83. 0  
Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
83. 1  
Woe to the stinters who,
- Waylun lilmutaffifeena (Ⅰ)
- Woe to the defrauders, (Ⅱ)
- Woe unto the defrauders: (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Woe to those that deal in fraud,- (Ⅵ)
83. 2  
when they measure against the people, take full measure
- Allatheena itha iktaloo AAala alnnasi yastawfoona (Ⅰ)
- Who, when they take the measure of their dues from men take it fully, (Ⅱ)
- Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, (Ⅲ)
- الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, (Ⅵ)
83. 3  
but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp.
- Waitha kaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroona (Ⅰ)
- But when they give by measure or weight, they are deficient. (Ⅱ)
- But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. (Ⅵ)
83. 4  
Do those not think that they shall be raised up
- Ala yathunnu olaika annahum mabAAoothoona (Ⅰ)
- Do not these think that they shall be raised again to account (Ⅱ)
- Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again (Ⅲ)
- أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Do they not think that they will be called to account?- (Ⅵ)
83. 5  
unto a mighty day
- Liyawmin AAatheemin (Ⅰ)
- On a Mighty Day, (Ⅱ)
- Unto an Awful Day, (Ⅲ)
- لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- On a Mighty Day, (Ⅵ)
83. 6  
a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being?
- Yawma yaqoomu alnnasu lirabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the Worlds? (Ⅱ)
- The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds ? (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅳ)
- A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? (Ⅵ)
83. 7  
No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin;
- Kalla inna kitaba alfujjari lafee sijjeenin (Ⅰ)
- Nay! Most surely the record of the wicked is in Sijjin. (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ (Ⅳ)
- Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. (Ⅵ)
83. 8  
and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin?
- Wama adraka ma sijjeenun (Ⅰ)
- And what will explain to you what Sijjin is? (Ⅱ)
- Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ (Ⅳ)
- And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? (Ⅵ)
83. 9  
A book inscribed.
- Kitabun marqoomun (Ⅰ)
- It is an inscribed Record. (Ⅱ)
- A written record. (Ⅲ)
- كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ (Ⅳ)
- (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. (Ⅵ)
83. 10  
Woe that day unto those who cry it lies,
- Waylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena (Ⅰ)
- Woe on that day to the rejecters, (Ⅱ)
- Woe unto the repudiators on that day! (Ⅲ)
- وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ (Ⅳ)
- Woe, that Day, to those that deny- (Ⅵ)
83. 11  
who cry lies to the Day of Doom;
- Allatheena yukaththiboona biyawmi alddeeni (Ⅰ)
- Who give the lie to the Day of Judgment. (Ⅱ)
- Those who deny the Day of Judgment (Ⅲ)
- الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ (Ⅳ)
- Those that deny the Day of Judgment. (Ⅵ)
83. 12  
and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor.
- Wama yukaththibu bihi illa kullu muAAtadin atheemin (Ⅰ)
- And none deny it but the transgressors beyond bounds, the sinful one (Ⅱ)
- Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! (Ⅵ)
83. 13  
When our signs are recited to him, he says, ´Fairy-tales of the ancients!´
- Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna qala asateeru alawwaleena (Ⅰ)
- When Our revelations are recited to him, he says, "Stories of those of yore." (Ⅱ)
- Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. (Ⅲ)
- إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ (Ⅳ)
- When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" (Ⅵ)
83. 14  
No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts.
- Kalla bal rana AAala quloobihim ma kanoo yaksiboona (Ⅰ)
- Nay! But what they used to do has become like rust upon their heart. (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! (Ⅵ)
83. 15  
No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord,
- Kalla innahum AAan rabbihim yawmaithin lamahjooboona (Ⅰ)
- Nay! Most surely they shall on that day be debarred (or veiled) from their Lord. (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. (Ⅵ)
83. 16  
then they shall roast in Hell.
- Thumma innahum lasaloo aljaheemi (Ⅰ)
- Then most surely they shall enter the burning Fire. (Ⅱ)
- Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. (Ⅵ)
83. 17  
Then it shall be said to them, ´This is that you cried lies to.´
- Thumma yuqalu hatha allathee kuntum bihi tukaththiboona (Ⅰ)
- Then shall it be said, "This is what you gave the lie to." (Ⅱ)
- And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. (Ⅲ)
- ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Further, it will be said to them: "This is the (reality) which ye rejected as false! (Ⅵ)
83. 18  
No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun;
- Kalla inna kitaba alabrari lafee AAilliyyeena (Ⅰ)
- Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in Iliyin. (Ⅱ)
- Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - (Ⅲ)
- كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ (Ⅳ)
- Day, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in ´Illiyin. (Ⅵ)
83. 19  
and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun?
