86. 0  
The Beneficent, the Merciful,
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
86. 1  
By the heaven and by the night or (morning) star!
- Waalssamai waalttariqi (Ⅰ)
- By the heaven and the Morning Star (Ⅱ)
- By heaven and the night-star! (Ⅲ)
- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ (Ⅳ)
- By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);- (Ⅵ)
86. 2  
And what shall make you know what the night star is?
- Wama adraka ma alttariqu (Ⅰ)
- - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is! (Ⅱ)
- And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ (Ⅳ)
- And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- (Ⅵ)
86. 3  
The star of piercing brightness.
- Alnnajmu alththaqibu (Ⅰ)
- - The piercing Star! (Ⅱ)
- The piercing star! (Ⅲ)
- النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ (Ⅳ)
- (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;- (Ⅵ)
86. 4  
Verily, every soul has a guardian over it.
- In kullu nafsin lamma AAalayha hafithun (Ⅰ)
- No human soul but hath a guardian over it. (Ⅱ)
- Over every soul there is a watcher. (Ⅲ)
- إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ (Ⅳ)
- There is no soul but has a protector over it. (Ⅵ)
86. 5  
Then let man look from what he is created!
- Falyanthuri alinsanu mimma khuliqa (Ⅰ)
- So let man consider from what he is created. (Ⅱ)
- So let man consider of what he was created; (Ⅲ)
- فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ (Ⅳ)
- Now let man but think from what he is created! (Ⅵ)
86. 6  
He is created from a drop emitted
- Khuliqa min main dafiqin (Ⅰ)
- He is created from a gushing fluid (Ⅱ)
- he was created of gushing water (Ⅲ)
- خُلِقَ مِن مَّاءٍ دَافِقٍ (Ⅳ)
- He is created from a drop emitted- (Ⅵ)
86. 7  
Which comes out from between the loins and the breast bones.
- Yakhruju min bayni alssulbi waalttaraibi (Ⅰ)
- That issued from between the loins and ribs. (Ⅱ)
- issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. (Ⅲ)
- يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ (Ⅳ)
- Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: (Ⅵ)
86. 8  
Surely, He is able to bring back (to life),
- Innahu AAala rajAAihi laqadirun (Ⅰ)
- Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) (Ⅱ)
- Surely He is able to bring him back (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ (Ⅳ)
- Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! (Ⅵ)
86. 9  
On the day when the secrets shall be tried,
- Yawma tubla alssarairu (Ⅰ)
- On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. (Ⅱ)
- upon the day when the secrets are tried, (Ⅲ)
- يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ (Ⅳ)
- The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, (Ⅵ)
86. 10  
And man shall have neither strength nor helper.
- Fama lahu min quwwatin wala nasirin (Ⅰ)
- Then will he have no might nor any helper. (Ⅱ)
- and he shall have no strength, no helper. (Ⅲ)
- فَمَا لَهُ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ (Ⅳ)
- (Man) will have no power, and no helper. (Ⅵ)
86. 11  
By the Firmament which returns in its rounds,
- Waalssamai thati alrrajAAi (Ⅰ)
- By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, (Ⅱ)
- By heaven of the returning rain, (Ⅲ)
- وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ (Ⅳ)
- By the Firmament which returns (in its round), (Ⅵ)
86. 12  
And the earth with its sprouting!
- Waalardi thati alssadAAi (Ⅰ)
- And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) (Ⅱ)
- by earth splitting with verdure, (Ⅲ)
- وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ (Ⅳ)
- And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- (Ⅵ)
86. 13  
Verily, this is indeed a discriminating word,
- Innahu laqawlun faslun (Ⅰ)
- Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, (Ⅱ)
- surely it is a decisive word; (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ (Ⅳ)
- Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): (Ⅵ)
86. 14  
And it is no frivolity!
- Wama huwa bialhazli (Ⅰ)
- It is no pleasantry. (Ⅱ)
- it is no merriment. (Ⅲ)
- وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ (Ⅳ)
- It is not a thing for amusement. (Ⅵ)
86. 15  
As for them, they do plot a scheme!
- Innahum yakeedoona kaydan (Ⅰ)
- Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) (Ⅱ)
- They are devising guile, (Ⅲ)
- إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا (Ⅳ)
- As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, (Ⅵ)
86. 16  
But I plot my scheme too!
- Waakeedu kaydan (Ⅰ)
- And I plot a plot (against them). (Ⅱ)
- and I am devising guile. (Ⅲ)
- وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا (Ⅳ)
- And I am planning a scheme. (Ⅵ)
86. 17  
So give respite to the unbelievers; deal you gently with them for a while.
- Famahhili alkafireena amhilhum ruwaydan (Ⅰ)
- So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. (Ⅱ)
- So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. (Ⅲ)
- فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا (Ⅳ)
- Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). (Ⅵ)
