Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ) - In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ) - Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅴ)

By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);-
- Waalssamai waalttariqi (Ⅰ) - By the heaven and by the night or (morning) star! (Ⅱ) - By the heaven and the Morning Star (Ⅲ) - By heaven and the night-star! (Ⅳ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ (Ⅴ)

And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?-
- Wama adraka ma alttariqu (Ⅰ) - And what shall make you know what the night star is? (Ⅱ) - - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is! (Ⅲ) - And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? (Ⅳ) - وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ (Ⅴ)

(It is) the Star of piercing brightness;-
- Alnnajmu alththaqibu (Ⅰ) - The star of piercing brightness. (Ⅱ) - - The piercing Star! (Ⅲ) - The piercing star! (Ⅳ) - النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ (Ⅴ)

There is no soul but has a protector over it.
- In kullu nafsin lamma AAalayha hafithun (Ⅰ) - Verily, every soul has a guardian over it. (Ⅱ) - No human soul but hath a guardian over it. (Ⅲ) - Over every soul there is a watcher. (Ⅳ) - إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ (Ⅴ)

Now let man but think from what he is created!
- Falyanthuri alinsanu mimma khuliqa (Ⅰ) - Then let man look from what he is created! (Ⅱ) - So let man consider from what he is created. (Ⅲ) - So let man consider of what he was created; (Ⅳ) - فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ (Ⅴ)

He is created from a drop emitted-
- Khuliqa min main dafiqin (Ⅰ) - He is created from a drop emitted (Ⅱ) - He is created from a gushing fluid (Ⅲ) - he was created of gushing water (Ⅳ) - خُلِقَ مِن مَّاءٍ دَافِقٍ (Ⅴ)

Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:
- Yakhruju min bayni alssulbi waalttaraibi (Ⅰ) - Which comes out from between the loins and the breast bones. (Ⅱ) - That issued from between the loins and ribs. (Ⅲ) - issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. (Ⅳ) - يَخْرُجُ مِن بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ (Ⅴ)

Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)!
- Innahu AAala rajAAihi laqadirun (Ⅰ) - Surely, He is able to bring back (to life), (Ⅱ) - Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) (Ⅲ) - Surely He is able to bring him back (Ⅳ) - إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ (Ⅴ)

The Day that (all) things secret will be tested,
- Yawma tubla alssarairu (Ⅰ) - On the day when the secrets shall be tried, (Ⅱ) - On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. (Ⅲ) - upon the day when the secrets are tried, (Ⅳ) - يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ (Ⅴ)

(Man) will have no power, and no helper.
- Fama lahu min quwwatin wala nasirin (Ⅰ) - And man shall have neither strength nor helper. (Ⅱ) - Then will he have no might nor any helper. (Ⅲ) - and he shall have no strength, no helper. (Ⅳ) - فَمَا لَهُ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ (Ⅴ)

By the Firmament which returns (in its round),
- Waalssamai thati alrrajAAi (Ⅰ) - By the Firmament which returns in its rounds, (Ⅱ) - By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, (Ⅲ) - By heaven of the returning rain, (Ⅳ) - وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ (Ⅴ)

And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),-
- Waalardi thati alssadAAi (Ⅰ) - And the earth with its sprouting! (Ⅱ) - And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) (Ⅲ) - by earth splitting with verdure, (Ⅳ) - وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ (Ⅴ)

Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil):
- Innahu laqawlun faslun (Ⅰ) - Verily, this is indeed a discriminating word, (Ⅱ) - Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, (Ⅲ) - surely it is a decisive word; (Ⅳ) - إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ (Ⅴ)

It is not a thing for amusement.
- Wama huwa bialhazli (Ⅰ) - And it is no frivolity! (Ⅱ) - It is no pleasantry. (Ⅲ) - it is no merriment. (Ⅳ) - وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ (Ⅴ)

As for them, they are but plotting a scheme,
- Innahum yakeedoona kaydan (Ⅰ) - As for them, they do plot a scheme! (Ⅱ) - Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) (Ⅲ) - They are devising guile, (Ⅳ) - إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا (Ⅴ)

And I am planning a scheme.
- Waakeedu kaydan (Ⅰ) - But I plot my scheme too! (Ⅱ) - And I plot a plot (against them). (Ⅲ) - and I am devising guile. (Ⅳ) - وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا (Ⅴ)

Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile).
- Famahhili alkafireena amhilhum ruwaydan (Ⅰ) - So give respite to the unbelievers; deal you gently with them for a while. (Ⅱ) - So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. (Ⅲ) - So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. (Ⅳ) - فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا (Ⅴ)