- Wama adraka ma AAilliyyoona (Ⅰ)
- And what will explain to you what Iliyin is? (Ⅱ)
- Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ (Ⅳ)
- And what will explain to thee what ´Illiyun is? (Ⅵ)
83. 20  
A book inscribed,
- Kitabun marqoomun (Ⅰ)
- It is an inscribed Record, (Ⅱ)
- A written record, (Ⅲ)
- كِتَابٌ مَّرْقُومٌ (Ⅳ)
- (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, (Ⅵ)
83. 21  
witnessed by those brought nigh.
- Yashhaduhu almuqarraboona (Ⅰ)
- Those who are drawn near to Allah shall witness it. (Ⅱ)
- Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). (Ⅲ)
- يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). (Ⅵ)
83. 22  
Surely the pious shall be in bliss,
- Inna alabrara lafee naAAeemin (Ⅰ)
- Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, (Ⅱ)
- Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss: (Ⅵ)
83. 23  
upon couches gazing;
- AAala alaraiki yanthuroona (Ⅰ)
- On thrones, they shall gaze; (Ⅱ)
- On couches, gazing, (Ⅲ)
- عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): (Ⅵ)
83. 24  
thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss
- TaAArifu fee wujoohihim nadrata alnnaAAeemi (Ⅰ)
- You will see in their faces the brightness of bliss. (Ⅱ)
- Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. (Ⅲ)
- تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. (Ⅵ)
83. 25  
as they are given to drink of a wine sealed
- Yusqawna min raheeqin makhtoomin (Ⅰ)
- They are given to drink pure wine, sealed. (Ⅱ)
- They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, (Ⅲ)
- يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ (Ⅳ)
- Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: (Ⅵ)
83. 26  
whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive --
- Khitamuhu miskun wafee thalika falyatanafasi almutanafisoona (Ⅰ)
- The sealing of it is with musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire. (Ⅱ)
- Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - (Ⅲ)
- خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ (Ⅳ)
- The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: (Ⅵ)
83. 27  
and whose mixture is Tasnim,
- Wamizajuhu min tasneemin (Ⅰ)
- And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, (Ⅱ)
- And mixed with water of Tasnim, (Ⅲ)
- وَمِزَاجُهُ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ (Ⅳ)
- With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: (Ⅵ)
83. 28  
a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh.
- AAaynan yashrabu biha almuqarraboona (Ⅰ)
- A fountain from which drink they who are nearest to Allah. (Ⅱ)
- A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. (Ⅲ)
- عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (Ⅳ)
- A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. (Ⅵ)
83. 29  
Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers,
- Inna allatheena ajramoo kanoo mina allatheena amanoo yadhakoona (Ⅰ)
- Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. (Ⅱ)
- Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, (Ⅵ)
83. 30  
when them passed them by winking at one another,
- Waitha marroo bihim yataghamazoona (Ⅰ)
- And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. (Ⅱ)
- And wink one to another when they passed them; (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ (Ⅳ)
- And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); (Ⅵ)
83. 31  
and when they returned to their people they returned blithely,
- Waitha inqalaboo ila ahlihimu inqalaboo fakiheena (Ⅰ)
- And when they returned to their own folk they returned exulting. (Ⅱ)
- And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting; (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا انقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ (Ⅳ)
- And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; (Ⅵ)
83. 32  
and when they saw them they said, ´Lo, these men are astray!´
- Waitha raawhum qaloo inna haolai ladalloona (Ⅰ)
- And when they saw them, they said, "Most surely these are truly astray". (Ⅱ)
- And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray. (Ⅲ)
- وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ (Ⅳ)
- And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!" (Ⅵ)
83. 33  
Yet they were not sent as watchers over them.
- Wama orsiloo AAalayhim hafitheena (Ⅰ)
- But they were not sent to be keepers over them. (Ⅱ)
- Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ (Ⅳ)
- But they had not been sent as keepers over them! (Ⅵ)
83. 34  
So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers,
- Faalyawma allatheena amanoo mina alkuffari yadhakoona (Ⅰ)
- This day it is the believers who shall laugh at the unbelievers; (Ⅱ)
- This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, (Ⅲ)
- فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ (Ⅳ)
- But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers: (Ⅵ)
83. 35  
upon couches gazing.
- AAala alaraiki yanthuroona (Ⅰ)
- On thrones (of dignity), they will gaze. (Ⅱ)
- On high couches, gazing. (Ⅲ)
- عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ (Ⅳ)
- On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things). (Ⅵ)
83. 36  
Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing?
- Hal thuwwiba alkuffaru ma kanoo yafAAaloona (Ⅰ)
- Are not the disbelievers rewarded for what they did? (Ⅱ)
- Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do ? (Ⅲ)
- هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ (Ⅳ)
- Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? (Ⅵ)
