcast (Ⅱ)
- and their eyes shall be humbled. (Ⅲ)
- أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- Cast down will be (their owners´) eyes. (Ⅵ)
79. 10  
They say, "Shall we indeed be restored to our first state?
- Yaqooloona ainna lamardoodoona fee alhafirati (Ⅰ)
- (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state (Ⅱ)
- They shall say, ´What, are we being restored as we were before? (Ⅲ)
- يَقُولُونَ أَإِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ (Ⅳ)
- They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state? (Ⅵ)
79. 11  
"What! When we are rotten bones?"
- Aitha kunna AAithaman nakhiratan (Ⅰ)
- Even after we are crumbled bones ? (Ⅱ)
- What, when we are bones old and wasted?´ (Ⅲ)
- أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَّخِرَةً (Ⅳ)
- "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" (Ⅵ)
79. 12  
They said, "That then would be a return, causing loss."
- Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasiratun (Ⅰ)
- They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. (Ⅱ)
- They shall say, ´That then were a losing return!´ (Ⅲ)
- قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!" (Ⅵ)
79. 13  
But it shall be only a single cry,
- Fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun (Ⅰ)
- Surely it will need but one shout, (Ⅱ)
- But it shall be only a single scare, (Ⅲ)
- فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ (Ⅳ)
- But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, (Ⅵ)
79. 14  
When lo! They will be fully awake.
- Faitha hum bialssahirati (Ⅰ)
- And lo! they will be awakened. (Ⅱ)
- and behold, they are awakened. (Ⅲ)
- فَإِذَا هُم بِالسَّاهِرَةِ (Ⅳ)
- When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). (Ⅵ)
79. 15  
Has not there come to you the story of Moses?
- Hal ataka hadeethu moosa (Ⅰ)
- Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses ? (Ⅱ)
- Hast thou received the story of Moses? (Ⅲ)
- هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Has the story of Moses reached thee? (Ⅵ)
79. 16  
When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley of Tuwa,
- Ith nadahu rabbuhu bialwadi almuqaddasi tuwan (Ⅰ)
- How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa, (Ⅱ)
- When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: (Ⅲ)
- إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى (Ⅳ)
- Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:- (Ⅵ)
79. 17  
(Saying,) "Go to Pharaoh, surely he has transgressed beyond bounds."
- Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha (Ⅰ)
- (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - (Ⅱ)
- ´Go to Pharaoh; he has waxed insolent. (Ⅲ)
- اذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: (Ⅵ)
79. 18  
Then say, "Have you a desire to purify yourself?
- Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka (Ⅰ)
- And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace) ? (Ⅱ)
- And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; (Ⅲ)
- فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ (Ⅳ)
- "And say to him, ´Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- (Ⅵ)
79. 19  
"And I will guide you to your Lord so that you may fear."
- Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha (Ⅰ)
- Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him). (Ⅱ)
- and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"´ (Ⅲ)
- وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- "´And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?´" (Ⅵ)
79. 20  
So he showed him the Mighty Sign.
- Faarahu alayata alkubra (Ⅰ)
- And he showed him the tremendous token. (Ⅱ)
- So he showed him the great sign, (Ⅲ)
- فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign. (Ⅵ)
79. 21  
But he (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed.
- Fakaththaba waAAasa (Ⅰ)
- But he denied and disobeyed, (Ⅱ)
- but he cried lies, and rebelled, (Ⅲ)
- فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance); (Ⅵ)
79. 22  
Then turned he away (from Allah) in haste.
- Thumma adbara yasAAa (Ⅰ)
- Then turned he away in haste, (Ⅱ)
- then he turned away hastily, (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). (Ⅵ)
79. 23  
Then he gathered (men) and made a proclamation.
- Fahashara fanada (Ⅰ)
- Then gathered he and summoned (Ⅱ)
- then he mustered (Ⅲ)
- فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Then he collected (his men) and made a proclamation, (Ⅵ)
79. 24  
Saying, "I am your Lord, the most high."
- Faqala ana rabbukumu alaAAla (Ⅰ)
- And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest." (Ⅱ)
- and proclaimed, and he said, ´I am your Lord, the Most High!´ (Ⅲ)
- فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". (Ⅵ)
79. 25  
So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Hereafter and the former life.
- Faakhathahu Allahu nakala alakhirati waaloola (Ⅰ)
- So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former. (Ⅱ)
- So God seized him with the chastisement of the Last World and the First. (Ⅲ)
- فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life. (Ⅵ)
79. 26  
Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears.
- Inna fee thalika laAAibratan liman yakhsha (Ⅰ)
- Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth. (Ⅱ)
- Surely in that is a lesson for him who fears! (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). (Ⅵ)
79. 27  
Are you the harder to create or the heaven? He created it.
- Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami alssamao banaha (Ⅰ)
- Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built ? (Ⅱ)
- What, are you stronger in constitution or the heaven He built? (Ⅲ)
- أَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ السَّمَاءُ ۚ بَنَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- What! Are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? (Allah) hath constructed it: (Ⅵ)
79. 28  
He raised high its height, and gave it order and perfection.
- RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha (Ⅰ)
- He raised the height thereof and ordered it; (Ⅱ)
- He lifted up its vault, and levelled it, (Ⅲ)
- رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا (Ⅳ)
- On high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection. (Ⅵ)
79. 29  
And He made dark its night and its splendour does He bring out with light.
- Waaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha (Ⅰ)
- And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof. (Ⅱ)
- and darkened its night, and brought forth its forenoon; (Ⅲ)
- وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- Its night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light). (Ⅵ)
79. 30  
And after that He expanded (spread) the earth.
- Waalarda baAAda thalika dahaha (Ⅰ)
- And after that He spread the earth, (Ⅱ)
- and the earth-after that He spread it out, (Ⅲ)
- وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse); (Ⅵ)
79. 31  
He brought forth from it its water and its pasturage.
- Akhraja minha maaha wamarAAaha (Ⅰ)
- And produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof, (Ⅱ)
- therefrom brought forth its waters and its pastures, (Ⅲ)
- أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- He draweth out therefrom its moisture and its pasture; (Ⅵ)
79. 32  
And the mountains, He made them firm,
- Waaljibala arsaha (Ⅰ)
- And He made fast the hills, (Ⅱ)
- and the mountains He set firm, (Ⅲ)
- وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- And the mountains hath He firmly fixed;- (Ⅵ)
79. 33  
A provision for you and for your cattle.
- MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum (Ⅰ)
- A provision for you and for your cattle. (Ⅱ)
- an enjoyment for you and your flocks. (Ⅲ)
- مَتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ (Ⅳ)
- For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (Ⅵ)
79. 34  
But when the great overwhelming calamity comes;
- Faitha jaati alttammatu alkubra (Ⅰ)
- But when the great disaster cometh, (Ⅱ)
- Then, when the Great Catastrophe comes (Ⅲ)
- فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),- (Ⅵ)
79. 35  
The Day on which man shall recollect all he strove after,
- Yawma yatathakkaru alinsanu ma saAAa (Ⅰ)
- The day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavour, (Ⅱ)
- upon the day when man shall remember what he has striven, (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ مَا سَعَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for, (Ⅵ)
79. 36  
And Hell shall be made manifest to him who sees
- Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara (Ⅰ)
- And hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth, (Ⅱ)
- and Hell is advanced for whoever sees, (Ⅲ)
- وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- And Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see,- (Ⅵ)
79. 37  
Then for him who has transgressed all bounds,
- Faamma man tagha (Ⅰ)
- Then, as for him who rebelled (Ⅱ)
- then as for him who was insolent (Ⅲ)
- فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds, (Ⅵ)
79. 38  
And prefers the life of this world,
- Waathara alhayata alddunya (Ⅰ)
- And chose the life of the world, (Ⅱ)
- and preferred the present life, (Ⅲ)
- وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (Ⅳ)
- And had preferred the life of this world, (Ⅵ)
79. 39  
Surely, Hell will be his abode.
- Fainna aljaheema hiya almawa (Ⅰ)
- Lo! hell will be his home. (Ⅱ)
- surely Hell shall be the refuge. (Ⅲ)
- فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- The Abode will be Hell-Fire; (Ⅵ)
79. 40  
And as for him who had feared standing in the presence of his Lord and restrains his soul from lust (or low desires),
- Waama man khafa maqama rabbihi wanaha alnnafsa AAani alhawa (Ⅰ)
- But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust, (Ⅱ)
- But as for him who feared the Station of his Lord and forbade the soul its caprice, (Ⅲ)
- وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord´s (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires, (Ⅵ)
79. 41  
Then surely the Garden, that is his abode.
- Fainna aljannata hiya almawa (Ⅰ)
- Lo! the Garden will be his home. (Ⅱ)
- surely Paradise shall be the refuge. (Ⅲ)
- فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ (Ⅳ)
- Their abode will be the Garden. (Ⅵ)
79. 42  
They ask you (Muhammad) about the Hour, when it will come.
- Yasaloonaka AAani alssaAAati ayyana mursaha (Ⅰ)
- They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port ? (Ⅱ)
- They will question thee concerning the Hour, when it shall berth. (Ⅲ)
- يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- They ask thee about the Hour,-´When will be its appointed time? (Ⅵ)
79. 43  
"What," ask they, "have you to say about it?"
- Feema anta min thikraha (Ⅰ)
- Why (ask they) ? What hast thou to tell thereof ? (Ⅱ)
- What art thou about, to mention it? (Ⅲ)
- فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof? (Ⅵ)
79. 44  
To your Lord belongs the knowledge of it.
- Ila rabbika muntahaha (Ⅰ)
- Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof. (Ⅱ)
- Unto thy Lord is the final end of it. (Ⅲ)
- إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- With thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor. (Ⅵ)
79. 45  
you are only a Warner to him who would fear it.
- Innama anta munthiru man yakhshaha (Ⅰ)
- Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it. (Ⅱ)
- Thou art only the warner of him who fears it. (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it. (Ⅵ)
79. 46  
On the day that they behold it, it will be as though they had not tarried but an evening or the morning.
- Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lam yalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha (Ⅰ)
- On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof. (Ⅱ)
- It shall be as if; on the day they see it, they have but tarried for an evening, or its forenoon. (Ⅲ)
- كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا (Ⅳ)
- The Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn! (Ⅵ)
