In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ) - Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ) - Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)

By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,
- Waalssamai thati alburooji (Ⅰ) - By the heaven with its zodiacal signs! (Ⅱ) - By heaven of the constellations, (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ (Ⅳ) - By the sky, (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs; (Ⅵ)

And by the Promised Day.
- Waalyawmi almawAAoodi (Ⅰ) - And by the Promised Day! (Ⅱ) - by the promised day, (Ⅲ) - وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ (Ⅳ) - By the promised Day (of Judgment); (Ⅵ)

And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,
- Washahidin wamashhoodin (Ⅰ) - And by the witnesses and the witnessed! (Ⅱ) - by the witness and the witnessed, (Ⅲ) - وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ (Ⅳ) - By one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness;- (Ⅵ)

(Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch
- Qutila ashabu alukhdoodi (Ⅰ) - Self-destroyed were the owners of the pit; (Ⅱ) - slain were the Men of the Pit, (Ⅲ) - قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ (Ⅳ) - Woe to the makers of the pit (of fire), (Ⅵ)

Of the fuel-fed fire,
- Alnnari thati alwaqoodi (Ⅰ) - The fire of which was supplied with abundant fuel, (Ⅱ) - the fire abounding in fuel, (Ⅲ) - النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ (Ⅳ) - Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel: (Ⅵ)

When they sat by it,
- Ith hum AAalayha quAAoodun (Ⅰ) - Behold, they sat over it, (Ⅱ) - when they were seated over it (Ⅲ) - إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ (Ⅳ) - Behold! they sat over against the (fire), (Ⅵ)

85.

And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.
- Wahum AAala ma yafAAaloona bialmumineena shuhoodun (Ⅰ) - And they witnessed all they were doing against the believers. (Ⅱ) - and were themselves witnesses of what they did with the believers. (Ⅲ) - وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ (Ⅳ) - And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers. (Ⅵ)

They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,
- Wama naqamoo minhum illa an yuminoo biAllahi alAAazeezi alhameedi (Ⅰ) - And they mistreated them only for their belief in Allah, the Mighty, the Praiseworthy, (Ⅱ) - They took revenge on them only because they believed in the All-mighty, the Al-laudable, (Ⅲ) - وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَن يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ (Ⅳ) - And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!- (Ⅵ)

85.

Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.
- Allathee lahu mulku alssamawati waalardi waAllahu AAala kulli shayin shaheedun (Ⅰ) - Whose are the kingdoms of the heavens and the earth; for Allah is Witness over all! (Ⅱ) - God to whom belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and God is Witness over everything. (Ⅲ) - الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ (Ⅳ) - Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness to all things. (Ⅵ)

85.

Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.
- Inna allatheena fatanoo almumineena waalmuminati thumma lam yatooboo falahum AAathabu jahannama walahum AAathabu alhareeqi (Ⅰ) - Verily, those who persecute (or mislead or tempt) the believers, men and women, and then do not repent, for them is the penalty of Hell: they will have the torment of the burning Fire! (Ⅱ) - Those who persecute the believers, men and women, and then have not repented, there awaits them the chastisement of Gehenna, and there awaits them the chastisement of the burning. (Ⅲ) - إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ (Ⅳ) - Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire. (Ⅵ)

85.

Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.
- Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lahum jannatun tajree min tahtiha alanharu thalika alfawzu alkabeeru (Ⅰ) - Verily, those who believe and do right, for them are Gardens beneath which rivers flow: that is the great bliss! (Ⅱ) - Those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for them await gardens underneath which rivers flow; that is the great triumph. (Ⅲ) - إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ (Ⅳ) - For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires), (Ⅵ)

85.

Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.
- Inna batsha rabbika lashadeedun (Ⅰ) - Verily, strong is the power of your Lord! (Ⅱ) - Surely thy Lord´s assault is terrible. (Ⅲ) - إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ (Ⅳ) - Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord. (Ⅵ)

Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,
- Innahu huwa yubdio wayuAAeedu (Ⅰ) - Verily, it is He who creates and restores, (Ⅱ) - Surely it is He who originates, and brings again, (Ⅲ) - إِنَّهُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ (Ⅳ) - It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life). (Ⅵ)

And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,
- Wahuwa alghafooru alwadoodu (Ⅰ) - And He is the Forgiving, the Loving, (Ⅱ) - and He is the All-forgiving, the All-loving, (Ⅲ) - وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ (Ⅳ) - And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness, (Ⅵ)

Lord of the Throne of Glory,
- Thoo alAAarshi almajeedi (Ⅰ) - The Lord of the Glorious Throne; (Ⅱ) - Lord of the Throne, the All-glorious, (Ⅲ) - ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ (Ⅳ) - Lord of the Throne of Glory, (Ⅵ)

Doer of what He will.
- FaAAAAalun lima yureedu (Ⅰ) - The Doer of what He will! (Ⅱ) - Performer of what He desires. (Ⅲ) - فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ (Ⅳ) - Doer (without let) of all that He intends. (Ⅵ)

Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts
- Hal ataka hadeethu aljunoodi (Ⅰ) - Has there come to you the story of the Hosts (Ⅱ) - Hast thou received the story of the hosts, (Ⅲ) - هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ (Ⅳ) - Has the story reached thee, of the forces- (Ⅵ)

Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud ?
- FirAAawna wathamooda (Ⅰ) - Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? (Ⅱ) - Pharaoh and Thamood? (Ⅲ) - فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ (Ⅳ) - Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? (Ⅵ)

Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial
- Bali allatheena kafaroo fee taktheebin (Ⅰ) - Yet the unbelievers persist in rejecting (the truth); (Ⅱ) - Nay, but the unbelievers still cry lies, (Ⅲ) - بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيبٍ (Ⅳ) - And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)! (Ⅵ)

And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.
- WaAllahu min waraihim muheetun (Ⅰ) - But Allah is behind them - encompassing! (Ⅱ) - and God is behind them, encompassing. (Ⅲ) - وَاللَّهُ مِن وَرَائِهِم مُّحِيطٌ (Ⅳ) - But Allah doth encompass them from behind! (Ⅵ)

Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an.
- Bal huwa quranun majeedun (Ⅰ) - Nay, this is a glorious Quran, (Ⅱ) - Nay, but it is a glorious Koran, (Ⅲ) - بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَّجِيدٌ (Ⅳ) - Day, this is a Glorious Qur´an, (Ⅵ)

On a guarded tablet.
- Fee lawhin mahfoothin (Ⅰ) - (Inscribed) in a Preserved Tablet. (Ⅱ) - in a guarded tablet. (Ⅲ) - فِي لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍ (Ⅳ) - (Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved! (Ⅵ)
