88. 0  
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ)
- The Beneficent, the Merciful, (Ⅱ)
- In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅲ)
- Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅳ)
- Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)
88. 1  
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ
- Hal ataka hadeethu alghashiyati (Ⅰ)
- Has the story reached you, of the overwhelming? (Ⅱ)
- Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming ? (Ⅲ)
- Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? (Ⅳ)
- Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? (Ⅵ)
88. 2  
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ
- Wujoohun yawmaithin khashiAAatun (Ⅰ)
- Some faces on that day shall be humbled, (Ⅱ)
- On that day (many) faces will be downcast, (Ⅲ)
- Faces on that day humbled, (Ⅳ)
- Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, (Ⅵ)
88. 3  
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
- AAamilatun nasibatun (Ⅰ)
- Toiling, weary, (Ⅱ)
- Toiling, weary, (Ⅲ)
- labouring, toilworn, (Ⅳ)
- Labouring (hard), weary,- (Ⅵ)
88. 4  
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
- Tasla naran hamiyatan (Ⅰ)
- While they broil upon a burning Fire; (Ⅱ)
- Scorched by burning fire, (Ⅲ)
- roasting at a scorching fire, (Ⅳ)
- The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- (Ⅵ)
88. 5  
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ
- Tusqa min AAaynin aniyatin (Ⅰ)
- While they drink from a boiling spring! (Ⅱ)
- Drinking from a boiling spring, (Ⅲ)
- watered at a boiling fountain, (Ⅳ)
- The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, (Ⅵ)
88. 6  
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
- Laysa lahum taAAamun illa min dareeAAin (Ⅰ)
- No food shall they have save from the bitter Dhari, (Ⅱ)
- No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit (Ⅲ)
- no food for them but cactus thorn (Ⅳ)
- No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari´ (Ⅵ)
88. 7  
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ
- La yusminu wala yughnee min jooAAin (Ⅰ)
- Which shall not nourish nor avail against hunger! (Ⅱ)
- Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. (Ⅲ)
- unfattening, unappeasing hunger. (Ⅳ)
- Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. (Ⅵ)
88. 8  
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
- Wujoohun yawmaithin naAAimatun (Ⅰ)
- Other faces on that day shall be joyful, (Ⅱ)
- In that day other faces will be calm, (Ⅲ)
- Faces on that day jocund, (Ⅳ)
- (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, (Ⅵ)
88. 9  
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
- LisaAAyiha radiyatun (Ⅰ)
- Content with their past endeavours, (Ⅱ)
- Glad for their effort past, (Ⅲ)
- with their striving well-pleased, (Ⅳ)
- Pleased with their striving,- (Ⅵ)
88. 10  
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
- Fee jannatin AAaliyatin (Ⅰ)
- In a lofty (sublime) Garden (Ⅱ)
- In a high Garden (Ⅲ)
- in a sublime Garden, (Ⅳ)
- In a Garden on high, (Ⅵ)
88. 11  
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً
- La tasmaAAu feeha laghiyatan (Ⅰ)
- Wherein they shall hear no foolish word; (Ⅱ)
- Where they hear no idle speech, (Ⅲ)
- hearing there no babble; (Ⅳ)
- Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: (Ⅵ)
88. 12  
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
- Feeha AAaynun jariyatun (Ⅰ)
- Wherein is a flowing fountain; (Ⅱ)
- Wherein is a gushing spring, (Ⅲ)
- therein a running fountain, (Ⅳ)
- Therein will be a bubbling spring: (Ⅵ)
88. 13  
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
- Feeha sururun marfooAAatun (Ⅰ)
- Wherein are Thrones (of dignity) raised on high, (Ⅱ)
- Wherein are couches raised (Ⅲ)
- therein uplifted couches (Ⅳ)
- Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, (Ⅵ)
88. 14  
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
- Waakwabun mawdooAAatun (Ⅰ)
- And goblets set down ready, (Ⅱ)
- And goblets set at hand (Ⅲ)
- and goblets set forth (Ⅳ)
- Goblets placed (ready), (Ⅵ)
88. 15  
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
- Wanamariqu masfoofatun (Ⅰ)
- And cushions arranged, (Ⅱ)
- And cushions ranged (Ⅲ)
- and cushions arrayed (Ⅳ)
- And cushions set in rows, (Ⅵ)
88. 16  
وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
- Wazarabiyyu mabthoothatun (Ⅰ)
- And carpets spread! (Ⅱ)
- And silken carpets spread. (Ⅲ)
- and carpets outspread. (Ⅳ)
- And rich carpets (all) spread out. (Ⅵ)
88. 17  
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
- Afala yanthuroona ila alibili kayfa khuliqat (Ⅰ)
- Do they not look then at the camel, how she is created? (Ⅱ)
- Will they not regard the camels, how they are created ? (Ⅲ)
- What, do they not consider how the camel was created, (Ⅳ)
- Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- (Ⅵ)
88. 18  
وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
- Waila alssamai kayfa rufiAAat (Ⅰ)
- And at the heaven how it is raised high? (Ⅱ)
- And the heaven, how it is raised ? (Ⅲ)
- how heaven was lifted up, (Ⅳ)
- And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- (Ⅵ)
88. 19  
وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
- Waila aljibali kayfa nusibat (Ⅰ)
- And at the mountains how they are set firm? (Ⅱ)
- And the hills, how they are set up ? (Ⅲ)
- how the mountains were hoisted, (Ⅳ)
- And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- (Ⅵ)
88. 20  
وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
- Waila alardi kayfa sutihat (Ⅰ)
- And at the earth how it is spread out? (Ⅱ)
- And the earth, how it is spread ? (Ⅲ)
- how the earth was outstretched? (Ⅳ)
- And at the Earth, how it is spread out? (Ⅵ)
88. 21  
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
- Fathakkir innama anta muthakkirun (Ⅰ)
- Therefore, remind them: for you are only one to remind; (Ⅱ)
- Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, (Ⅲ)
- Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; (Ⅳ)
- Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. (Ⅵ)
88. 22  
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
- Lasta AAalayhim bimusaytirin (Ⅰ)
- you are not in authority over them; (Ⅱ)
- Thou art not at all a warder over them. (Ⅲ)
- thou art not charged to oversee them. (Ⅳ)
- Thou art not one to manage (men´s) affairs. (Ⅵ)
88. 23  
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
- Illa man tawalla wakafara (Ⅰ)
- But such as turns his back and disbelieves, (Ⅱ)
- But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, (Ⅲ)
- But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, (Ⅳ)
- But if any turn away and reject Allah,- (Ⅵ)
88. 24  
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ
- FayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathaba alakbara (Ⅰ)
- Him will Allah punish with the greatest torment. (Ⅱ)
- Allah will punish him with direst punishment. (Ⅲ)
- God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. (Ⅳ)
- Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, (Ⅵ)
88. 25  
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ
- Inna ilayna iyabahum (Ⅰ)
- Verily, unto us is their return, (Ⅱ)
- Lo! unto Us is their return (Ⅲ)
- Truly, to Us is their return; (Ⅳ)
- For to Us will be their return; (Ⅵ)
88. 26  
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
- Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum (Ⅰ)
- And, verily, for Us is their accounting! (Ⅱ)
- And Ours their reckoning. (Ⅲ)
- then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. (Ⅳ)
- Then it will be for Us to call them to account. (Ⅵ)
